Every effort has been made to produce this magazine without error. Should any occur, we reserve the right to correct.
Our focus this issue is on giving back and philanthropy. The previous issue of IS Luxury magazine introduced a dialogue about how our community can make a meaningful impact on the lives of others. The overwhelmingly positive response has inspired us to continue this important conversation in the current issue.
In addition to this philanthropic focus, we are excited to introduce a new feature with IS Luxury , highlighting individuals who have played pivotal roles in the growth of our city, while actively giving back to the community. It is with great pride that we inaugurate this initiative with Larry and Camille Ruvo, the visionary founders of the Keep Memory Alive foundation and The Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health. Their remarkable journey exemplifi es the transformative power of generosity, and we are honored
to shine a spotlight on their inspiring work. As we embark on this journey together, we invite you to join us in celebrating the remarkable individuals and

Forté Specialty Contractors CEO Scott Acton has built a business that’s a category of one, informed by his hospitality heritage.
BY ANDREA BENNETTCatching a glimpse of Fort 137 for the first time, you’d be forgiven for believing you’d stumbled across an ancient settlement. After all, the open structure that radiates from a conical rotunda toward the rugged desert terrain was designed to invoke its early Vegas predecessors. The custom home in The Summit Club was designed by architect Daniel Joseph Chenin and built by Forté Specialty Contractors on a rock outcropping near protected land that abuts the Red Rock Conservation Area and has won dozens of design awards since it was completed in 2022.
“It’s a stately and timeless style,” says Forté founder and CEO Scott Acton. Using strategies like passive cooling, daylighting, photovoltaic panels and radiant heating, it is a structure that takes on a life of its own. Its wood paneling, rubbed bronze accents and travertine flooring will develop a patina over time.
The ingenuity to attain this finesse level is in Acton’s DNA. His grandfather worked for Walt Disney, building the Matterhorn and Pirates of the Caribbean attractions in Disneyland. His father, who created the original Jaws attraction at Universal, among others, lured his son from California when he won the contract to build Treasure Island’s pirate ships. Acton’s one-o job developed into requests for everything from specialty elements for Siegfried and Roy to the dragons and parasols in Wynn Las Vegas, to dozens more innovations in amusement parks and resorts.
Acton starts luxury residential projects like he would any commercial project, informed by his decades in hospitality. Forté uses its 3D printer, one of the largest in the country, to create single part molds, themed elements and in-house tooling. In fact, his residential business has taken o in part due to the speed at which the company can work, since it handles everything from framing and drywall to architectural metals, stone and tile. “Not only are they very capable general contractors, but they skillfully self-perform a number of the specialty trades required for our projects,” Chenin says.
Acton describes working with the “powerful road map” Chenin provides, as he works closely with clients to evaluate the feeling they want to evoke in their home. “Everything is about the experience. It’s about the acoustics, the lighting, the finishes, the detailing. You can walk into a space and know if it’s right just by the way it makes you feel,” he says.
The company’s first residential clients had been Acton’s most demanding
commercial clients, who knew his specialized capabilities. The 13,500-squarefoot “Cascade,” another award-winning Summit Club home named for the way it cascades modularly over the landscape, was built for former Wynn Resorts COO Marc Schorr, who passed up residential contractors in favor of Forté. “He told me, ‘You’re building my house,’ and there was no choice given,” Acton says, laughing. “So we jumped in and built that thing just like we would a hotel, in 13 months.”
This new level of luxury is unprecedented in Las Vegas, Acton says, and will have a lasting impact on the region’s economy as business innovators and entrepreneurs gravitate to it. “Look at the impact it’s had already, with a resident bringing the movie business here,” he says. And, he says, the homes are moving the needle permanently for Las Vegas as a community. “These homes, especially in The Summit, are built as legacies. Many will never trade hands. These are homes that will stay there forever.”

Keep Memory Alive’s annual Power of Love gala raises funds as it thanks its supporters.
BY ANDREA BENNETTLas Vegans know Power of Love as the city’s most glamorous annual gala, thrown by Keep Memory Alive, the philanthropic organization that supports the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health. Perennially star-studded, featuring a famous honoree, a clutch of celebrity chefs and surprise guests, the party is so popular, people arrange their schedules around it months in advance and travel from all over to attend. In fact, plenty of its attendees buy tickets each year for the very reason that it’s a great party. And that is fine with Camille Ruvo, co-founder and vice chairwoman of Keep Memory Alive, who leads the efforts of development, event planning and fundraising for the charity she co-founded with her husband, Larry Ruvo, its chair. “The most important thing in Larry’s and my world is that if you’re willing to spend time and make this kind of investment in our charity, we want to throw a party for you,” she says. “And even though it’s all for the good cause of
Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and Multiple Sclerosis research and treatment, it’s really our way of saying thank you for believing in us.”
Las Vegas is purpose-built for this kind of spectacular. This year’s Power of Love gala, returning to MGM Grand Garden Arena, honors country music sensation Blake Shelton. Wolfgang Puck and Evan Funke, whose Mother Wolf recently opened in Fontainebleau, will take diners on a culinary journey, with each course paired with wines chosen by master sommeliers from Southern Glazer’s Wine, Spirits & Beer of Nevada.
Puck has been devoted to the cause since the Ruvos held a dinner nearly 30 years ago at the original Spago location in The Forum Shops to celebrate Larry’s father, whom they had lost to Alzheimer’s disease. Like many great ideas, raising money for cognitive disease research was
born at that first dinner. “Who doesn’t get together at a dinner table and collaborate with stories and ideas?” Ruvo says. Their longtime friend, John Paul DuJoria, stepped forward with the first pledge for the nascent charity. As Ruvo recalls, “Then in year two, Wolfgang Puck said, ‘If you think the food was good last year, you’ll have to trust me on this, because I’m bringing a new, up-and-coming
“This community comes together and makes an investment in a charity that we get behind because we believe in what the Cleveland Clinic has the greater ability to do, not only for neurology but hopefully in the future, other areas of healthcare.”
–Camille Ruvo
From top: Camille and Larry Ruvo; Dr. Tom Mihaljevic, CEO of the Cleveland Clinic, at the Power of Love gala; supporters Sammy Hagar and Alice Cooper at last year’s party.
chef this year.’” That chef was a young upstart Nobu Matsuhisa. From then on, Puck has been joined in the kitchen by such names as Paul Bocuse, Thomas Keller, Emeril Lagasse and José Andrés, just to name a few. Early supporters like Robin Leach and Angie Dickinson drew even more celebrities. Over the years, the night has morphed into the evening of spectacular entertainment it is today.
The message Power of Love delivers each year, beyond the fun and camaraderie of a big party, is the idea that everyone in every community is touched in some way by the diseases the Lou Ruvo Center seeks to treat, prevent and cure. “This high-quality event is a bridge to high-quality healthcare,” Ruvo says. “There are no waiting rooms, and we spend time with patients. These diseases require a doctor to spend anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour to diagnose.” Any regular neurologist would see you for 10 minutes, she notes, because that’s all most insurance plans will allow. Fundamental to the Lou Ruvo Center is freeing patients from the constraints of their insurance provider so they can focus on their health. In fact, the time their doctors have spent with patients has led to their catching misdiagnoses. “Imagine you’re told
you have Alzheimer’s by a doctor who spent all of eight minutes with you,” she says. “And in reality, it was that your medications were interacting with each other and causing this memory loss.”
The Lou Ruvo Center puts an equal weight on caring for caregivers too.
“Because when there’s one diagnosis, there are two.” The caregiver puts their life on hold, and the Lou Ruvo Center’s programs teach them how to continue
to care for themselves as they care for their affected partner.
The center welcomes volunteers; in fact, over 100 people volunteer there. And there are myriad other ways to participate: charity rodeos, family fun events, poker tournaments, contributions. And if you’re attending the party for the party itself, that’s wonderful too. “If you don’t relate to the charitable component, there’s the food, or the incredible wines, or the social aspect,” she says. The important thing is that you’re here. “Our message is one of gratitude,” she says. “This community comes together and makes an investment in a charity that we get behind because we believe in what the Cleveland Clinic has the greater ability to do, not only for neurology but hopefully in the future, other areas of healthcare.”

Maison Francis Kurkdjian levels up your laundry game with the debut of its expansion of the beloved Aqua Universalis Laundry Care line.
By Phebe Wahl“Simply fresh and ethereal, Aqua Universalis is a universal fragrance for everyone and everything,” says Francis Kurkdjian. As the master behind Maison Francis Kurkdjian (franciskurkdjian.com), the celebrated perfumer recently unveiled an expansion of the collection to include an ultraluxe linen mist. The mist perfectly complements the Aqua Universalis scented detergent and fabric softener. As the newest step in Kurkdjian’s fabric care ritual, the Aqua Universalis linen mist offers the maison’s signature blend of bergamot from Calabria, citron from Sicily, and lily of the valley and mock orange leaves. Delicate and sublimely subtle, it will surely breathe fresh air into laundry day.
Along Mexico’s Pacific Coast, Susurros del Corazón (aubergeresorts.com/ susurros)—which means “whispers of the heart” in Spanish— beckons with its breathtaking views of the Bahía de Banderas in Punta de Mita, a 45-minute drive from Puerto Vallarta International Airport. The Auberge Resorts Collection property opened in November 2022 with truly heartwarming touches (see: an activity that involves releasing baby sea turtles into the ocean at sunset so they can have a chance of survival)
and abundant personalized details (a jug of co ee just how you like it delivered to your room every morning at a time of your choosing).
My journey begins with a private ride from the airport, and I’m pleasantly surprised by how well the property is tucked away, hidden within lush, junglelike grounds. Another nice surprise is the genuine smile and chilled cocktail awaiting me at the entrance, which swaps the traditional reception check-in area for a laid-back, open-air welcome.
Situated between jungle and sea, Susurros del Corazón is a luxury resort that speaks to the heart.
BY ANNA DUNN Stunning water features and lush foliage enhance Susurros del Corazón’s junglemeets-sea vibe.A quick golf cart ride ushers me to my Garden Casita, which is spacious and stunning, filled with natural light and accented with furnishings, textiles and amenities by local artisans and purveyors (body scrub in the bathroom, refreshments in the minibar, eyecatching artwork throughout). My expansive terrace is the perfect perch to peer over the resort and the sparkling sea beyond. In total, the property o ers 59 guest rooms and suites. Those seeking even more seclusion and space can choose from 30 two- to seven-bedroom villas and oceanfront residences, and an eight-bedroom hacienda.
While the accommodations are remarkable on their own, the unspoiled Susurros del Corazón grounds complete the total package. The first features that catch my eye are the three infinity-edge pools framing the resort’s private beach, which spans 1,850 feet ideal for surfing, swimming and paddleboarding. The surrounding jungle seamlessly fades into a spectacular beachfront along the Bahía de Banderas—a truly gorgeous sight. The pool is dotted with luxe cabanas that can be reserved for daytime lounging accompanied by a delicious menu of tequila and mezcal cocktails (or whatever your heart desires), not to mention the freshest guacamole and poke bowls. Other dining options include Casamilpa, the resort’s signature restaurant that serves a rustic Mexican farmhouse menu
ocean view studio; the property cascades down to the bay; chic cabanas overlook three infi nity-edge pools.
After a bit of indulgence, it’s time to unwind at the brand-new ONDA, an Auberge Spa, which proudly opened its doors in November 2023 as the largest spa on the bay. Its name is derived from the Mexican phrase “Que onda?” which asks, “What’s your vibe?”—and the vibe here is a joyful and playful take on
in a modern, indoor-outdoor environment, and La Boquita, an open-air focal point that excels at Mexican musts like tacos, grilled fish and ceviches for lunch and tasty light bites into the evening (catching the sunset here with a glass of Mexican wine is a highlight of my trip). The resort also accommodates special hands-on activities including cooking classes and a chance to create your own signature cocktail, as well as in-room dining.
wellness. The space o ers a hydrotherapy pool, sauna, steam room and well-appointed fitness center, which prioritizes movement with complimentary daily group fitness classes (from core-focused Pilates and yoga to high-intensity boot camp and beginner salsa dancing) and private, expert-led sessions. The 34,900-square-foot sanctuary houses 11 treatment rooms and a high-vibration water playground that includes a vitality pool, citrus saunas, aloe steam rooms and clay showers, with an extensive menu of therapies for the body, skin, hair and scalp. Two nourishing dining concepts, ONDA Cafe and Abunda Table, round out its wellness o erings.
Susurros del Corazón is a charming oasis that provides seclusion and privacy with breathtaking bay views, lush landscaping, memorable dining, immersion in the local culture and heart-filled service with impeccable attention to detail.

For Eric Kurver, the release of AIX Rosé 2023 ushers in a season that refl ects Provence as much as making memories.
BY MICHAEL MCCARTHYTime stands still in Provence. Or at least that’s what locals like Eric Kurver say. As the owner and winemaker at Maison Saint Aix (aixrose.com), he believes the region’s vibe comes from 300 days of sunshine leading to connections with nature and each other. Conviviality and shared moments follow.
“During the day, the ambiance of beautiful squares with fountains and tree-lined streets sets a tranquil backdrop, while evenings bring the city alive with the lively energy of bustling wine bars, students, squares full of restaurants and street music,” says Kurver, whose AIX Rosé 2023 release signals summer’s opening volley.
Rosé, unlike any other wine, matches a seasonal mindset. “We sometimes say rosé is the only wine you don’t talk about but simply enjoy,” says Kurver. For the latest release from the brand, look for balance and complexity,
making the wine easy to pair with summer dishes like salmon, oysters, lobster, light salads, tapas and Asian cuisine.
“AIX Rosé 2023 boasts a fresh, aromatic nose filled with white stone fruit, citrus and wild berries,” says Kurver.
“The vintage enhances its mouthfeel, extending its length while maintaining its bright and crisp character, resulting in a memorable finish.”
I ask Kurver what summer tableaus he imagines for himself in the days ahead.
“Long lunches that seamlessly transition into dinners,” he says, adding, “rounds of pétanque under the Provençal sun, evenings spent savoring dinner and drinks in charming Aix-enProvence, and even exploring the stunning Côte d’Azur.”
All right, maybe time doesn’t stand still in Provence. Instead, it does a slow fade that mimics pink and orange sunsets. No matter. I’ll have what Kurver’s having.
Clockwise from top: The latest release of AIX Rosé; the wine pairs with summer dishes like salmon, oysters and lobster; the wine represents the summer vibe in Provence.THE MARTIN
