DEATH OF HORSES AT BERTH CUP IGNITES PROTESTS

The most well-known horse race in WA was called off in the middle of the race on January 1 at Ascot Racecourse after two horses rolled on the ground in front of about 10,000 spectators.

Chili Is Hot, a West Australian mare, had to be put down at the track, while Dom To Shoot, another horse hurt in the fall, sustained cuts and a leg injury.

Outside Ascot Racecourse, cardboard markers were thrown into the grass with the words “RIP” written above the names of the deceased horses. The public, according to demonstrators, will be much more on their side and understanding of their aim to put an end to racing as a result of the tragic death. “There is clearly injustice being done to the horses, and we as a people ought to take action,” was another remark.
