It's that time of year again, when people across Northeast Georgia adopt ducks to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier. This year, luck, along with fast ducks can win some of more than $20,000 in cash and prizes for their adopters at the annual event that will take place on Saturday, May 15, at Lake Lanier Olympic Park.

Northeast Georgia Health System is the presenting sponsor. Other sponsorship levels are available through the club’s website.

“We are so glad to be back at Lake Lanier Olympic Park this year after a twoyear absence,” said Brenda Bohn, development and communications director for the organization. “Two years ago we were forced to cancel the event because of severe weather, and last year when everything was shut down because of the pandemic, we transitioned to a virtual format. People have already told us how excited they are to be able to participate in person this year.”

The grand prize of $10,000 cash will be awarded to the person whose duck crosses the finish line first. Other prizes include a $5,000 diamond solitaire courtesy of Gainesville Jewelry, a general mechanic’s tool kit from Kippertool valued at more than $3,000, and a 2-night stay and golf package for four at Lanier Islands’ Legacy Lodge.

“Prizes will be awarded to adopters of the first 10 ducks that cross the finish line,” Bohn said.

The Duck Derby, which takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. is a family event and will include music, food trucks, games and children’s activities. The duck race begins at 2:30.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier with 15 locations across Northeast Georgia serves more than 7,000 youth annually. Programs include character and citizenship, after-school activities, sports leagues, academic support, healthy lifestyles and summer camps.
