Artist statement - Laura Lucia Mihalca

“Since the Antiquity, people began to search the beau ty in every trace of their life, and perhaps that’s the major role of an art work: to express the beauty, to create a better world, to change mentalities. Through my works, I want to present the happiness of life and the beauty of nature, as seen in regard to my understanding of our society. I intend to draw attention to the ephemeral world that we live in. My works become abstract personal images that depict dreams, feelings or facts. They are specific moments in our life that can create a powerful impression or even change us completely. Something can be to our dislike or dismay, something we can enjoy: a taste, a perfume, a landscape, a day or a night, a person. Above all, what we are left from every day’s alert rhythm are the memories. What do we remember? It’s fair to say that only the things that created a strong impression will remain with you. We close our eyes and we recall fragments of daily life. We remember the sunsets and the sun downs on the beach, the fog that covers the high peaks of mountain, the coffee you drink with a lover in an autumn’s morning, the abstract dream, the city buildings that become simple geometries. All of these compound feelings that define us, maybe even beyond the outline of the pre-established aspects of the quotidian. After all, these are the parts that influence me and my works and that set my art apart from other. ”

“The history of art it’s not only a passion for me, but also an area for

research and continuous study. Since I had discovered the fabulous work of Impressionists, I started to develop a keen interest in the effects and the power that color and light can play on every composition. The Expressionists, the Neo-Impressionists and the Fovists imposed the supremacy of colour. Modern times came with a new approach in art, based on new concepts and on the key role played by the hazard while developing the composition. Claude Monet, Van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, Wassily Kandinsky, Henry Matisse, Jackson Pollock – all remain great sources of influence for my paintings. I enjoy experimenting new techniques and mediums, because each of them provide me new ways of express myself. Over time, I activated in many fields, such as: ceramics, graphic arts, drawing and photography. I worked with ink, oil pastel, watercolors, acrylic and tempera, but since I have started to paint with oils on canvas, I couldn’t stop using this technique. I have a varied palette of subjects, from still life to genre scene, floral compositions, landscape and abstract composition. Yet, I prefer expanding horizons and to create abstract landscapes, using my filters of interpretation for nature. My works of art compose a personal universe revealed sincerely to the public, with the declared intention to offer visual moments of joy and a way to communicate through depicted memories or abstract lyrical poems. The unique and creative way of seeing and presenting life aspects relates to the art of the great masters and brings a modern vision. The recurrence of introspection, the quality of the colored volumes and the sensitive ways of expressing myself are the most important features of my artworks. That is what can really distinguish me from the whole landscape of contemporary artists. ”
