Indonesia Poised to Become Fifth L a r g e s t A v i a t i o n Market in Te r m s o f Domestic Fliers The State News Agency Antara reports that Indonesia's expanding economy will soon propel the Country into becoming the fifth largest domestic air market in the world. BALI THE RIGHT WAY G'day again punters and welcome to the first week of the A.F.L season for 2014. I'm hoping for a huge run at the premiership for the Mighty Pies and am looking forward to seeing what pans out during the year. I'd say the lads on all teams will be about as fit as they can be and provided injury doesn't hit home to early in the run, we should all be in for a pisser season of footy, Karn The Pies. Just quickly and in closing regards the footy, don't forget to get into the aliasj@kutaweekly.com “Kuta Town Houses” and throw your nomination down for the footy tipping. For those of us that never missit each year, I suggest you remind everyone, as every year there are so many people that want to come to the wind up party and get into a decent shin dig, but alas, without a tipping membership you can only watch. Trust me when I say it's the best value deal on the island and generally costs the powers that be a damn sight more than is available from tipster contributions. Get in and see Mr Derrick and get your name on the list. Karn The Pies, Ok moving along this week saw the passing of a true legend in the world when Mr Len Buckridge passed at age 77. We are talking about a true man amongst men who would not let the powers that be get one over him. He stood up to the people that thought they might be a little more than they were and generally played a cool hand and beat whoever tried. I remember a time while being involved in the building and construction industry in Perth when Mr Buckridge started doing his own concrete pads for his spec homes and after a while the companies that supplied the concrete mix decided that he was under charging and that the best action was to hold supply on him, needless to say this caused a hiccup in the B.G.C building time frames, so he went straight to the source and built his own batching plant and now is arguably the biggest and most successful concrete merchant in Australia. The same companies that tried to slow him down back in the day are probably now his biggest customers. The same thing happened with timber supply when an apparent higher ranking person thought they might take the wind from his sails, he did the same thing, he just started his own mill and dealt direct with timber growers or imported high grade products essentially cutting out the middle man. He was a very clever man. (I heard about a fellow who runs a newspaper that is much the same) The Buckridge group employs many thousands of people in Australia and overseas and doesn't look like slowing at all. The brand is now famous for many landmark buildings in and around Perth, Australia, and the rest of the world. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to all family members who survived Len, and thank the family for the fantastic contribution they have all made to the state. R.I.P Lenny.

Need for More Safety Training of Bali's Water Sports Personnel The Bali chapter of the Indonesia Water Sport Entrepreneurs Association (Gahawisri) is asking the provincial government of Bali to facilitate the training of water sports guides on a minimum schedule of twice a year.

I K e t u t Ti r t a , executive secretary of Gahawisri-Bali, told the State News Agency Antara, “On the average every water sports operator employs 20-25 guides, but those to whom we are able to provide training is only around two people for each company.” Ti r t a s a i d t h e training of water sports guides is very important given the risks implied in their field of work. Water guides, he said, need to know about the weather, sea conditions and safety procedures. “The training we provide provides at least the base foundation for water sports guides, making them better able to perform professionally in providing service to tourists. At the very least, we hope it will eliminate

all accidents,” he explained. Tirta said he has repeatedly reminded Gahawisri members to put safety concerns before profit in serving their tourist guests. At the same time, members are asked to establish standard operating and safety procedures for marine operations. Tirta alluded to the recent incident in which two Japanese tourists died, saying the failure to use a local guide was a contributing factor in that tragedy. “In fact, every foreign company is required to used local guides who know the local sea conditions. In this regard, we think government supervision is weak. We hope in the future that government will intensify their supervision of foreigners working without the proper permits,” said Tirta. www.balidiscovery.com

Lastly this week saw the disappearance of a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with over 200 souls on board, and at time of writing this article the plane has still not been found. I have listened to many different news stories with some claiming terrorist actions and others saying hijacks, but at the end of the day one can only imagine how hard it would be for the families involved to not know how your loved ones are doing, dead or alive. Again I hope that somehow they find the aeroplane safe and sound and that everyone on board is safe and happy. It's always a terrible thing to hear about any aircraft that takes a hit as we are all living along way from home with the only way to get here being by plane. Okfolks that's about my lot for the week as I think it's about time for a few training beers in readiness for the A.F.L season ahead. I hope that the most of you stay safe happy healthy and always try to remember, Life is what you make it. Enjoy Your Week ALIASJ…. 4

Handy Guide to Spotting Counterfeit Indonesian Currency B a l i d i s c o v e r y. c o m ' s Katrin Widodo has been conducting independent research on how best to detect counterfeit Indonesian bank notes. Along the way, Katrin learned that in Java alone last y e a r, B a n k I n d o n e s i a authorities confiscated and destroyed 13,110 counterfeit banknote. Here are some handy tips from Katrin on how to spot bogus Indonesia bank notes: Look – Look closely to see that the notes are intact, bright-colored and the printing is not in any way blurred. The embedded security thread should be visible that will resemble metallic vertical lines or a woven

pattern. On the front of each Indonesian bank note you will discover a rectangular Bank Indonesia logo printed in Optical Variable Ink (OVI) that does color shifts when viewed from different

angles. Touch/Tactile Qualities – Genuine Indonesian banknotes have a very distinctive “feel.' Run your fingers across the note to detect embossed print stating the nominal value of the bill. The Indonesian national emblem of the Garuda Bird and the main portrait on the bill have a raised and embossed quality, as well. Also, let your fingers try to read the Braille on each bill located on top the “Bank Indonesia” script. Transparency – When held against a light source, a watermarked portrait of an Indonesian hero is depicted; look also for the recto-verso printing of the “B” and “I” of Bank Indonesia to be symmetrically printed on both sides of the bill.

The worst animal vandals ever Whether it's a hoard of red ants or a trail of rabbits, animals certainly know how to cause humans trouble every now and again News that a pigeon carrying a lit cigarette butt may have caused a fire in South London might sound unbelievable, but animals can be vandals, even if they don't mean to be. Whether they're the cause of slips, trips, road accidents or terrifying explosions, you should never underestimate the destructive power of our feathered and furry friends. 1. In 2011 Paralympian horse rider Lee Pearson tripped over one of his pet chickens in his back yard just as he was recovering from a spinal injury after falling from a horse. The gold medalist was moving Edna, Tracy Turnboil and Wilba into a new hut when the accident happened and he was left on his own, unable to get up. “I was like a dying turtle.” he later said. "It was much more impressive falling off a horse and breaking your back in four places but this one is just amusing, I guess. It was silly." 2. A herd of 90 cows managed to blow up a barn in Rasdorf, Germany earlier this year when the methane gas from their burps and bottoms ignited and took the roof off the building. Police issued a statement in which they amusingly explained: “'a static electric charge caused the gas to explode with flashes of flames”. One cow was badly burned in the unexpected incident. 3. Footballer Darren

Barnard was sidelined after the Barnsley FC player slipped on a pool of urine left by his pet puppy, Zak, on the kitchen floor. He tore a knee ligament and was out of action for four months in 1999. 4. Farmer Mick Wilary from Stanley in County Durham, tripped over a cat while moving bales of hay and tumbled down a flight of stairs, cracking his head open. Later he broke his collar bone when he was thrown from a horse when it was spooked by a plastic bag. 5. Brazilian footballer Marcos Paulo Alves was attacked by a colony of red ants while playing on the pitch during a state championship match in Sao Paulo. He was forced to strip off his shirt and splash water from puddles on the grass to alleviate the stings but it wasn't enough and he was forced to retire and take a bath to soothe the pain. “I felt my body numb” he

said. “I thought I was having a stroke or something when I realised my shirt was full of ants.” 6. In perhaps the ultimate act of revenge, a fire which killed 100 cats at an animal refuge near Toronto, Canada, in 2008 was probably started by mice chewing through electric cables. The centre, run by the H u m a n e S o c i e t y, e v e n acknowledged the apparently personal nature of the act of vandalism.A spokesman for the organisation said: "It's unfortunate and ironic that mice caused the fire that killed the cats.” 7. In Reykyavik in 2011 a group of rabbits became the latest in a long line of animals causing multiple car pile ups around the Icelandic capital.Geese and ducks in the carriageway also caused similar accidents but the rabbits were a particular problem as their numbers were so high. Officials said they were breeding like, well, like rabbits.

Mark Johnston, 52, arrived drunk at the Downtown Grand casino and was plied with free alcoholic drinks while he gambled, according to the suit filed in Nevada state court for Clark County. After leaving the gaming tables, Johnston went to his hotel room and woke up the next day with no memory of his time at the tables, stated the lawsuit, depicting his mental state while gambling as a "blackout period." Johnston's attorney, Sean Lyttle, described him as a self-made millionaire who previously owned a number of car dealerships and was involved in real estate development. Starting on the night of January 30 and running into the next afternoon at the casino in downtown Las Vegas, a few miles from The Strip, Johnston played paigow and blackjack for 17 hours and was served about 20 drinks,

10

according to the lawsuit. Lyttle said he has never heard of a gambler in Las Vegas being allowed to lose such a large amount while intoxicated. " M r. J o h n s t o n , a n experienced gambler, was dropping chips on the floor, confusing chip colors and slurring his speech badly, and he was unable to read his cards or set his hands properly," the lawsuit stated. The description of Johnston's behaviour came largely from Eric Weis, a bartender at the casino who had previously befriended Johnston and sat beside him at one point during the gambling episode, Lyttle said. Weis has since stopped working at the casino, where he felt pressured by management over the incident, the attorney said.

Before his arrival in Las Vegas, Johnston, a resident of Ventura, had been given credit in the amount of $250,000, and that amount was increased while he was gambling so he ultimately lost $500,000, the lawsuit said. Nevada gaming regulations prohibit casinos to allow visibly drunk guests to continue to gamble. A spokeswoman for the Downtown Grand declined to comment on the lawsuit, which accuses the casino negligence, reckless endangerment, fraud and other wrongdoing. It seeks to have a court declare Johnston's $500,000 gambling debt null and void, as well as unspecified compensatory and punitive damages. Lyttle said he expects the casino will file a countersuit seeking payment of the debt, after failing to have it withdrawn from Johnston's bank account. "I'm frankly baffled by the way this was handled and all I can really think to chalk it up to is inexperience," Lyttle said. "This is a casino that opened its doors in November."

Third-graders caught smoking pot Three third-graders were caught smoking marijuana in the boys' bathroom of their northern California elementary school last week in what the local police chief says marked the youngest pot bust he has ever encountered. The three boys, two 8yearolds and one 9yearold, were caught by another student, who informed school administrators, who in turn alerted local law enforcement, said Sonora Police Chief Mark Stinson. Police officers detained the youngsters for questioning, then released them to their parents, Stinson said. The police chief of Sonora, a picturesque "Gold Country" town in the Sierra foothills about 130 miles east of San Francisco, said the youngest person he previously knew of being busted for smoking pot was about 10 years of age. A pipe and a very small amount of marijuana were seized, he said, adding that the boys

seemed to have had little smoking experience and did not appear to be under the influence when confronted. Stinson declined to comment on anything the boys said, or on the possible origins of the pot, except to say that "it came from several sources." He said the incident will remain under investigation to determine whether the boys could be considered criminally culpable. Under California law, no one under 12 is usually charged with a crime, but the boys could be subject to juvenile justice proceedings. "The first step is, we have to determine whether they knew right from wrong,"

The superintendent of the local school district, Leigh Shampain, declined to comment on any details of the case but confirmed that students had been caught smoking marijuana in the school restroom last week. Both he and the police chief said the case underscores concerns that legalizing marijuana for recreational use by adults in California would make it easier for minors to gain access to pot in the future. Said Stinson, "It's something to think about." California in 1996 became the first of 20 U.S. states to allow marijuana use for medical purposes, and a Field Poll in December found that 55 percent of registered voters supported expanding legalization to recreational use. Colorado and Washington State approved ballot measures doing just that in November 2012. The last time such a proposal was put to California voters, in 2010, it was defeated.

Driver finds $12,000 stash in spare tyre A Ohio woman took the car she bought seven months ago to a dealership to replace a flat tire this week and learned she has been driving around with eight pounds of marijuana in the spare. Mechanics at the dealership in Amherst, Ohio, west of Cleveland made the discovery when they installed the spare tire and heard a "loud thumping" as the woman drove away, police said.

12

They found marijuana worth about $12,000 wrapped in plastic that had been stashed in the tire, according to Chief Deputy Dennis Cavanaugh of the Lorain County,

O h i o S h e r i f f Department. The car was purchased new in August. Cavanaugh said the woman has not been charged with any crime, and investigators were trying to trace the marijuana back to parts suppliers or vehicle transport firms. Cavanaugh said this case was not the first time marijuana has been found in unexpected places, including tires and hidden compartments."I'm sure it is not the only vehicle out there with this," Cavanaugh said.

Lost German survives on flies in outback Stranded by floods and lost, a German backpacker survived for around two weeks in Australia's inhospitable Outback on a diet of insects. Daniel Dudzisz, 26, went missing in the south-west of Longreach in remote Queensland as he reportedly tried to walk solo more than halfway across Australia. Police said a motorist picked up the bedraggled tourist near Cooper Creek outside the town of Windorah. Dudzisz, who is diabetic and insulindependent told police he waded through floodwaters and ate flies to survive his ordeal in the vast and wild Outback. "If you hadn't heard it with your own ears, and my officers have, you certainly wouldn't believe it," Inspector Mark Henderson said. "He joked about never going hungry in the Australian Outback because of the amount of flies you can eat for their protein apparently." The German had been walking through New South Wales and Queensland states for several months and kept in regular contact with police. But when he set off from Windorah in February heading to

Jundah, about 90 kilometres (50 miles) away, he lost his way and became stranded between two flooded areas of the Barcoo River. "He had some baked beans and cereal when he left Windorah and exhausted that pretty quickly, and said he'd been eating flies ever since," Henderson added. Aerial and ground searches were launched when the tourist failed to reach Jundah. "He did see the choppers looking for him but they couldn't see him due to the tree coverage," the inspector said.Dudzisz spurned medical treatment when he returned to Windorah. "He certainly was hungry, but other than that he was in reasonable spirits," Henderson said. The German told police he was determined to continue his journey to Australia's Northern Territory and was last seen heading beyond the remote town of Mt Isa to cross the state border.

kilometres (2,400 miles) from New South Wales to Uluru Ayer's Rock in the heart of Australia. "What I enjoy about the walking most is just how much closer nature feels and all the little unexpected encounters and adventures that tend to accumulate along such a journey." He related a nighttime fight with an aggressive kangaroo in a national park. "I jumped at it and started to beat it up. The kangaroo was a little smaller then me and offered almost no resistance. "I think it was surprised by the decisiveness of my attack." Dudzisz also met with opal miner Andrew Plax while passing through the Queensland mining town of Yowah. Plax said the German was the most intriguing traveller he had met in years and that he had no doubts he would be found alive when he was missing. "He was very friendly. He told me how he's already walked in other continents," Plax said. "I'm not worried about him yet. He lives on the smell of an oily rag foodwise. "Water's not a problem at the moment, and he drinks from cow troughs and puddles."

Mississippi man kicks to escape body bag A funeral director and coroner in Mississippi got the shock of their lives this week when a man put in a body bag because he was believed to be dead kicked to get out just before they began the embalming process. "He was not dead, long story short," funeral director Byron Porter said. The man, 78-year-old Walter Williams, had been pronounced dead after the coroner arrived at his home in Lexington and found no pulse. Williams was then taken to the funeral home. "I stood there and watched them put him in a body bag and zip

it up," Williams' nephew, Eddie Hester said. But at the funeral home, Williams began to breathe and kick, Holmes County Coroner Dexter Howard said in an interview. Howard said Williams has a defibrillator that may have fired up his heart again.

Paramedics picked Williams up from the funeral home and took him to an area hospital, where he has been receiving treatment. His daughter said that Williams, who was nicknamed "Snowball" because he was born during a rare Mississippi snowstorm, was now in a stable condition and had been talking with family members. "He said he thought he was asleep," Mary Williams said of her father's account of what happened. "Then he woke up in the hospital. He doesn't remember any of it, really."

Pastry launched into stratosphere Sicilian amateur scientists have launched a model cannolo, a cream-stuffed pastry roll symbolic of the Italian island, into the stratosphere, capturing bizarre images of the dessert flying far above the earth. The 'Sicilian Space Program', which cost a rough total of 350 euros, had symbolic importance as well as being a scientific feat, the three natives of the island town of Enna behind it said. "Sicily has always been a place of negative connotations, mafia and unemployment. We wanted to lift up Sicily in our own way," said filmmaker Fabio Leone, 34, who recorded the project with AntonellaBarbera, 38. Their heavily indebted island, long plagued by organized crime, was forced to impose a strict spending program by Rome in 2012 and has one of the highest

18

unemployment rates in Italy. Attached to a large heliumfilled balloon, a home-made spacecraft called the 'Cannolo Transporter' equipped with two cameras and a GPS tracker, captured stunning and comical images as the cannolo soared above the clouds towards space. It rose to at least 29,768 meters according to Paolo Capasso, 37, a computer technician responsible for the careful calculations behind the launch. As a real cannolo would be unlikely to survive the voyage, the group made a model of the

cherrystudded pastry with a polymer clay material hardened in an oven. The craft had to weigh under 2 kilos to qualify for the easiest official permits required to fly into high altitude. The body of the craft was made from an insulated ice cream box, which protected the camera batteries from temperatures that dropped below -50 degrees Celsius. Atmospheric pressure decreased as the Cannolo Transporter rose, causing the balloon to expand until it eventually burst. It then tumbled back to earth, slowed by a small parachute. It landed in hills near the village of Bompietro, 25 km (15 miles) from where had been launched at the peak of the Rocca di Cerere nature park. It was recovered by the team who followed the GPS signal on a hunt through fields of sheep.

In West Java both the Recommendation from governor regarding the land that provincial government and the Governor Pastika The building of a Buleleng International Airport in North Bali has yet to begin due to, among other things, the lack of a final recommendation from the governor stipulating the location for Island's second air gateway. Beritabali.com cites an unnamed source in Jakarta saying the Buleleng International Airport cannot commence construction without a signed location recommendation from Governor Made Mangku Pastika. Moreover, it is understood that the formal decree to build the Buleleng Airport already exists in draft form, but has yet to be signed by the Minister of Transportation due to the lack of a location recommendation from Governor Pastika.

will be utilized for the new airport in Buleleng. The Governor of Bali has yet to give his recommendation on location, preventing the Minister of Transportation from issuing a decree to begin construction of the new airport in Buleleng.” The lack of a location recommendation also means that the Central Government cannot begin allocating funds from the National Budget (APBN) to build the airport. The same source added: “The development of the new airport in Buleleng is actually supposed to take place simultaneously with a new airport in West Java. The West Java Airport can now begin construction because the

regencies are in agreement on providing the land for the new airport.” There is an apparent tug-ofwar underway over whether the airport will be located in West Buleleng near Gerokgak or East Buleleng near Kubutambahan. Apparently Governor Pastika prefers the airport to be built in West Buleleng, while the Regent of Buleleng, Agus Suradnyana, prefers an East Buleleng location near Kubutambahan. Pastika is defending choice of the West Buleleng locale saying the location decision was arrived at after a careful study and review of all options in North Bali. www.baliiscovery.com

Team of the Week: Best of the individual performers from a bumper NRL round one THERE was some stunning individual performances in NRL round one. With help from Fox Sports Stats, we've picked out the best of them for our Team of the Week. 1. GREG INGLIS (Rabbitohs - 135 SuperCoach points) The Rabbitohs' monster fullback was devastating from the moment the referee blew time-on. He proved to be the difference for Souths, scoring three of their four tries and making 179 metres along the way. The superstar had said he couldn't wait for the season to start, well know we all know why. 2. JOSH MANSOUR (Panthers - 109 SuperCoach points) Mansour spent much of 2013 plagued by injury and struggled to reach his potential. But after just one game in 2014 we got a glimpse of why so much is expected from the young winger. In a powerhouse display he scored two tries, made two line breaks and ate up an impressive 162 metres. His second try was a standout effort, with the winger beating five defenders to score one of the tries of the round. 3. DALE COPLEY (Broncos - 89 SuperCoach points) The Broncos owe their round one victory to Dale Copley, who's determined performance included a try and a break which lead to the matchwinning try. After a strong spell of defence by the Broncos, Copley split open the Bulldogs line to race 50 metres down the field. The break shifted the game's momentum and resulted in a try that would prove to be the difference. 4. STEVE MATAI (Sea Eagles - 78 SuperCoach points) Proved why he is one of the most dangerous backline players in the game. He scored two tries, had two try assists and made two line breaks. He caused plenty of headaches for the Storm in the first half. 5. SEMI RADRADRA (Eels - 123 SuperCoach points) From kava farmer to NRL cult hero. Radradra not only scored three tries of his own, he setup a fourth to Jarryd Hayne and made 10 tackle busts. The Fijian flyer had not played a single game of league before joining the Eels and yet he now shapes up as one of the game's most exciting prospects in attack. 6. JOHNATHAN THURSTON (Cowboys - 132 SuperCoach points) What can be said about the genius playmaker that hasn't been said already? He put on a masterclass against the Raiders as he orchestrated a come from behind for the Cowboys. In a moment that showed Thurston as truly being in a class of his own, he took advantage of the new quick tap rule to race 50 metres and then baffle three defenders with his show-and-go to score. 7. ADAM REYNOLDS (Rabbitohs - 64 SuperCoach points) Reynolds had a stellar running game and his performance has reinjected him into Origin contention. The Rabbitohs half — who was lucky not to spend time in the bin for a professional foul — had eight kicks in play which averaged 194 metres. 8. GEORGE BURGESS (Rabbitohs - 52 SuperCoach points) With big brother Sam leaving the NRL at the end of the season, George is next in line to the Burgess throne. His 16 runs for 147 metres, to go with four tackle busts and 16 tackles was a great way for the powerhouse to start the season. 9. CAMERON SMITH (Storm - 71 SuperCoach points)

22

Believe it or not, Smith's golden point field goal was the first of his career. In a leading performance, Smith marshalled his troops to a comeback victory against archrivals the Sea Eagles. 10. JESSE BROMWICH (Storm - 52 SuperCoach points) Has become the leader of the Storm's pack over the past couple of seasons and played a key role in turning the momentum in Melbourne's favour on the way to a golden point win against Manly. Led the way with 16 runs for 156 metres, an offload and two tackle busts in an excellent allround performance. 11. JASON TAUMALOLO (Cowboys - 81 SuperCoach points) Finally living up to his potential, Taumololo gave a massive performance for the Cowboys. He made 207 metres, two line breaks, five tackle busts and made 22 tackles. 12. JOSH PAPALII (Raiders - 95 SuperCoach points) Papalii's game had a touch of everything. He scored a try, had three tackle busts and made 29 tackles, including one miracle try-saver. 13. SAM BURGESS (Rabbitohs - 61 SuperCoach points) He dominated in his battle against SBW, making 172 metres in 20 runs, along with two offloads — a performance which earned him man of the match honours. 14. GARETH WIDDOP (Dragons - 124 SuperCoach points) Widdop justified the big dollars the Dragons forked out for his signature. He had a hand in four of his side's seven tries and was on-point with the boot, kicking eight for eight goals. With Widdop pulling the strings, the Dragons scored more than 40 points for the first time since Steve Price took over. 15. MANU MA'U (Eels - 64 SuperCoach points) From prison cell to hulking backrower, Ma'u notched up 190 metres and created plenty of havoc along the way. Making six tackle busts and two line breaks, he terrorised the Warriors down the right side. 16. ALEX GLENN (Broncos - 57 SuperCoach points) The Brisbane workhouse provided plenty of go forward making a game-high 184 metres from 20 runs. He also had four tackle busts, one line break and made 17 tackles. 17. TYSON FRIZELL (Dragons - 103 SuperCoach points) Frizell was brought into the Dragons side to provide a little more muscle. But he did more than that in a complete performance that included two tries, a heap of tackles, two line breaks and eight tackle busts.

Their cross-town rivals, the Power, might once have been the malevolent, evil force of South Australian state footy, but there's something gutsy and admirable about the Power these days. Not so the Crows, who have become chronic under-achievers on the field, and MOST LOATHSOME OF ALL… are the fans, who don't have an ounce of sportsmanship in their delicate bones , and who routinely walk out of matches early when their little darlings are behind on the scoreboard, so they can scurry off to the nearest wine bar. 4. The NSW Waratahs No sporting team should be named after flowers, and this particular bunch of pansies is like one of those overpriced bouquets you buy at a fancy schmancy florist, a bouquet which wilts and dies about 20 minutes after you bought it. How many times have the delicate petals in this Sydney-based Super 15 rugby outfit looked good yet failed to bloom? How many flower analogies can we fit in one piece? MOST LOATHSOME OF ALL… is the fact that they're looking so good again this year. Indeed they've won their two matches in free-flowing style yet have the best defence in the competition. That's a sure sign that it'll go wrong in about six weeks. It always does.

5. Team Waterhouse They're an unofficial “team” in the true sporting sense of the word, but the trainer of last year's Melbourne Cup winner Fiorente and her high profile bookie son are quite the unlovable duo of the Australian racing scene. To be fair to Gai, her effervescent nature and sharp tongue can be entertaining, such as when she bagged out her old mate Singo at the More Joyous inquiry. But for the most part, she comes across as narcissistic and endlessly verbose on her favourite subject – herself. As for Tom, let's just say that if he really knew what punters want, as he claims in his ads, he'd bugger off and get a real job. MOST LOATHSOME OF ALL… is when Waterhouse invites punters to bet on his mother's horses, all of which is perfectly above aboard and legal but which always seems, shall we say, a little at odds with many people's expectations of the racing industry. 6. The Australian Swimming Team They've given Australia no less than 58 gold medals over the course of our Olympic history but in recent times they've also given us all sorts of reasons to tune out. The blokes played up like spoilt brats in London, while half the girls were too busy updating their Facebook profiles to worry about winning medals. Unlike, say, Collingwood, this is a sporting outfit no-one actually wants to hate. But our swimmers have still got plenty to do before (and during) the Rio Olympics to convince Australians that they're a mature bunch of young champions who are worth cheering for no matter how they perform. MOST LOATHSOME OF ALL… is their nickname the “Dolphins”. It's pointless having a team nickname for what is effectively a large group of individuals competing in solo or relay events. In fact, you'd probably have to call it porpoiseless. 7. Any team of drug cheats Do we have to name names? In the past 12 months, there's been enough written about teams in both the NRL and AFL who drag all of sport down with cutting-edge tactics taken from the Lance Armstrong playbook. MOST LOATHSOME OF ALL… is the fact that you just know we've not heard the last of it, and probably never will.

M

Not a hate that manifests itself as violence, but a simmering, resentful kind of hate that sustains you and even nourishes you when your own team is playing like hell. Here are seven teams not even a mother could love. 1. Collingwood You knew they'd be here before you clicked, and while we've tried to include a few surprises on this list, there's no point overthinking things too much. Collingwood is the very definition of loathsomeness. Like a dumb, ugly rich kid who thinks himself superior to his peers while in truth they snigger behind his back, Collingwood has no friends, no class and not a single worthy trait. Don't be fooled by the fact that in terms of both members and match day crowds, this is Australia's most popular sporting club. There's no official measure of unpopularity but if there was, you'd need about ten thousand MCGs to hold all the haters. MOST LOATHSOME OF ALL... is that line in the club song that goes “Oh, the premiership's a cakewalk for the good old Collingwood”. The arrogance, the sheer arrogance. The delicious irony is that Collingwood do indeed often play like a bunch of loafers poncing around eating cake, especially after reaching one of those grand finals they're so adept at not winning. 2. The Brisbane Broncos Brisbane likes to think of itself as a mature, global city these days, a fact supported by the city being chosen to host the G20 summit later this year. Brisbane is also the rugby league capital of the world – perhaps the only city on the face of the earth which truly lives and breathes for the sport. Yet Brisbane has just one NRL team. That team, with its mystifyingly American name, is the Broncos. The Broncos are like a giant vacuum cleaner for Brisbane sporting talent. Each year, while the 10 Sydney clubs battle it out for scraps, the Broncos unearth a local superstar or several who just happened to end up in the club's hideously ugly maroon-and-gold strip. MOST LOATHSOME OF ALL...

is the whingeing and hair pulling-out that occurs when the Broncos don't make the finals. It's like they've got some sort of birth-right to be there. For the record, they have missed finals footy just three times since their first year 1988. And they're currently lamenting their longest premiership drought… a whopping seven seasons. Drought schmought. There are towns in Queensland which haven't seen rain for longer than that. 3. The Adelaide Crows From day one, when they adopted the South Australian State colours, the Crows stamped themselves as arrogance and egotism personified.

M AR ER T TA M N AR A KE DI T

BEING a sports fan is about passion. It's about loyalty and sticking with your team on a rainy afternoon when the pies are cold and your team's form even colder. There is beauty and passion in being a sports fan. But there is also hate.

With a raft of new rules and new engines, we run through the key changes to F1 for 2014 NEW engines, new sounds and new rules, Formula 1 has undergone its biggest makeover for a generation over the summer. Here's a rundown of all the changes that you need to know about. DOUBLE POINTS In what has proved one of the most controversial rule changes in F1 history, the final race of the season — which this year will be staged in Abu Dhabi on November 23 — will award double the usual allocation of points to the top-ten finishers in a bid to lessen the chance of the championship being decided several races early. It means that the race winner in Abu Dhabi will receive 50 points instead of the usual 25, the runner-up 36 instead of 18 and so on. Fourth place therefore, which usually garners 12 points, will be worth all-but the same as race victory at all the other 18 rounds. TWO NEW RACES While the calendar stays at 19 races for the second successive year, Korea and India make way for F1's longawaited arrival in Russia and return to Austria after more than a decade away. The Russian GP will take place on a newly-constructed circuit around Sochi's Winter Olympic Park with the inaugural race to take place on October 12. Austria represents more familiar territory for the sport with what's now known as the Red Bull Ring previously staging grands prix when called The A1 Ring (1997-2003) and before then the Osterreichring (1970-1987). The revamped venue in Spielberg will make its return on June 22. DRIVER CHANGES In one of the biggest shake-ups of the driver line-up in recent memory, just two teams — Mercedes and Marussia — retain the same pairing they fielded in 2013. In the most eye-catching moves, Kimi Raikkonen has returned to Ferrari to form a mouthwatering allWorld Champion line-up with Fernando Alonso while Australian youngster Daniel Ricciardo replaces compatriot Mark Webber alongside Sebastian Vettel at World Champions Red Bull. Three rookies also join the sport with Denmark's Kevin Magnussen joining Jenson Button at McLaren, Russian youngster Daniil Kvyat

28

succeeding Ricciardo at Toro Rosso and Swedish GP2 graduate Marcus Ericsson signing for Caterham. PERMANENT DRIVER NUMBERS In order to quell age-old complaints over car identification, each driver on the 2014 grid has been given the chance to select a number between two and 99 which they will carry for the remainder of their F1 career. For example, Lewis Hamilton has selected '44', Fernando Alonso '14' and Jenson Button '22', while Sebastian Vettel, as is his right as the reigning World Champion, will again carry the coveted '1' on his Red Bull. Rules dictate that a driver's number must be clearly visible on the nose of his car and crash helmet. IN-SEASON TESTING RETURNS In a shake-up of testing restrictions during the season, four tests two-day tests at grand prix venues are now permitted from the Tuesday after the corresponding race. The Young Driver Test has been scrapped as a result. DRIVER PENALTY POINTS In order to create a more streamlined disciplinary system, stewards can now impose penalty points on a driver's Super Licence for on-track misdemeanours. If a driver reaches 12 points he will be removed for the following grand prix, after which the accrued points will be wiped. The points will remain on a driver's licence for 12 months. QUALIFYING TWEAKS While the three-part knockout format that has been in place since 2006 essentially remains unchanged, small but significant revisions have been made to maximise the time cars spend on track — particularly in Q3. Whereas previously top-ten runners would have the option of remaining in their garages for the final stage in order to start on fresher tyres in the race, all Q3 participants will now have to start the race on the tyre they used in Q2. Furthermore, Q1 will be reduced from 20 to 18 minutes while Q3 will be lengthened from 10 minutes to 12, to give drivers more time to complete two timed runs. POLE POSITION TROPHY The driver who claims the most pole positions during the season will be awarded a new trophy in recognition at

the end of the year. In the event of a tie then the driver with the amount of second places will be declared the winner and so on until a clear winner emerges. EXTRA TYRES IN P1 To help encourage cars to take to the track earlier in Friday Practice One sessions each driver will have access to an additional set of 'prime' tyres for the first 30 minutes of running. What's new on the cars? ALL-NEW ENGINES The 2.4-litre V8 engines that were used in 2013 are replaced by 1.6litre V6s with a single turbocharger. The rev limit is also reduced from 18,000 rpm to 15,000 rpm. To increase the sport's green credentials and road relevance the cars' energy-recovery capabilities have also been enhanced with two ERS systems now in place, one which recovers kinetic energy under braking (known as the MGU-K) and the other heat energy from the exhaust turbine (the MGU-H). Unlike the case with KERS, drivers won't activate the ERS boost — which will now offer 161bhp for 33 seconds per lap — via a button on the steering wheel. FUEL LIMIT FOR RACES Cars will now have to start races carrying 100kg of fuel — compared to approximately 150kg in 2013 — to complete the distance with a limited fuelflow rate of 100kg/hour. LOWER NOSES In a bid to avoid cars being launched in accidents, the tip of the nose has been dramatically lowered — a change which has given rise to spate of 'ugly' 2014 nose designs. The changes to the nose have led to some rather unsightly designs. FRONT AND REAR WING CHANGES A fundamental change at the front of the car results in front wings being narrowed from 1800mm to 1650mm. There are also changes at the rear with the rearwing main plane removed and a shallower rear wing to decrease downforce. But to ensure the DRS overtaking aid remains a powerful overtaking tool, the flap can open as wide as 65mm, a 15mm increase from 2013. ANYTHING ELSE? Eight-speed gearboxes replace the previous seven while ratios will be fixed for the season; a central exhaust exit pipe out of the back of the car to end blown-diffuser effect; increase in minimum car weight from 642kg to 691kg.

Sultan Kosen, who clocks in as the world's tallest living man at 251 cm (8ft 3in) is in Sydney for the Anatolian Turkish Festival. "Even though it's raining, it's still warm. We don't get that back home," he said. "The air, the water, everything is just perfect." Mr Kosen, who arrived in Australia last week, says he enjoys his status as the world's tallest man but says it has dozens of disadvantages. "I can't fit many places, all doors are too low for me so I have to bend all the time," he said. A popular sight at the festival, he regularly stood for photos, using crutches to assist his movement. At times he appeared unsteady, sighing heavily as a group of admirers cramped into the small white tent in Darling Harbour to see him. "His joints are weak," says his interpreter Fatih, before apologising to Mr Kosen. His incredible growth began at the age of ten, the result of pituitary gigantism, the result of on over production of growth hormones. Mr Kosen was named the tallest man in the world by the Guinness book of Records in 2009, when he measured a more modest 8.1 feet (243 cm). He also holds the title for the largest hands in the world, with each one measuring 28.5cm from the wrist to the middle finger. In August 2010 a tumour affecting the gland was removed and he stopped growing.

But he's aware of competitors nipping at his heels. "The closest I know is someone who is 2.46 metres but he has stopped growing," he said. Mr Kosen lives in a town called Mardin, close to the Turkish/Syrian border. He works on one of his parents cotton and corn farms, driving a tractor and lives with his wife of two and a half months, MerveDibo, a Syrian refugee he met through family friends. Mr Kosen will leave Sydney for Turkey next week.

The United States defused a brewing, and cordial, crisis with C a n a da , a f t e r P r im e Minister Stephen Harper joked that Barack Obama has yet to deliver the beer he promised if the U.S. hockey teams lost to Canada in the Olympics. The White House responded the president does not welsh on his bets. "In fairness to President Obama, he's lost bets to me before, and he's always paid up before," Harper said, "I'm sure he will." During a summit in Mexico, the leaders bet a case of beer on the men's and women's hockey teams. The Canadian men beat the United States 1-0 in the semifinals and then advanced to gold

over Sweden, and the Canadian women came from behind in a late surge to snatch gold from the United States 3-2. "So I'm confident that Prime Minister Harper and members of his team will soon be enjoying some delicious White House beer." The White House has brewed original varieties of beer since the Obama family became its occupants in 2009. "President Obama had signed it, so I thought 'Oh, jeez, so I can't really keep this now it's now got the signature of the president of the United States on it,'" Harper said. Woman found dead after money runs out For six years the bills were paid, the grass was cut and no one noticed the body of the dead woman sitting in the back seat of a car in a garage of a residential Pontiac, M i c h i g a n neighbourhood. Her mummified body was finally found this week by someone dispatched to check on the property that fell into foreclosure after the money ran out of her account and the mortgage payments stopped, police said. "It is kind of the perfect storm for a mysterious set of circumstance and a challenge because of the extreme degradation of the body," Oakland

County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in a telephone interview. The woman has not yet been positively identified, but it is thought she is a person who stopped working in 2008 and had set up all of her bills to be paid automatically from her bank account.

worked as a contractor in the financial department for a major automobile company. A neighbour cut her lawn, her mail was sent to the post office and there was no family living nearby, Bouchard said. "The last withdrawal from her account was in March 2013," he added. Neighbours said the woman had family in Germany and would be gone for days or weeks at a time. When she was back home, she kept to herself. "Nobody came over there to check on the lady. It's weird. And it's actually scary," a neighbour said.A cause of death was under investigation.

We learn from mistakes yet we're not always willing to accept that, through making them, we often end up in a better place than we would have been otherwise. If, through a process of trial and error, we do arrive at a better destination, then surely brief frustration we experience through trying and erring is worth it? You're in a position to stand back and let someone make a mistake or you can choose to intervene. Logic dictates that you ought to do the former. Your heart is inclined to opt for the latter. Be at hand if necessary but it would be wise to keep some distance.

Libra Sep 24 - Oct 23 We have all received an email or text that appeared more abruptly than the sender intended. Such is the way of today's communication. It's immediate. It relies on abbreviations and symbols being understood correctly. Breakdowns in communication obviously occur in face-to-face discussions but not as frequently. What matters this week is you and someone else say to each other what needs to be said, and without distractions or any possibility of misinterpretation. It's time to employ some good, old fashioned, eye to eye communication.

Taurus Apr 21 - May 21 Do you really have time to be reading this forecast? You must be aware of how someone needs you to assist them in some way and how another person has another demand they wish to make of you. It's just as well you're such an obliging soul. Or are you? Pressure is mounting in terms of how best to divide your time and efforts to those who appear to want it. This week poses an interesting question: what about you, your needs and what you want? Now is the perfect time to send a clear message to anyone who you feel can help you to answer that question.

Scorpio Oct 24 - Nov 22 For some time, imbalance and uncertainty have existed where a plan or pursuit of something – or someone – is concerned. You appear to have been weighing up pros and cons of taking decisive action and have probably opted for doing nothing and sticking with what's familiar, tried or tested. Coming developments bring you face-to-face with a decision begging to be made. Trust that this will be infinitely easier with a bit more information that promises to arrive to help with this. In the meantime, don't overlook how much stronger your position is becoming.

Gemini May 22 - Jun 22 When reading a map and identifying the most direct route from A to B, we find ourselves examining other routes, wondering if they might be easier or less stressful. We then discover more than one way to get to where we want to be. It is important that you stick with the most obvious way to make something important happen now. Don't become distracted or confused with other options that might be viable but, through being unexplored, could end up becoming more of a problem. What might appear appealing or easier might be a problem waiting to happen.

Sagittarius Nov 23 - Dec 21 Habits, we are told, are habit forming. As the great philosopher Aristotle once said 'We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit'. Soon, you're likely to adopt a fresh and much needed change in a routine or toward a pursuit. Where you have grown used to repetition, the cosmos intends to shake things up a bit. What's tired and unnecessary is being removed and replaced with something much more inspiring. Look for certain clues about where the cosmos is aiming its interest this week.

Cancer Jun 23 - Jul 23 People speak sometimes about 'being caught in a crossfire' and, you're likely to find yourself soon in the middle of a dispute, argument or conflict that will require you to choose a side. You are very likely aware of repercussions of making an incorrect choice in the eyes of a certain person. So where does that leave you? Your challenge this week surrounds finding balance between being supportive of someone's aims and letting someone else fight their own battle, in addition to knowing what you truly want to achieve from adopting a rigid stance.

Capricorn Dec 22 - Jan 20. People speak of 'method' in 'madness'. What make sense to someone sometimes doesn't make sense to the rest of us. That's because they're closer to 'whatever it is' than we are. All we're seeing is methodology being applied. We haven't been privy to thought processes that created it. It's important to trust that you know what you're doing, even if others are quick to query, criticize, condemn or complain. What you are undertaking with genuine, heartfelt belief really is worth doing. For once, your head and your heart are in agreement about this.

Leo Jun 24 - Aug 23 'The best laid plans of mice and men oft go astray'. So goes the old saying which formed the basis of the title of John Steinbeck's novel. We make plans. We believe there should be no reason why, given their simplicity, they should not come to fruition as expected. Then, often through no fault of our own, we discover otherwise. You're right to make certain plans and expect certain levels of commitment from others. Just be 'live' to how these might alter. The cosmic climate is a volatile one and you'd be wise to be as flexible and accommodating as possible.

Aquarius Jan 21 - Feb 19 In the absence of essential information, we piece together a picture or solution based on what information we do have available. Sometimes, we get this right. Other times, we become aware that we probably would have arrived at a correct answer or drawn the right conclusion if only certain information was available to us! This week, don't be quick to make an assumption in the apparent absence of key information. A decision relies on you having factual information available to you and soon, this will come.

Virgo Aug 24 - Sep 23 'I'm afraid we can't do that'. 'I am unable to do this'. We hear such statements from customer service people regularly. We also know that the person we're speaking with either can't be bothered to do more than they believe their job's worth or risk retribution from someone else. You're likely to find individuals unwilling to assist you in ways you wish they would. The result you want is dependent on how you ask for cooperation and make clear why you need it. You might believe you've asked in every way possible but the sky insists a way has yet to be tried.

Pisces Feb 20 - Mar 20 How tedious has a certain discussion become? Your unwillingness to go round and round in circles with it is understandable. Ah, but have you or someone else ever addressed why a line of discussion keeps going round in circles with no clear evidence of an agreement being reached? Coming developments bring interesting news on that front. You and they are about to set a helpful precedent where future discussions are concerned. At long last, progress is imminent and you can expect reassurance that an ongoing drama's days are numbered.

Aries Mar 21 - Apr 20

Early life Kenny G was born in Seattle, Washington, to Jewish parents (his mother was originally from Saskatchewan, Canada) and grew up in the city's Seward Park neighborhood, which is a center of the city's Jewish community. He came into contact with a saxophone when he heard someone performing with one on The Ed Sullivan Show. He started playing the saxophone in 1966 when he was 10 years old. He learned how to play under the direction of local trumpeter Gerald Pfister and by practicing along with records (mostly of Grover Washington, Jr.), trying to emulate the sounds that he was hearing. His first saxophone was a Buffet Crampon alto. Kenny G attended Whitworth Elementary School, Sharples Junior High School, Franklin High School, and the University of Washington, all in his home town of Seattle. When he entered high school, he failed on his first try to get into the jazz band, but tried again the following year and earned first chair. His Franklin High School classmate Robert Damper (piano, keyboards) plays in his band. In addition to his studies while in high school, he took private lessons on the saxophone and clarinet from Johnny Jessen, once a week for a year. He was also on his high school golf team. He had loved the sport ever since his older brother, Brian Gorelick, introduced it to him when he was ten years old, which is the same age he was when he started playing the saxophone.

Career Kenny G's career started with a job as a sideman for Barry White's Love Unlimited Orchestra in 1973 while 17 and still in high school. He continued to play professionally while studying for a major in accounting at the University of Washington in Seattle and graduated magna cum laude. He played with the funk band Cold, Bold &Together before becoming a credited member of The Jeff Lorber Fusion. He began his solo career after his period with Lorber.

Bali's 10 best dive sites Diving in Bali Want to plunge into the deep blue and get your mind blown by Bali's underwater wildlife? Head right this way. Bali's dive sites offer great diversity: vertical walls and sand slopes, shipwrecks, limestone shorelines and black, volcanic outcrops, peaceful bays and ripping currents, coral-covered ridges, with both shore- and boat-diving. Expect to see mantas, whale sharks and, from July through October, oceanic sunfish. Diving safaris are becoming the package of choice for those who want to see more of underwater Bali. These are basically hotel/diving and transport packages. Because you're staying near the dive sites, you can do earlier and later dives and avoid the day-tripping crowds from the tourist areas that pack out popular sites. It also allows you to do more dives each day. Snorkelling is available at Tulamben, Amed, Padang Bai and Pemuteran/Menjangan, so non-diving partners and children can often join day trips and safaris. Here are Bali's 10 best: 1. USAT Liberty The Liberty shipwreck is considered Bali's most popular dive site. The American ship USAT Liberty was an armed cargo steamship that was torpedoed by the Japanese in 1942. The years under the sea have transformed it to one of Indonesia's most beautiful artificial reefs. Stunning gorgonian sea fans, huge soft coral trees and big-barrel sponges all flourish here. A resident school of big-eyed jacks live on and around the ship and are unafraid of divers, so it's safe to enter the school and have them whirl around you. The ship is also a haven for emperors, batfish, sweetlips and parrotfish. 2. Tulamben drop-off On the northeast coast, Tulamben Bay receives very plankton-rich waters and, coupled with the fact that the three main dive sites provide totally different physical environments, the bay is a stunning and diverse underwater ecosystem. The black sand in the area brings out the colours of the corals, gorgonians, fish and other marine life. At the south end of the bay, a rocky point falls off sharply underwater to create a deep drop-off where sharks, whale sharks and sunfish have been found. 3. Amed Amed lies to the south, along the eastern coastline. It was traditionally dependent on salt-panning and fishing, and despite the arrival of tourists it's retained that feeling. There are three main dive sites here; head south to the shipwreck at Lipah fishing village, or a bit further south to the drift dive at Gili Selang, Bali's easternmost point. 4. Lipah shipwreck This village is tiny and so is the wreck, which can be found at the inner bay drop-off at the north end of Lipah Bay. Divers can take a boat down the coast, or just drive along the winding coast and walk in. It's full of copper sweepers, a batfish school, hard coral growth and waving sea fans, and can be both dived or snorkelled. Go with a good guide, as the

currents can come up fast and strong. 5. Gili Tepekong This big volcanic hump rises out of the water not far from the Candi Dasa shore on the south-east coast. Underwater, the area is covered with Medusa-like heads that vary in size from huge boulders to small sea gardens. They are adorned with blood-red sea fans, tunicates and sponges. In some spots, the competition for space amid the corals is incredible. Other sites include Gili Mimpang and Gili Biaha. Currents are common in this area, but that means pelagic life like big tuna, jacks, sharks and even mola mola come in here. 6. Blue Lagoon The shallow reefs of Blue Lagoon, near Padang Bai, are used for introductory dives, night dives and long photo excursions. Staghorn coral patch reefs start in only 3m of water. The reef then opens out onto an area with huge coral bommies, soft leather corals and flowing anemones. The area here can be good for macro buffs; there are rumours of a lacey scorpionfish being seen here as well. 7. Napoleon Reef Named for a large Napoleon wrasse seen here, Napoleon Reef is in the north near Pemuteran. It can be dived deep or shallow, day or night. On the northeast end is the Ikan Warung fish house, bustling with various schools. Golden sea fans and large clumps of cotton-candy coral grow beside other gorgonians along the slope. 8. Menjangen Island The drop-offs at Menjangan Island can be a real treat. This is the site of a now abandoned guard post that has a broad channel leading to the beach. Expect to be greeted by batfish. The dive offers spectacular corals and many deep crevices and fissures, as well as small caves. Sleeping groupers and wary big-eyed jacks are found in the dark recesses. 9. Crystal Bay Crystal Bay, on Nusa Penida, is protected and relatively shallow, offering enjoyable conditions for divers of all levels. The bay has two entrances and a large rock sits in the centre. Be careful when diving this central rock, or along the outside edge of the bay, as the current can be strong, sweeping divers out along the outside wall into very tricky diving conditions. When near the drop-off, look for larger creatures, such as molas, eagle rays, dogtooth tuna, sharks and an occasional bumphead wrasse. Schooling surgeonfish are abundant in some spots. 10. Manta Point Lucky divers may have a close encounter with the manta rays that are known to traverse this dive site. One of the mantas is pure white, a truly unearthly creature. Manta Point is located along the high and rugged cliffs of Nusa Penida, so it's not always easy to get there due to the big swells that sometimes hit, but it's worth it to experience these gentle, graceful creatures.

The guys were on a golf tour. No one wanted to room with Mick, because he snored so badly. They decided it wasn't fair to make one of them stay with him the whole time, so they voted to take turns. The first guy slept with Mick and comes to breakfast the next morning with his hair a mess and his eyes all bloodshot. They said, "Man, what happened to you? He said, "Mick snored so loudly, I just sat up and watched him all night." The next night it was a different guy's turn. In the morning, same thing, hair all standing up, eyes all bloodshot. They said, "Man, what happened to you? You look awful! He said, 'Man, that Mick shakes the roof with his snoring.. I watched him all night." The third night was Bill's turn. He was a tanned, older biker, a man's man.. The next morning he came to breakfast bright-eyed and bushytailed. "Good morning!" he said. They couldn't believe it.. They said, "Man, what happened?" He said, "Well, we got ready for bed. I went and tucked Mick into bed, patted him on the arse, and kissed him good night on the lips. Mick sat up and watched me all night."

No English dictionary has been able to adequately explain the difference between the two words "complete" and "finished." In a recent linguistic competition held in London , a Guyanese man named SamsundarBalgobin, was the clear winner. He got a standing ovation lasting over 5 minutes.

With age comes wisdom.

40

His compelling answer resulted in an invitation to dine with the Queen, a trip to travel the world and a case of 25-yearold Eldorado Rum for his answer. His final question was this: "Please tell us how to explain the difference between the two words "COMPLETE" and "FINISHED" in a way that is easy to understand." ( Some people say there is no difference between COMPLETE and FINISHED.) Here is his astute answer: "When you marry the right woman, you are COMPLETE. And when you marry the wrong woman, you are FINISHED. And when the right one catches you with the wrong one, you are COMPLETELY FINISHED."

Clean Shave An old weather-beaten man walks into a barbershop in outback Australia for a shave and a haircut. He tells the barber he can't get all his whiskers off because his cheeks are wrinkled from age. The barber gets a little wooden ball from a cup on the shelf and tells the old man to put it inside his cheek to spread out the skin. When he's finished, the old man tells the barber that was the cleanest shave he'd had in years, but he wanted to know what would have happened if he had accidentally swallowed that little ball. The barber replied, "just bring it back in a couple of days like everyone else does."

This structure is a regularly practiced procedure in Indonesia, whereby the foreigner nominates and Indonesian representative to acquire the land and to hold the 'freehold' title (Hak Milik) on behalf of the foreigner.
