Perhaps the greatest advancement with emerging technology is the way in which designers are able to collaborate across platforms and various disciplines giving the once very linear refinement process new fluid meaning in design development. LaN seeks to evoke the potential and

Digital tools have in fact brought us back to a closeness with materiality and physicality. Some may think the end goal of increasing digital powers is a digital end itself... we disagree. Its in using digital tools that we can achieve greater means to building and interacting with our physical environment.
// PARAMETRIC DESIGN
The term ‘parametric’ is often underrepresented as simply relevant in a modeling tool sense. The idea of working parametrically has as much to do with design congruence between multiple phases of a project. Parametric design introduces a shift in architectural development— moving away from narrative driven deterministic design towards an iterative, bottomup process. Challenging participants to adapt to design process shifts has been the greatest of challenges in our experience and consequently the most rewarding.
// NATURAL FORCES / DATA-FED DESIGN
With new ways of readily analyzing and simulating natural forces this topic will introduce the potential of performance driven design, especially via context-specific customized design elements.
// FULL-SCALE PROTOTYPING
To reiterate the architectural role is once again moving beyond representing to design informed by production and material properties, 1:1 scale prototyping experience is a crucial. Participants typically will be asked to work hands on (via available CNC production options) at real scale with their digital files to physical forms and back (creating a feedback loop). // DESIGN-SCIENCE / EXPERIMENT DON’T ENVISION
Prioritizing the search for non-envisioned form / results via strategies of enabling bottom-up processes to yield unpredictable results. Design an experiment, not the result.
