OGEMA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PROJECT

As this was the Elementary School that I attended when I was a kid. This project was one that I thoroughly enjoyed working on. A few years ago the local school district passed a referendum that brought all of the students to the district’s main campus. As a result, they sold the Ogema Elementary School building to new owners. I worked with them to use what I learned throughout my time at Madison College to help bring their vision for this building to life.

Building, noted that they wanted to include a wedding venue in the former gymnasium of the school, a coffee shop, called “The Principle’s Office”, in the former computer lab, and possibly a kyak rental and bike rental shop in the former second grade class room and 4k classroom. They weren’t exactly sure what to do with the rest of the classrooms, however I think it would be a good idea to include multipurpose rooms for the community to come in and utilize at their discression.

I found one aspect of this project to be a nice challenge. That was tieing in the orignial 1957 building with the later addition put on in 1970’s. To solve the challenge of having these two sections of the building work well together, I worked with the white color the clients wanted for the brick, and added accents of the wood color you see as well as the black for the windows. I made the exterior of the later addition the wood color you see as an accent on the rest of the building. I also wanted this part of the building to be a statement piece, so I added the large windows you see to add more character to what was a pretty lack luster addition.
