The property industry charity together we can do more

Making a real difference This quarter we mark two major new projects which further underline LandAid’s commitment to making a real difference in helping the young and disadvantaged to transform their lives. The lead donation of £50,000 that LandAid has made to providing a flagship learning centre in Hackney, run by youth charity Fairbridge, will give more than 200 young people in North London access to the facilities and support they so need. LandAid’s funding of a project in Birmingham with youth homelessness charity St Basils represents an important milestone in spreading the impact of our work outside London. Sincere thanks go to SEGRO who, in addition to making a major

donation to fund the project, are providing valuable project management support. Making full use of industry expertise is something we want to develop. Such projects are only possible with your support – as Foundation Partners, corporate and individual donors, sponsors of LandAid events, and participants in fundraising activities. Thank you for this support – long may it continue! Robin Broadhurst Chairman

The specially designed new centre replaces old premises with larger brighter facilities where over 200 young people between the ages of 13-25 can come to, away from the streets. At the centre the young people take part in constructive and challenging activities and receive a programme of tailored support to help them get back into education or find a job. In 2008 over 64% of the young people in Hackney were able to move on positively; now with better facilities even more young people will have the opportunity to go on and succeed.

LandAid extends Foundations for Life programme to Birmingham The New Year brought joy to the young residents of Gillott Road, a supported housing scheme run by St Basils, the leading youth homelessness charity in Birmingham, as the project to provide a dedicated Foundations for Life Centre got underway. The extension and refurbishment of Gillott Road will transform the facilities there by providing an IT Suite, training room, office space, and additional accommodation. Foundations for Life is an initiative which gives homeless young people ready access to the facilities, training and support they need to help them get back into education, training or work. This is the first such centre outside London, reflecting LandAid’s intention to provide a network of facilities around the

country to add to the existing five FFL centres in London.

your financial support and professional expertise can really make a difference.

LandAid’s funding of the project is being met by a three year commitment totalling £120k from SEGRO, one of LandAid’s Foundation Partners, as part of its support of the industry charity’s work with the young and disadvantaged. SEGRO is providing free project management support to help make sure that the project is delivered on time and budget.

Ian Coull, SEGRO Chief Executive, said: “LandAid do an incredible job in support of young, disadvantaged people and we are delighted to help them deliver that support. In particular we are proud to be able to help provide extra facilities to the housing scheme run by St Basils in Birmingham. This is a key project that will benefit not only the young residents but young people from the surrounding area covered by this programme, too. The Foundations For Life programme is achieving great things, and I would encourage other property companies to get involved.”

LandAid is hopeful that this will be the first of many such projects and is keen to identify other industry partners who want to make a similar impact in the community by funding an entire project and providing professional support. We will be pleased to find a suitable opportunity where
