elcome to The Eleventh Scholarship Dinner and thank you for supporting this important event. I am pleased to report that more than $2 million dollars has been raised for our endowments during the past six years. The earnings from these endowments provide assistance to families who are committed to providing their children with a Catholic education in the tradition of St. John Baptist de La Salle. Your support helps us to welcome these talented young men and women to our Lasallian community. Those of you who are alumni know that this can be a relationship that lasts a lifetime. Tonight, we honor three individuals who maintain an ongoing relationship with La Salle and who have made tremendous contributions to both La Salle and communities within Rhode Island. We are grateful for their commitment to our mission and their generosity of time and resources. Anthony P. Marandola ’55 is being presented with the Lasallian Legacy Award. A member of the La Salle Academy Hall of Fame, Class of 2014, Tony served on the La Salle Academy Board of Trustees from 2007 to 2012. He was an active participant on the buildings and ground committee, consulting and supervising the construction of the John P. Cronin Fields. He also provided important perspective and advice as a member of the pension advisory committee. In addition, Tony has provided leadership in a number of La Salle capital campaigns. Our Distinguished Alumnus Award is being presented to the Honorable Francis J. Darigan, Jr. ’60 J.D. Justice Darigan retired as Associate Justice of the Rhode Island Superior Court after serving nearly 30 years as a judge. A long-time supporter of La Salle, Justice Darigan was honored for his commitment to his alma mater by admission to the La Salle Hall of Fame, Class of 2004. He has served on the Hall of Fame nominating committee for many years and we appreciate his support and perspective. Monsignor William J. McCaffrey is tonight’s recipient of The Lasallian Service Award. Monsignor has lived a life of service since his early days as a priest teaching religion at La Salle. Monsignor has served in a number of capacities for the Diocese of Providence in addition to leading a number of parishes as pastor. He served La Salle Academy as a member of its Board of Trustees from 2007 to 2016. Congratulations to all of our recipients and a sincere thank you to them, and all of our guests here tonight, for your ongoing support of La Salle. Enjoy your evening. Sincerely,
