This full-time one-year programme offers an introduction to the theory and practice of Social Studies, Special Needs and Psychology. It aims to increase awareness of the practical applications of social and psychological theory, while also developing the skills and role of the Special Needs Assistant.

It is also relevant to those interested in applying psychological theories to the area of Special Needs Assisting in an educational setting. The course allows graduates to progress to a number of Third Level courses or to progress to employment as a Special Needs Assistant (SNA).

Progression Options Links to 3rd Level: Students can apply to a variety of third level programmes in the Social Care and Humanities field, including TUS (Technological University of the Shannon), MU, GMIT, NUI Galway, and South East Technological University (SETU), Carlow.

Career Options: This programme equips the student with the basic skills to work in community agencies such as family resource centres, residential care centres, community, and voluntary organisations. Entry Requirements Leaving Certificate or QQI Level 4, or equivalent standard of education. All applicants are subject to an interview and an online assessment. All applicants will be subject to Garda Vetting.
