BALI THE RIGHT WAY G’day again folks and welcome to the weekly for another run. It seems the last few weeks in the A.F.L tote has hotted up to the point that bloody Richmond have knocked the Mighty Pies out of the eight with only a few weeks to go before the finals series starts. The weekend just passed was a great weekend to kick back and watch footy with the Pies getting a good win and as much as I don’t want to admit it, so did Richmond. The weekend that is on the way has aliasj@kutaweekly.com drawn a few crappy games as in the Pies getting a do or die situation with the Hawks, and Richmond will definitely be doing some hard yards when they face Sydney on Saturday. At the end of the day the players are about as fit as they possibly can be which brings it down to team management and method. I hope the best teams win and the big cup goes to the best men this season. Ok folks, moving along this week I think there are a few new sponsors that need to be said hello to and thanked for jumping on board with us at the weekly, as without these people working with us, there simply put, would not be a decent newspaper for you to read each week. The first on the welcome list this week is “AP INN” or Agung Putra Hotel, which is a true Balinese hotel right in the heart of Poppies Lane One. Mr Agung has recently renovated the complex and if you want to stay somewhere that is about as Balinese as you can get, then you are at the right place. The “AP INN” has pools with a few bars and restaurants including a pro pool table with some of the best Balinese food on their menus going in the area. The “AP INN” is close to everything and is a real value rated hotel for the budget conscious traveller. You can get the contact details for the hotel on page 40 as the “AP INN” sponsors the ‘All About Bali’ page within our pages which each week highlights specific things that are happening or will be happening in Bali. The page covers cultural beliefs and happenings in a Hindu land. There is a more informative half page advert for the hotel on page 30. Again we thank Mr Agung for the support and trust that him and his management group ASANA, keep up the good work and look after all our readers when they are looking for a place to stay in the area.

Coming Bubble for Condotels in Bali? Bali to Soon Have 13,000 Condotel Units Bisnis Indonesia reports in its July 17, 2014 edition that developers of Condominium Hotels (Condotels) in Bali need to take into consideration the trend of declining occupancies being experienced by hotels. A study from the Research and Advisory division of Cushman & Wakefield Indonesia estimates there are currently 5,000 Condotel Units operating in Bali with an additional 8,000 Condotel units expected to come on line in the coming few years.

The study calculates that 29% of all Condotel units can be found in Legian and Seminyak, 24% in Jimbaran, 14% in Nusa Dua and the remaining 33% in other locations on the Island. Cushman & Waverly predicts that Condotel developers will be offering extra

points and other incentives to condotel purchasers, enhanced return on investment schemes and options for profit shares after tguarantee periods have ended. Condotel sales estimated at 93% of available unite may decline over the coming years due to robust development. To be watched with keen interest is the resale value of Bali's first generation of condotels to determine theses units true market value as an investment in an arguably oversupplied market. www.balidiscovery.com

Winning Combination Joko Widodo & Jusuf Kalla Declared Winners of Presidential-Vice Presidential Race by I n d o n e s i a n Constitutional Court On Thursday, August 21, 2014, the Indonesian Constitutional Court (MK) rejected challenges made to the results of the J u l y 9 t h presidential election made by Prabowo Subianto and Hatta Rajasa. Prabowo's defeat in both the polls and the election appeal process have cleared the way for Joko Widodo and Jusuf Kalla to assume, respectively, the presidency and vicepresidency of the Republic on October 20, 2014. The Court found the objections and anomalies cited by Prabowo's election team

insufficient to nullify the results of the poll or call a new election. Clashes were reported on the streets of Jakarta as the MK took six-hours to read their decision affirming Joko

Widodo's election. Dozens were sent to the hospital with minor injuries and for tear gas irritation. Bemoaning the quality of the election process, Prabowo Subianto has refused to offer a message of congratulation to Joko Widodo who is now officially declared to become

The Naked Festival of Japan

Joko Widodo has promised that his presidential cabinet will depart from the assortment of political hacks selected for their political party association rather than any professional expertise. To the delight of many, W i d o d o i s expected to a p p o i n t professionally qualified and highly skilled technocrats needed to achieve the ambitious development goals laid out by the new president. Many believe Joko Widodo's transition team is asking the outgoing administration to eliminate fuel subsidies and substantially increase fuel costs before the swearing in of the new government. Such a move, though politically unpopular, would free up large amounts of capital for much needed infrastructure projects.

It's the annual Hadaka Matsuri of Saidaiji Temple in Okayama, Japan. In case you're wondering, "hadaka" means "naked" and "matsuri" means "festival" so it's the "naked festival" even if most people appear to be wearing some kind of diaper. Some of the 9,000 men who took part in this year's Hadaka Matsuri at the Saidaiji Temple in Okayama, Japan, get ready for the festivities. It's called the "naked festival," but in reality no one actually gets completely naked. They wear these sumo style loin clothes aka diapers as they fight for lucky sticks tossed into the crowd of man flesh by the temple

priests. The men who get the sticks get lucky. I mean, they get to be called the "lucky men." They don't actually get lucky, as far as we know... but maybe they do. What I'm trying to say is, that's not necessarily a part of the festival itself. And it all happens in the middle of the night, according to the Japan Event Calendar. Men at

the Hadaka Matsuri at the Saidaiji Temple in Okayama, Japan get ready "purified" by the freezing cold Yoshii River before they do battle over lucky sticks. The sticks are just an inch and a half in diameter and nearly 8 inches long, and they're thrown into the crowd by a priest from a window 13 feet above the festivities. As the men climb all over each other to try to grab the sticks, they shout "Wasshoi! Wasshoi!" which is kind of like "heave-ho, heave-ho." Oh, and the lights are shut off as this happens AND the men are splashed with freezing cold water AND it takes place in the middle of winter when it's already pretty darned cold out.

Red Bull drivers explain Mercedes gap

DANIEL Ricciardo and Sebastian Vettel have tried to explain the massive gap between his third placed Red Bull and the two Mercedes on the front row of the grid for Sunday's Belgian Grand Prix. Ricciardo said Red Bull had set his car up for a dry race, expected on Saturday, not for the wet qualifying conditions experienced on Friday. Four-time world champion Vettel was 2.126 seconds adrift of pole-man Nico Rosberg and 1.898 seconds behind Lewis Hamilton.

“The reason we're behind is fairly simple,” said Vettel. “We know we are down on power. Mercedes can run a bit more wing level, they have more downforce and can still take that wing on the straight — it's the reason. “Hopefully tomorrow in the race, we will be closer in race pace and closer than the last couple of races.” Ricciardo, who qualified fifth, said Red Bull had run a dry setup in qualifying because it could not afford to compromise straight-line speed with extra downforce. The Australian said: “We've set the car up for a dry race so, even though we're typically quite strong in the wet, we knew that our setup would bring us down to the level of some guys around us. “The gap to Mercedes was pretty big. We thought we'd be able to close it up a bit in the wet. They were quick straight away, and it hurts a little bit, but it's all right.

“An explanation for now is that we've banked a little bit on a dry race tomorrow so we've set the car up for that. In a nutshell, we've taken downforce off for that. “With the way our straight-line speed is, we need a chance of fighting, moving forward or defending, and that's why we've gone the way we have.”

Egan has launched a lawsuit A writ filed with the over his career-ending foot Supreme Court today reveals injury. Egan, who earned AllAustralian selection during a stellar 2007 season for the Cats, is suing two doctors for damages amid claims they left him permanently injured. It was also during that standout year that Egan fractured a bone in his foot during Round 22, forcing him out of the finals. Egan claims both doctors failed to disclose the risks involved with the operation and subsequent rehab, and were therefore negligent. The documents state the average return time to sport following surgery was five months. Egan's claim reveals he has undergone six further surgeries since the initial operation and has suffered a direct impairment which restricts movement in his right ankle. The injury effectively ended Egan's playing career and he retired in 2009 after 59 games. Egan's lawyer Nick Mann

Egan is seeking damages, interest and costs from orthopedic surgery specialist Mark Blackney and Geelong club sports medicine physician Dr Chris Bradshaw. The documents state the 31-year old brings no claim for loss of earnings or loss of earning capacity. Documents reveal the club doctor referred Egan to Mr Blackney, who operated on him on September 3, 2007 in the hope he could be fit for the Grand Final. He began rehab 11 days later, but was forced to stop five days on due to severe pain and missed the Grand Final, which saw the Cats demolish Port Adelaide by more than 100 points. Egan became an assistant coach at Geelong after retiring, and joined Essendon as an assistant coach for the forward line group in 2012.

Penrith Panthers forward Jeremy Latimore on crusher tackle charge points if they had beaten Melbourne but now face PENRITH'S costly NRL loss to a big struggle to hold onto their top four spot. Melbourne has been compounded with prop Jeremy Latimore facing suspension for an alleged crusher tackle. Latimore is set to miss the key penultimate round away clash with ladder leaders Manly on Sunday after being charged by the match review committee for his second half tackle on Storm forward Bryan Norrie during Monday night's 24-10 home defeat. He can be back in time for the final round clash with the Warriors if he takes the early guilty plea and a one-match ban. The Panthers could have joined Manly on 34

Authorities Allow A Same-Sex Wedding

LADDER 2014 ROUND 21

Kuta Weekly

Two blushing brides were legally married in Russia this month, even though same sex marriage was made illegal in the country in 2012. Scandalized Russian bureaucrats were outraged, but they were trapped by their own discriminatory laws. Alina Davis and Allison Brooks are now legally married. Alina Davis, a 23 year old trans woman, and Allison Brooks, her 19 year old partner, walked into the Moscow registry office in matching

wedding dresses and asked for a marriage license. Alina said later on her VK page (Like a Russian Facebook) that the clerk called them the "shame of the family" and told them they needed medical treatment. Alina joked of her partner's reaction: "I was afraid my pussycat would beat the

In the end, the disproving clerks had no choice but to issue a license to the young couple, because Alina, (once Dmitry Kozhukhov) who was born male, is recognized as a male in Russia. The ladies married immediately at the registry, punctuating their legal marriage with a long and happy kiss. I find there is a profound and satisfying irony in the fact the women used a law born from transphobia to defeat a law born of homophobia. Congratulations to the newlyweds!

Laws give power to seize unexplained assets Police could soon be able to seize all the assets of a p e r s o n suspected of a serious crime, if new legislation by the Victorian government is passed. Suspected criminals would have to prove to the courts the assets were purchased with lawfully obtained money to recover

Motorbike helmet provides perspective A hi-tech motorbike helmet is offering two wheeled thrill seekers a new perspective on the road ahead and behind them and could change the way bike helmets are built.

HARDEN UP !!

Scheduled for release in May next year, the Skully AR-1 projects a 180-degree rearview camera and turn by turn directions on to a heads up display below the rider's right eye. Heads-up display technology, which keeps the user's eyes on the road, is also in development for car drivers. The AR-1 also boasts Bluetooth connectivity and a Smartphone companion app (for Android and iOS), both controlled by built-in voice recognition

software, which let users sync with a mobile phone to make and receive calls and play music. The helmet is the brainchild of keen rider and Skully's founder and CEO, Marcus Weller. He was involved in a motorbike crash in 2011 when he took his eye of the road to read a sign, prompting him to embrace technology in a bid to boost safety. However, Mr Weller rejects suggestions the cutting-edge headwear could actually impede a

rider's line of sight, claiming the heads-up display is designed so that it requires very little attention. The AR-1 also restricts access to the Internet, ensuring bikers can't surf the net while living life in the fast lane. The helmet's shell is based on a lightweight model approved by major crash safety ratings groups and features NASA sourced sweat wicking fabric. Its visor also dims at the push of a button to deflect direct sunlight. However, all this technology comes at a price and Mr Weller admits that the AR-1 will not come cheap. But he remains confident the technology it has introduced will change the way motorcycle helmets are built.

Opportunity, they say, knocks. The interesting thing about opportunities is the less we know about them, the more interested in them we tend to be. A chance to pursue a long-held ambition is on offer now. On paper, it ticks all the right boxes but there are several question marks hanging over this before you can accept or embrace it with both arms. Trust that time is on your side before making any decision but you can – and should – enjoy being wanted and fussed over in ways you soon will be! To make this happen, you will need support from certain individuals. You don't need to look very far to see how much is available to you.

Let's talk about commitment, particularly your willingness - or unwillingness - to commit to a certain person or group. The sky's message couldn't be clearer in terms of a 'merging of energies' in both a personal or professional sense. Some Librans will be expected to scribble a signature on a dotted line, others will be discussing and committing to plans for the future. In any case, where uncertainty has existed between you and someone else, from this week, you should see clear signs that a volatile situation is becoming more solid. What has been vague or uncertain in the background is about to become considerably clearer and more solid.

Taurus Apr 21 - May 21

Scorpio Oct 24 - Nov 22

Can you remember the last time you noticed a tiny bit of wool or thread on clothing and chose to pull it? Can you remember wishing you hadn't? Something seemingly insignificant suddenly became a much bigger issue. This week, you're being encouraged to consider the implications of pursuing a particular sensitive or controversial plan. In the same way a spark can cause a raging inferno, you could end up creating a bigger issue through not considering the bigger picture. It's one thing to identify a potential problem. It's another to tackle it while it remains in a 'potential' stage. Leave a certain issue alone, for the time being, until you know more about it.

One step forward is worth taking. When it coincides with a step backward, it can be frustrating but much depends on how helpful the step forward has been! Sometimes, a glimpse into an area we've tried to gain access to is all we need. We then find ourselves with a clearer idea about something than we had previously. Don't focus too intently this week on a perceived setback. It will serve a very helpful purpose in terms of providing focus and motivation you've wanted for a while now. You're being given reason to feel more inspired about a plan or idea that has, so far, only intrigued you. It's time to turn a plan or idea into something more concrete.

Gemini May 22 - Jun 22

Sagittarius Nov 23 - Dec 21

The ability to persuade is an art. As one of two signs blessed with exceptional abilities to communicate, you possess all verbal and intellectual tools required to get someone to accept your viewpoint and, this week, significant progress gets made where 'winning someone over' is concerned. Rarely, will you have been on such top form previously to convince someone to support an idea or proposal close to your heart. Prepare for communicative victory! You have something of considerable interest or value to someone else. You're in a strong position to control a conversation or transaction.

Nobody has ever been known to choke swallowing pride yet swallowing pride is something so many people fear and find difficult to do. Your experience this week is likely to stem from someone accepting they were wrong and as surprised as you might be with this admission, you have an excellent opportunity to enter into a new realm of dialogue that has been obstructed previously through their unwillingness to accept this. See this development as a much needed fresh start. Flexibility exists within an arrangement that you believed was set in stone. Someone just wants to see for themselves how willing you are to accept you were wrong in some way.

Superheroes always have a knack of turning up precisely when they're needed. Rarely, will you see one standing around at the scene of imminent danger, examining their nails or sending text messages. You're about to experience the thrill and excitement of saving the day through being in the right place at the right time. Although superheroes often rely on their intuition, you might actually find that one close companion played a big part in you knowing where to be. You are starting to play a more integral role in a new venture or involvement. It's time to show one or two people what you're capable of doing.

Capricorn Dec 22 - Jan 20 The interesting thing about talented people is, many tend not to blow proverbial trumpets about their abilities. When someone is genuinely good at something, they know it and often don't feel the need to show off their talents. How then, do people become aware of these if those possessing them remain so humble? Coming developments will highlight how uniquely talented you are. You can provide precisely what someone wants - and they're unlikely to take no for an answer! Be willing to share what you're able to share. Be prepared to push aside modesty and to take the lead where it is hoped you will.

Leo Jun 24 - Aug 23

Aquarius Jan 21 - Feb 19

This week, a process begins that will make noticeable improvements to your levels of 'comfort'. Every Leo will have their own story to tell about which area or areas they could do with feeling noticeably more comfortable within. It's important however to recognize the process is not an overnight one. Recently, you've had to prime yourself where partnership, financial and career related issues are concerned but can expect from this week to feel at ease in ways you haven't felt for a while. What was proposed or suggested not so long ago is about to show signs of becoming a reality. Much that has been discussed or agreed in principle is about to become formalized. Expect reassurance and comfort to replace frustration.

On the one hand, a recent change you've introduced is meeting many expectations. On the other hand, you're unhappy about an inflexible arrangement that stands with someone you wish was more willing than they are to listen to you. You could be forgiven for thinking they've adopted a 'you've made your bed, now lie in it' or 'you can count me out' attitude but there is much you can do to bridge a gap or heal a wound. Willingness on your part to demonstrate sensitivity now could work a small miracle. The key to making progress with a certain individual lies with showing empathy.

Horoscope

28 Aug - 3 Sept 2014 (402)

We all know the feeling that accompanies making something clear to someone who really ought to be as 'live' to an issue as we are. This would be made infinitely easier if we were reassured that drawing attention to something we perceive as obvious wouldn't end up as a tense discussion. This week, you're unlikely to show much restraint in a particular area. Something needs to be said. The sky insists that saying it will do you and someone else a world of good and bring a particular issue into the open that has been in need of discussing for some time. It's time to remove complacency where some has set it and enter into a new and necessary dialogue.

Pisces Feb 20 - Mar 20 People are fickle creatures. One minute, they're making their thoughts known about how we ought to be doing something, offering criticism that is neither wanted nor helpful. The next minute, they're being supportive and full of praise. You have had your share of criticism lately. You've probably grown used to being told how you should have behaved or done something that has caused a bit of a stir in some circles. This week offers much deserved praise, love and comfort. The sky is facilitating bonding of some sort and you can expect to see how appreciated, supported and loved you are.

The following is a myth busting info page covering different songs or bands each week chosen by one of our many loyal readers, Please Enjoy…Counting Crows “August and everything after”

Counting Crows Counting Crows is an American rock band from Berkeley, California, formed in 1991. The band consists of Adam Duritz (lead vocals, piano), David Bryson (guitar), Charlie Gillingham (accordion, keyboards), Dan Vickrey (lead guitar), David Immerglück (guitar, banjo, mandolin), Jim Bogios (drums) and Millard Powers (bass). Counting Crows gained popularity following the release of its debut album, August and Everything After (1993), which featured the hit single "Mr. Jones". They have sold more than 20 million albums worldwide and received a 2004 Academy Award nomination for their song "Accidentally in Love", which was included in the film Shrek 2. The band's influences include Van Morrison, R.E.M., Mike + The Mechanics, Nirvana, Bob Dylan, and The Band. Singer Adam Duritz and guitarist David Bryson began playing San Francisco coffeehouses together, performing under the name Counting Crows. The name was taken from One for Sorrow, a British divination nursery rhyme about the superstitious counting of magpies, a member of the crow family. Duritz heard the rhyme in the film Signs of Life, which starred his close friend, actress Mary-Louise Parker. Developing a following in the Bay Area and deciding to expand the band, Duritz and Bryson kept the name as they added members.

a cover of Van Morrison's "Caravan". Before signing to Geffen, the band recorded demo versions of a number of songs, known as the 'Flying Demos'. These later surfaced among the Counting Crows fanbase. Tracks include "Rain King", "Omaha", "Anna Begins", "Einstein on the Beach (For an Eggman)", "Shallow Days", "Love and Addiction", "Mr. Jones", "Round Here", "40 Years", "Margery Dreams of Horses", "Bulldog", "Lightning", and "We're Only Love". Some songs from the tape later resurfaced (in reworked versions) on the band's debut album August and Everything After. From the beginning, Counting Crows focused on live performances. The band's debut album August and Everything After, produced by T-Bone Burnett, was released in late 1993. The band toured extensively in 1993 and 1994, both as headliners and in supporting roles with other artists, including Cracker, the Cranberries, Suede, Bob Dylan, Los Lobos, Jellyfish, and Midnight Oil. The first single, "Mr. Jones," refers to The Himalayans' bassist, who was Duritz's childhood friend, Marty Jones, and Kenney Dale Johnson, the drummer of Silvertone, Chris Isaak's band, describing the desire of working musicians to make it big and the fantasies they entertain about what this might bring Duritz sang the song in fun, enjoying the fantasy of making it big. However, he did not realize that just months later, in December 1993, MTV would begin playing the video for the song. It was an unexpected hit song, drawing massive radio play and launching the band into stardom. August and Everything After became the fastest-selling album since Nirvana's Nevermind. With the turbo charge of their first single propelling the band forward, and positive reviews from Rolling Stone Magazine and other publications, it was decided that the band could use another guitarist, and Dan Vickrey, another Bay Area musician was offered the role as lead guitarist, singing backing vocals. The harmonies within the band drew praise from the start. In 1994 the band appeared on Saturday Night Live and Late Show with David Letterman, and toured with The Rolling Stones. The album sold 7 million copies, but success took a toll on the band; drummer Steve Bowman left, and Duritz suffered a widely reported nervous breakdown, which was not his first.

Adam Duritz, former member of the Bay Area band The Himalayans, and producer/guitarist David Bryson formed Counting Crows in San Francisco in 1991. They began as an acoustic duo, playing gigs in and around Berkeley and San Francisco. Another friend, guitarist David Immerglück, played with them from time to time, though he was not an official member of the group, and experimented with other musicians in the area. As the emerging band recorded some demos, and as other musicians joined the duo to make a full band, Immerglück recorded with the band on some of the songs for their first album. He declined joining the band at the time, because of his membership in two other locally popular bands, Monks of Doom and Camper Van Beethoven. By 1993, the band had grown to a stable lineup of Duritz as vocalist, occasional pianist, and primary songwriter, Bryson on guitar, Matt Malley playing bass guitar, Charlie Gillingham on keyboards, and Steve Bowman as drummer, and the band was a regular in the Bay Area scene. The same year, the band signed to Geffen Records. On January 16, 1993, the band, still relatively unknown, filled in for Van Morrison at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony, and was introduced by an enthusiastic Robbie Robertson. At the ceremony, they played

Peter says he had toast 'T-O-A-S-T'. 'Excellent.' Tommy has his hand up and the teacher reluctantly calls on him. 'I had bugger all', he says, ' B-U-G-G-E-R-A-L-L'. Susan correctly identifies the Capital of Canada . Peter is able to tell her which ocean is off Canada 's east coast. When it's Tommy's turn, the teacher remembers his rude answer from the nutrition lesson, and decides to give him a very difficult question. Tommy, she asks, 'Where is the Pakistani border?' Tommy ponders the question and finally says, 'The Pakistani boarder is in bed with my mother. That's why I got bugger all for breakfast'.

Kuta Theater, The Unbelievable Show it was a warm Saturday evening. my watch showed the time already reached 7pm Bali time. had already my dinner & had no idea what to do that evening (was a long time to be in Legian). I set my mind to Centro Shopping Mall on Kartika Plaza, might find something chill. my steps stopped as I saw a big sign on the edge of the street. it wrote "Unbelievable Theatrical Show". never had an idea what was in it. seemed worth every penny. then I asked to a man with a red mask, stood just by the sign, he was the doorman. "it's a theater illusion show, mate. come and see!" while he told me about. still had no idea. I watched the TV instead, and I got his message ;) Kuta Theater Balcony t he doorman delivered me upstairs where I could see the whole show & of course bought the ticket. USD 10 for a ticket, for an hour show with full of action, the doorman convinced me. the show started at 8pm precisely, I picked a middle row seat, where I felt comfort to see the whole show. it was entirely free seat to choose & that evening there were lots of spectators, around 100. The Legong Dance in Kuta Theater Show the show begun with a balinese traditional dance then it was totally different. a mixed twisted story of a modern life with balinese touch and magic. yupp magic! they zipped in the magic touches & tricks with dance, drama & Bali's plot. clever tricks! I couldn't figure it out how they run the show, and mostly the magic tricks. the magician vanished three dancers in a box. with just a slight
