Tzaneen Basaar Vandag en more
Die gewilde NG Kerk Wolkberg se jaarlikse bazaar word vandag en more gehou. Die basaar open amptelik vandag om 09:00. Ontbyt kan van net na die opening tot 11:00 geniet word. Ander hoogtepunte is: Sonja en Tjokker tree om 14:00 op en om 17:30 tree die immergewilde trompoppies van die SAVF Kleuterskool op. Die aandvermaak begin om 18:30. More is daar ‘n uitstalling van klassieke motors. ‘n Lekker behoorlike Suid-Afrikaanse ontbyt kan weer van 09:00 tot 11:00 genuttig word. Die trompoppies tree weer om 10:00 op en om hulle in aksie te sien, is altyd ‘n moet. Na die trompoppies sal daar ‘n vertoning van hommeltuie wees (drones). Hierdie naweek hou die NGK se Wolkberg-gemeente weer hul jaarlikse tweedaagse basaar. ‘n Yslike verskeidenheid tuisgebak sal sools altyd die kwyl laat drup. Vars vleis en biltong is jaarliks ‘n groot aantrekkingskrag by dié fees van ‘n basaar, maar daar sal soos gebruiklik handwerk, groente en vrugte, plante, ‘n wit olifant-afdeling met meubels, linne, gordyne tot gebruikte klere, elektroniese toerusting en allerlei snuisterye wees. Heerlike basaarkos sal volop wees: pannekoek, vetkoek, yankee’s, poeding, worsrolle, kerrie en rys en die immergewilde Kalaharisosaties. Teetuin vir kuier en ontbyt Vrydag en Saterdag kan ma weer ‘n ruskansie uit die kombuis bied. Hope Vermaak vir die kleinspan met onder andere Sonja en Tjokker wat kom kuier 14:00. Tzaneen Kleuterskool se trompoppies kuier Saterdagoggend ook saam en daar is ‘n vertoning met hommeltuie (drones). Vrydagaand is kuieraand met plaaslike talent om ‘n kampvuur. Klassieke motors Saterdagoggend. Blommeskou in die kerkgebou. Daar is weer ‘n bussie om Vrydag die senior lidmate van Macadamia en Pionierswoonstelle na die basaar te vervoer. The Tzaneen Eco Club invites you to attend an introduction to the wonderful world of BioMAPping and the Virtual Museum. During an evening presentation on Friday 27 May, the delightful and dynamic Megan Loftie- Eaton, from the Animal Demography Unit at the University of Cape Town, will talk about the power of citizen science and how people can make their photos count for conservation. On 28 May time will be spent with her in the lovely Lekgalameetse Nature Reserve (recognised as one of SA’s great biodiversity hotspots) and have fun putting it into practice. Megan was born in Polokwane and grew up in Stellenbosch. She moved with her family to Canada, where she completed a BSc in Environmental and Conservation Sciences. They moved back to South Africa in 2011 and Megan started her MSc in Zoology at the University of Cape Town. Her research was on the geographic range dynamics of SA’s bird species. In 2014 she began her PhD, looking at the impacts of bush encroachment on bird distribution and biodiversity in Limpopo and Mpumalanga. She is the project coordinator of the Atlas of African Lepidoptera (LepiMAP), a project aimed at determining the distribution and conservation priorities of butterflies and moths on the African continent. She is also a BirdMAP Assistant; helping with the ADU’s bird atlas project in other African countries including Zimbabwe, Namibia, Zambia, Rwanda, Kenya and Nigeria. be served. On 28 May interested parties will meet at the Lekgalameetse main gate at 06:30. From there they will proceed into the reserve to explore the varied habitats, including Acacia woodland, Mistbelt forest and Afromontane grassland, each supporting a myriad of life forms. These diverse habitats are home to over 350 different bird species, 1 200 plant species and 100 butterfly species, some of which are extremely rare. In this most exquisitely designed book rich with photographs, illustrations and stories the authors explore the Limpopo River’s history, its ancient past, wildlife, landscapes, early kingdoms and their people, warfare, trade, slaves, 19th century hunting, travel and adventures and the conservation efforts of four national parks. Local Haenertsburg resident Michael Gardner, has had a career in the tourism industry spanning some 49 years, during which time he has explored many wild places in Zimbabwe, Venda and the Limpopo Province. Dr Peter Norton has practiced as a widely respected ecologist deeply rooted in the South African bush. He worked as a scientist and conservationist for 20 years before becoming a specialist consultant who co-ordinated the establishment of Mapungubwe as a World Heritage Site. Clive Walker is a well known author and for his work in rhino conservation. He founded the Endangered Wildlife Trust and served on the IUCN African Rhino Specialist Group. He has published several wildlife and conservation books and is a wonderfully talented illustrator of nature subjects.
