SHOREWOOD HILLS POOL BUILDING
We were tasked with this project to look at the outdated Shorewood Hills Community Pool Building and surrounding site in Madison, Wi. We had the privilage to come up with a solution to make the surrounding site work more efficiently and work the best it can for the people that utilize this wonderful asset to the community of Shorewood Hills. We were also tasked with looking at the pool building itself which is currently outdated and doesn’t work well, and coming up with a solution to make it work better for the community.

For the overall design of the Shorewood Hills Community Center and Pool Building, I wanted it to feel welcoming and be a place that people want to be. For the ceiling, I had the idea to create individual strips of wood beams with spaces in between them. For the lighting, I wanted it to look kind of like a stary night. That is why I chose not to put the lights in a uniform configuration. For this project, I took some inspiration from the newly redesigned Architectural Technology department at Madison College. The seating area, with glass looking into the building’s main office is similar to that of a space in the department. I also had the idea to incorporate an area that looks up to the second floor from the first floor. That is the two triangular shapes visible in the ceiling.

When I am not studying or practicing architecture, there are a few things that I enjoy doing. I like to play minecraft which allows me to be creative, which I think is really important. Now and again, I also like to paint. I also like to create model buildings now and again.
