ear readers, You may be aware that I have not been writing the “From the Helm” column for some time now. Unfortunately, I was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. I am strong and feeling well, so am counting my blessings every day. The crew at Lakeland Boating keeps working hard to bring you a great magazine each month, while I am away from the helm. I am proud and thankful to all of them for keeping us on course. I also want to personally thank each of you for subscribing. My advice to all of you would be to not put off anything you really want to do in life. Work at sneaking in some things on your bucket list before you retire. None of us can foresee the future. I treasure all the memories Linda and I have of cruising and the wonderful people we met along the way. I hope to be back on the water again soon! Happy Holidays and best wishes for a healthy and fantastic 2020. Get out there and enjoy some adventures!
There’s no better way to spend a weekend than making Christmas cookies with my grandchildren. Cookies together has been our tradition since my now college girls were old enough to crack an egg. HHH

Stored on our lakefront home are three pontoon boats we use to launch fireworks on July 4. In December, we decorate them with controllable LED lights and synchronize them to favorite holiday tunes. HHH

I love our outdoor holiday traditions with our three kids: Finding a tree, touring a light show along the beach of Lake Superior, hiking in the woods and cross-country skiing (if we’re lucky and have snow!).
