HL7 courses: Suggested curriculum HCit Consultant proposes the following HL7 training course for the latest HL7 V2.x version V2.7. The course include appropriately placed session(s) on HL7 V3 RIM, CDA and CCD. Further Training can be customised as per client requirements. This curriculum is designed for a audience such as interface analysts, programmers and dedicated HL7 implementation staff who have no training on HL7 and wish to come up to speed, quickly. It provides a deep understanding of HL7 and discusses organizational tools for reading, analysis, testing, problem tracking, and practical issues encountered in a project requiring HL7 interfaces. This is a three-day intense workshop with coursework, discussions and hands-on training.

Mode of Delivery The training courses are designed for delivery through a number of facilitated, interactive tutorials, hands-on and discussion sessions. Course Aims This course is for HL7 programmers, interface developers and dedicated Implementers and is designed to provide the skills for the analysis testing, problem tracking and activation of phases of an HL7 project. Session 9– Hands-On Objective By this point of time, the resources will be well acquainted and confident with the theoretical aspects of HL7 V2.7. Session 9 and 10 will now focus completely on hands on. Each resource will be trained to dissect each message and understand each field with nothing more than their knowledge and notepad.exe. They would then be provided a real life scenario and trained to construct an HL7 message with notepad.exe. Following this they will be trained to receive and send these messages using freeware tools, to get an understanding of real world requirements. Next, they will be trained in the use of different freeware applications that would allow them to quickly accept, read, analyse and modify/correct HL7 V2.7 messages. They would also learn to use these tools to quickly construct messages. Finally, the resources will learn how to create a conformance profile, using a popular open-source tool.

Session 10 – Cracking the Exams Objective In this session, the resources will be taught the details of appearing for the Official HL7 V2.7 International examination. This session will provide all details of how to take the exams the format, marks and all other details required to study and succeed in the afore said exam.

Dr Lavanian has trained under the stalwarts in HL7 and DICOM, Mike Henderson and Herman Oosterwijk, internationally renowned trainers. Mike Henderson has twenty years' experience in the healthcare, educational, and financial areas of the IT industry. He has worked with the HL7 standard since 1992 in organizations including the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Antrim Corporation (now Sunquest Commercial Systems), and Kaiser Permanente.
