Holidays... although they are great for the soul, they aren’t as good for your hair health. The sun, sea and pool are actually your hair’s nemesis. So at the end of a day in the sun we would add a few drops of Spoilt for Choice hair oil which acts as a mask and styling product in one. Pop it into a slick pony and allow the oil to nourish your hair after the day at the beach. Use the brush from our Flyaway Kit to really smooth out the hairline for a super sleek and luxe finish.

Maintaining a healthy head of hair on holiday is a must. “Salt from the sea and chlorine from pools can both strip your colour and make your hair feel very rough and porous”, says resident hair expert from our Notting Hill salon, Skye Haynes. It is important that you pack the right products to take away with you.

We always focus on the hair but sometimes it’s all about what the scalp needs for a well-balanced effect - especially when it has been exposed to the intense sun all day. Larry King explains that you should think about cleansing your scalp in the same way as your skin. “If you were to use a daily cleanser that was harsh and stripping, your complexion would begin to produce oils to combat that effect – and your scalp is no different. The products you use are essential to maintain healthy hair and the natural balance of your scalp.” This is why it’s important to really consider the products you are using. Larry suggests using shampoos that are sulphatefree because “they’re known to be gentler”. The more time and effort you put into maintaining a healthy scalp, the better your hair will look overall.

A Lesson In Fresh Colour

Using colour products changes the chemical makeup of your hair, so it is super important that you give your hair that extra love it needs when you leave the salon doors. The more good products you use to protect and look after your hair once coloured, the healthier it remains. The Larry King Good Life Shampoo is a firm favourite of LK colourist Luci Green for preventing the colour from fading and keeping it more vibrant between appointments. If you’re going to invest in good colour, then you need to invest in good aftercare.

Aniah Warner, our newest homegrown colourist from South Kensington, advises using “mostly moisturising and hydrating products - but also not forgetting protein too. Your hair will still need both but be careful not to

overuse protein products as it can result in brittleness. If used correctly, it will definitely keep the health of your hair in great condition.”

Maintaining The Mane

Treating your hair with the right products when regularly colouring it is very important to ensure your colour looks alive and fresh. South Kensington colourist, and expert in blondes and balayage, Sarah Philpot recommends regularly using our Spoilt For Choice hair oil as a hair mask.

“This can be more intense than your regular conditioner: it adds moisture and nutrients, increases shine and prevents frizz. Similar to your skincare routine, your hair needs a routine too!” Add our Spoilt For Choice hair oil to your routine, on wet or dry hair, to create even more shine, softness and control.

Try to avoid using harsh shampoos that will strip the colour. Always have sulphate free shampoos. Depending on the tones of your hair, a blue shampoo for brunettes can neutralise unwanted warm tones and a purple shampoo for blondes can enhance cleaner neutral tones. Make sure you are keeping up with toners in between your appointments to keep the colour looking fresh; Skye suggests every 4 weeks. nourishment. A few drops as a head massage treatment would be nice and this is something that you can do at home. For all colours, it’s great for locking in the cuticles and giving hair that amazing shine. The oil locks in the cuticles, which will help prevent the colour from fading. So from a colourist’s perspective, it helps colour last longerand work as a barrier. Ultimately, it adds shine and shows off that beautiful colour!

If you have highlighted curly or coily hair and diffuse-dry your hair, you can use the oil to define the curls and enhance the colour. “It will really bring out the brightness and make it pop. It will also be great for your hair health, especially if you’ve been highlighting your hair and it’s a little bit wavy. The oil will be great for nourishing the hair”, says Luci Green.

Harriet Muldoon, our South Kensington blonde expert, also suggests using our Spoilt For Choice hair oil as a backwash treatment after people have had scalp bleaches. It is nice to run the oil onto the scalp for the
