Educational Technology ED 5705 W Effective Use of Technology for Learning Course Modality: Online (Asynchronous) Instructor: Jenn Miller, M.Ed. Dates: January 16, 2024 - May 10, 2024 Registration Closes: April 19, 2024 Number of Credit Hours: 3 Cost: $600 This course will help learners better understand the varied purposes of technology usage in the classroom and how to use technology for instructional purposes effectively, student communication of learning, and assessments. Learners will focus on how to select the appropriate technology for certain tasks by applying the skills and concepts of the course to a unit plan design that utilizes a variety of technological applications. Learners will design instruction, student assignments, and assessments that help students think critically about how to use technology to enhance the learning experience. Learners will explore different models for incorporating technology (TPACK, SAMR, T-3) while developing their own beliefs about the purpose of technology in learning.

ED 5706 W Google Level 1 Bootcamp: Beginners Course Modality: Online (Asynchronous) Instructor: Dr. Greg Rothwell Dates: January 16, 2024 - May 10, 2024 Registration Closes: April 19, 2024 Number of Credit Hours: 1 Cost: $200 In this course, we will learn and practice skills using Google Applications for Education to prepare for taking the Google Certified Educator Level 1 test. Study guides and example problems will be supplied, and the course will culminate with taking the test. This class is geared towards students with a working knowledge of Google Applications for Education. Students will prepare for the Google Educator Level 1 exam, which costs $10 (payable via credit or debit card) to register for the exam. You must have a Google account either personal or through your district.

Would you like to learn more about Google apps and tools? Level 2 is a great way to learn how to use Google more in depth as an educator. In this course, we will learn and practice skills using Google Applications for Education to prepare for taking the Google Certified Educator Level 2 test. Study guides and example problems will be supplied, and the course will culminate with taking the test. This class is geared towards students who have passed LEVEL 1 GOOGLE CERTIFICATION. Educational Technology ED 5708 W Digital Literacy: Preparing Students with 21st Century Skills Course Modality: Online (Asynchronous) Instructor: Jenn Miller, M.Ed. Dates: January 16, 2024 - May 10, 2024 Registration Closes: April 19, 2024 Number of Credit Hours: 1 Cost: $200 Despite the fact that students are digital natives and have only grown up in a time of technology, they often are not digitally literate. Digitally literate students have the digital citizenship skills to manage their digital lives and footprints. In this course you will learn how to teach students how to find credible sources online, deal with cyberbullying and drama, maintain their digital footprint and online identity, understand privacy and security, and learn how to balance media usage. In addition, a focus on how to prepare students with 21st century skills of collaboration, communication, and problem solving will be addressed. Participants will create a culminating project that incorporates digital literacy and citizenship skills within the classroom in a meaningful way. Educators, however, can be overwhelmed on how to utilize technology for learning. In this course learners will understand the philosophical elements of technology for learning, while learning about tools that can be used in the classroom. Participants will learn about a variety of tech tools and create a final project to implement a tool into a lesson plan. ED 6005 W Artificial Intelligence in the Classroom: Friend or Foe? January 27: 9-3 Registration Closes: January 20, 2024 Number of Credit Hours: 1 Cost: $200 With the explosion of artificial intelligence software in the last several months, teachers face a new concern regarding academic integrity. Through blended learning, this course will help teachers develop new academic integrity policies–while keeping it aligned with their district’s policies, investigate some of the more popular generative AI platforms and their classroom implications, and explore the ways in which AI can be helpful to teachers. In order to achieve the course goals, we will also dive into the difference between cheating and using resources appropriately in order to complete classroom assignments. By the end of the course, teachers will have considered the ramifications of AI for both them and their students and have a firmer grasp on this evolving technology.

Students need this skill to help grow as learners and leaders. This course will take you through creating a data binder and the step by step process on how to complete student-led conferences. What better way to learn how a student feels they are doing than by asking them? Students will reflect on their learning and lead their parent-teacher conferences, while you act as the facilitator. This course takes you through the preparation and reflection process that takes place prior to the conferences to ensure students are prepared. Grade Levels: Elementary. The course will provide participants with the knowledge and skills needed to understand and support a healthier lifestyle that includes both professional responsibilities and personal choices. Contents that will be covered include: burnout and turnover, the link between wellness and performance, and effects of stress on the heart, brain, weight, and relationships. Participants will learn what the data says about the current teaching force in America in regards to stress, red flags and warning signs, and resources and strategies to experience a healthier state of existence in the workplace. The course will provide educational professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to support individual and/or school wide wellness initiatives and best practices for preventing deteriorating health conditions. The course will focus on creating environments that are inclusive and positive within the context of competitive activities. Much of the focus has been on children learning to read, but in this course we will focus on how we can use what we know through the Science of Reading (SOR) to understand the role decoding and phonics may play in reading gaps among children fourth grade and older. In this course, teachers of students 4-12 will get an overview of what science tells us about decoding, explore how phonics plays an inextricable role in successful reading, and examine strategies and interventions that can be used to support the older student in developmentally appropriate ways.

ED 5790 W Science of Reading: Deep Dive Course Modality: Online (Asynchronous) Instructor: Dr. Kelly Moran Dates: January 16, 2024 - May 10, 2024 Registration Closes: April 19, 2024 Number of Credit Hours: 3 Cost: $600 Countless American students struggle to read. All educators oversee content area standards that are related to literacy. We can all benefit from learning what cognitive scientists have discovered about the reading brain. This hybrid course explores the wide spreading interest in the science of reading (SOR) instruction. Through a variety of asynchronous type activities and independent exploration of the All Ohio Literacy Modules participants will learn how the brain becomes rewired to read and what cognitive scientists recommend for instructional literacy practice as well as the elements of structured literacy and what The National Reading Panel found to be effective and evidence based practices for instruction. The course content will highlight the importance of explicit phonics instruction, developing content knowledge, and exposing readers to grade level text play in developing strong and successful readers. The course will provide participants with the knowledge and skills needed to understand and support students struggling with dyslexia. Contents that will be covered include: current data on Dyslexia, uncover myths, outline steps on assessing, and review practices for classroom instruction. Participants will learn the definition of dyslexia, red flags, and the findings of current brain research. The course will provide educational professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to support students who struggle with Dyslexia using current research and data to outline an approach and best practices for instruction and is consistent with Ohio’s Dyslexia Support Laws and Dyslexia Guidebook.
