Director’s Note Finally! How exciting is it to be back performing in the theatre? These past few weeks, our students have expressed a lot of anxiety about performing live in front of an audience. It is easy to see the emotional impact Covid has had on our kids during the rehearsal process. They have expressed the need and desire to create together, to laugh together, to feel how important every kid is to their group and be a part of something big. Working together, while creating and developing the script and choreography and costumes, we also began to acknowledge and face some of our fears: the fear of making a mistake, of not being good enough, of standing in front of a huge audience. They have worked so hard these past months. And they have really learned to trust the theatrical process. And, they trusted me to guide them through the rehearsals. I am so proud of each and every child! To the parents of the first grade I would like to say that, for many of the students, it is the first time on the stage! I wish you could have all been a part of the rehearsal process to watch them grow, learn their positions, the dances, the script and the songs. It was so complicated for them in the beginning, they tried so hard and their legs got tired, but when they finally experienced the joy of getting it right, then, they thrived! And there is no stopping this class! From the element of water, we have learned that focus helps create clarity and that together they can be very powerful! The children of the second grade were our colorful tornado! The creativity in this class is simply fantastic! Together we have learned about controlling our creativity using the colorful ribbons to demonstrate our interpretation of the temperamental element of air. The children in the third grade choose such a complicated song! And, typical of this class, they mastered it! After hours and hours of playing, creating, tolerating other’s mistakes (including teacher Marci’s!), failing and trying again, making it more difficult (because this class thrives on being challenged), they finally agreed on the final product! Mother Nature should be very proud of them. Our Fourth grade is an empathic fire. This describes this class’s approach to drama. So energetic and supportive of one another! This group knows how to work together and they get so fired up during our rehearsals! And they never let their flame burn out. Lastly, to the parents of the fifth grade, I think that everyone has learned that we have to unite and balance all of the elements within us to help produce balance in the world. Class 5 has created such a fun yet powerful musical and I think that they are all ready to “make that change.” After many laughs, many tears and hours of hard work and passion, they are ready to share this experience with you LIVE. And trust me, they are trembling with excitement. Thank you to our flag families for letting me share this passion with your children. A special thank you to my family and the teachers and staff for your help and support and to Chiara for translating the script! To Teacher Martina, for always knowing exactly how to help. She has a heart of gold! A special shout out to Teacher Debra for her amazing artistic collaboration on the costumes and props. And to my dear mother, for making the trip from America to come see our show! And a truly “from the heart” thank you to our direttrice, Paola, for embracing me and my crazy musical theatre world in our school and for understanding how essential the arts are in the world today. Note di regia Finalmente! Com’è emozionante essere tornati a teatro! In queste ultime settimane i nostri bambini hanno espresso la loro ansia riguardo al ritorno a teatro e alla loro performance live di fronte a un pubblico. È stato così evidente vedere l’impatto emotivo che il covid ha portato durante le prove dello spettacolo. I bambini hanno espresso la volontà e il desiderio di creare insieme, di ridere insieme, di fare in modo che ogni membro del gruppo classe si sentisse parte di un grande progetto. Lavorando insieme, creando insieme il copione, le coreografie ed i costumi, abbiamo iniziato a riconoscere alcune delle nostre paure: la paura di sbagliare, di non valere abbastanza, di stare davanti a un grande pubblico. Hanno lavorato così duramente in questi mesi, hanno imparato a fidarsi veramente del processo teatrale e ad affidarsi a me come guida durante le prove. Sono così fiera di ogni bambino! Ai genitori di classe prima mi piacerebbe dire che per tanti bambini questa è la prima volta sul palco! Vorrei avervi potuti coinvolgere nel processo delle prove. Li ho visti crescere, imparare le loro posizioni nello spettacolo, il copione, le coreografie e le canzoni. All’inizio per loro è stato molto difficile, si sono impegnati moltissimo e, dopo l’esperienza e la gioia di riuscire a seguire le coreografie, sono riusciti anche ad eseguire le canzoni in maniera corretta! Questa classe è inarrestabile! Dall’elemento dell’acqua abbiamo imparato che la concentrazione aiuta a creare chiarezza e insieme possiamo essere molto potenti! I bambini di classe seconda sono stati il nostro tornado colorato! La creatività in questa classe è semplicemente fantastica! Insieme abbiamo imparato a controllare i nastri colorati per mostrare la nostra interpretazione dell’elemento dell’aria. I bambini di classe terza hanno scelto una canzone così complicata! E, tipico di questa classe, sono riusciti ad eseguirla in maniera strabiliante! Dopo ore e ore di gioco di creazione e tolleranza degli errori di ognuno (inclusa la maestra Marci), fallimenti e tentativi continui (perché questa classe ama le sfide), finalmente si sono messi d’accordo sul prodotto finale! Madre Natura sarà molto fiera di loro. La classe quarta è un fuoco empatico. Ciò descrive benissimo l’approcio di questo gruppo nei confronti di Drama. Sono stati così energici e solidali tra di loro! Questo gruppo sa come lavorare bene insieme e si emoziona così tanto durante le prove! Questi bambini non lasciano mai che la loro fiamma si spenga! Ogni bambino di classe quinta ha imparato che dobbiamo unirci e bilanciare gli elmenti dentro di noi per ottentere equilibrio nel mondo esterno. Questa classe ha creato un musical divertente, ma allo stesso tempo potente e penso che tutti siano pronti per compiere il cambiamento che li aspetta! Dopo tante risate, tante lacrime, ore di duro lavoro e passione sono pronti a condividere con voi la loro esperienza dal vivo e, fidatevi di me, stanno tremando dall’entusiamo. Grazie a tutte le famiglie della Flag per avermi permesso di condividere la mia passione con i vostri figli. Un ringraziamento speciale va a tutte le maestre e allo staff della scuola per il loro aiuto e supporto. Grazie a Chiara che ha tradotto il nostro copione per voi! Alla maestra Martina perché sa sempre esattamente come aiutare. Ha un cuore d’oro! Grazie alla maestra Debra per il suo fantastico contributo artistico nei costumi e negli oggetti di scena. Grazie alla mia cara mamma che ha affrotato un lungo viaggio dgli USA per venire a vedere il nostro spettacolo. Dal profondo del mio cuore grazie alla nostra direttrice, Paola, per avere accolto me e le mie stravaganti idee teatrali nella scuola. Grazie per aver compreso l’importanza delle arti nel nostro mondo. Ringraziamenti Torniamo in questo magnifico Teatro dopo anni pieni di incertezza e cambiamenti che ci hanno portati a modificare i nostri punti di vista, il nostro concetto di tempo e di gestione dello spazio, il nostro modo di comunicare e di stare insieme. Il titolo del nostro spettacolo è proprio dedicato al cambiamento, necessario per tutelare e salvare il nostro pianeta, necessario per tutelare e salvare le nostre vite. In questi anni difficili Marci ha saputo dare continuità e nuovo valore alla disciplina di Drama, della quale si occupa da sempre in Flag con eccezionale competenza e incredibile entusiasmo. Questa disciplina, per noi fondamentale, produce effetti estremamente positivi su tutte le altre, rendendo i bambini capaci di affrontare gli impegni scolastici e poi la vita con determinazione, rigore, capacità di ascoltare e comunicare, rinforzando le fragilità e trasmettendo una competitività sana, capace di valorizzare ed apprezzare le abilità e le competenze di ciascuno. Marci ha sempre dato un contributo prezioso che continua a caratterizzare la nostra scuola, offrendo un esempio di grande umiltà, grinta, ottimismo, decisione e amore per tutte le persone che avvicina, bambini e adulti. Lo staff della Flag è costituito da unicità preziose, elementi speciali che insieme formano una grande orchestra. Sono grata a ciascun elemento di questa orchestra che ogni giorno contribuisce a creare un ambiente dove è piacevole trascorrere le giornate, anche quando sono piene di impegni e di situazioni da gestire. Un nostro ex alunno ci ha definiti “la scuola del sorriso”. Mi auguro che ogni bambino possa ricordare con gioia il tempo trascorso insieme. Non so cosa ci riserverà il futuro, ma so che la Flag continuerà ad essere un punto di riferimento per me e per tutti coloro che vorranno continuare a seguire questa avventura, iniziata 21 anni fa, che ancora arricchisce il mio cuore e la mia vita. La Flag è famiglia: genitori, bambini e collaboratori ne fanno parte. The pollutioneroid is like a giant meteor or asteroid, but it is made up entirely of pollution. La nube dell’inquinamento è come un gigante meteorite o asteroide, ed è completamente fatto di inquinamento.
