WILLKOMMEN

Berlin eine eine Metropole, wo viele Kulturen der Welt zusammenströmen und wo jeder sich wiedererkennen kann. In jedem Viertel ist die lateinamerikanische Mischung in ihren unterschiedlichen Ausdrucksformen präsent. Lakino versteht sich als eine dieser Ausdrucksformen, die Jahr um Jahr danach strebt, das Kurzfilmfestival von größter Anerkennung in Deutschland zu sein, welches das Herausragendste des lateinamerikanischen Kinos versammelt und prämiert. Ab sofort ist es unsere Mission, die besten lateinamerikanischen Kurzfilme zu finden und nach Berlin zu bringen, um das Zusammentreffen von Filmemachern, Filmen und Zuschauern zu fördern und so die filmische Produktion anzutreiben und die Stadt auf der Weltkarte der lateinamerikanischen Festivals zu platzieren. Lakino ist so wie viele Ideen und Träume entstanden; daher Dank an unsere Freunde, die sich dem Team aus vielen Teilen der Welt angeschlossen haben, an diejenigen, die uns ihre besten Energien geschickt haben, danke für den Rat befreundeter Festivals in Berlin und Europa und an die Institutionen, die an das Projekt geglaubt haben. Das LakinoTeam kann nach 9 Monaten sagen: Wir haben es geschafft! Die Voraussetzung, dass ein Kurzfilm an unserer Ausschreibung teilnehmen konnte, war, dass der Regisseur oder der Produzent oder die Hauptdarsteller oder das Thema des Kurzfilms lateinamerikanisch war/en. Zwischen dem 1. Januar und dem 30. Juni wurde mit 350 Kurzfilmen auf unsere Ausschreibung geantwortet, die aus 28 Ländern eingeschickt wurden, aus den Bereichen Dokumentarfilm, Experimentarfilm, Spielfilm und Animation. In allen war die Gedankenwelt des lateinamerikanischen Kontinents mit seinen Problemen und Träumen sehr präsent. Nun ist endlich der Tag gekommen, Lakino dem Berliner Publikum vorzustellen. Wir haben mit Sorgfalt ein Programm gestaltet, von dem wir sicher sind, dass es Ihnen gefallen wird. Jetzt sind Sie damit an der Reihe, es zu genießen. Martín Capatinta Festivalleiter Lakino Berlin

Vor neun Monaten haben wir damit angefangen, dem Traum von Martín Capatinta eine Form zu geben. Obwohl es seltsam, schwierig und sogar unmöglich erscheinen mag, kann man Träume realisieren. Ich lernte dies während ich als Projektleiterin in Stereonoise Barcelona tätig war und durch meine Arbeit als Produzentin hier in Lakino in den letzten Monaten. ”Nichts ist ausgeschlossen”. Mit Lust, Arbeit und Eifer ist alles möglich. Und um dies zu bestätigen, kommen Sie einfach herein und sehen Sie, wie das erste Lateinamerikanische Kurzfilmfestival in Berlin entsteht. Für mich war es eine Ehre, dabei zu helfen, einen Traum zu realisieren und es bleibt mir nur, ihn mit Ihnen allen zu teilen. WELCOME

Berlin is a thriving metropolis where many world cultures collide and where anyone can recognise the Latin-American mix in its many forms present in every neighbourhood. Lakino is only one of a number of festivals that strive year on year to become the most prestigious and world reknowned festival in Germany, collecting and awarding the most outstanding works of Latin-American cinema. It is now our mission to bring the cream of the Latin-American short film crop to Berlin to promote the sharing of ideas between filmmakers and public, and inspire cinematic production, as well as placing the city on the map of Latin-American film festivals worldwide. Lakino began as the product of many dreams and ideas; then developed thanks to the many friends that came together from all over the world to form our team, and thanks to those who have devoted the greater part of their energy to us, the advice from our friends at other festivals in Berlin and the rest of Europe, and to the institutions that had belief in the project. The Lakino team is now able to say after 9 months: we´ve made it! Our prerequisites for entry into the short film competition were that either its director, producer, a lead actor, or theme be Latin-American, and from the 1st of January to the 30th of July 350 short films responded to our call: from 28 countries and a variety of genres, such as documentary, experimental, fictional and animation films, and the Latin American imagination is clear to see in all of them; its problems, its dreams, etc. The day has finally come to present Lakino to the Berlin public; we have worked hard to design a programme that we feel will be to your liking, and iall that is left is for you to enjoy it. It was nine months ago that we began to bring Martin Capatinta’s dream to life. Although it may seem strange, difficult or even impossible to believe, dreams can come true. I learnt this during my period as project director of Stereonoise in Barcelona, and whilst producing Lakino here in Berlin in recent months. “Nothing is impossible”- everything is possible with enthusiasm, energy and graft. And if you want to see the living proof, you have only to come and witness the birth of Berlin’s first Latin-American shortfilm festival. VON EINEM FESTIVAL ZUM ANDERN FROM ONE FESTIVAL TO ANOTHER Lakino ist ein neues wichtiges Festival in der Berliner Filmlandschaft, welches die Vielseitigkeit der lateinamerikanischen Kultur zu uns bringt, die sich besonders im Kurzfilm durch seine Unabhängigkeit und kreative Vielfalt wiederspiegelt. Gerade im Kurzfilmbereich ist in den letzten Jahren dort viel passiert. Das gegenseitige Interesse speziell zwischen Berlin und Lateinamerika ist in den vergangenen Jahren enorm gestiegen. Sowohl das deutsche Publikum als auch das spanisch und portugisisch sprechende und internationale Publikum hat ein großes Interesse, Kurzfilme zu sehen, die Geschichten aus Lateinamerika mit seinen Gegensätzlichkeiten, Umbrüchen, Realitäten und Mythen erzählen. Interfilm wünscht Lakino einen erfolgreichen Start, eine lange Zukunft und eine fruchtbare Zusammenarbeit. Lakino is an important new feature on the Berlin filmfestival landscape, which reveals the multifaceted Latin-American culture to us. The independence and creative diversity of short film makes it especially adept at reflecting this variety and there has been a great deal of development in this industry in recent years. Mutual interest between Berlin and Latin-America has greatly increased in years gone by, and the international public, whether it be German, Spanish or Portuguese speaking, is greatly interested in seeing short films that relate stories of the dichotomies, upheavals, realities and myths of the South-American continent. JURYS JURIES

MASSIMO FORLEO arbeitet seit 1981 für RAI (Italienisches Radio und Fernsehen) und ist dort für verschiedene Kultur und Kino programme zuständig. Er war Gründer und Leiter des “Festival del Cinema Latinoamericano di Trieste“ und rief den Kinoclub “Il Labirinto“ ins Leben, dessen Vorsitzender er bis 2009 war. Zurzeit leitet er das “Festival Internazionale di Cortometraggi e Nuoe Immagini Arcipelago”. MASSIMO FORLEO has worked for RAI (Italian Radio and TV) since 1981 and is responsible for their culture and cinema programme. He founded and lead the Trieste Latin American Filmfestival and founded the “Il Labirinto” filmclub, which he headed til 2009. He is currently the head of Festival Internazionale di Cortometraggi e Nuoe Immagini Arcipelago.

JACQUELINE BELLO ISAÍAS Die Dominikanerin ist Filmschaffende, Architektin und unabhängige Produzentin. Unter anderem ist sie auch Präsidentin der Fundación Académica del Nuevo Cine und Professorin für Film an der Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo. Sie hat sowohl vor als auch hinter der Kamera gearbeitet. Dominican Republican JACQUELINE BELLO ISAÍAS is a filmmaker, architect and independent producer. Amongst her other achievements she is the president of the Fundación Académica del Nuevo Cine and film professor at the Independent University of Santo Domingo. She is currently responsible for the production of the Dominican Short Film festival of new cinema. She has worked both in front of and behind the camera.

CARLOS LARRONDO wurde 1973 in Argentinien geboren. Er studierte Bild und Klang an der Universität von Buenos Aires, wo er auch seine ersten fiktionalen und dokumentarischen Kurzfilme verwirklichte. Ende der neunziger Jahre drehte er in Barcelona Videos u. a. für Manu Chao. Sein erstes längeres Filmprojekt „LT22 Radio La Colifata“, an dem er über zehn Jahre gearbeitet hat, wurde ein voller Erfolg und gewann zahlreiche Preise auf internationalen Festivals. CARLOS LARRONDO was born in 1973 in Argentina. He studied image and sound at the university of Buenos Aires, where he also made his first fictional and documentary shorts. At the end of the nineties he filmed videos for Manu Chao in Barcelona. His first feature film LT22 Radio La Colifata took him 11 years to create and was an overwhelming success, winning prizes at many international fesivals.

CHE ANDRÉ BERGENDAHL Der Berliner studierte Film und Theater in New York und arbeitet seit 17 Jahren in allen Kinobereichen. Er gründete das Netzwerk “Firstclass Guerilla“ zur Unterstützung von Street Art und urbanen Künstlern sowie zur Entwicklung von Ideen im Internet. Bergendahl fördert dieses Konzept in der Hoffnung, dass immer mehr Künstler von ihrer Kunst leben können. Berliner CHE ANDRÉ BERGENDAHL studied film and theatre in New York and has been working in all aspects of filmmaking for seventeen years. He is the founder of the “Firstclass Guerilla” network which aims to support street art and urban artists as well as develop ideas on the internet. Bergendahl is fostering this concept in the hope that in the near future more artists will be able to survive on their work alone.

MARINA LUDEMANN Nach Abschluss ihres Magisterstudiums arbeitete Marina Ludemann als Journalistin. Seit 1988 ist sie für das Goethe-Institut tätig. Von 2002 bis 2009 war sie Leiterin der Programmabteilung des Goethe-Instituts Sao Paulo, dann Leiterin des Bereichs Besucherprogramms in Berlin. Zurzeit ist sie Referentin für Film in der Zentrale des Goethe-Instituts, zuständig für die Koordination der Filmprogramme im Ausland. MARINA LUDEMANN. After finishing her masters Marina Ludemann worked as a journalist. Since 1988 she has worked for the Goethe-Institute and is currently the film director in the Goethe-Insitute headoffice, responsable for the coordination of the foreign film programe.

PREISE PRIZES 1. Die Jury setzt sich aus Persönlichkeiten der audio-visuellen Medien zusammen. Sie bestimmen nach den beiden Wettbewerbsvorführungen ihren “Besten Kurzfilm”. Zeitgleich stimmt auch das Publikum ab und vergibt mit dem Publikumspreis seinen “Besten Kurzfilm”. 2. Bei Lakino gibt es folgende Preise zu gewinnen, die Gewinner werden auf dem Abschlussfest von LAKINO 2010 und auf unserer Website bekannt gegeben: 2.1. Preis der Jury für den besten Kurzfilm/ Publikumspreis für den besten Kurzfilm - 1000 € Preisgeld (nur Preis der Jury) - Stipendium der Akademische Stiftung des neuen Kinos (La Fundación Académica del Nuevo Cine) für einen Intensivfilmkurs in der Dominikanischen Republik (entweder Regie/Produktion, Drehbuch, oder Dokumentation One to One). 2.2 Publikumspreis für den besten Kurzfilm: Das oben detallierte Stipendium. 3. Es ist zulässig, dass ein Kurzfilm beide Preise gewinnt (Jurypreis und Publikumspreis).

When we decided to embark on this adventure, we imagined that we would be offering a small window for the Berlin public to look through and gain an idea of the riches and vitality of Latin-American cinema. The mice have taken over the house; the silence is filled with things that have not been said. A mother, a child and a lover fall in and out of love with each other, and are left trapped in a labyrinth of neglect.

A boy´s death in a poor neighborhood in Brazil shows his parents´pain and indignation, at not being able to give him his last moments of dignity.

Señal de Vida México, Diana Peñaloza 10' 2008, HD Das Schicksal vereinigt zwei Unbekannte: ein schwangeres Mädchen und einen einsamen Mann. Beide erkennen ihre eigenen Ängste und Hoffnungen in dem Anderen. Destiny touches the life of two strangers: a pregnant girl and a lonely man. Each one of them discovers an echo of their own fear and hope within the other.

El Mounstro Uruguay, Rafael Antonaccio 13' 2010, S 16mm Sebastian verliebt sich in seine Nachbarin, aber seine starken Hemmungen hindern ihn daran, sich ungezwungen mit ihr zu unterhalten. Die Liebe wird zu einer Besessenheit, die in eine unerwartete Richtung führt. Sebastian falls in love with his neighbor, but his strong inhibitions prevent him speaking to her normally. Er entwickelt neurotische Gedanken als er realisiert, dass sie ihm nie gesagt hat, dass sie ihn liebt. Aber für seinen Entschluss, die Beziehung zu beenden, fehlt ihm der Mut. A young couple goes on holiday together for the first time. The man starts having neurotic thoughts about his girlfriend because he realizes that she has never said she loved him. So he decides to break up, but doesn’t dare to do it.

Offizieller Wettbewerb 2 Oficial Competition 2 La Escuela de la Calle Argentina, Maximiliano Gonzalez 18' 2009, HDV Alle haben das Recht auf Bildung, aber in unserer Realität bleibt sie für viele Kinder nur ein Traum. “Die Schule der Strasse” erzählt die Geschichte der Isauro Arancibia Schule, die die einzige Schule für die mehr als 3000 obdachslosen Kinder in Buenos Aires ist. Tagein, tagaus müssen diese Kinder um ihr Leben kämpfen. Sie kämpfen um die Verwirklichung ihres Traums, alles hinter sich zu lassen und auf eine Schule zu gehen. Education is a right, but the reality we live in means that for many children it remains nothing more than a dream. “The school of the streets” tells the story of the school Isauro Arancibia, the only school for the more than 3000 kids living on the streets of Buenos Aires. Day after day, these kids fight to survive and make the dream a reality, leave their past behind and go to school.

Day Before Yesterday El Salvador / Canadá, Patricia Chica 11' 2009, HD Day before yesterday erzählt die Geschichte einer Frau, die unter vollständigem Gedächtnisverlust leidet. Sie wurde ohnmächtig mitten in Montreal von zwei Polizisten gefunden, die sie verhören. Ihre berührende Stimme führt uns durch die Geschichte: Sie beschreibt ihre unüberwindbare Einsamkeit bis ein Besuch von einem Mann, der sie zu kennen behauptet, der Geschichte eine unerwartete Wendung gibt. Day before yesterday recountsthe story of a woman suffering from total amnesia. Found unconscious in the middle of the downtown Montreal strip, she was brought in by police who proceed to interview her. We are led through the story by the woman’s haunting voice-over narration as she describes her utter loneliness, until a visit from someone who claims to know her sheds unexpected light on the woman and her past.

By Night Colombia / Alemania, Juan Díaz 12' 2009, HD By Night ist die Geschichte von Martin und Camille, die zusammen in einer Welt wohnen, wo der Tag nie zu Ende geht. Nach einer Serie unerwarteter Geschehnisse entdeckt Martin, dass Camille ein Leben in einer anderen Realität hat, in der ein Kind hoffnungslos auf sie wartet. Der Abschnitt begreift sich als eine kindgerechte Feier. Ein Clown wird den Meister der Zeremonie spielen und wird das Anschauen der Filme in ein didaktisches und interaktives Erlebnis verwandeln. So werden die Kinder sich nicht nur vergnügen, sondern auch über Orte, Menschen und Lebensformen in Lateinamerika lernen. Einer in ganz Lateinamerika fest verwurzelten Tradition folgend, werden wir das Ende des Festes mit dem berühmten Spiel „rompe la piñata“ - „Zerbrich’ den Topf“ feiern. Un pequeño vagabundo is the story of a child living off the kindness of others in a depressing back alley. One night, an older boy kicks him out of his shack, leaving him to sleep rough. Alone and with no home, he traipses the streets of the city, not knowing that on that very night his life would change forever.

Auch wenn wir glauben, dass wir einander sehr nah sind, wissen wir gar nicht, wie nah wir wirklich sind. A boy and a girl in their rooms, chat on the Internet, create a virtual image of themselves as they are or as they would like to be. Sometimes despite believing that we are so connected, we do not realize how close we are.

LT22 Radio La Colifata Argentina, España, Francia, Italia, 93’ 2007, S 16mm & Super 8 & DVCAM „La Colifata“ ist ein Radiosender, der von den Insassen des J.T. Borda Pflegeheims in Buenos Aires selbstständig organisiert wird. Die Sendung wird in den Gärten des Pflegeheims aufgenommen und in die ganze Welt ausgestrahlt. „La Colifata“ ist ein Sender, der die Grenze zwischen Wahnsinn und gesundem Verstand in Frage stellt; ein Sender, der die Grenze zwischen so genannten Geisteskranken und den geistig Gesunden abbaut. Er ermöglicht denjenigen ihre Meinung zu sagen, denen zuvor eine Stellungnahme untersagt wurde. Leute, die uns zeigen können auf eine andere Art und Weise zu denken. Wir begleiten die “Colifatos” auf ihrer Reise durch Europa, auf der sie die Ergebnisse ihrer Pionierarbeit kennen lernen. Diese Reise endet in Buenos Aires mit einem Benefiz-Konzert von Manu Chao zugunsten des Radio Colifatas vor tausenden von Zuschauern. LT22 Radio La Colifata is a radio station run entirely by the patients of the J.T. Borda Psychiatric Hospital in Buenos Aires. Recorded and broadcast from the hospital gardens, it is heard all over the world. It is a station that questions the limit between madness and reason, a station that breaks down the dividing wall between the “sane” and the “mad”. It gives power of speech to those who had been denied a voice for too long. “The mad” can reveal many things to us that we, the “sane”, are incapable of seeing. The protagonists, the “colifatos”, reveal the inner workings of this radio station to us, and we follow them on their journey through Europe as they view the results of their pioneer project. The journey finishes back in Buenos Aires in a football stadium, where Manu Chao puts on a concert for thousands in aid of Radio La Colifata.

Doppelte Weiblichkeit Die Mujeres Armadas / Bewaffnete Frauen-Serie bestreitet Stereotypen und ihre geographische Zuteilung. In dieser Serie beeindruckender großer Fotografien ist es die Künstlerin selbst, die Modell steht. Sie streicht das Selbst aber gleichzeitig aus, indem sie sich hinter ihren Figuren versteckt. Jede Figur repräsentiert einen Kontinent und die Gesamtheit der Bilder formiert eine kulturelle Mischung und eine ethnische Vielfältigkeit. Von der afrikanischen Frau, deren Lockenwickleraufmachung einen traditionellen ‘Boubou’ nachbildet, bis zu den zurückhaltenden Kleidern der asiatischen Geisha interpretiert Rustha Luna Pozzi-Escot alltägliche Gesten und Signale neu. Sie vervielfältigt den eigentlichen Zweck von kosmetischen Requisiten und anderen Attributen der Weiblichkeit. Diese Bilder reizen das Auge mit exzentrischer Aufmachung, erheben gleichzeitig Waffen gegen den Zuschauer und weisen schamlose voyeuristische Blicke ab. Double Femininity In the impressive Mujeres Armadas/Armed women series, the artist herself both acts as model, and hides behind her characters to destroy the self. Every figure represents a continent and the entire collection celebrates a cultural melting-pot and ethnic diversity. From the African woman, whose curlers reflect a traditional Boubou, to the restrained finery of the Asian geisha, Rustha Luna Pozzi-Escot reinterprets gestures and signals, subverting the original purpose of cosmetics and other objects associated with femininity. These images draw the observer’s gaze with excentric openness, whilst raising arms against the viewer and repelling any gaze that seems shamelessly voyeuristic. For Lakino International’s Fiesta Latina we will dance to the beats of DJ Nilo, a pioneer of the Hip-Hop movement in Cuba. He is now mixing pure Cuban tones, Hip-Hop, Reggae and Electronic, to create the new genre of “Alter-Latin” music. His first album contains everything from a tribute to Company Segundo through to a collaboration with the classic Cuban band “Viejo Trova Santiaguera”. He has already played at all the biggest festivals in Spain and played as well as acting in the critically acclaimed film “Machin. Toda una vida”.

Programm JUGEND IN AKTION Training und Vernetzung Sinfonias Urbanas Zusammenfassung des Projekts “Sinfonias Urbanas” ist ein internationaler Trainingskurs über den Gebrauch von audiovisuellen Medien als Werkzeuge für den interkulturellen Dialog. Es fördert Kenntnisse und kreative Fähigkeiten von jungen Projektleitern, die audiovisuelle Technologien mit Jugendlichen verwenden wollen. Das Training ist auf drei Bereiche fokussiert: das Recherchieren von sozial relevanten Themen mit der Kamera, das Entwickeln einer eigenen Bildsprache und die praktisch-technische Umsetzung in einem Kurzfilm. Das Projekt wurde von einer internationalen Gruppe mit dem Ziel entwickelt, den interkulturellen Dialog und die Prozesse des Filmemachens theoretisch und praktisch zu verbinden. 25 junge Filmautoren aus Europa werden eingeladen, die Stadt Berlin in Hinblick auf ein spezifisches Thema zu erkunden. Ihre unterschiedlichen Sichtweisen und Befunde filmisch festzuhalten und in die Gruppendiskussion einzubringen. Die Teilnehmer werden darüber hinaus ihre Produkte im Rahmen eines professionellen Kurzfilmfestivals der Öffentlichkeit zeigen und diskutieren können. in Kooperation mit: Asociación Visible, Piemonte Movie, Asociación Resonancias & Lakino Berlin Die Aktivität beginnt am: Jan 2011
