Dear Members,

gm update

On behalf of Matt Berry and his team, I’m excited to announce that later this week, we will open the newly surfaced courts for play. The courts have been resurfaced with Rebound Ace, a premium cushioning product. Court 6 will open as a Tennis Court with two pickleball courts and Matt and his team will set hours for booking either pickleball or tennis bookings.

Our new club App has been very well received, and I encourage all members to download the app and add a profile picture for enhanced club security. Let's get to 1000 members on the App by downloading it here.

For all the updated hours of operation and need-to-know information, This Week at La Cumbre has all the information you need, and it’s available on the home screen of your app.

The March Board brief can be found here.

My very best,

THINK LIKE THE PROS THINK LIKE THE PROS

FROM TRAVIS BREGMAN, PGA

FIRST ASSISTANT GOLF PROFESSIONAL

We can all accept that we won’t hit shots like Scottie Scheffler (even if our finishes look similar sometimes). What we can do is learn to think like the pros. Target selection is critical in golf, and there are ways to improve your average score by selecting optimal targets. Yes, you can improve your score right now without hitting better shots. We will focus specifically on tee shots and how picking the correct target will lower your scores.

First, you must understand shot dispersion. Each shot you hit can travel left or right of your intended target, and the distance between your farthest left miss and farthest right miss is your dispersion. A professional golfer’s dispersion with his driver is about 70 yards, so his shots usually finish within 35 yards right or left of his intended target. When you think of the target as an area rather than just a single point, we can make better strategic decisions.

The 16th hole at La Cumbre is a perfect example for choosing an optimal target off the tee. There is out of bounds to the left and trees to the right, but out of bounds and trees are not equal in the severity of penalty. If you hit your tee shot out of bounds to the left, you are penalized one stroke and must hit the tee shot again, which is effectively a two-shot penalty. If you hit your tee shot into the trees, then your worst-case scenario is likely to be chipping sideways back into the fairway, which is effectively a one-shot penalty. Therefore, if you had to error towards one side, then missing to the right is clearly a better option.

GOLFPROformance
BACKTOCONTENTS

Most amateurs’ dispersions with driver are only slightly larger than professionals’ because amateurs’ drives travel a shorter distance, so the ball does not have the ability to travel as far offline. To ensure that you very rarely hit a ball out of bounds to the left of the 16th hole, you should aim at least 40 yards right of the out of bounds. This would place the center of your dispersion, or your target, near the right edge of the fairway. Yes, you may hit a few more drives into the trees, but you’ll almost eliminate your out of bounds penalties, which will result in lower scores over time. Limiting penalties is the fastest way to lower your scores and does not require exceptional shots. The optimal target is rarely the center of a fairway, so upgrade your strategy and pick the optimal target like the pros.

Niners' March St. Paddy's Day Tournament Recap: Fun, Golf, and Irish Spirit! NNINERSNEWS

Having missed our Super Bowl 9 & Dine due to inclement weather, the Niners were rarin' to go for our March St. Paddy's Day tournament, which enjoyed picture-perfect weather. Everyone donned their best Irish Green and gathered in front of the pro shop to hear instructions for the "Irish Scramble," which featured little green balls that had to be used for the first drive. Players on each team took a turn on each hole making that first drive - which had to be used - and if the green ball was lost, the team was penalized two strokes. The normal scramble format was followed on the second shot Of course, Evan's drink of the day featuring vodka and creme de menthe definitely helped the players keep their Irish spirit alive, and memories of bad drives and missed putts were quickly forgotten.

First place winners: Gaile & Dale Haslem with Tracy & Stuart Jenkins

Second place winners: Allie Banyattrakoonpan & Dave Zaniboni with Kathy Gallagher & Mike Eliason

Third place winners: Karen & Tom Carey with Claudia & Henning Thorsen

Fourth place winners: Judi & Tom Brooks with Diane & Rick Nightingale

Back at the clubhouse, Chef Eric prepared a very tasty dinner of beautifully presented corned beef & cabbage, followed by mint ice cream topped with a shamrock cookie While awaiting dessert service, Evan and Jilly Winchester moderated a game of "Irish Slang," guessing the meaning of Irish words and phrases, which was pretty tricky! As part of the festivities, Evan was awarded a beautiful engraved decanter from the Niners, acknowledging his 43 years of dedication at LCCC Karen Carey presented the decanter and delivered a moving tribute to Evan for his remarkable tenure and commitment to LCCC and The Niners.

Adapting to Change

With the launch of the new app at the club, I figured it would be fitting to talk about adapting to change in our lives. Each one of us will handle change differently, but here are three strategies that can help us navigate uncertainty in our lives.

Having a Growth Mindset

At some point in our lives, we will all experience change. Sometimes, this change is welcomed and wanted; other times, it’s anything but. Regardless of the type of change we encounter, it's important to approach it with a level head and an open mind. This type of thinking is also known as a growth mindset approach. A growth mindset allows us to see these changes as stepping stones towards self-development rather than barriers to our current lifestyle. Any strategy that empowers us as individuals and diminishes the perceived power of “the change” is a strategy that we want to implement.

Self-Reflection

If you don’t know how you are handling or responding to change, asking yourself a very pointed question can help guide you into better decision-making. I love to ask myself, “Am I being adaptable, am I open to new ideas, am I being flexible in my approach, and am I developing problem-solving skills?”. If the answer is no to any of these, then I know I am limiting my potential for growth during this time of uncertainty. Next time you experience change, take a step back, have a moment of self-reflection, and ask yourself one of these questions. Answer openly and honestly and see if it provides you with some clarity moving forward.

THEDIVOT|FITNESS BACKTOCONTENTS

Building a Support Network

Surrounding yourself with a supportive network of friends, family, mentors, and peers can provide valuable encouragement, guidance, and perspective during times of change and uncertainty. Reach out to trusted individuals for advice, feedback, and emotional support. Sharing your experiences and learning from other's experiences can help you gain new insights and approaches to dealing with challenges.

Facing change with an open mind, thoughtful self-reflection, and a network of trusted individuals by our side allows us to see the positives it can create in our lives.
