A Park for Pedestrians

Pedestrian Underpass at Ngurah Rai Monument at Bali Airport Set to Open in Early 2015 Plans are moving ahead to build a pedestrian underpass at the Ngurah Rai Statue located near the entrance to Bali's Ngrah Rai International Airport. A pet project of regent A.A. Gde Agung, the underpass will make Continued from front page The new regulations require hotels in the densely developed areas of Kuta to have a plot of no less that one-half hectare (50 are or 5,000 square meters). For projects planned in North Kuta the minimum project site increases to threequarters of a hectare (75 ares or 7,500 square meters). Meanwhile,

the small park encircled by busy roads accessible to the public. According to an official website, the tendering process for the underpass commenced on July 24, 2014 and will at the end of August 2014. A contract to commence the project is scheduled for signing onSeptember 3, 2014. The pedestrian underpass at the Ngurah Rai Statue will be slightly smaller than a similar underpass planned at the Dewi Ruci Monument.

The underpass near the airport will open in early 2015. The walls of the underpass will include a diorama depicting the military battles of Ngurah Rai in the struggle for national independence. His likeness depicted on the Rp. 50,0000 bill, I Gusti Ngurah Rai died at the age of 29 on November 20, 1946 in the battle of Margarana (Bali) in the national struggle for independence from Dutch colonial rule. www.balidiscovery.com

in South Kuta the minimal lot size for a hotel is one-hectare. The new rules came into force on August 1, 2014, but will not apply retroactively to hotels or projects already in operation or in possession of a building permit. The same regulation strengthens existing rules on minimum coefficients for open gardens and minimal parking

spaces . The Bandung Regency's record on enforcement against hotels violating zoning and building codes is poor with at least one branded hotel operating in Kuta without a building permit or an operating license.

BALI THE RIGHT WAY Gday again folks and welcome to the weekly for another run. This week saw the end of the A.F.L footy season for my Mighty Pies as they were out classed by the Hawks on Friday night. A few teams went on holidays this week, but I think the biggest win was for the Tigers against Sydney. What a great game and it should be a ripper finals series. One thing is the tipping is all done now so no more rushing to get the tips in before the first bounce each week. What aliasj@kutaweekly.com this also means is the tipping parties are about to begin with arguably the best one being held each year at the Kuta Town houses. I find it strange that as an expat you would actually miss this shin dig. The powers that be put on the best feed I have ever eaten at a party with the bar being open and flowing for as long as you want to stay. Im not sure when they are having it this year but I will let you all know as soon as the verdict has been given. One thing I do know and can tell you is that the Roof Top venue at Kuta Townhouses is putting on a big Grand Final Day Party. They are opening the bar and I mean “FULLY OPENING THE BAR” and that's including all the good stuff along with the all you can eat Brazillian Aussie BBQ. They have scored one of the biggest television screens on the island for the venue, so all the action can be watched live on the big screen. There will be door prizes, half time entertainment and lots of give aways on the day. Bali Moon and San Miguel are getting involved and will also be throwing a few free gifts around so should be a great day. There is a limited number of tickets available so Id say get in quick as they are selling fast. The event starts at about 11:30am and will run through until about 4.30pm so plenty of time to get a few quiet beers or red labels down. Adult tickets will be a milly per head on the day and 900k for pre paid tickets. Kids tickets for ages 5yrs -17yrs are a bargain at 200k (no alcohol) and no Mr Steve, you are not a kid anymore and all Collingwood supporters will be charged double. Tickets are now available from the Kuta Townhouse reception or by giving the event organizer a call. Check out the advert on page 13 and we will see you on the day.

Plain Spoken about Tourism President-elect Joko Widodo Speaks to Bali About Tourism Keeping a campaign promise to visit the Island of Bali as his first visit once he was formally confirmed at President of the Republic, Joko Widodo traveled to Bali to meet with outgoing President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and discuss the transition of power. After the one-on-one meeting between the President and President-elect, Joko Widodo made a short speech in from the Bung Karno Museum in Renon, downtown Denpasar on Saturday, August 30, 2014. A s r e p o r t e d b y Beritadewata.com, Joko Widodo reminded an audience composed or community leaders, culture expert and politicians that Bali tourism must remain “Number

must receive the number one tourists.” Joko Widodo also plead for tourism not to undertake acts that damage the environment. “I have heard that South Bali is too crowded; too forced. Don't allow the environment to be destroyed just because we surrender too much land to tourism,' the President-elect warned. Joko Widodo warned that Bali's interesting culture alone in the absence of steps to preserve the destination's natural beauty will not be enough sustain Bali into the future. Moving along, and on a final note I must say last Friday night at the Crusoes pressure hour I believe I saw the funniest thing I have ever seen in my many years being on this island, when a punter hell bent on drinking the bar dry in the hour, misjudged just how much he needed to take a leak, and ended up trying to use one of the pot plants, but while stepping into relieve himself, he has misfooted and tumbled head long into the wall with the pot and plant topling on him, then while laying there in the mess, he has lost all bladder control and let rip in his pants. I think the rest of us actually pissed ourselves laughing so the hour was extended just to see a few more mugs pay the price. If you haven't had a chance to get down to Crusoes for the Friday arvy pressure hour Id say do yourself a favour and give it a try. The fact that there are no longer any pot plants in the front section aside, it is a great place to catch up with friends and an even better way of starting your weekend. Thanks for the support Crusoes. Ok folks that's about my lot for the week and I trust that the most of you stay safe, happy, healthy and always try your very best to remember, I believe that if life gives you lemons, you should make lemonade... and try to find somebody whose life has given them vodka, and have a party. Enjoy Your Week, ALIASJ….. 4

Gypsy at the Wheel Widespread Violation of Laws on Taxi Meter Use Damaging the Reputation of Bali as a Tourism Destination Bisnis Bali recently presented a page-one review of the state of metered taxi service in Bali and the negative impact the poor behavior of taxi drivers is having on the Island's reputation as a tourist destination. The report alleges that many drivers refuse to use tax meters, preferring negotiated fares imposed on unsuspecting visitors. When passengers adamantly insist on the meter being used, many drivers will take retaliate by taking circuitous routes to ensure the highest possible fare.. At the end of a tax ride, according to Bisnis Bali, taxi drivers retaliate further by feigning an inability to make change, upping the fare even more. The director of the Consumer Protection Agency in Bali (YLPK-Bali), I Putu Armaya, explained the term "argo tembak" is used to describe the refusal of tax drivers in Bali to engage a taximeter, favoring instead to negotiate a more lucrative price directly with the customer. A recent survey conducted among passengers at Bali's

Ngurah Rai Airport revealed widespread disaffection with taxi service to and from the airport, specifically mentioning the practice of "argo tembak" and the resulting victimization of Island visitors. Armaya said: "Until now, there are many taxis refusing to use their meters. This requires firm action." The use of taximeters is under the supervision of the Bali Transportation Office that has it within their statutory power to jail drivers and revokes the operating licenses of taxi companies refusing to use taximeters in the transport of their passengers. Joining Armaya in condemning the failure of many operators to use taximeters is Eddy Dharma Putra of the Bali To u r i s t T r a n s p o r t a t i o n Organization (Organda), who shares the view that the

unprincipled behavior of taxi companies and their drivers is damaging the reputation of Bali. In response to these c o m p l a i n t s , Wa y a n P a n d e Sudirtha, the chairman of Koptax (Taxi Cooperative) at the airport, blames taxi customers citing them as the party requesting that requesting negotiated instead of metered taxi rides. Sudirtha also contends that the negotiated price offered by taxi drivers is oftentimes less than the fare would be if the meter were used. Sudirtha claims traffic congestion in Bali can often result in high metered taxi fares that are substantially more than whatt might be agreed beforehand directly with the driver. Sudirtha. nonetheless, insisted that sanctions are still imposed on drivers proven to be refusing to use official meters. The official metered tax rate in Bali is Rp. 6,000 (US$0.52) on flag fall and Rp, 5,700 (US$0.50) per kilometer of distance traveled. Pande complained that the 907 taxis registered in his cooperative enjoy very limited incomes.

Stark Beer - a World Class Beer Produced in a Modern Brewery on Bali's North Coast First established as a microbrewery in 2011, Stark Beer is the first wheat beer produced in Indonesia entirely from natural product without preservatives - an

additive cited as the cause of "hangovers" in other beers. Produced with pure spring water that undergoes three rigorous filtrations that retains the natural minerals while removing any bacteria and toxic elements. Stark Beer is produced in Singaraja, North Bali at a modern state-of-the-art brewery in a refrigerated environment. In the few intervening years, Stark Beer has grown to a medium-sized brewery with a growing reputation for the high quality of its wheat, dark wheat and low-carbohydrate beers, Speaking to Bali Post, general manager of Stark Beer, Raimund Norbert Mester, said that most ingredients for making his brews are still imported from abroad and mixed with the highest-quality local spring water to produce a distinctive and

aromatic beer for the Indonesian market. The low-carbohydrate beer produced by Stark Beer uses a high-technology method that manages to reduce sugars while still retaining a 5% alcohol content in the final product. Mester boasts the finished product - a white beer using special grains and yeast imported from Belgium - is rich in vitamins and half as fattening as competing beers. Sharing a production secret, Mester said the wheat beer produced by Stark Beer uses local coriander that give the beer a taste with a hint of a Balinese orange. Meanwhile the dark wheat beer - a German-style brew - has a color resembling a ruby bestowed through the marriage of wheat, malt and caramel. www.balidiscovery.com

In Urgent Need of Connections PLTU Celukan Bawang Aiming to Start Producing Electrical Power for Bali in December 2014 - a Year Behind Schedule The coal-driven steam powered electrical generation plant at Celukan Bawang (PLTU Celukan Bawang) in North Bali continues to be plagued by delays with investors now targeting electrical production to commence in December 2014 - more than a year behind schedule. There a variety of reasons cited for the delay, including technical delays at the construction site and delays in the construction of a high voltage power lines. Egon Wisjnu of PT General Energy Bali the first phase of active operations by PLTU Celukan Bawang in December will add 142 megawatts to the Bali power supply with phase two and three adding a further 142 megawatts to the system in January-February 2015. The project being constructed by PT General Energy Bali (GBE) and China

10

Hundian Engineering Corporation (CHEC) is now estimated to be 75% completed. Wisnju explained: "If we see our contract with PLN, indeed the operation of the plant has been postponed a little. We are now striving to finish the physical construction of the power plant and targeting operations to start in December 2014 and completed in phases two and three in January-February 2015." He said the delay in constructing high-voltage power lines caused by the refusal of many local citizens to allow highpower lines to be placed over their lands at Celukan Bawang. Wisnju confirmed that the PLTU Celukan Bawang was largely

ready to go with generators and fuel tanks already installed, and ready for commissioning. Wisnju added: "I don't want to fault PLN because we understand the problem of building the high-voltage power line network is not yet completed. But this is one factor why we cannot quickly start operations. If the network of PLN is completed, the production of electrical power can commence." In addition to the failure to complete the high-voltage power lines leading into the PLTU Celeukan Bawang, PLN is also unable at this time to provide the 20 kilovolts of power needed for the new plant in North Bali to undertake operational testing prior ro full commissioning. GEB and PLN are currently in discussions to find a solution on the inability to supply the 20 kilovolts of power in order that operations at PLTU Celukan Bawang can commence in December. www.balidiscovery.com

Woodward, who played 13 regular season games for Box Hill, polled 20 votes to pip North Melbourne and North Ballarat ballwinner Liam Anthony (17). Woodward polled in nine matches and was named best on ground four times, averaging 23 disposals and six tackles during the regular season. His form warranted his AFL debut in Round 18. The trophy is a just reward for the 21-year-old, whose career

has been plagued by injuries including two knee reconstructions. Drew Petrie says Kangaroos looking forward to taking on Essendon at MCG in elimination final NORTH Melbourne veteran Drew Petrie says a lack of MCG experience will not count against his side in Saturday night's elimination final against Essendon. The Kangaroos have played just twice at the home of football this season — losing to Collingwood by 35 points in Round 5 and defeating Melbourne by 41 in Round 14. While conceding that playing on the 'G does pose different dilemmas as compared to the Roos' home ground of Etihad Stadium, Petrie said he didn't see that as an important factor leading in to the weekend's game. “I think we're all pretty happy to be playing at the 'G this week,” Petrie said. “It's the home of footy, it's where the big dance is in four weeks time. So — hopefully we'll get a win this week, get some practice there — there's nothing better than running out on to the MCG in front of 70,000 people so I'm looking forward to that on Saturday night.” North has played just six games at the MCG in the past four seasons, winning three, as opposed to Etihad Stadium where it has played 51 games in four seasons for 33 wins.

“The dimensions are bigger, there's more space and requires more running,” Petrie said of the MCG. “And obviously just being an outdoor stadium it demands your skill level to be up and better than it is when you're playing under the roof. “I don't think it's going to favour either side, but it's certainly different than playing at Etihad.” Having made the shift from St Kilda last offseason, Nick Dal Santo said featuring in September again made the move all the more worthwhile. “In regards to playing finals, absolutely,” Dal Santo said. “It's been a long year, this is what we've all been working towards and it's finally here. “It's been coming for a little while, you go through that winter period where it's a little bit tough from weekto-week, but it's really exciting now not only for me but the whole footy club. “I'm really looking forward to the weekend.” North Melbourne players completed a light training session indoors on Tuesday morning ahead of their main session of the week at Arden Street on Wednesday afternoon.

Wallabies coach Ewen McKenzie names squad for Test with Springboks in Perth WARATAHS halves Nick Phipps and Bernard Foley have been promoted into the Wallabies starting side for Saturday night's Te s t a g a i n s t t h e Springboks in Perth. Wallabies coach Ewen M c K e n z i e o n Tu e s d a y unveiled Foley and Phipps as two of four changes to his starting side for the Patersons Stadium clash with James Hanson's inclusion at hooker the only fresh face in the pack. The Reds rake is Australia's fourth-string hooker with Nathan Charles joining Stephen Moore and Tatafu Polota-Nau on the injured list following the Wallabies' disastrous 51-20 loss to the All Blacks in Bledisloe II. Saturday night's match will also see Tevita Kuridrani return at outside centre with Adam AshleyCooper shifting to the wing after Pat McCabe's injury-forced retirement. But the biggest talking point is Foley's inclusion at No.10 with McKenzie reverting to the 10-12 combination – with Matt Toomua at inside centre – that was so successful against France in June.

Nic White and Kurtley Beale drop back to the bench after starting both Bledisloe encounters. McKenzie said the selection of the Waratahs halves would give the Wallabies the best chance of beating the Springboks. “While the size of the challenge isn't any easier this week, the South Africans do play a unique brand of rugby which we will need to adjust to,” McKenzie said. “That's reflected in our selections somewhat, where we feel the partnership of Nick and Bernard will best suit the style of game we'll be trying to play. “They've got a proven combination at a Super Rugby level and we look forward to seeing how that translates into the Test environment.

“It's naturally disappointing for the two guys who missed out on the starting team in Nic and Kurtley, but the reality is we have a lot of good players in those playmaking positions. “We expect them to respond in a positive manner and to make an impact playing an important role in how we close out the match.” There are some changes on the bench as well with Saia Faingaa, James Horwill and Matt Hodgson all included in a six-two split. Needing to combat the Springboks' physicality in the forwards, McKenzie has opted for just two backline reserves in White and Beale. Full squad: (15-1) Israel Folau, Adam Ashley-Cooper, Tevita Kuridrani, Matt Toomua, Rob Horne, Bernard Foley, Nick Phipps, Wycliff Palu, Michael Hooper, Scott Fardy, Rob Simmons, Sam Carter, Sekope Kepu, James Hanson, James Slipper. Res: Saia Faingaa, Pek Cowan, Ben Alexander, James Horwill, Scott Higginbotham, Matt Hodgson, Nic White, Kurtley Beale.

“What a find! 19 August 2014 After reading the reviews on TA, we set out to find this restaurant as I was hankering for a good curry. After checking the map it wasn't hard to find and we are very glad we found it. This place has only been operating for 8 months and at the moment their menu is a little limited but after enquiring about the heat of one of their advertised dishes, the manager kindly said they could do a vindaloo or madras version of that dish if I wanted. He said they will be gradually increasing their menu options and are in the process of organising wine to add to the beer they currently serve. (I cheekily suggested they stay away from the Hattens!). The service was very friendly and they were helpful in describing some of the appetisers which I hadn't seen in Australia. We really enjoyed the food and they catered to our (heat) tastes (I like mine spicy). The restaurant decor is very contemporary and, very importantly, the toilets are clean! I would definitely recommend this little gem, it can only get better. 18 August 2014 Good choices , beautiful flavours, cold beer, very clean, friendly and attentive staff, looks very small from outside but plenty of room inside . Good value for money .Aalo Gobhi is superb . Will definitely go back.

Ahead of this weekend's Italian Grand Prix, Ricciardo has been awarded this year's Trofeo Lorenzo Bandini in recognition of his speed, his on-track achievements, and his approach to the sport. The honour roll of previous winners reads like a list of the sport's modern greats, with Michael Schumacher, Fernando Alonso, Kimi Raikkonen and Ricciardo's Red Bull teammate Sebastian Vettel all previous recipients. He was presented with the trophy in the main square of Bandini's home town of Brisighella in the north of Italy, a stone's throw from the headquarters of Ricciardo's old Scuderia Toro Rosso team at Faenza. Hundreds of fans filled the square for the ceremony, where Ricciardo's arrival was heralded by a band of drummers and trumpeters dressed in full medieval costume, along with knights dressed in full chain mail and armour. “I was quite overwhelmed with the reception I received at the event. The Italians really love their motorsport,” Ricciardo said. “To be awarded with the Lorenzo Bandini trophy was an honour and to join the many great drivers on that

list makes me proud.” The award is named after Lorenzo Bandini, Italy's great Formula 1 hope of the 1960s. Bandini was a Ferrari driver through and through, rising through the ranks to become the team leader of the Maranello marque. An F1 race winner, Bandini also tasted victory in the Le Mans 24 Hours and the legendary Targa Florio road race. His career was cut tragically short in 1967. A fiery crash late in the Monaco Grand Prix left him with third degree burns to over 70 per cent of his body. He would die three days later at just 31 years of age. His fighting spirit was held dear by his home town, who first presented the trophy to mark the 25th anniversary of Bandini's death, but is now awarded annually to figures within the sport as determined by a panel of judges. Ricciardo is the second Australian to be awarded the trophy, following in the footsteps of Mark Webber in 2006. After being presented with the trophy by the mayor of Brisighella and Bandini's surviving 80-year-old sister Gabriella, he was awarded a medal of the town of Ficarra, the little community in Sicily where Ricciardo's grandparents and father lived before emigrating to Australia.

Found in abdomen 36 years after pregnancy Doctors in India have removed the skeleton of a foetus that had been inside a woman for 36 years in what is believed to be the world's longest ectopic pregnancy. The woman, 60, became pregnant at the age of 24 but suffered a miscarriage because the foetus had been growing outside of her uterus. The woman, from a poor rural area of central India, was "terrified" of having surgery to remove the remains of the foetus at the time and instead sought medication for the pain at a local clinic. Although the pain gradually subsided, it returned years later and forced the woman to seek medical help at a hospital in western India. "She came to us complaining

of pain in the abdomen," Dr Murtaza Akhtar, head of surgery at the NKP Salve Institute of Medical Sciences in the city of Nagpur, said. Doctors felt a lump on the woman's lower right abdomen and feared it could be cancer but further tests and scans revealed a calcified mass. "Once we saw the scans, our first reaction was 'what are we dealing with?' It was actually a matured skeleton encapsulated in a calcified sac," Dr Akhtar said. "A 60-year-old woman with a foetus lying in her abdomen for 36 years is a medical marvel. It's something we had never heard about." The doctors searched medical literature and discovered a woman in Belgium who had retained the remains of a foetus for 18 years

A team of doctors successfully performed surgery to remove the mass. "She was shocked when she first got to know what had happened. But she is fine now and is recuperating," Dr Akhtar said.

Jokowi toughens stance on tourism development President-elect Joko Widodo has called for the tourism industry in Bali to develop in a sustainable manner so as not to damage the local environment or culture. “Bali must have a clear differentiation from other destinations. We must avoid damaging Bali in developing tourism,” said Jokowi. “Especially in the southern part of Bali, it is too crowded due to tourism development,” he added. Jokowi also expressed his appreciation for the traditional villages and temples in Bali, suggesting that they are key assets that must be conserved. “We must be cautious of clearing land to provide for space for further development of the t o u r i s m i n d u s t r y, ” J o k o w i concluded.

Indonesia eyes 12.7m tourist arrivals in 2019 Indonesia is aiming for higher growth in foreign tourism within the next five years as the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry has set a target of 12.7 million foreign visitors by 2019, a 25 percent increase from the estimated 9.5 million inbound tourists this year. That was according to the ministry's 2015-2019 National MidTerm Development Plan (RPJMN) draft, marketing director general Esthy Reko Astuti said. In the past five years, the number of tourists has increased 35 percent from 7 million in 2010 to an expected 9.5 million in 2014, according to data from the ministry. “Backed by this significant growth, we've decided to increase the growth in foreign tourist arrivals [in the next five years] from 20 percent in the previous RPJMN to 25 percent,”

The ministry will boost tourism promotion in Middle Eastern countries, as recent data shows that four member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) top the list of the fastest growing numbers of tourists arriving in the archipelago in the first four months of this year. Bahrain topped the list with 73.56 percent growth, followed by Saudi Arabia (54.42 percent), the United Arab Emirates (49.58 percent) and Egypt (38.07 percent).

Overall, foreign tourist arrivals in Indonesia grew 10.6 percent from January to April this year compared with the same period last year to 2.9 million tourists, according to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). “We have to generate more tourists from these countries because based on our experience, when a Middle Eastern airline opens direct flights to Indonesia, they tend to attract more outbound tourists from Indonesia rather than inbound tourists to Indonesia,” The seat capacity of foreign airlines that serve routes from Middle Eastern countries to Indonesia amounts to 52,994 seats per week, while that of Indonesian airlines amounts to 18,424 seats per week, based on data from stateowned airport operator Angkasa Pura II.

Indonesians are the Happiest People in the World In a survey conducted by Ipsos, a “global independent market research company”, Indonesia came out on top as the “happiest people in the world”. I don't place much faith in these kinds of polls, but it is nice to see Indonesia at the top of a table, instead of down the bottom in these kinds of surveys. If money cannot buy happiness, well this is certainly true in Indonesia, where there is a massive divide between rich and poor. At least next time someone asks why I want to live in Indonesia, I can say that they are the happiest people in the world. While many people have problems with money, trying just to survive from one day to the next, people will usually greet you with a smile. So what makes Indonesians happy? I don't know the exact reason, but if I had to come up with some reasons, I would say it comes down to: family, community, tolerance and religion. All of which of course are inter-connected.

Most Indonesians marry at a fairly young age and then don't waste any time having babies. Often the grand-parents take care of the kids, so the parents can work. There is no government welfare, so there is no choice but for families to take care of each other, even into old age. It is for this reason why couples try to have a lot of kids, so they can provide support later in life, when they become too old to work. There is a strong sense of community in Indonesia, wherever you go in the country. Around 60 per cent of the population live in villages, where they rely on agriculture for sustenance. The village is an extension of the family in itself, where everyone knows each other. Houses tend to be small, so people

The

Q

spend a great deal of time outside, where it is also cooler. With not a lot of entertainment options, people sit around and do what Indonesians love the most chatting. Maybe because people are happy to communicate openly, it is easier to solve problems. With Indonesian people living close together, I believe they are very tolerant of other people. If a neighbor is playing loud music, there is tendency to accept it, rather than openly complain about the noise. If you open a newspaper, of course you will find many examples of intolerance to other people, but I do believe that this is still a small minority. When I mention religion, I know many people will point out the many conflicts it creates, but the positive aspect that I believe it has, is that it brings people together, which relates back to community. Please tell me what you think, what do you think makes Indonesians the happiest people in world? Or is this survey inaccurate?

Is there such a thing as 'negative motivation'? It could be argued that an action that has been fuelled by negativity, anger or resentment is therefore negative or counterproductive. Yet, the person doing it believes what they're doing is positive and necessary, even if they themselves can see how it can be perceived as negative! This week, allow yourself to be motivated in the way you feel you are being motivated. You might have reason to question your reasons for following an urge but can trust that it intended to bring about a very positive outcome.

When something doesn't make sense and we want it to make sense, we find ways of attaching logic to that which appears illogical or nonsensical. We dismiss what doesn't 'add up' and focus instead on what we know is based on fact or holds some sense of reality. That, in itself, is sensible. With that in mind, look closely at the nonsensical situation you're trying to fathom this week. There is a grain of sensibility within it. Don't invest too much time focusing on what doesn't make sense. Look instead at what you know to be truthful and accurate.

Taurus Apr 21 - May 21

Scorpio Oct 24 - Nov 22

If you had a jury at your disposal and were able to explain your case clearly and honestly, how do you think a jury would respond? For some time, you have been aware of injustice in an area of your world and have, over time, likely convinced yourself that you were instrumental if not integral to causing it. That's why it would be helpful for you to receive an unbiased opinion. This week brings the delightful discovery that you don't have as much reason to be apologetic as you believed. Prepare to have your faith in justice restored.

Enthusiasm sells. Even the most negative and reticent person can find themselves 'buying into' or agreeing with someone who makes a point with enough enthusiasm. It's as if the enthusiastic person knows something the rest of us don't and manages to encourage us to take a quick glimpse into the world they are so enthusiastic about. This week, aggression will get you nowhere where making a point where winning someone over is concerned but heartfelt belief definitely will. Someone just wants to see for themselves how much you believe in what they need you to believe in.

Gemini May 22 - Jun 22

Sagittarius Nov 23 - Dec 21

Everyone has different pain thresholds. What might be agonizing to one person is a mild irritation to another. With that in mind, the coming week presents you with an interesting challenge. A situation can be painful or, with the right attitude, can be a positive development. If you're willing to see it as the latter, then the sky insists you'll see what transpires as mildly irritating and brief. There is no need to make it any more than that. Summon optimism and all will be fine.

There's something pictorial about us being described as 'captains of our own destinies'. We steer personal crafts through both choppy and still waters. We learn how to identify rocky shorelines from a distance. We also learn how to set sails to maximize help strong winds blowing in the right direction can provide. That's why it's important to recognize now how much control you do have in an area you might be feeling rudderless within. This week brings an opportunity to set sail in a very new direction.

Cancer Jun 23 - Jul 23 We are told 'he who hesitates is lost'. Sometimes, there's nothing wrong with hesitation, especially if we believe good reason exists to be cautious. As one of the most intuitive signs, you learned long ago to trust what your instincts tell you. This week, whilst it is undoubtedly worth heeding what they're telling you about a need to be cautious, avoid a tendency to become too cautious. A situation needs to move forward and you're superbly placed to make progress. Just don't allow reticence to replace proactivity. Be brave and take a much needed step forward.

'Whistle while you work'. Such was advice given by Snow White with the help of various forest-dwelling creatures. Whether or not we see certain tasks or obligations as enjoyable or downright depressing depends upon our attitude toward what we're undertaking. You have an option this week. You can smile and take on a duty or obligation that doesn't fill you with inspiration or allow yourself to become despondent and resentful. Do the former and you'll make light work of whatever it is. A small change in attitude will bring some impressive results.

Capricorn Dec 22 - Jan 20

Leo Jun 24 - Aug 23

Aquarius Jan 21 - Feb 19

The Cowardly Lion in 'The Wizard of Oz' was an expert at creating reasons not to do something. His reasons were always fuelled by fear. His ability to create reasons was so sharp that he probably scared himself knowing how good he was at creating them. We all create reasons not to do something if fear plays any part in the plan and, this week, you're being encouraged to face a fear and take a brave step forward in some way. Ignore any reasons you can identify for not doing something. Focus instead on the one major reason why you must.

We are sometimes easily persuaded by others. Much depends on how skilful they are at persuasion. If we're given a list of practical and believable reasons to do or not do something, then that's usually good enough for us. Things become more complex when we try to convince ourselves of something. We identify many reasons but will disregard what our conscience is telling us. It's your conscience – not someone else – that you need to be listening to this week. Trust the message your conscience and intuition are trying very hard to convey to you.

Virgo Aug 24 - Sep 23 Within gadget and appliance manuals is a 'troubleshooting' section. If something isn't working properly, then manufacturers often include a list of the most likely problems, what's causing them and what can be done to fix them. Wouldn't it be helpful if we had access to such manuals where people are concerned? You appear keen to put something right between you and another. To do this, you need to identify the problem correctly. This week offers a chance to identify and easily implement a solution. Someone needs careful handling but you can do a superb job of doing this.

Pisces Feb 20 - Mar 20 Some people will always see a half empty glass as half empty. They prefer to focus on what's missing than what they have available. Such people even overlook the fact that the situation would be even less desirable if they were dealing with a completely empty glass. With that in mind, how might you be looking at a seemingly less than desirable situation? This week brings a very good reason to start feeling optimistic if you're prepared to recognize it. Prepare to discover that a situation you believed to be cut and dried or set in stone is more flexible than you thought.

The following is a myth busting info page covering different songs or bands each week chosen by one of our many loyal readers, Please Enjoy…Bad Company “Feel Like Making Love”

Original Paul Rodgers era (1973–1982) There was a rumour that singer Paul Rodgers was so enamored with the Jeff Bridges film Bad Company that he chose to name his band after it, but Rodgers, in an interview with Spinner.com, explained that the idea came from a book of Victorian morals that showed a picture of an innocent kid looking up at an unsavory character leaning against a lamppost. The caption read "beware of bad company." Bad Company consisted of four seasoned musicians: two former members of Free, singer Paul Rodgers and drummer Simon Kirke; former Mott the Hoople guitarist Mick Ralphs; and ex-King Crimson bassist Boz Burrell. The band signed to Swan Song Records/Atlantic Records in North America, and with Island Records in other countries. (Island Records had until that time been the UK home to both Free and King Crimson, as well as to Mott the Hoople for their first four albums; Atlantic, in turn, released King Crimson's and Mott's early albums in the US through a licensing agreement with Island). Atlantic/Warner Music would later acquire the nonNorth American rights to the band's catalogue.

Run With the Pack was Bad Company's third platinumcertified album, reaching No. 5 on the Billboard chart and featured the cover song "Young Blood," which peaked at No. 20 on the Pop charts. Bad Company scheduled a British tour with the band of former Free member Paul Kossoff, Back Street Crawler, to support Bad Company's 1976 album Run With the Pack as well as a new album by Back Street Crawler.

This double headline tour was scheduled to commence on 25 April 1976 but was halted due to Kossoff's death on 19 March 1976. 1979's Desolation Angels did better than its predecessor, giving the band their latest Top 5 platinum-selling album. Desolation Angels also embellished the group's sound with synthesisers and strings. The album reached No. 3 on the Billboard charts and again had two charting singles: "Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy" at No. 13 and "Gone Gone Gone" at No. 56. "Feel Like Makin' Love" Baby, when I think about you, I think about love Darlin', don't live without you and your love If I had those golden dreams of my yesterdays I would wrap you in the Heaven 'til I'm dyin' on the way

A little surprised, the young man looked at him and said, "I make $400 a week. Why?" The CEO said, "Wait right here." He walked back to his office, came back in two minutes, and handed the guy $1,600 in cash and said, "Here's four weeks' pay. Now GET OUT and don't come back." investigate the screams, snidely suggesting Laksmana perhaps seeks advantage in the death of her beloved Rama. Insulted at Sita's insinuations, Laksmana departs the stage leaving Sita utterly alone in the forest. Scene 2 The evil King Rahwana appears, intent on kidnapping Sita. His initial attempts are unsuccessful causing him to transform himself into Bhagawan - an elderly man begging water from the Goddess Sita. When Site returns with the old man's water she is kidnapped by Rahwana still posing as the aged Bhagawan. Sita's screams for assistance are heard by the mythical Garuda bird flying nearby who responds by trying aid the captured Goddess. The Garuda's efforts to assist, however, are thwarted when Rahwana shoots the bird's wing with an arrow. The dastardly Rahwana then brings Sita to Alengka Pura - his personal palace. Scene 3 Meanwhile, Rama, his loyal servant and Laksmana have become lost in the forest of the Ayodya Palace. Longing for his beloved wife Sita, who is now in the palace of the evil Rahwana, Rama seeks the assistance of the White Monkey Hanoman to deliver his ring to the captive Sita as sign of their enduring love. Scene 4 Accompanied by the demoness niece of Rahwana, Trijata, Sita now spends her days lamenting the absence of her husband Rama. Later, at the Alengka Palace, the White Monkey Hanoman appears, declaring himself the Emissary of Prince Rama and presents Sita with the ring of her husband. Sita, in turn, presents flowers to Hanoman to be given to Rama, together with a message imploring for urgent rescue. Wasting no time, Hanoman wreaks havoc on the Alengka Palace, destroying much of Rahwana's princely estate. In retaliation, the guards of the palace capture Hanoman who is bound and prepared to be burnt at the stake. Calling on his considerable reserves of magical power, Hanoman escapes and rescues Sita to be returned to Rama.

The iconic Kecak dance, performed by large groups of shirtless men chanting in rhythmic counterpoint as other dances presents scenes from the ancient Mahabrata, is a staple of the Balinese dance repetroire that is enjoyed by thousands of Bali visitors each day. Performed by groups of tens or more men - oftentimes numbering as much as 150, each segment of the kecak is punctuated by choruses of chanted "cak...cak....cak" (pronounced as 'chak, chak, chak') . Dance aficionados in Bali argue endlessly that the haunting sounds of the kecak represents the sounds of an army of primates in the service of monkey-like warrior Vanara; duplicates the percussive sounds sounds of the drums and gongs of a gamelan orchestra (gamelan suara); imitates the sound of the household gecko lizard or, at its most basic level, draws its inspiration from the "cak" singing of farmers heard in the evening from roadside arak stands across Bali.. When we sat all these alternative descriptions before an aged Bali dance master, the old man scratched his chin and suggested that each explanation of the unique sound of the Kecak, considered individually or severally, might well be true. Not subject to debate is that the fact that Kecak dance presents a scene from the ancient Ramayana tale of the battle between good and evil within the context of the abduction of Sita and the ensuing battle by Vanara against the evil King Rahawana. Setting aside the hour or so to attend a Kecak dance during a Bali trip should form part of every visitors "must do" list. Village-based dance groups present dances on an almost daily basis across Bali, with one of the most popular presentations found at sunset each evening at the Uluwatu Temple in South Bali. Those contemplating taking in a kecak might find the follow plot synopsis useful in following the story line. Scene 1 Rama, Sita and Laksmana enter the dance area where the Kecak chorus of men, sitting in concentric circles have literally "set the stage" by singing a mesmerizing chanted prologue. As the three dancers circulate a golden deer appears, begging capture by Prince Rama. In pursuit of the golden deer, Rama leaves Sita and Laksmana alone on the dance floor. Suddenly a scream for "help" is heard, prompting SIta to
