"Save our Hall" say villagers before Annual Parish Meeting
Thursday 18 April saw the Annual Parish Meeting held in the Parish Hall from 7:30pm. Just before the meeting a group gathered outside to support the Parish Hall Improvement Project now being led by the Parish Council as the lease was signed earlier in the year.
“Why improve the Hall?”, people ask. There are many reasons: some are
The structure is sound
It needs little major work
It needs updating for energy use
It needs proper insulation
The roof needs fixing
The kitchen needs updating
It feels and looks very tired
It has a suspended sprung wooden floor, beloved by ballet and dancers
It is heavily used by groups from the village and beyond
It offers a smaller space (maximum 100 people) than the LSSC Hall
It is central for the village
Both halls in the village are heavily booked - we need both of them
And, importantly, the ground landlord will not allow demolition and a rebuild.
The Parish Council has a 35 year lease on the Hall and will now manage the project to bring the Hall up to modern standards, making sure that the space remains available for the Launton community for years to come.
