The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) held its annual blood donation competition and this year it was the grade 4 TE class at Laerskool Tzaneen Primary who took first place. The 27 brave young donors did their part to help with the blood service’s current shortfall and in exchange were rewarded with 15 brand new chess sets. The young chess masters wasted no time in setting up the pieces and getting the blood flow back to their craniums. “Thank you miss Dottie Pinn,” they said in unison. In addition they expressed their gratitude to the parents and fellow students who all chipped in and sat down for a donation on the day. “These chess sets mean a lot to the youngsters and we will be putting them to good use in the days to come. Donating blood is an important part of helping our community and that, above all else, is what defines a true Larrie,” said Ms Ula Schoeman of Laerskool Tzaneen Primary. — Joe Dreyer
