Garden clubbers spring fete, League views Hall fashions The Hancock Park Garden Club celebrated the season on April 22 at the California Club with a “Splendid Spring with Southern Style” luncheon featuring “Southern Living Magazine” editor, James T. Farmer. Among raconteur Farmer’s notable quotes: “Fluff it, monogram it, and if all else fails, spray paint it gold!” Among the members and supporters of the 53-year-old organization that assists in maintaining the beauty of civic green spaces were: luncheon chairs Carlotta Keely, Pamela Clyne and Cheryl Ziegler, Hancock Park Garden Club president Peggy Jo Clark, board officers Amanda Mansour, Helen Hartung, Gina Brandt, Michaela Burshinger and Annie Johnson, HPGC patrons Oona Kanner, Edie Frere, Toni Hodgkiss, Sue Ellen Waters, Mary Newman, Lisa Hutchins, Gill Wagner, Janet Rohman,

and Ginger Lincoln along with Patty Lombard, Julie Grist, Melanie Boettcher, Stephanie Sourapas, Patti Carroll, Sabrina Duff, Ali Jack, Cathy Gleason, Sue Carr, Lisa Morrison and Suz Landay. *** Celebrations of the season continued as 600 attendees gathered at the Four Seasons HoAround tel for the the Assistance Town League of Los Angewith les’ annual Patty Hill “Spring Affaire” luncheon April 25. Bells rang for this year’s honoree Karla Ahmanson for her inspiring dedication to the League’s Operation School Bell Auxiliary. “We must not lose focus on the role women play in charity. They work,

raise children and find time to volunteer,” she said as she received the commemorative “Bell.” Master of ceremonies Leonard Maltin paid tribute to the Auxiliary that includes his wife, Alice, a member since 1997. Then came a spectacular runway show featuring designs by Kevan Hall who has dressed the likes of Michelle Obama, Vanessa Williams and Virginia Madsen. Guests enjoyed a preview of Hall’s new sportswear line and day and evening wear of retro floral prints with a modern twist and plaid graphics-gone-right. The organization’s board vice president Hilary Crahan put loving care into every detail, raising the bar as well as necessary funds for scholarships to emerging artists and designers. “Mocktails” of mandarin juice were mixed by guests with herbal tea contained in large syringes as they viewed videos created by art students. The elaborately costumed dancers of the Bombay Steps Company led everyone past curtains of feathers into dinner. Guests settled around tables centered with arrangements of exotic fruits and herb greenery for a very hands-on dinner including eggplant chutney and tagine chicken. Among the minions taking in the aromas of turmeric, cinnamon and cumin were Hilary’s very proud mother Missy Crahan, Hilary’s fellow Marlborough alumnae Maria Kerrigan, Anne Manrique and Anne Schwab, also Gloria and Ed Renwick, Jeb Bonner, Shirley Wilson and Mary and Kevin O’Connell. And that’s the chat!
