Sometimes, house owners take pride in creating their own rock landscapes to take advantage of the rocky slopes in their backyards. Some others would throw rocks into these yards because they are plain and flat. It would seem to be quite harmful to our backs. Truthfully, it is really quite worth the effort.

In designing your own rock landscape, space is something that needs to be considered. Larger spaces could create a naturalistic, slumping effect of the garden. Smaller spaces would create a mound raised bed with rocks. These types would be convenient in mowing the lawn and it won’t be a hassle when it comes to the regular maintenance.

A perfect outline for this would be creating a circle of stones and filling it with soil. As a general rule, rock gardens require a loam with a good drainage. Landscape sand in Utah provides this purpose. Sometimes, clay is also added to the sand to enhance the drainage system. Compost could also be added.

It would only create a bad-looking abstract view for your garden. A unified look could be what you need to create the garden that you desire. Stick to the theme that you planned. Different plants would only disturb the supposed-to-be-serene effect of the garden. Another thing, shrubbery serves as the backbone for the creative artwork.

It would create an enchanting effect of the garden especially during spring. As you continue to plant, you could add more rocks scattering them throughout the garden. This would give the garden a subtle harmony between the plants and the rocks. Mulching is also a part of this activity despite the possibility that it might look out of place in the garden.
