This course introduces students to Word Processing, Data Entry, File Management, Computer Graphics, Spreadsheets, Databases.
Word Processing - To enable the learner to create documents in a word processing application, save the document, close, retrieve, make changes and save again.
I.T. Skills - To create an awareness of I.T. concepts and technology and the impact of Information Technology on everyday life. To facilitate the learner to organise their files, folders and computer workspace and develop the skills to use the Internet and email and data entry.
Computer Application - To develop an understanding of the uses of database, spreadsheet and graphics software and the terminology and language appropriate to each.

This course has been designed to teach the basic retail skills, required by most retail employers.

Word Processing: To enable the learner to create documents in a word processing application, save the document, close, retrieve, make changes and save again.
Spreadsheets: To facilitate the learner to create and make modifications to spreadsheet documents, to enable the learner to use spreadsheet functions and formulae for calculations and use a variety of commands to display data attractively.
Retail Selling: Explain the principles and capabilities of a range of technologies currently utilised in the retail sector to include cash registers, bar code scanners, electronic payment units, security devices, and stock control systems. Interpret key terminology and trends in retail selling, Analyse the impact of a range of factors on a retail environment to include customer loyalty, merchandising, retail ethics, training and communications skills.

There is an exam fee of €20 in year 1. Year 2 is free to those students who complete year 1.
On successful completion of this programme, students may progress to the QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Business Management. The QQI Level 5 award facilitates entry, on a competitive basis, to a Higher Certificate in Business Studies in Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT). Students can also apply to other 3rd Level institutions under the Higher Education Links Scheme, or as a mature student. The programme will enhance opportunities in securing an apprenticeship in Financial Services, Accounting Technician, or Insurance Practitioner.
Holders of a QQI Level 5 Business Studies Certificate may seek employment in a clerical capacity in a wide range of business sectors including banking, insurance, solicitors, H.S.E. and local authorities etc.

NFQ Level 5/Stage 1
This two-year part-time ELC Programme enables the learner to develop the knowledge, skills and competencies required to work with children (0 - 6 years) and contribute to the provision of a quality environment, within an ELC setting.
Year 1

Graduates of the NFQ Level 5, ELC Programme are qualified to work as Early Years Educators in TUSLA registered early years services (full or part-time services).
Having achieved Stage 1 of the ELC Programme, learners may continue their studies and progress to NFQ Level 6/Stage 2 of the ELC Programme, which leads to the Advanced Certificate in Early Learning and Care. Options at Higher Education are also available to graduates.
Leaving Certificate, Leaving Certificate Applied or equivalent standard of education. Mature learners are also welcome to apply. All applicants are subject to interview and written assessments.
The minimum English language and literacy competence at entry to the programme for speakers of English as a second language is Common European Framework of Reference for Languages , B2 in writing, reading, listening and speaking.

Successful graduates will be able to obtain employment as healthcare workers in hospitals, nursing homes, community day services and as homehelp support.
Leaving Certificate or QQI Level 4, equivalent standard of education. All applicants are subject to an online assessment. Garda vetting is also required.
This module aims to equip the learner with the knowledge, skills to use a word processing application to produce documents in a variety of contexts.
Learners will complete the following: text manipulation, document formatting, graphics, tabs, tables, mail merge and label printing. Identify toolbar icons, file handling and text formatting, create documents applying a range of text processing features including – margins and line spacing, indenting text and paragraphs, borders and shading, numbering and bullets, copying and pasting text, enhancing text, headers and footers, page numbering, paper size and orientation, spell check, thesaurus, search and replace, creating files and folders, saving files in different formats, copying files and folders, renaming files, accessing file details, finding files using search facility, creating tables, resizing, merging cells, inserting or deleting columns and rows, aligning text, applying borders and shading to tables and sorting table content.
