t’s been said that if you need a job well done, ask the busiest person you know to do it. And although that may not be a consciously constructed mantra for North Carolina native Kent Pike, it certainly is applicable! Whether volunteering, advising clients, supporting his daughters, Abby and Taylor, in their golf and cross country pursuits, or spending some quality time boating on the lake with his wife, Joanna, Kent is a man on the move. There is always something more to accomplish but somehow Kent manages to make it all work together seamlessly. “Being active in the community is important to me and to my family,” Kent explains. “Giving back is something that we do together as a family, on a monthly basis.” As the immediate past president of Huntersville Happy Hour Rotary Club, Kent has been involved in numerous community outreach programs and events, from a “feed the kids” campaign to clothing drives to joining with others for

a Catawba River clean up. “I enjoy helping others,” Kent relays. “I love being even a small part in other people’s lives, and hopefully that experience will make a difference in their lives.” That same attitude of serving others has been a key element in the success of his Mooresville-based company, HealthMarkets, which offers innovative insurance solutions for individuals as well as businesses. “Knowing I have helped someone on one of their toughest days is extremely rewarding,” Kent offers. When not volunteering, Kent and his family enjoy an active lifestyle, traveling and experiencing new places and adventures. “We do not stay home much,” Kent says. “We are always doing something! We love to travel, and we have a lot of making up to do this I year. So far this year we have been to St. Lucia and experienced being stranded due to an actual volcanic eruption on the neighboring island. And right now as you are reading this, I have probably just returned from Croatia. The world is a fascinating place! Culture and heritage are important to our family, and learning from others around the world brings us all a little closer together.” With so many responsibilities and activities on his calendar, how does Kent manage to maintain worklife balance? Kent does not hesitate to explain that a positive attitude plus a commitment to community and family means both success and life balance. “I run a small business,” Kent elaborates, “and one of the best compliments I received was when a peer introduced me to others with: ‘No one does a better job of work-life balance than Kent Pike.’ I have achieved a lot in life, but that would not be possible without a supportive family … I count my blessings daily.” w
