School Report: Books and finger puppets for World Book Day

School Report: World Book Day 2023

This was a very exciting day for all of us at Launton School. We were asked to choose a favourite book to bring to school. Some of us brought more than one. We talked about our chosen book to the others in our class and explained why we had chosen it.

We think that the most popular writer is David Walliams as there were many of his books brought into school. Here are the names of some of the books we chose with the names of the authors as well.

Dragon Rising by Katie and Kevin Tsang

The B F G by Roald Dahl

Bunny Monkey by Jamie Smart

The Demon Dentist by David Walliams

Our teacher then asked us to make a finger puppet of a character from our chosen book and we all enjoyed that task. One of us spent too long on creating the background in a box and then they did not have enough time to finish their puppet.

Our books and puppets were displayed in the hall for everyone in the school to see. Some are on page 21 (below).

In the afternoon we went into Forest Groups with children from different classes from all over the school. We read in small groups which was fun. It is called shared reading. Working with older and younger children is different to being with the children in your own class.

We enjoyed the day because we love reading books. We will have to wait for one day less than a year for the next World Book Day and we are already looking forward to it.
