"Save our Hall" say villagers before Annual Parish Meeting

Thursday 18 April saw the Annual Parish Meeting held in the Parish Hall from 7:30pm. Just before the meeting a group gathered outside to support the Parish Hall Improvement Project now being led by the Parish Council as the lease was signed earlier in the year.

“Why improve the Hall?”, people ask. There are many reasons: some are

  • The structure is sound

  • It needs little major work

  • It needs updating for energy use

  • It needs proper insulation

  • The roof needs fixing

  • The kitchen needs updating

  • It feels and looks very tired

  • It has a suspended sprung wooden floor, beloved by ballet and dancers

  • It is heavily used by groups from the village and beyond

  • It offers a smaller space (maximum 100 people) than the LSSC Hall

  • It is central for the village

  • Both halls in the village are heavily booked - we need both of them

  • And, importantly, the ground landlord will not allow demolition and a rebuild.

The Parish Council has a 35 year lease on the Hall and will now manage the project to bring the Hall up to modern standards, making sure that the space remains available for the Launton community for years to come.
