Learn French another way FLCE classes have always been part of La CLEF’s activities. These classes, which were once directly linked to the "French Alliance", will help foreign residents learn French and become familiar with our country’s cultural background. All our teachers are native and fully qualified.
A complete and efficient method
Efficient teaching methods Our classes will help students gain a wider vocabulary, become more fluent and acquire a more precise understanding of the French language. They will help them deal with their everyday activities and communicate more efficiently in their various fields of interests and according to their specific needs. An excellent preparation to language certificates At the end of their curriculum at La CLEF, students may take the “DELF” (French Language Studies Degree) as well as the “TCF” (French Language Competence Test), both delivered by the International Educational Studies Center (“CIEF”). All the students attending La CLEF’s classes generally pass their exams, thus reaching the European Reference Level of Competence for Languages (“CECR”). Adaptable teaching methods Our teachers use various teaching aids during their classes, such as workbooks, newspaper articles, novels, various texts opening to discussion, short films, online exercise, news, CDROM, documentaries… Workshops in addition to regular classes The students all take part in various phonetic and conversation workshops in the course of their studies at la CLEF.
Every student works according to his or her needs
Various class levels LA CLEF does its best to adapt to each student. Different classes can be attended according to the students’ level : beginner, elementary, intermediate, advanced, highly advanced. Changes in level can be made every semester. A place where everyone is taken care of Reduced classes, in addition to la CLEF’s social events is one of the keys to the students’ well-being within our association.
Who can attend the classes ? The classes are open to everyone, without any discrimination, according to La CLEF’s ethical values.
Au pair or guest families :
Being an Au pair is certainly the best way to learn a foreign language. In order to make this experience really worthwhile, the Au pair is expected to take French classes’ (a minimum of 10 hours / week is required). La CLEF offers both the adapted classes and the opportunity to meet fellow students, thus giving the Au pair a unique opportunity to improve their level in French and become more independent.
You’ve just moved to France and / or simply wish to brush up on your French…
Our classes are also adapted to your needs. There is no place like La CLEF to make new acquaintances and feel at home in our town.
You are an employee (or married to one) and would like to be granted in-service training by your firm.
La CLEF also signs training agreements, under the “DIF” convention, which give you a right to financial support by your employer. * The FLCE classes must be attended to be granted an Au pair status.
Contributions "What did I like best about La CLEF ? The positive atmosphere. Our teacher was both nice and patient and always payed attention to everyone one us. This is very important as some students learn differently, and have very different fields of competence." Ildiko, Hungarian "I spent one year in France working as an Au pair. I wanted to improve my French and I therefore took classes at La CLEF. The atmosphere was very casual and I learned a lot : the lessons helped me get familiar with, and understand the French and their country." Nicole, German "Attending classes at la CLEF made my stay in France as an Au pair even more interesting. The teachers are both welcoming and competent, their teaching methods are efficient and give you self-confidence. Thanks to them, I’ve become practically bilingual. The atmosphere at la CLEF is great for learning, one can attend all the cultural activities as well as the phonetic and conversation workshops or the various trips organized for the FLCE students. Students come from all over the world and this gave me the opportunity to share my own culture and meet the others’."
Béa, Mexican "I had a great time at la CLEF and I met extraordinary people. I immediately felt at ease. The teachers taught us many things about the French language and culture. I met other Au pair and we organized various parties and shows at la CLEF (like for example, a theater play, a karaoke or a concert…) I really enjoyed the very cosy atmosphere. It definitely was more than just a place where you take lessons." Josephin’ , German
* Josephin also took gym lessons and was an elected representative of the FLCE activity at our General Assembly.
One or two things about LA CLEF La CLEF is a non-profit association sponsored by the city of Saint-Germain-en-Laye. It’s been involved in the city’s cultural life and animation for over 20 years and is an ideal place for the FLCE (French Language and Culture for Foreigners) classes.
Educational sphere
Every year, more than 2000 people apply to the approximately 50 leisure and educational activities (dance, sports, arts and crafts, theater and writing, music, English…). The Au pair taking the FLCE courses at la La CLEF are allowed an 80% discount on all of our group activities (gymnastics, dance, L.I.A.).
Cultural and artistic sphere
Over 15 000 people attend the shows and concerts organized at La CLEF. Approximately 10 art shows also take place every year in our premises. FLCE students often get the opportunity to meet artists and musicians or take part in openings and other cultural events.
Community life
La CLEF has always defended moral values like listening, welcoming and sharing… In that respect, the casual open lounge area on the ground floor of our building is the ideal place to make new acquaintances. La CLEF also wishes to contribute to the personal autonomy and self-realization of its members by encouraging personal involvement in our structure’s community life, and by offering a cross-field approach to its activities.
