METAL HORDE ZINE BRINGS YOU SWR XII – BARROSELAS METALFEST SPECIAL REPORT
So one more time I present you guys with a little special report on the oldest Metalfest done in Portugal, the SWR Barroselas Metalfest, already in its twelfth edition and giving no proof of ending here, so without further more words here are the forty two bands that will be in SWR XII, beside bio and photo of the band I did a couple of questions equal to all bands, they were: 1- Is this your first gig in Portugal? 2- What are your expectations about Barroselas Metal Fest? Do you expect a crazy crowd or what? And do you know anything about this fest? 3- What can the Portuguese metal heads expect from you in stage? Send greetings to all metal fans in Portugal in your own way.. Of course for Portuguese bands the questions were a little different: 1- Is this your first appearance in SWR? 2- What are you expectations regarding your performance in the Metalfest? 3- What’s your opinion regarding the oldest still active Metalfest in Portugal. band been hoping to get back there and its finally happened, the festival should be brutal man, the Portuguese metal heads are mad and it will be a blast. A3- You can expect a frenzy of blasting satanic violence from Akercocke at the SWR, followed by a frenzy of blasting alcohol consumption. See you in the pit!!!!!
SPEARHEAD comes from the UK with their Black/ Death Metal to unleash upon us. They were formed in 2003 releasing a couple of full lengths until now, ‘Deathless Steel Command’ in 2005 and two years later BLACKLODGE comes from France and plays a ‘Decrowning The Irenarch’. The line-up consists of unique kind of Black Metal with much Industrial Barghest (Bx/Vk), Nephilim (Gt), Invictus (Gt) and influences. Formed in 1998, they released one year Vortigem (Dr)… later their first demo, ‘InnerCells’, being followed by an Ep in the same year, ‘Prince Of Dark Cellars’ and a couple of full lengths, ‘Login:Satan’ in 2003 and ‘Solarkult’ in 2006. The band had a couple line-up changes in the meantime being now formed by, Jessy (Bx), Narcotic (Gt) and Saint Vincent (Vk/Gt/Dr)…
S1- Yes, it is. We couldn't make it to Portugal on the last tour... S2- I think it will be a really good festival. The line-up is great. And I think the Portuguese crowd will be good too. What I know is what I have seen from previous years and it seems to be getting better each year as a festival. S3- What they can expect? They should listen to the B1- Yes, first time we will play there. 'Decrowning...' album, then expect something even B2- We had very positive feedback from friends who more violent and hard-hitting...Hellish greetings to visited this fest, so we are impatient to play there. Portuguese metal diehards - see you at SWR Fest! B3- People will see the new face of Blacklodge that will come aside with the forthcoming release. We are also working on a video support to challenge a complete black Indus magic on stage. Hail world technological THE HAUNTED are the headliners for Friday and do downfall and see you there in SWR. I need to say more? Formed in Gothenburg in 1996, after the demise of At The Gates, they soon released a demo in 1997 being that followed by six full lengths AKERCOCKE is one of those bands that need few until now, ‘The Haunted’ in 1998, ‘Made Me Do It’ in words for introduction. Formed in the UK in 1997 after 2000, ‘One Kill Wonder’ in 2003, ‘rEVOLVEr’ in 2004, the split of Salem Orchid, they released their first demo ‘The Dead Eye’ in 2006 and in the past year, ‘Versus’. in 1998 as a promo, followed by their debut, ‘Rape Of With some ins and outs, the band that plays an intense The Bastard Nazarene’ one year after a brutal release Thrash/Death Metal nowadays is formed by, Peter of Black/Death Metal, then the band entered in a Dolving (Vk), Patrik Jensen (Gt), Anders Björler (Gt), successful two year gap between each full length, Jonas Björler (Bx) and Per Jensen (Dr). releasing ‘The Goat Of Mendes’ in 2001, ‘Choronzon’ in 2003, ‘Words That Go Unspoken, Deeds That Go Undone’ in 2005 and finally until now, ‘Antichrist’ in 2007. The band suffered some line-up changes throughout the years being now, David Gray (Dr), Jason Mendonça (Vk/Gt), Matty Wilcock (Gt), Pete Benjamin (Bx) and Martin Bonsoir (Kb).
TH1- No, we've played several shows at tiny clubs in Portugal before. We really love it, great people, good weed, intelligent conversation and REALLY sexy women… TH2- We never have expectations anymore that way we always come prepared for anything. In some ways we A1- This is Akercockes 3rd visit to Portugal, were are more of a combat team than a band that way. looking forward to it, it’s a great place. TH3- As I said, we never have expectations. However, A2- Akercocke have played SWR a few years ago, the the more intense the audience, the more intense show.
But the basic rule for us is ALWAYS: Stand firm, and rock the fuck out of everyone. We are, I'm proud to say, one of the most intense metal bands in the world and we intend to keep it that way. Why? Because we love metal and hardcore:) About the festival? I really have no clue. I live in a house in the woods and I don't care about what goes on in a world that doesn't hold love and respect as values of greater importance than money or power. As a band we have the basic attitude that things are what we make them, if we try to act with respect and share a positive vibe, we've done the first part right and whatever happens after that is stuff outside of our control... A simple promise; We will rock like there is no tomorrow, and we invite you to participate. Life is short, let's live it in a way that we all deserve instead of wasting away in nothingness! Formed in 2001, Australia’s GREY DATURAS is a very hard to define band. Going through Drone to Noise, they debut with the self titled album in 2002, followed by ‘Dead In The Woods’ in 2004 and ‘Return To Disruption’ in 2008, alongside a bunch of splits, Ep´s and live recordings. Being a trio the band consists of Robert MacManus (Gt), Bonnie Mercer (Gt) and Robert Mayson (Dr).
GD1- Our first gig in Portugal was at Braga in 2007, we played Barroselas Metal Festival. We were on tour in Portugal and Spain with our friends Monarch from France and they booked us this show. Our first Portugal show on this tour is again at Barroselas Metal Festival, our second is in Lisbon on Saturday 2nd at a venue called ZDB. GD2- I'm not expecting too many people to go wild when we play, aside from not many people knowing who we are in Portugal, we're a pretty slow down tempo band, we drone out a lot and doom it right down to a primitive slow pace, the last time we played Barroselas most of the people watching us were lying on the floor feeling the vibrations, thats not usual for us as we seem to affect people physically as opposed to musically. The heavy low end drone really hits people sonically. GD3- Expect the slowest most droned out psychedelic shit ever, we used to be a super harsh noise band back in the day, after years of touring and recording we've really hit our stride and started jamming a lot more, it's now this unspoken vibe of slow and heavy psychic drone jams. I know this sounds all hippy and shit, but hey, Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath were hippy at one stage, look how awesome they were. On a closing note, I can't wait to get down to Portugal and see our fans and friends, we met a lot of good people the last time we were there and I can't wait to see them all again.
RECTAL SMEGMA plays GrindCore/Death Metal and they come from The Netherlands. Formed in 2003, they released their debut in the form of a full length in 2005, ‘Licking A Leper’, followed only in 2009 by a split with
Portuguese band, Ultrapodre and their second full length, ‘Keep On Smiling’. The band consists of Frans (Gt), Yannic (Vk), Madhur (Bx) and Walter (Dr).
RS1- Yeah it's going to be our first gig in portugal and my first time ever in portugal for that matter. RS2- I have not heard about this fest untill we were going, i've seen pics and (great) lineups from last year and earlier years and the stage n stuff looks really cool! We've been to obscene extreme last year and really had a blast which will be hard to beat, but barrosselas looks really cool!! RS3-Slamming beats gurgling vocals and loud music, just some crazy dutch guys trying to give everyone a good time. humour is very important to us! PUT ON YOUR SWIMMINGTRUNKS 'N DANCE!
GAMA BOMB hails from Ireland where they were born in 2002. In the same year was released their first demo, ‘The Survival Option’ and two years later they unleashed one more, ‘The Fatal Mission’, seeing 2005 the release of the debut full length, ‘Survival Of The Fastest’ followed by ‘Citizen Brain’ in 2008 their last until now. This Thrash Metal horde consists of Joe McGuigan (Bx/Vk), Luke Graham (Gt), Domo Dixon (Gt), Philly Byrne (Vk) and Paul Caffrey (Dr).
If we speak of Black Metal in Portugal we’ve to know CORPUS CHRISTII. Formed in 1998 by Nocturnus Horrendus, the main mind behind it, they released their first demo in 1998, ‘Anno Domini’, followed by full lengths in 2000, ‘Saeculum Domini’, 2001 ‘The Fire God’, 2002 ‘In League With Black Metal’, 2003 ‘Tormented Belief’, 2005 ‘The Torment Continues’ and 2008 ‘Rising’, in between they unleash a couple splits and Ep’s. For recordings the band consists only of Nocturnus Horrendus (Vk) but live he is helped by, J (Gt), Angel-0 (Gt), Norgaath (Bx) and Menthor (Dr).
O1- Yes & We are as a whole very excited to play & experience your culture!!! O2- I have had many fans write via email/letters to please come to Portugal so I imagine this show is going to be fun!!! Almost always there is a lot of intensity at our shows... Unfortunately not but more details will be presented to us soon. CC1- No. CC2- We’ll do a concert with no difference regarding O3- Louder faster & tighter than anything we have ever other concerts, it would not be a special one just done on cd!!! We can't wait to come & play your because is the SWR Fest. Each concert is a Ritual and country!!! It’s gonna be Fun!!! that is what we’ll demonstrate to the audience. Normally we prefer smaller concerts with a more focused audience in what we do, but we have to deal with certain facts by playing in a Fest like this. CC3- I’ve immense respect for the organizers and wait that they can continue with this for many years. Now, of course that there have been always better years than others, not always we can have everything to our taste of course.
MOURNFUL CONGREGATION is a Funeral Doom band coming from Australia formed in 1994, the same year the released their first demo, ‘Weeping’, followed by a couple more, ‘An Epic Dream Of Desire’ in 1995 and ‘Tears From A Grieving Heart’ in 1998. After a couple splits the band released their first full length, ‘The Monad Of Creation’ in 2005, then a couple more splits and the second album is out this year, ‘The June Frost’. The band consists of, Damon Good (Gt/Vk), Adrian Bickle (Bx) and Justin Hartwig (Dr).
GB1- No, we visited Portugal last autumn on the Thrashing Like A Maniac Tour. We played in Cacilhas in Lisbon, Porto and Faro and we had a fantastic time. We love to drink Super Bock and the girls were beautiful - and everyone loves their thrash metal! GB2- Yeah, we're expecting a crazy crowd of course! Portugal is one of our favorite countries to visit in Europe, because people really respond to you and go totally crazy. We don't know much about the festival, but we're looking forward to getting there, hanging out, meeting all the people and watching some great bands. GB3- We're going to play a mixed set of songs from our first two albums - and we've got a brand new song, too. They can expect us to be drunk, fast and thrashing. We'll see you out there, and you'd better have a few beers with you! Keep it thrash!
Coming from the USA, ORIGIN is a Technical Death Metal band unleashing their brutality since1997. One year later they released their only demo, ‘A Coming Into Existence’, followed by the debut full length in 2000, ‘Origin’, after that one came a couple more in the shape of 2001 ‘Informis Infinitas Inhumanitas’ and 2005 ‘Echoes Of Decimation’. This last year of 2008 saw the release of their fourth album, ‘Antithesis’ another piece of shed brutality. After some changes throughout the years the band consists of, Paul Ryan (Gt/Vk), Jeremy Turner (Gt/Vk), John Longstreth (Dr), James Lee (Vk) and Mike Flores (Bx).
MC1- Yes, this is our first time ever in Portugal. MC2- We've heard only positive things about this fest and the crowds. Some great bands have played previously and there are also some excellent bands on this year so our expectations are high. MC3- A vision of misanthropy and extremity. A suicide choir from the deep south of this earth. Deserved doom shall be unto Portugal.
Coming from Portugal, THE FIRSTBORN begun their voyage as The Firstborn Evil in 1995, having released a demo, ‘The Awakening Of Evil’ in 1996 and a full length, ‘Rebirth Of Evil’ in 1998 under that banner. Then happened the change of name and as The Firstborn they released a couple of successful albums, ‘From The Past Yet To Come’ in 2000, ‘The Unclenching Of Fists’ in 2005 and ‘The Noble Search’ in 2008. Their Black Metal evolved from the Raw at the beginning to an unique type of Avant-Garde Black Metal. Nowadays the band is formed by Bruno Fernandes (Vk), Nuno Gervásio (Gt), Helder Malícia (Bx) and Rolando Barros (Dr).
TF1- It’s the third time that we play in Barroselas, departures in the band throughout the years, they are being the first in 2000 and the second in 2005. Ricardo Santos (Bx/Vk), Rui Frias (Gt), Gualter Couto TF2- We wait to manage to provide a different moment (Dr) and Paulo Bettencourt (Gt). in the festival, which stick in the memory of the persons ... We are going to play in the last day and know beforehand what the tiredness will be able to do so that it seems to everything sounds the same passing some time – we want to avoid to fall in that category. TF3- He has been curious to note that our growth while band accompanied by near the growth of the festival itself, there was always from a spirit of mutual help, what still remains today – I myself make part of the technical team of the SWR, and we did some WarmUp Sessions in last February. That this growth continues for both parts! MD1- In fact it will be our first appearance in Barroselas. I even can say that it will be our first appearance in a festival 100% dedicated to Metal, in the mainland. MD2- How you should guess, not always is easy for us to go to the mainland for performances. Not because we don’t want, but because of the financial aspect. Unfortunately, the air tariffs are not 'friendly at all' though we have the support this time from the Presidency of the Regional Government of Azores and of ANIMA Cultura, entity subsidized by the Câmara Municipal de Ponta Delgada. Without these supports, of certainty that would not be possible for us to go to Barroselas. As for the expectations, simply we want to amuse ourselves during our acting, amusing all the Yeah they are back! I’m speaking of one of the bands presents. It will be one more opportunity for spreading most awaited by their fans in this edition of SWR, our work that we are effectuating along ours 18 years ABSU. A band raised from Hell in 1991, releasing five of existence. For pointing out, that we also will act to 3 demos between 91 and 93 until their debut full length of May with Desire, in Lisbon in the Santiago was out in that some year, ‘Barathrum V.I.T.R.I.O.L’, Alchemist and to 5 of May, with the Headstone and followed by ‘The Sun Of Tiphareth’ in 1995 and ‘The Pitch Black, in Oporto, in the MetalPoint. All are Third Storm Of Cythraul’ in 1997. Then they closed invited... their chapter with ‘Tara’ in 2001, until now when they MD3- It will be the first time in which any element of released in the past February, ‘Absu’ their fifth album, Morbid Death will be present in the SWR-Barroselas a blast of Black/Thrash. M2- Last time we played SWR it was a fuckin' blast and I'm sure it will be another evil metal paradise this year too. Always expect some extreme crowd, Portugal is full of MANIACS. M3- The band is on his usual old school path, so Portuguese metal heads can expect a real overdose of morbid darkness through some REAL grinding death. This show will be also the presentation over Portugal of our new album "Mundo Cripta" and the new bass player Santi. Hope to meet you all over there, specially the old friends. One of the most active and well known bands in the Death/Grind scene hails from Spain and they answer by the name of MACHETAZO. Formed in 1994 they soon released their first demo ’46 Cabezas Aplastadas Por Un Yunque Oxidado’ in 95 soon followed by another in 98, ‘Realmente Disfruto Comiendo Cadaveres’. The band then defecated their first full length in 2000, ‘Carne de Cementerio’, followed by a couple more, ‘Trono De Huesos’ in 2002, ‘Sinfonias Del Terror Ciego’ in 2005 and in the past year, ‘Mundo Cripta’, all this beside a couple Ep´s and a bunch of splits. Throughout the years the band suffered from multiples changes on the line-up, consisting nowadays of Rober Bustabad (Gt), Santi (Bx) and Dopi (Dr/Vk).
Maybe the first Viking Metal band hailing from Portugal, GWYDION were formed in 1995. Their first release was the demo, ‘Debt To Morrighan’ in 98 followed by a couple more, ‘First Channeling’ in 2000 and ‘Augmentation’ in 2001, after that silence for seven years until they were reborn releasing their first full length, ‘Ynis Mön’. The band consists of, Ruben Almeida (Vk), Kaveirinha (Gt), Daniel César (Kb), Abreu (Dr), João Paulo (Gt) and Paulo (Bx).
A1- Yes, as this is also the first European performance for ABSU with the new line up. A2- I know it shall be captivating and quite spectacular. I have followed the festival's history through the report in Terrorizer magazine, so hopefully, there will be a hellish and barbaric crowd. We await thee. A3- Mythological Occult Metal Madness & Mysticism! We really look forward to this performance and cannot wait to see you all in Portugal! Ave Immortals!
Formed in 2005, ALCOHOLOCAUST is one of those bands that when they play live few are those who feel nothing, you either can love it or hate it! Hailing from Portugal these guys released in 2006, ‘Ensaio Do Diabo their first demo or more a rehearsal, being the proper demo, ‘Speed Degredo Metal’ released last year. The band is formed by, Blasphemator (Vk), Possessus (Gt), Necrus(Bx),Desekrator(Gt) & JpunkzHardBocker(Dr).
A1- Playing, they say it is! A2- We expect to be drunk enough to provide a blasphemic unload of decibels and feedbacks, spreading chaos and ‘degredo’ by those places. A3- That keeps for many years on providing us three days of infernal drunkness, ‘trapice’, parasitism, malnutrition, anti-bath, bad smell, ‘degredo’, mud and blasphemic rock’n’roll. And to give us beer, no?
MORBID DEATH is a Portuguese band coming from the beautiful landscapes of Azores. Formed in 1990, they are one of the oldest bands still active in Portugal, they released a couple demos, ‘Nomad’ in 93 and ‘Shameless Faith’ in 97, followed by their debut full length, ‘Echoes Of Solitude’ also in 97. After that they G1- Yes it’s our first presence in this Festival, and we put out two more Thrash albums, ‘Secrets’ in 2002 and M1- No, we played a few times over there, and the hope it will be the first of many more! ‘Unlocked’ in 2004. Nineteen years later and with some Veiga bros have been helping us for years. G2- The expectations are always big for this kind of
Festival, though it should face all the concerts likewise there are a few that are always more special than others, and we wait that this one become a great party surrounded by beer and fun! G3- Undoubtedly it’s with great pride we are able to participate in this festival that already conquered his place of honor in the metal National and International. Few words are to say when the things run well along the years, just to praise the work developed by the whole team of the SWR. We hope that this festival stay here for many more years!
Of Atrocious Suffering’ in 2002, followed in 2005 by ‘The Inerrancy Of Profanation’. The only guy behind the band is Shawn Whitaker although live he has some live session members supporting him.

Evolving to the current name, they debuted with the demo ‘Of The Singing Dusk’ in 96, that preceded their first full length, ‘Descend Supreme Sunset’ in 98, followed by ‘Midnight In The Garden Of Hell’ in 2000, ‘Nigrium Nigrius Nigro’ in 2005 and the latest, ‘Thus Open Thine Eerie Wings Like An Eagle And Soar The Winds Of Chaos’ in 2008, beside a couple Ep´s in between. The band had some ins and outs being nowadays, Bruno Correia (Gt/Vk), Bruno Bernardo (Gt) and João Marques (Dr).
ID1- Actually no, I've played in Portugal at least 3 different times. ID2- I expect this fest to fucking crush! Yea, I'm expecting 1000+ peeps and I've known about this fest for about 4 years, so it's gonna be great to finally play! ID3- They can expect only one thing: TXDM!! And to all metal heads in Portugal, STAY SICK ETERNAL!
THE RANSACK comes from Portugal with their mix of Thrash with Death Metal in a blend called by the band of Extreme Metal. They began their voyage in this life with the demo, ‘Chaotic’ from 2002 released a year after the birth of the band. In 2005 they put out the Mcd, ‘Necropolis’ that was followed by the first full length, ‘Azrael’ two years later. And as they don’t sleep in the work done, they released just this year their second one, ‘Vortex’. With a couple changes in the line-up throughout the years nowadays they are Jay (Bx), Shore (Gt/Vk), Loki (Gt) and Zeus (Dr).
TR1- This is our second time that we are present in the SWR, after we have played in the ninth edition of the Festival by time of the promotion of the Ep Necropolis. TR2- Barroselas it’s probably the most important Underground festival in Portugal, that way it’s with pride and a privilege in being present in one edition more. We know that we’ll have a good audience and excellent conditions like it has been usual. TR3- Part I’ve answered in the previous question, it’s the biggest and most important National Festival, where it gathers the Portuguese bands and are add a series of International bands of reference, to build a venue that is becoming a cult in Portugal!
DEMON DAGGER comes from Portugal and brings you their blend of Thrash/Speed Metal. Born in 1995 they released their first work in the shape of a demo self titled in 96 followed by one more ‘Frenzy Wraith’ in 98. In 99 they released their first full length, ‘Aftershock’ that was followed by ‘Inanna Ishtar’ in 2003. Six years later, ‘Cain Complex’ will see the light of day and it will be their third album. Nowadays the band consists of Litos (Vk), Vitor Carvalho (Gt/Vk), Miguel Carvalho (Dr), Paulo Chanoca (Bx) & Gilly Ribeiro (Live Gt).
ITU1- No, it’s our fourth time in this festival. ITU2- We are going to try to give a good concert, quick and concise and to try to play a little of each phase of our career. ITU3- It is an important festival, with a history and an already quite strong cult, and is an honor for us to make part of the alignment again.
DESPISE comes from the Czech Republic and they exist since 1998. Their first release was the demo ‘Confinement In Decrepitude’ in 2001 followed by a couple splits and a promo in 2005. In 2006 they issued a best of, ‘7 Years of Chaos’ and in the next year finally the first full length was out, ‘Fragments Of Reprisal’. This Brutal Death combo is formed by, Sepp (Vk), DD1- No, we played in 2002 also promoting the release Beavis (Vk), Dejvy (Gt), Jarda (Gt), Lopuch (Dr) and of our latest album at the time, ‘Inanna Ishtar’! It was Ko3zy (Bx) after some changes throughout the years. a memorable experience. DD2- We will be going to prepare a quite energetic concert and with great dynamic resonant, using the opportunity to present the most intense registers of our 3rd album " Cain Complex ", which will go out in the day 18 of April. So, we faced this concert with a very high expectation, as soon as it will be the 1st concert after the release of the album allowing testing the reaction of the public to the tracks presented. DD3- The festival has been growing to a crazy rhythm of year for year, for which we would like to use this D1- Hi Nuno, great to hear from you! And thank you opportunity to congratulate the brothers "Veiga ", as for your interest in Despise.. In fact, this is going to be well as the remaining organization , for the pledge and our first gig in Portugal. We are very excited about the dedication that they have been allowing the upcoming show at SWR Barroselas Metalfest.. And we propagation of this our musical metal "world". Our are very happy that the tour is going to hit Portugal as congratulations for everything. well. It was such a shame two years back when we were
on tour with Devourment and Viral Load that we did not make it to stop in Portugal too. In fact, this is what is making this tour special - that we will get to play in a country where we have never played before, especially with such cool bands like Insidious Decrepancy and Unmerciful! D2- Only maximum and positive expectations! We always hear that the people in Portugal are fantastic and that the crowd can go crazy! Really curious to see whether people like the Despise shit as well or not.. We will definitely spill the blood for you guys! It is always Coming from the USA, INSIDIOUS DECREPANCY our aim to perform at our best! We have a new line-up its quiet an unusual band in the Brutal Death scene, (a new drummer + a new bass player + 2 singers now), much because is formed just by one person. Born in the IN THA UMBRA exists since 1996 in the Portuguese we have a couple of new songs and a lot of enthusiasm year 2000, they made their debut with ‘Decadent Orgy to play live after a few months of absence at the stages.. Underground, but their history goes back until 1991 And what do we know about Barroselas Metal Fest?
Definitely that it is one of the most prestigious extreme metal fests in Portugal (if not the most prestigious :-)). We know it has been there for many years and that a lot of killer bands have played there.. It is a shame that we cannot stay for all three days and that we are going to miss bands like Origin, Absu etc. D3- Well, hopefully the best what we can do.. We have been around for a couple of years and we still try to make our concerts better and better. Musically we have evolved from a slamming / guttural / heavy kind of death-grind towards faster, more technical and varied death metal with some hardcore influences and melodic touch.. Still keeping it brutal as well.. We love our music and have fun playing it live - and we try to transfer that energy to the crowd. And when we see that the people like too, that makes it even more intense for everybody.. Such interaction is unbelievable.. This is something that can only happen at death metal shows. CRYSTALLINE DARKNESS hails from Portugal existing since 2006. Playing a kind of Ambient Black Metal they have released the debut demo, ‘Melancólica Nostalgia’ in 2008 and ‘Delirios’ a split with country mates Pestilência this year. The band is formed by Demoniac (Vk/Gt), Funeriis (Dr) and Effrenus (Bx). EQUALEFT comes from Portugal, more exactly from Oporto city and they exist since 2003. They released their debut last year in the form of the demo ‘As The Irony Prevails’ a strong release of Thrash/Death. The band consists of Miguel (Vk), Nuno (Gt), Marcos (Dr), Rui (Vk), Tiago (Gt) and Alexandre (Bx).
CD1- Has a band yes! Personally I attend this festival it makes a couple of years. CD2- They do not exist. The moment will be going to define our performance. In the middle of so much improvise and of emotional chaos it is almost impossible to determine the final result. It will be going to be different, like each concert that we give. Happen what to happen, already it is very important for us to step on that stage. CD3- Barroselas is undoubtedly the biggest festival from Metal in Portugal. I have a great respect for the brothers Veiga in their determination and principally for the varied bills that we have been finding in the last six years. An organization that does not follow fashions and that contents itself with showing that there are not metal horizons that they do not include. It is undoubtedly a special festival for me. If it wasn’t never I would be doing the sacrifices that I am to be present in it. And that the flame of Barroselas burns for very much more decades!

Coming from France, YEAR OF NO LIGHT will be showing their Sludge/Drone Doom Metal in the SWR stage. HACKSAW is a young band coming from Portugal although much of their members have a rich past in the Portuguese Underground. The band consists of, Luis Lisboa(Vk), Toni(Gt), Susana(Bx) & Barroso(Dr).
H1- Yes, while band (Hacksaw) is the first time that we are going to play there. Nevertheless, it is not the first time that we mark presence. Some of the members of the band there played already previous editions with other projects as well as, while audience, we were in several of these editions. H2- Those of the custom, do all possible to offer a good show to the ones who will be going to see us! But, above all, our posture is essentially relaxed and uncompromised. What it matters is the fact that we feel well with what we do, in such a form that becomes possible to create an environment (equally) casually and contagious. If we manage to reach this step, we will feel carried out. H3- Undoubtedly an example of effort and dedication! Twelve years after the first edition (and I take into account that the work began well before this first edition) keep on carrying out dreams of many lovers of the extreme music and on offering to all of those that go there a quite intimate and familiar environment, of pure rock’n’roll. Those who dare on those three days will have difficulty to forget the experience!
Veterans GROG exist in the Portuguese Underground since 1991 being probably the biggest reference in my country in the Brutal Death scene. Their debut was released a year after in the shape of the demo, ‘The Bluuaaarrrggghh Rehearsal’ soon followed in 93 by another demo, ‘A Nauseating Sweet Taste’. 94 saw the release of the Ep, ’95 Stabwounds In Your Throat’ and 96 their first full length, ‘Macabre Requiems’. In 99 they released one more demo, ‘Regurgitate’ and 2001 was the year of their last album until now, ‘Odes To The Carnivourous’. After that they went into silence that was broken a couple of times with some live shows and now they are back. So, nowadays they are Pedro Pedra (Vk), Hugo Andremon (Gt), Ivo Martins (Gt), Alexandre Ribeiro (Bx) and Rolando Barros (Dr).

Death Metal is what THERIOMORPHIC is going to unleash in Barroselas. Formed in Lisbon in 1997, they release in 2000 the demo ‘The Human Masquerade’ and the first album in 2005, ’Enter The Mighty Theriomorphic’, three years later they were back in records releasing, ‘The Beast Brigade’. Throughout the years the band had some changes in the line-up being nowadays formed by, Jó (Bx/Vk), Zé (Gt), Cláudio (Gt) and André (Dr).
T1- No, it’s our fourth! We played before on the 2000, 2004 and 2006 editions! T2- If it will be the reaction how in the previous times, I think that it will be a good concert. In other years, we were very well received, I think that this time there will be more people to know us and with pleasure of us seeing. Because of being also connected with an excursion for the festival and for the sale of tickets, I notice that it seems to be to a bigger search than in the previous years, which is a very good sign. T3- For our part, our passages for the SWR were always important for the path of the band. Personally, I only didn’t go to the first edition of the festival, therefore, to play in Barroselas it always has a very special meaning. It gives taste to see the form like the festival has been evolving in all the aspects and we wait that is so for many more years.
