he year of 2019 was another successful year for the West Cobb Business Association (WCBA). I’d like to personally thank our many sponsors for investing in our association and businesses throughout the West Cobb community. Because of your generosity, WCBA hosted regular luncheons and networking events, including WCBA 101, Fun Fest, Public Safety Gala, Thursday-morning networking and after hour mingles. In turn, we continued to support the West Cobb community through charitable donations, awards, scholarships and community service. This was only made possible through the dedication of WCBA’s returning members, as well as new additions to our member roster. Thank you! THE VISION: The MBA Mission Statement promotes civic, social, and business goals through providing a forum to exchange business policies and create good customer relationships all in good faith and integrity. These are direct from the Bylaws. The YEAR of #LEADERSHIP. Marietta is one of the largest counties in the state of Georgia and is home to many big name businesses (i.e. Home Depot, Atlanta United, Lockheed Martin, Atlanta Braves, etc). As small business owners how do we become leaders in this type of community? When someone wants to buy a house, do they think of you? When another business needs to build employee benefit plans, do they think of you? The MBA does not have to be the largest association in the state, but we do need to be the first choice for small businesses in the area. We do not simply encourage doing business with one another, we exemplify it ourselves. We lead by example. THE GOAL: We Exist to Support One Another. It’s that simple. As business leaders and owners, we are pioneers, it’s why we join a business association to begin with. Members become knowledgeable about the community, its drivers, and its resources, so we can create and leverage relationships that drive business collectively. As the association grows, so does its belief in its members, creating a culture where we exist to support one another. We shop at each other’s businesses and restaurants, we hire services from members, we connect each other with members, we exist to support one another!

cworth, Georgia is located about 35 miles northwest of Atlanta minutes off I-75. Located between LakePoint Sporting Community and Kennesaw State University, it exemplifies the quality of life most Americans dream about.

While it is close enough to Atlanta to experience professional sports and cultural events equated with a larger city, the small-town atmosphere of Acworth provides opportunities for families that offer fun and tranquility. Home to Lake Acworth and Lake Allatoona, rich in history with plenty of outdoor recreational activities, discover why you’re welcome in Acworth! According to the most recent U.S. Census, the diverse 8.24 square mile city is home to approximately 23,000 people, up 8,000 people since 2000. Males make up 47.6% of the population, females slightly more at 52.4%, while the median age is 30.7 years. Like many cities near Atlanta, Acworth is diverse, as Caucasians make up 62.5% of the population, while African-Americans and Hispanics make up a combined 38% of city residents. Acworth’s Main Street is part of the Dixie Highway and the two lane road runs through the historic center of the city.

RECREATION The outdoor enthusiast will feel right at home in Acworth! Acworth is known as “The Lake City” as it is nestled in between Lake Allatoona and Lake Acworth. You are sure to find an activity that appeals to you whether it’s swimming at Cauble Park or taking your canoe out for an afternoon of fishing. Lake Acworth is now a hot destination for paddleboarders due to its proximity to Atlanta and because no motorized craft are allowed on the lake. Want to hit the links? Don’t miss Cobblestone Golf Course, which is ranked one of the best public courses not only in Georgia, but the country! SPORTS The City of Acworth is proud of its sports facilities and is home to plenty of recreational leagues for youth. Leagues include the Acworth Warriors Football and Cheerleading Association, the Acworth Baseball Association, and Acworth Youth Basketball. If you’re an adult looking to stay active, check out the Acworth Adult Flag Football League. Kennworth Park, located within the city and managed by Cobb P.A.R.K.S., also offers adult softball, kickball and tennis. Acworth plays host to multiple sports tournaments throughout the year as well as 5K runs.

ENTERTAINMENT

The city hosts an array of special events throughout the year. Several large, impactful events take place in Acworth starting in April with the Acworth Art Fest, Smoke on the Lake BBQ Festival in May, July 4th Concert and Fireworks, Taste of Acworth in October, a Craft Beer Festival in November, and quarterly Classic Car Cruises. There are two other distinct corridors in Acworth other than our Historic Downtown: the I-75 interchange and also Highway 41. There you will find all the major national retail chains, hotels, restaurants and grocery stores. There is also a Cabela’s located off I-75 at Exit 277.

GOVERNMENT A five-member Board of Alderman governs Acworth; the elected serve staggered four-year terms. The City’s Mayor is also elected to a four-year term. A beautiful place to live, Acworth is also safe, providing its own police force. So safe, in fact, that in 2015, Acworth was named Georgia’s second safest city. The city provides electrical and sanitation services for all residents, and water and sewer service is provided through Cobb County. The county also provides fire protection to the city. In addition to all its peace and comfort, the City of Acworth also provides its residents with a growing economy and quality economic development opportunities. Acworth has an estimated median household income of $61,560, much larger than the State average ($50,861). Similarly, the city’s estimated median home value is $222,000, which compares favorably to the state average, $169,100.

Kennesaw isn’t simply a beautiful place with quality education and a robust economy, it’s a city filled with fun and entertainment as well. History buffs can get a taste of local tradition and culture by visiting the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History, a Smithsonian-affiliated museum that is home to the locomotive General made famous by the Civil War’s Great Locomotive Chase. The nearby Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield National Park is not only a mecca for history enthusiasts, it is also a desirable spot for those who like to bike, run, hike, or relax with their pets.

The 42-acre Swift-Cantrell Park, recognized with the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence as one of the best parks in the business, is the city’s largest community park. It contains several state-ofthe-art playgrounds for kids, the Frank Boone Dog Park, picnic pavilions, a wellness station, an asphalt track, and tons of open space. The jewel of the park is the 40,000 square foot, allconcrete Kennesaw Skatepark which features a Street League Certified skate plaza, flow course, and bowl open to all at no charge. The park also hosts various events including outdoor movies and play days.

EDUCATION With top-notch choices in education like Harrison, North Cobb, and Kennesaw Mountain High Schools as well as excellent public and private pre-K, elementary, and middle schools, Kennesaw possesses a vibrant population of kids and young adults. Marietta was chosen as the home base for the Western and Atlantic Rail, and rapidly began to grow, becoming incorporated in 1852. GOVERNMENT Marietta is the seat of Cobb County, which is run by a Mayor, a City Council and a City Manager. The Marietta Police Department (MPD) encourages citizens to get involved with the community. estled in the northwestern suburbs of Atlanta, the Smyrna/Vinings area has quickly become one of Cobb County’s most sought-after communities in which to live. The Vinings community is located alongside the Chattahoochee, ten miles northwest of downtown Atlanta. Combined with the much larger city of Smyrna, the two are home to roughly 60,000 residents. Widely considered among greater Atlanta’s most beautiful cities, Smyrna is popularly recognized as the “Jonquil City”, named after the thousands of jonquils that flourish in gardens along its streets in the early spring.

In addition to its undisputed natural charm, Smyrna is very much considered a pro-business and service-oriented community. It has been an integral part of Cobb County’s recent growth and development and is recognized as one of Atlanta’s most desirable places to live as a result.

GOVERNMENT Vinings is technically unincorporated, and is therefore under the jurisdiction of Cobb’s County Commission and other public services. As for Smyrna, its residents elect a Mayor and seven Council members, who represent the city’s seven wards. The aforementioned governors are elected to four-year terms and appoint a City Administrator to serve as the City’s Chief Administrative Officer.

SPORTS & RECREATION Though it’s on the smaller side, Vinings is filled with noteworthy sites and attractions, some of the historic sort. The Pace House offers the remains of what was once a 17-bedroom antebellum mansion, first home to the City’s founder, Hardy Pace, and later rebuilt (between 1865-1874) by his son, Solomon Pace. It is now a three-bedroom house and pavilion that accommodates visitors as well as those looking to host a party/ceremony. Vinings is also home to the historic Silver Comet Trail, and the state of the art Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, Atlanta’s premier performance venue. Smyrna is an equally outdoor-driven community, with a sprawling collection of parks, jogging trails, pools, lighted tennis courts, and public golf courses.

COBB COUNTY FUNDING THE FUTURE THROUGH COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENT DISTRICTS (CIDS) COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENT DISTRICTS As early as the 1980s, the leaders of Cobb County implemented the Community Improvement District (CID) concept to address transportation issues in key economic corridors of Cobb County. In Cobb, it is believed that success is best accomplished through a level of capable, progressive local leadership. CIDs involve participants who voluntarily increase their property taxes to stimulate enhancements such as aesthetic improvements, civic promotion, and long-term property value increases. CIDs also pave the way to state and federal grants. The result is a long-term increase in property and community value through the upfront contribution of tax revenue. Created through agreements with city and county governments, CIDs have become mainstays in some of Cobb’s affluent communities. Since the first Georgia CID was established in Cobb County in 1988, another 24 CIDs have been developed in the state—most of them in metro Atlanta. The results are exceptional: Transportation needs are addressed through inventiveness, superb planning and targeted investments.

CUMBERLAND CID (CCID) After the opportunity to establish CIDs was created by the Georgia State Legislature, Cobb was the first county to create one with the inception of the Cumberland Community Improvement District 30 years ago. United in a common goal, commercial property owners in the area formed the CID, serving to increase property values for the County’s central business district. The Cumberland CID holds the distinction of being a regional model and one of the most successful in the state. Thanks to its public-private partnerships, the CCID has leveraged $140 million into more than 2 billion dollars in roads, bridges, streetscapes, bicycle trails and more. The Cumberland CID is 6.5 square miles in area. The submarket represents 4 percent of Georgia’s total jobs with approximately 90,000 full-time. GATEWAY MARIETTA CID The Gateway Marietta CID was founded in June of 2014 and is located in the City of Marietta, primarily along Franklin Road, between South Marietta Parkway

and Delk Road. The initial goals for the CID are to help the City of Marietta clean the area up through infrastructure and beautification, as well as to form a unified voice for an area that has lacked a vision for decades. The first major project to locate within the district is the Atlanta United Football Club training facility. The development will be the flagship soccer facility in the Southeast. TOWN CENTER COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT (TCCID) The Town Center CID (TCCID), a six-square-mile district nestled between the cities of Marietta and Kennesaw, has invested more than $147M in 26 infrastructure and beautification projects over its 20-year history. COBB: A COMMUNITY ON THE RISE The Cobb Chamber’s new brand and new address signify an upward trajectory for this growing business advocacy organization. By Sharon Mason, President and CEO of the Cobb Chamber of Commerce

The past 24 months have been a time of unprecedented growth for the Cobb Chamber, but also for Cobb County. In this time frame, the Chamber has successfully advocated for increased economic competitiveness, supported expanded benefits for local entrepreneurs and small businesses, launched an international marketing strategy and industry councils for workforce target industries, recruited nearly 9,000 high quality jobs to the county, collaborated with the county and business leaders to form a transportation & mobility committee, held record-breaking membership campaigns, and created a new outlook for itself through a rebranding process and relocation.

In January 2019, the Cobb Chamber’s building at 240 Interstate North Parkway was put on the market. By early September, the sale of the building finalized and the Chamber announced its plans to lease 17,517 square feet of office space at 1100 Circle 75 in Cumberland on the full 10th floor. A 120-day construction timeline went into action. The Chamber’s new location at 1100 Circle 75 offers many advantages to the organization. The new office space tells a compelling visual story. With 360-degree views of Truist Park and The Battery Atlanta, many businesses throughout Cobb, and the Atlanta skyline, the Chamber’s new home illustrates its work within the region and its role in bringing landmark projects to the county. The Cobb Chamber offices span

the entire 10th floor, featuring collaborative workspaces for staff, a bistro-style breakroom, modern office furnishings, and enhanced meeting spaces for members, committees, community partners and economic development prospects. Cumberland CID, Cobb Community Foundation and Development Authority of Cobb County are also part of the Chamber’s 10th floor offices. Several organizations within the Chamber’s membership invested in the new headquarters with the following room dedications: The Synovus Board Room, the Wellstar Community Room, the Georgia Power Conference Room, the Cobb EMC and Gas South Executive Conference Room, and the Superior Men and Superior Women restrooms sponsored by Superior Plumbing. The Cobb Chamber has dedicated its entire 10th floor to U.S. Senator Johnny H. Isakson. The Chamber’s previous building was named in honor of Sen. Isakson. Carrying his name in the new location showcases the instrumental leader he has been to the county, state and country through his more than 40 years in public office.

After a successful strategic planning process in 2017, a key piece of feedback was revealed – the Chamber facility needed an update. During the following year, the Chamber formed a committee to reimagine our existing space, tour various headquarters, and conduct a cost benefit analysis. The 2019 project wins included: BIOIQ – located in the Wildwood complex in Cumberland; created 500 jobs; $5M in investment; a global headquarters project for the healthtech industry DIEBOLD NIXDORF – located in the Overlook complex in Cumberland; created 30 jobs, $850K in investment; a North American headquarters project in the fintech industry CARMAX – located in Chastain Meadows of Kennesaw/Town Center; created 200 jobs; a sales office representing the finance industry NOVELIS – an expansion at their Global Innovation Center in Kennesaw; created 40 jobs; $2.5M in investment; added research and development jobs within this rolled alumninum manufacturer PLETHORA – a Global headquarters relocation to Marietta; created 250 jobs in manufacturing Since its launch in 2013, SelectCobb has assisted over 130 businesses, created or retained 31,000 jobs, and brought in $2.9B in new investment to the county. The SelectCobb team is currently working around 60 active projects, and these projects are interested in areas throughout the county from South Cobb and Marietta to Cumberland and Town Center.

A New Brand The Cobb Chamber’s new home at 1100 Circle 75 brings new opportunities, but the new address also adequately reflects the new Cobb Chamber brand. In December, the Chamber launched a new logo featuring a bold symbol that tells an important story. The symbol is a capital C that also calls to mind a round table with an open seat, inviting member collaboration and input. As an organization, the Chamber strives to be as inviting as possible, encouraging its members to bring their unique voices to the organization, giving them a seat at the table. The Chamber’s new headquarters and brand help tell a bold story and champion the Chamber’s work to support the power of opportunity, forging connections, community partnerships, and creating the conditions for healthy commerce. With Cobb County as a central hub for talent and business success, the Chamber works to empower and equip professionals who are seeking more. The focus of our work is our members, their successes, and their stories, and our new brand celebrates our members, their ambition and their work to make Cobb County a remarkable place to build a career, grow a business and pursue a dream.

2020 Outlook For 2020, following the great leadership of our 2019 Chairman Mitch Rhoden of Futren Hospitality, the Cobb Chamber’s work continues through its board and our 2020 Chairman John Loud of LOUD Security Systems, Inc. Special focus on the core areas of the Chamber’s mission— business advocacy, membership services, and economic development— remain top priorities, but the Chamber is also committed to enhancing its workforce development efforts, encouraging entrepreneurial growth and supporting Cobb’s military community and Dobbins Air Reserve Base. This year, there is exciting movement on our focus for creating career pathways for students and strengthening its workforce pipeline. Both Marietta City Schools and Cobb County Public School District will open college and career academies. The Marietta High School

College and Career Academy is a $12 million facility that will feature classes in high-demand career skill sets, like business accounting and biotech sciences. In the spring, Cobb County Public School District is set to open the Cobb Career Academy at Osborne High School. The Academy is a $14.5-million facility will welcome students for the 20202021 school year, offering curriculum in maker industries, emerging technologies and healthcare services. In addition to K-12, the Cobb Chamber is also working closely with its universities and businesses through Cobb Workforce Partnership to expand the workforce pipeline. In addition, with the significant number of Veterans in metro Atlanta and Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Cobb, the Cobb Chamber is exploring ways to bring workforce training to local veterans and retired military personnel. Veterans possess a strong work ethic, specialized training, and excellent teaming skills, and this will significantly help both our Veterans and businesses. It’s clear that Cobb is a community that takes action. For the next 12 months, the Cobb Chamber and its community and economic development partners will continue to create an atmosphere that supports ambition and innovation and positions Cobb for success. n the school listings you will see two numbers, a College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) and a Climate rating. The CCRPI is a comprehensive school improvement, accountability and communication platform for all educational stakeholders that will promote college and career readiness for all Georgia public school students. The second number is a Climate rating. Schools are rated on a 1 to 5 scale on the Georgia School Climate Star ratings with “1” meaning “unsatisfactory” and “5” being “excellent.” The ratings are based on such factors as test scores, student discipline, attendance and student, parent and staff surveys. • The CCSD Class of 2018 posted

an average score of 1107 on the SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) which is 43 points higher than the state average and 39 points higher than the national average.

• More than 10,000 Cobb

students took the PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test). Cobb 10th and 11th graders scored higher than the national average.

• For the 13th straight year, Cobb

County School District students achieved record-high scores on the ACT college entrance exam. The Class of 2018’s average score of 22.8 is 2 points higher than the national average of 20.8 and is 1.4 points higher the state average of 21.4.

• The Cobb County School District

graduation rate rose to a new high of 85.2%, part of a seven year upward trend that once again surpasses the state average. The graduation rate for the class of 2018 increased by 1.6 percentage points from the previous year. The state graduation rate average is 81.6%.

This innovative care model enabled WellStar to put a greater emphasis on patient-centered care by bringing outpatient and physician services directly to the community. As a result, residents no longer have to endure long drive times, frustrating traffic congestion and multiple trips to different facilities to access health services. “Our community-based facilities have enhanced the patient experience by providing outpatient services, procedures and physician visits under one roof, all connected with one electronic medical record,” said Joe Brywczynski, senior vice president of WellStar Health Parks Administration & Development. “As residents continue searching for greater outpatient value and convenience, we believe having the choice to visit a nearby health park will provide the best option for patients living in the communities we serve.” Cobb County is home to all three existing WellStar Health Parks. WellStar Acworth Health Park opened in 2012, followed by WellStar East Cobb Health Park (2014) and WellStar Vinings Health Park (2017). To date, WellStar’s health parks have treated more than 2 million patients and have brought more than 700 new jobs to Cobb County. “WellStar pioneered the concept of health parks in Georgia, where consumers can receive outpatient services close to home,” said Kem Mullins, executive vice president of WellStar Health System. “Our three existing health parks have experienced tremendous growth since opening, demonstrating the value of bringing convenient, high-quality care to the community.” WellStar’s commitment to meet the growing demand for essential healthcare services in the communities it serves remains evident today. The health system opened an expanded Urgent Care Center in June 2018 at its Acworth Health Park and will open a new Outpatient Surgery Center in the same location in July 2019. With more than 100 patients visiting the urgent care center each day, the expansion has allowed for the recruitment of additional providers and staff to accommodate more patients with greater efficiency. The urgent care space features 13 patient rooms and includes two sub-waiting rooms, which are used for patients who have been seen or are waiting for test results, freeing up patient rooms and decreasing wait times. The one-level, 25,000 square foot multi-specialty outpatient surgery center will include 15 private, prep/recovery rooms, three operating room suites and three procedure rooms with space for future expansion. WellStar Cherokee Health Park at Holly Springs and WellStar Avalon Health Park, two additional health parks under construction, are scheduled to open in September 2019 and January 2020, respectively. Combined, the health parks are projected to treat almost 700,000 patients this year and will have a total of 950 WellStar team members working within WellStar’s health park network upon the opening of Cherokee and Avalon health parks. s one of the biggest cities in the metro Atlanta area and the biggest of Cobb County, Marietta provides some of the best attractions and entertainment to be found in the area and even in the Southeast U.S. The best place to find entertainment in Marietta is downtown. The Marietta Welcome Center is a great place to stop first if visiting the community. The Center provides abundant information and also offers interesting tours, including the Historic Marietta Self Guided Walking/Driving Tour, the Marietta Pilgrimage Christmas Home Tour, and the Yellow Rose Carriage Service. Other tours in Marietta are the Ghosts of Marietta Tour, which is especially fun around Halloween, and the Historic Marietta Trolley tour. There are also several museums which portray everything you need to know about the City and its history, with the Marietta

Fire Museum, the Marietta Gone with the Wind Museum, Scarlett on the Square, the Marietta Museum of History, the Old Zion Baptist Church Heritage Museum and the Root House Museum. Marietta is also home to the Earl Smith Strand Theatre and the Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art. Probably one of the most unique and entertaining aspects of downtown Marietta is the Theatre in the Square.

Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History

For family fun, Cobb is home to Six Flags White Water Park. The park holds 50 attractions, with rides, one of the worldâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s tallest free-falls, a water park and constant special events. Obviously one of the biggest venues for entertainment in the Southeast, Six Flags provides a great time for any age.

PARKS & HISTORICAL LANDMARKS

obb County boasts some of the most pristine parks and scenic landscapes in Georgia. With dozens of parks ranging in size from small neighborhood playgrounds to vast forest areas full of trails and sports fields, there is more than enough space to play, relax or just enjoy the beauty of the county. The parks in the county provide numerous outdoor activities, from ball fields, recreational facilities, basketball and tennis courts, benches and grills to playgrounds, gazebos, gardens and dog-friendly locations. Some of the parks within Cobb reside along the Chattahoochee River, a National Recreation Area in Georgia. The river can be used for its relaxing beaches, kayaking, rafting or fishing. There are also many beaches along lakes as well, such as those found on Lake Acworth that offer volleyball courts and picnic pavilions. Cobb County is also rich with history, which has been preserved through various museums, community centers, parks, and historic cemeteries. Because much of Cobb County was first settled around train depots, many museums honor the history of their cityâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s roots. Kennesaw holds the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History, while Smyrna contains the Trolley Line Park as well as the Smyrna Museum and Train Depot. You can also find many of the first settlers in the cities within the national cemeteries, such as the Marietta Confederate Cemetery or the Smyrna Memorial Cemetery. Pitner Road Dog Park 2450 Pitner Road Acworth The Pitner Road Dog Park is comprised of two adjoining but separatelyfenced play areas for off-leash dogs with approximately 2 acres of space for larger and one acre of space for smaller dogs. The dog lots have both open-space and shady, wooded areas with benched seating for dog owners. Each area has dog water fountains and “poop-mit” stations providing bags for owners to pick up after their pets. A gravel access road and parking lot with 50 parking spaces. A combination picnic shelter and restroom building (presently with four picnic tables) sits on a rise and overlooks the playground and dog lots. A multifunction playground for children ages 2 to 12 is between the picnic shelter and the dog lots and can be easily seen from the seating areas of both locations. LEISURE & RECREATION MUSEUMS & PUBLIC HISTORIC SITES 19th Century Village Located on the Life University campus in Marietta, this recreated pioneer village contains relocated log structures dating back to the 1700s. The site is open dawn to dusk. Cabins are open on special occasions.

Austell Museum This museum is located inside the historic Coats and Clark Threadmill Complex in Clarkdale, one of the last planned communities built in Georgia.

Berlin Wall You can visit a section of the Berlin Wall without leaving Cobb County. The piece is on loan to Kennesaw State University by Senator Chuck Clay, grandson of Marietta's Lucius D. Clay, who served as Military Governor of Germany between 1945 and 1949.

Brumby Hall and Gardens Constructed in 1851, Brumby Hall was the home of Colonel Arnoldus V. Brumby, the first superintendent of the Georgia Military Institute. It was the only building at the Georgia Military Institute campus to survive the Civil War.

Concord Covered Bridge Built in 1872, this is the only covered bridge still in use on a public highway in the metropolitan Atlanta area.

Georgia Military Institute Hilton Atlanta/Marietta Hotel & Conference Center The Georgia Military Institute (GMI) was established in Marietta on July 1, 1851, and was destroyed by Union troops during the Civil War. Today the site is occupied by the Hilton Atlanta/Marietta Hotel & Conference Center, which features murals of GMI as well as original artifacts from the Institute.

The Georgia Room Located in the Switzer Library (formerly known as the Central Library), this collection focuses on the history of Cobb

County and Georgia, with an emphasis on genealogical and historical materials relating to the southeastern United States. Local history collections include church histories, state and county histories, personal narratives, diaries and letters.

Green Plantation Constructed in the 1840s, the GreenBullard House was used as a field hospital by Confederate forces during the Civil War. Today, the property is owned by Cobb County and is operated as community garden and multipurpose park.

Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park This 2,965 acre park preserves a Civil War battleground of the Atlanta Campaign. The park museum explores the military, civilian, medical, and communication aspects of the Atlanta Campaign.

Leonidas Polk Monument Located on the side of the road atop Pine Mountain, this 20-foot marble obelisk was erected â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;In Memory of Lieut. Gen. Leonidas Polk, who fell on this spot June 14, 1864.' The remains of earthworks are visible near the monument, which was erected in 1902.

Lost Mountain Store This 1881 country store was rehabilitated in 1996 and is now home to a local financial institution. Reclaimed wood from the store counters and shelves was used to create the bank counter and conference room table. The original store sign, artifacts and memorabilia are on display in a mini exhibit.

Mable House Constructed in the 1840s, the Mable house was used as a field hospital by Federal troops during the Civil War. Today, the house is operated as part of the Cobb County Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department.

Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art Located in Marietta's historic 1905 Post Office, the museum features special exhibitions throughout the year. Tours, lectures, classes, art camp and other educational, social, and cultural opportunities are also offered.

Marietta Fire Museum This museum displays items used by the Marietta Fire Department dating back to the 1800s, including fire service clothing, equipment and antique apparatus.

Marietta Gone With The Wind Museum Located in the historic Thomas Warehouse building, this museum is sure to delight and intrigue every Gone With the Wind fan.

Marietta Museum of History Located in a historic mid-1800s hotel building, the Marietta Museum of History is dedicated to preserving the history of Marietta and Cobb County.

Marietta National Cemetery The site of Marietta's National Cemetery was donated to the federal government by Henry Greene Cole, an innkeeper and Union sympathizer, in 1866. Today the cemetery contains more than 17,000 remains.

Museum of History and Holocaust Education Located at Kennesaw State University, this museum focuses on the Holocaust and WWII, with an emphasis on its affect on Georgia. Admission is free.

Old Zion Heritage Museum The "Old" Zion Baptist Church was organized by former slaves in 1866. Today, the historic church houses artifacts and photos about Cobb County's African American history.

Paper Mill Ruins at Sope Creek Built in 1855, the Marietta Paper Mill produced paper for Confederate currency

LEISURE & RECREATION and bonds during the Civil War. The mill was destroyed by Union troops in 1864. Today the ruins are part of Sope Creek Park, one of many parks that make up the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area.

Seven Springs Museum This museum houses a unique collection of artifacts and photographs chronicling the history of Powder Springs. The museum recently opened in the newly restored Bodiford House.

Shoupade Park Owned by Cobb County, this 1-acre Civil War Battlefield Park features two shoupade forts separated by a 2 gun artillery redan.

Smith-Gilbert Gardens At the center of Smith-Gilbert Gardens is the historic Hiram Butler House, dating back to the 1880s. The house was once owned by Mr. Butler, a Confederate railroad man who was present during the “Great Locomotive Chase.” With a variety of plantings and 31 sculptures, Smith-Gilbert Gardens has something for everyone.

Southern Museum of Civil War & Locomotive History A prestigious Smithsonian Affiliations member, the Southern Museum is home to the General locomotive, an impressive Civil War collection, and the Glover Machine Works factory.

Vinings Historic Preservation Society The Society seeks to preserve the historic spirit and structures of Vinings, educate the public about local history, and to engage in community preservation activities. The Society owns and operates the historic Pace House, Yarbrough House, and the Old Pavilion.

William Root House Museum and Garden The 1840s Root House is an accurate portrayal of middle-class life in antebellum Marietta. The flagship of Cobb Landmarks, it is one of the oldest structures in Marietta and hosts visitors year round.
