Fall Fairy Garden Container Ideas

Containers, depending upon the size, shape, texture, and color, can be valuable focal points in miniature gardens. In fact, when considering design, containers are as important as the fairy houses, furniture, signs, or other fairy accessories placed in the pot. While selecting a container I consider which fairies or gnomes I am going to use, as well as the theme of the miniature garden. I know that during the fall season, there are certain holiday themes I prefer such as Halloween or Thanksgiving. When I start to think about the theme I am leaning towards, I tend to make sure I select a container that represents the ideas or visions of the season. My favorite thing about fall is the colors – I love the reds, yellows, oranges, and browns. I usually stick to this color palette when I am designing my fairy gardens for fall. I fill the containers with miniature plants that have leaves displaying those rich beautiful colors and then I enhance the plants with miniature accessories, which complement the autumn tones.

While planning color schemes, I find it never gets old to refer back to the basics - the color wheel. I tend to choose complementary color themes. First, I select a color on the wheel. Next, I find the color on the exact opposite side of the wheel and use this complementary color in small amounts to contrast and enhance the main color. For example, if I already have purple-violet tones in my fairy garden, I would select another item or plant that has a yellow green hue. It is a trick we all learned in elementary school and will never stop applying to real life. When you love crafting and digging into your garden, design tips stay in your memory and they are always relevant.

How do I use color when I begin my project? Here are the steps I take. First, I select a theme. For example, if I wanted to design a miniature garden based on a fall coffee-party theme, I would start by figuring out which fall fairies I would select along with a bistro set to place on some moss and couple cups of coffee to rest on the table. I would then reflect about the ideas that come to mind when I think about sipping a cup of coffee. I have memories of my grandfather, who liked to keep all of his nails, screws, and nuts-and-bolts organized in old, metal, coffee cans. One of his coffee tins would be the perfect container to enhance my fall coffee-party theme fairy garden. Not only is using this sentimental container a cool way show my love of coffee, but it is a small enough miniature fairy garden where I could use it as an indoor fall decoration and show off my love of coffee – while remembering my grandfather. If you are considering an autumn fairy garden container, think about what defines fall to you and play up these ideas with your thoughtful container decorated with miniature accessories that fit your theme.
