LAKE COUNTY FAIR & FARM BUREAU Lake County’s fair this last Labor Day weekend went outstanding, with smiles and fun all around. The Farm Bureau started off the week partnering with the local 4-H office to host over 230 local elementary students and lead them through the livestock pavilion. 4-H, FFA, and Farm Bureau members volunteered to lead elementary classes throughout the barns, while junior livestock showmen waited near their market animals to teach them about what it is like to have an animal for the Lake County Fair. When the students returned down the hill, they were greeted by CalFire and Smokey the Bear to teach them fire safety. Teachers went home with fun interactive materials to include agriculture in their everyday lessons, and students left with smiles on their faces!

Left to Right: Diane Henderson (LCFB Board Member), Blair Brookes (LCFB Summer Intern), and Allison Tucker (LCFB Executive Director) lead excited classrooms around the livestock barns at the Lake County Fair.

The Farm Bureau’s featured 4-H member this issue is Sheldon Reese of Upper Lake 4-H! Sheldon is in the 8th grade, and raised two hogs for this year’s fair. He has raised hogs doe the past two years, and it clear to see that he loves what he does by all the hard work he puts into his market animals. Sheldon is actively involved in his 4-H Club through the market hog project group and several fundraisers throughout the year. He attended 4-H Camp this year as a junior leader, and hopes to serve as counselor this next year. Great job Sheldon, we look forward to seeing all the great work you do in the future!
