1879 1945
Thomas Edison invented the first lightbulb in 1879 and patented it a year later. This was one of the first practical uses for electricity. On August 6th 1945, the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. This was the beginning of nuclear energy and weapons.
1969
On July 20, 1969, the first man step foot on the moon. This was a huge milestone which was the pinnacle of technology.
1947
On December 16, 1947, the transistor was built. This is the birth place of current electronics. Transistors today are incredibly small while the first one was pretty big.
Technology has changed significantly over time. We went from the first lightbulb to the first personal computer in a little over a century, and just 26 years later, we a have a computer multiple times more powerful small enough to fit in our pockets.
1983
The internet was created January 1, 1983 by Bob Kahn and Vint Cerf. The internet is one of the most important inventions ever because it gave people access to large amounts of information and easy communicaiton.
1981
The IBM Personal Computer was released August 12 1981 and was the beginning of the computer that we have today.
1992 2007
The first smartphone was the Simon Personal Communicator by IBM released in 1992. This eventually evolved into the iPhone we have today.
The first iPhone was realeased in June 29, 2007 and was created by Steve Jobs. This changed how people lived their daily lives.
1973
John F. Mitchell and Martin Cooper of Motorola created the first cell phone in 1973. This is the earliest version of the phones we have today.
