Equine World Mourns Death Of Champion Jockey Avery Whisman

The equine community was shocked to learn that champion jockey Avery Whisman passed away on January 14 at the age of 23. Although the cause of death has not been determined, one story claims that the rider may have died as a result of a “prolonged fight with the unyielding physical and mental demands put on riders.” Whisman rode in 810 races during the course of his brief three-year career, winning 90 of them. His most recent competitive excursion took place at the Presque Isle Racetrack in Pennsylvania last August. The young jockey broke a track record when he rode “Simply Furious” to victory in the £80,000 Karl Boyes Stakes at the same track in July.

He lost consciousness while riding his horse, seriously hurting himself. The artist was brought to a local hospital after the unexpected mishap, where the doctor admitted him and provided first aid.
