BSK students visit Discovery Zone at Scientific Centre

Y

ear 2 at The British School of Kuwait went in search of electricity and found lots of it at the Discovery Zone. In line with the National Curriculum for England and Wales children had been looking at electricity and how it is used. They looked at mains and battery operated appliances and mar-

veled when they were able to make a circuit that resulted in bulb lighting. Children did not stop there and they continued experimenting adding buzzers, motors and switches. All sorts of weird and wonderful circuits were made. The trip to the Discovery Zone

enhanced the classroom based experimentation, as students were able to experience a myriad of different interactive electric appliances. Children generated their own electrical power by sheer hard work turning a handle and they were confidently building circuits with a wide variety of components. Whilst all

this learning was taking place, children were reminded about the importance of safety when working with electricity. A wonderful session was had by all, with students queuing up to see who had the steadiest hand and could pass the metal loop along a tricky path without the buzzer going off.
