Challenge Yourself WOMEN IN TURF LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES Words By Jenny Zadro, Market Development Manager, Turf Australia The topic of leadership can conjure up some very different views for people and there certainly are many different aspects to leadership. So, what opportunities are there for women working in the turf industry to enhance their skills and opportunities to have an influence in their workplace and the industry? There are a few different options currently available to the women working in turf and I believe that with the right opportunities offered, the industry will see the benefits of many years to come.

In 2019 Turf Australia launched the inaugural Women in Turf Conference in Sydney. Initially, this concept was met with mixed views and uncertainty as to whether it would be seen as appropriate to have a woman only event. Traditionally most conferences focus on the needs of the men in the industry, including presentations and field days, but there was a missed opportunity here. As a very family focused industry, wives, mothers, and daughters play a significant role in keeping turf businesses operational. Women in Turf was an opportunity to bring the ladies together to share their stories and ideas and to learn about the issues that they deal
