GRADE 1 MANDARIN CMSC1001 Children are taught basic phonetics, the four tones in the Mandarin language, simple characters, basic keystrokes, rhyme recitals and storytelling.

GRADE 8 MANDARIN CMSC1008 This course encourages children in the appropriate use of idioms and focuses on increasing their level of conversational fluency.

GRADE 2 MANDARIN CMSC1002 Children are taught correct intonation, an introduction to the fundamentals of the language, phrase structure, picture composition and poem recitals.

GRADE 9 MANDARIN CMSC1009 Children practise public speaking and presentation skills in the Mandarin language. They will also learn about and gain a deeper understanding of the Chinese culture. Children will be introduced to basic Chinese brush writing.

$155 GRADE 3 MANDARIN CMSC1003 Children are introduced to keystroke practice, sentence structure, homonyms, synonyms, poems, and short stories. $155 GRADE 4 MANDARIN CMSC1004 New words are added to children’s vocabulary to stimulate the understanding of synonyms, antonyms and other Mandarin language fundamentals. $155 GRADE 5 MANDARIN CMSC1005 Emphasis is placed on language comprehension. Children practise sentence structure, the use of antonyms and techniques to improve their Mandarin communication skills. $155 GRADE 6 MANDARIN CMSC1006 Using the techniques taught in Grades 1 to 5, children are encouraged to keep a Mandarin language diary. $155 GRADE 7 MANDARIN CMSC1007 Children are taught words that will reinforce the language’s pictorial origin and rich cultural background.

MANDARIN KINDERGARTEN CMSC1042 Pre-primary classes are subdivided into Levels 1 and 2. The emphasis is on learning through activities: singing, poems, nursery rhymes, storytelling and games. These activities are used to lay a foundation for the child’s understanding of the Mandarin language.

$155 GRADE 10 MANDARIN CMSC1010 Adding to Mandarin language skills taught in the lower grades, children are introduced to positive values of famous characters from around the world to stimulate the students’ interdisciplinary education. $155 GRADE 11 MANDARIN CMSC1011 Emphasizing the use of Mandarin for communication, news forums and debates are organized to stimulate the students’ thinking and expression. $155

$155 MANDARIN MATH CMSC1015 Currently accepting students from ages 4 to 16. This course aims to stimulate the student’s interest in mathematics by strengthening their analytical skills. Individual attention and customized assignments are provided to each student so they can advance at their own pace. Note: Course material is not included.

$235 CHILDREN’S DRAWING CMSC1016 Designed for children five to 12 years old, this course encourages free play of ideas and free roaming imagination. Using drawing techniques to create different types of expression, the child will invent stories and enjoy their imagination and creations. Note: Course material is not included.

GRADE 12 MANDARIN CMSC1012 Building on skills learned in Grade 11 Mandarin, this course provides the student with more practice in developing their Mandarin communication skills. The course prepares the students to take the Challenge Test. $155

$155 PENCIL & CHARCOAL DRAWING CMSC1025 An introductory course designed to expand the basic elements of good draftsmanship for children eight years and older. All skill levels welcome. Note: Supplies are not included in course fees and may be purchased at the Langara Bookstore

ADVANCED 01, 02, 03 CMSC1013 Through literary write-ups and critiquing articles, the student begins to use the Mandarin language more intimately. The skills learned in previous grades are reinforced.
