Performance Analysis of Pioneer Apparels

Acknowledgement Garments industry is the most competitive and fast growing industry in Bangladesh. As a developing country Bangladesh earns 75% of its foreign currency from this sector. For this reason study of garments technology does deserve a good practical knowledge and practice. So my university provides 8 weeks industrial training. As a final year student of the department of textile technology, textile education cannot be completed without industrial training. Because this training minimize the gap between theoretical and practical knowledge and makes one familiar with industrial environment. For this reason I got an opportunity to complete 8 weeks long industrial training in Performance Analysis of Pioneer Apparels, which is a 100% export oriented home textile industry. Finally I would like give thanks to Md. Mahedi Hassan, Lecturer of my department for his overall support in this training program.

Executive Summary If globalization provides the backdrop for drama, then the achievements of the garment industry in Bangladesh are indeed dramatic. In the short space of 15 years, Bangladesh emerged as the eighth largest garment exporter to the United States by 2004. Approximately 100 different types of garment are now exported to 40 countries around the global. Large-scale production of readymade garments (RMG) in organized factories is a relatively new phenomenon in Bangladesh. Within a short period, Bangladeshi entrepreneurs got familiar with the world apparel markets and marketing. They acquired the expertise of mobilizing resources to export-oriented RMG industries. Foreign buyers found Bangladesh in increasingly attractive sourcing place. To take advantage of this cheap source foreign buyers extended in many cases, suppliers credit under special arrangements. In some case, local banks provided part of the equity capital. The problem of working capital was greatly solved with the introduction of back-to-back letter of credit, which also facilitated import of quality fabric, the basic raw material of the industry. The government assigned high priority to the development of RMG industry. There are several weaknesses of the RMG industry of Bangladesh. Labor productivity in the RMG sector of Bangladesh is higher than many of its competitors . Bangladeshi workers are as efficient as those of Hong Kong, South Korea, and some other countries.
