LAMDA MishMash Festival

Saturday 4 May & Sunday 5 May 2024

MishMash celebrates self-created work from LAMDA alumni and their contemporaries, with sharings of newly commissioned work-in-progress pieces, as well as panel talks and workshops delving into industry-relevant topics.

The MishMash Team and each creative involved in bringing their work to the festival really value your feedback. There are feedback forms available throughout the festival – please do share your thoughts about the performances and the festival itself.

We would like to thank the Backstage Trust, Philip Carne MBE and Christine Carne, Geoff and Linda Lepard, the Noël Coward Foundation, the Mila Charitable Organisation, and others who wish to remain anonymous for their generous support of the festival.

INTRODUCTION

Welcome to the 2024 LAMDA MishMash Festival. It has been a real privilege to be able to select and work with the 21 artists commissioned to develop new pieces of work for this festival. Having received over 100 applications, the range and quality of ideas presented to us was incredibly strong and we are thrilled to be celebrating the early creations of those ideas this weekend.

All performances across this weekend are works-in-progress. There will be opportunities to provide feedback to aid the future development of the works. We will also be meeting artists at different stages of their own relationships with making work –for some this is their first experience of writing or making their own work.

The MishMash Festival was founded from a desire for increased empowerment and agency amongst early career artists. It fuels opportunity for risk taking and collaboration. The last 12 months have seen huge challenges across the sector, particularly for new work and artist development. It feels all the more important to be able to come together in a space that celebrates the skill development, creativity and artistic expression of LAMDA alumni and their contemporaries.

Please enjoy the festival and continue to support new work!

HOW IT WORKS

Create a programme that suits you. Attend panel talks with industry professionals, workshops led by creatives, and performances featuring 10, 20 and 40-minute work-in-progress pieces presented by LAMDA alumni and their contemporaries.

10-minute pieces will be performed back to back in groups of four. The total running time is approximately 1 hour. Look for 4x4 in the programme.

20-minute pieces will be performed back to back with a total running time of approximately 1 hour. Look for Half & Half in the programme.

40-minute pieces are standalone performances presented by one creative team. Look out for titled pieces in the programme.

Unless sold out, tickets will be available for each performance slot up until the scheduled start time. Book online at lamda.ac.uk/mishmash-programme

EXPLORING THE FESTIVAL

MishMash takes place at LAMDA’s West London campus, with performances, panels and workshops across our theatre and studio performance spaces.

Use the MishMash map in the central foyer, follow the signs around the building, or ask one of our friendly Front of House Team for help finding your way.

In the foyer, you’ll also find a full list of that day’s programme, helping you find events to attend throughout the day.

Enjoy the food and drink on offer at LAMDA throughout the weekend, or take the opportunity to visit one of the bars or restaurants in the local area.
