hat happens when two native New Yorker cousins go into business together in Lake Norman? Success … family style. Jason and Andrew Dubrey, co-owners of Sterilizer Autoclave Solutions, are friends, partners, and a couple of the area’s biggest fans. “I was working virtually for a large corporation several years ago,” Jason shares, “and my wife and I decided to rent out our New York home and try living near Lake Norman. We agreed to try it for a year, and we loved it so much that we never went back!” Jason worked in the corporate world for many years, but ultimately he burned out—which led him down a very different path. “I had reached for the ceiling of where I wanted to be,” he continues, “so I rediscovered my entrepreneurial spirit. Shortly after that realization, Andrew asked if I wanted to go into business together. It was a resounding YES.” The cousins quickly realized they had a passion for hard work, connecting with people, and, well, all things LAKE. “I love this area for the most obvious reasons,” admits Andrew. “The lake, boating season, friends, family, and the traffic! I just LOVE the traffic,” he adds jovially and with an obvious lilt of sarcasm.
WAs the co-owners of a thriving autoclave and infection control company, these two recognize the value of a hard day’s work, but they also savor time spent with loved ones. “My main passion is providing a great life for my family,” says Jason. “I love to watch the joy of my wife and children as we experience new things and places together. There is no greater gift in life than making memories.” He says the ability to provide well for them is what motivates him each and every day. Also topping his list of stuff that keeps him going? Embracing emotional intelligence -- something he says is key for success. “You see, being intelligent can only take you so far, but choosing the right people to have on your team and learning to rely on their abilities and strengths is absolutely key,” he says, adding, “If I want to go fast, I will go alone. However, I want to go far, so I must go together with my team.” This kind of workplace kinship is important to Andrew, too. He enjoys the pace of Sterilizer Autoclave Solutions, and he’s so proud to have embraced this entrepreneurial journey. “I am a mover and a shaker and making things happen is my passion,” he says. “Not having a boss for all these years has changed me in remarkable ways. I am way more motivated knowing it’s up to me to make it happen,” he concludes with a smile. w
