LOCAL Al-Omair selected as Salaf candidate By A Saleh KUWAIT: Prominent clergymen at the Islamic Salaf gathering have selected MP Ali Al-Omair as their candidate in the upcoming elections, and discussed others who have yet to be chosen. Sources said decision makers are in agreement over the nomination of Al-Omair in the third constituency, but in the second, held by MPs Khalid AlSultan and Abdellatif Al-Amiri, the issue will be decided during upcoming meetings, as there are several Salafis wishing to run for parliament, especially as those present said the current MPs’ performance was not satisfactory. Meanwhile, a parliamentary source denied what MP Mubarak Al-Waalan had said, claiming the parliamentary majority agreed not to accept any member who participates in tribal bi-elections. The source said they had not agreed nor discussed it, and those are just wishes by some members. He said what is agreed upon by the majority is to support its current members, but some of them will not run for office without bi-elections, otherwise they will lose. Member of Parliament Salwa Al-Jassar found it strange that some members of the 2009 assembly are still enjoying its advantages. She said some MPs are claiming that the 2009 assembly is shameful and a disgrace, so would it not be better for them to no longer enjoy the facilities of this assembly, such as transactions, cars, offices, sectaries and allowances? MP Dr Salwa Al-Jassar said she will not continue to teach at Kuwait University following the ruling of the constitutional court that cancelled the decree that dissolved the 2009 assembly, meaning the MP cannot hold two jobs at the same time. On the other hand, informed sources said the central department for dealing with illegal residents received information from Iraqi authorities about persons claiming that they are bedouins in Kuwait. The sources said this information is part of the cooperation Kuwait asked from Iraq to find the truth behind information about bedouins of Iraqi origin, and claim they do not have any documents from Iraq or anywhere else. The sources said the information received by the central department proves that those named are Iraqis, and that the documents about them are not forged, but in fact reveals that the information these individuals provided were, in fact, forged. Also, member of the annulled 2012 assembly, lawyer Osama Al-Munawer, said that the Arkan region in Burma is a new scar in the Muslim national body and is becoming larger, without any move from Muslim countries nor others who “may be conspiring against Muslims.” He praised the statement by Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry about the situation with Muslims in Burma, but said “we are waiting for cutting relations with that country and asking the Security Council to discuss the issue.”

Youth activists agree on crisis, vary on solutions Political arena requires utmost care KUWAIT: Youth representatives within various active political blocs and movements have agreed that the local political arena requires the utmost care and attention from all concerned parties. They also agreed on respecting the judiciary’s recent verdict to annul the 2012 parliament and other principles while they voiced different opinions concerning how to deal with various political problems. NAHJ member, lawyer Mo’ath AlDuwailah, justified his movement’s participation in the determination yard demonstrations by what he described as a political deadlock and uninspiring movements calling for the same results by different people. Al-Duwailah criticized calls for having a ‘constitutional Emirate’, noting that Kuwait was already a constitutional Emirate. He also denied that a public government was the main demand at the yard and said that it was only suggested by some demonstrating MPs. ‘We cannot summarize two hours of demonstrations into 60 seconds during which

an MP made a remark...while many other seminars included more slander. Commenting on the constitutional court ruling, Al-Duwaliah stressed that it should be respected by everybody. He also slammed criticisms and accusations of treason directed at NAHJ. “Those who have anything against us can go to the public prosecutor, otherwise, let them..... stick to their homes!”, he stressed. For his part, representative of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), political activist Othman Al-Othman, stressed that the main reason behind the political tension was the ruling family members’ conflicts that were manifested by referring to the grilling motions of the constitutional court. He also refused to accuse NDA of favoring its own gains and making deals with the government. Further, activist Hamad Alyan refused to consider any solutions to the political crisis while officials’ statements were still contradicting each other. He also called for respecting judicial verdicts, though he thought that, compared to the short period in office, 2012 had seen many

achievements. For his part, political activist Abdullah Zaman opposed the current public movements at the determination yard, noting that demands raised at the yard have been twisted according to some participants’ interests. Meanwhile, parliament sources said that a number of 2012 council members are making consultations to meet the HH Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al Mubarak during the coming few days to discuss rumors of amending number of constituency law. The expected meeting will be held to determine whether the government has a real intention to change the law. Sources said that experts’ declarations about the possibility of making a contest in the next council, if elections were carried under the current law, has encouraged the majority group members to expand the discussions of the subject . Sources added that those who are seeking the meeting are the majority group members, pointing out that discussions were held about scheduling the meeting, which will include large num-

ber of MPs to check the “vision” for the next period, noting that the declaration of Minister of Information Sheikh Mohammad Al Abdullah is a matter of his personal opinion. He did not emphasize, but doubted that the amendment shall not come in that period. Sources said the government has several studies about the subject of the number of constituencies. In this direction, members of the majority group said they have already begun necessary preparations for elections through compiling necessary lists and the necessary coordination for running the elections. Consultations are going on very fast and led by unlimited numbers of majority group members to ensure the required results for the group. In the opposite direction, sources said that the minority group in the 2012 council are making necessary consultations for coordination in the coming elections to ensure that their numbers increase by creating allies and new nominees for election who had serious chances of winning in the last elections.

Most departments including general registration and medical stores and others are suffering from a dearth in vehicles to transport mail, pharmaceuticals, vaccinations and other materials. This is in addition to a shortage of vehicles in Ahmadi to transport sterilization materials from central medical store to hospitals and

health centers in the area. Several nurses have to leave their jobs and collect the materials and distribute it, making them prone to accidents and health problems. Also, sources have revealed that the Ministry of Health(MoH) has asked central medical stores to provide vehicles with cooling facility that ply to all the areas so that vaccinations can be supplied to schools. — Al-Anba

Illegal donation collection before Ramadan KUWAIT: Even before the advent of the month of Ramadan, cash donations have begun pouring in. Sources at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor (MSAL) said that this phenomenon is noticeable in a number of mosques. Sources said that subject will be discussed with the concerned administration at the ministry, and the Ministry of Awqaf. It

will be asked to take necessary action. Sources urged citizens and expats not to deal with unauthorized donation collectors and limit their donations to the centers registered with the Ministry of Social Affairs. Any violation should be noted, sources warned. Making cold calls over the phone and sending representatives to homes and work places violate the charity law. — Al-Anbaa
