Scientists, executives inspire seniors This year is Larchmont Charter’s first graduating class, plus an actor, a Fox executive and scientists are among area commencement speakers for this year’s graduating classes. Rita Tuzon, executive vice president and general counsel at Fox Network Group, addressed 100 Marymount High School seniors May 27 at their on-campus graduation ceremony. Eighty-four Buckley seniors selected their long-time math teacher and senior class advisor, Sue Sherman, as speaker for their May 28 commencement. She has been at Buckley for 30 years and also is a California Interscholastic Federation winning tennis coach and upper school dean. Immaculate Heart’s 113 graduates heard Karie Huchting, Ph.D. May 31 at the Hollywood Bowl. Dr. Huchting is a 1996 Immaculate Heart alumna and assistant professor in quantitative research and educational leadership at Loyola Marymount University. Marlborough’s 80 seniors will accept their diplomas on the newly expanded Booth Field at the school Thurs., June 2. chairman, and who is the owner of The Grove, give the commencement address Sat., June 4 at the school’s Venice Blvd. campus. Mark Brooks, departing head of school at Pilgrim, will address 21 seniors in the main sanctuary of First Congregational Church Mon., June 6. Los Angeles High School graduates will number 300 at their commencement ceremony on the campus football field Thurs., June 9. Harvard-Westlake graduates will number 285 at their commencement on the school’s Ted Slavin Field Fri., June 10. Mark Feuerstein, former member of the school’s board of directors and a current Larchmont Charter parent, will address the first graduating senior class for Larchmont Charter High School at its Lafayette Campus. 43 in all will march across the stage Thurs., June 16 at Glendale Community College. Mark Feuerstein is also known for his work in film and television, including his leading role in the TV series “Royal Pains.”
By Billy Taylor Twins Ashley and Emily Kishibay are seniors at Immaculate Heart High School, but this fall they will matriculate separately for the first time. The two girls attended Third Street Elementary and then Immaculate Heart middle and high schools together, but when it came to choosing a university they made different decisions. However, they won’t be too far apart because they both picked all-girls colleges in Massachusetts. Ashley will attend Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in central Massachusetts, while Emily will be in the western part of the state at Mount Holyoke. “I love WPI’s beautiful campus,” says Ashley, “but it was their unique courses and supportive environment that really tipped the scale.” Ashley says she started her search by identifying 10 colleges that had a focus in math and science, and visited six of them. She narrowed the list to three, which included

Wellesley and Smith, before deciding on WPI. Ashley says she is focused on studying Chemistry, but is keeping an open mind. For Emily, it was a difficult decision. “Especially with the numerous enticing brochures and letters sent to me and my parents,” she says. She started her search with a list of 12 schools with good computer science programs, and narrowed that list to include Wellesley and WPI, before deciding on Mount Holyoke. The twins’ mother Donna Kishibay says that because they have been together their entire lives, “this will be a new (Please turn to page 4)
