Separation of the Sexes Bali Airport Introduce S e p a r a t e S e c u r i t y Inspection Lines for Departing Male and Female Passengers T h e management of Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport has introduced a trial separation of the sexes in the xray process for all luggage and personal inspection. The “girls-left” and “boysright” process was introduced on January 28, 2014 for passengers departing Bali on both domestic and international flights. Angkasa Pura officials say the new measure is

intended to reduce crowding and bottlenecks during the inspection process. Meanwhile, some passenger are complaining that the new procedure is confusing, separates family and creates confusion on the location of specific pieces of luggage. Airport officials say the new policy is subject to review over time. www.balidiscovery.com

Name Calling Singapore – Indonesian Diplomatic Relations Turn Sour. Will Tourism be Affected? Singapore-Indonesian relations are going through a rough patch at present with leaders from both nations giving each other the cold shoulder. Whether relations will decline further and be felt in tourist visits between the countries remains to be seen. Singapore arrivals to Bali ranks as the 5th most important source of foreign visitors totaling 138,388 visitors to Bali in 2013, an increase of 14.39% over 2012. Meanwhile, Indonesia is the largest source of tourism visitors to the Island Republic. The current ill will in IndonesianSingapore relations quite literally relates to "name calling" - the Indonesian decision to name a new naval frigate the Usman Harum in recognition of two Indonesian military offices who were hung in 1968 by Singapore for the bombing of a business place in Singapore on March 10, 1965, that left 3 dead and 33 injured. The bombing took place in the waning days of the Soekarno regime and its “konfrontasi” opposition to the short-lived unification of Malaysia and Singapore. The two marines sent to perform the bombing are seen as “heroes” in Indonesia and buried side-by-side at the Kalibata National Heroes Cemetery. Oblivious to the fundamental shift in power and idealogiy underway in Jakarta at the time, Singapore

2

steadfastly refused repeated pleas for clemency from Indonesia's “New Order” leaders and hung the two men on October 17, 1968. The resulting period of chilly relations between Singapore and Indonesia only turned a new page four years later in 1972 when Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, on an official visit to Indonesia, paused to pay respects at the graves of the two men in Jakarta. Singapore's current indignation with Indonesia's decision to name a ship after two men seen as terrorist by Singaporeans, has seen public statements of protest emanate from Singapore, the indignant “unfriending” on Facebook by Singapore's Prime Minister of Indonesian President Yudhoyono, and a formal notice from Singapore's Armed Forces that the Usman Harun would never be allowed to sail in Singapore waters. Indonesian military circles have responded, scolding Singapore, saying how Indonesia decides to honor fallen heroes was

an entirely domestic concern. In what may been an illconsidered step by Singapore to demonstrate its indignation with Indonesia, an invitation to General Moeldoko, Commander of the Indonesian Armed Forces and a following contingent of 100 officers to the Singapore Air Show was abruptly withdrawn by Singapore authorites, L a t e r, S i n g a p o r e o n reconsideration renewed their invitation to Moeldoko who responded by saying if his men weren't welcome in Singapore, then he had no intention of accepting Singapore's on-again-off-again invitation to the Internaitonal Air Show. Moeldoko also took the opportunity to explain to Singapore, via statements made to the press, that Indonesia had no desire to reopen old wounds in naming the new frigate Usman-Harun, but at the same time viewed Singapore's reaction of withdrawing invitations to 100 of his officer to the Singapore Air Show as an over-reaction. It now remains to be seen when relations between Singapore and Indonesia will once again thaw and if current animosities will affect two-way tourism flows, and which side will make the first steps towards rapprochement. www.balidiscovery.com

Biker leads police on chase

BALI THE RIGHT WAY G’day again punters and welcome to the latest and greatest newspaper in Bali. We are proud to announce that from this week we will be distributing 3000 copies of the paper each week in and around Bali. This gives us about the best foot print you could possibly hope for as an advertiser with us and an incredible help to all our sponsors. In addition to this we are almost complete in negotiations for a few key distribution points back home in Australia, which will further benefit aliasj@kutaweekly.com our sponsors and be a rather substancial benefit to the actual island of Bali. The powers that be, work very hard to make Bali about as best as it can be, for all who travel here and as a legal, licenced and tax paying business on the island we are trying our best to do our bit to further promote the island and what it has on offer. We really only try to target the true to life, on the ground, positive things that are happening every day on the island and have pushed very hard over the last almost seven years we have been in operation to do the same. In general terms, it is promoting many positive things that are happening here instead of the usual negative crap that is usually spread from page to page in about every other legal bonafide newspaper in the western world that is causing all manner of trouble to the fragile economy in Bali. Just look at the media frenzy we discussed in the last few weeks and the appalling way in which these people conducted themselves as profesional journos. Anyways, the only way forward is to take good solid steps and this is what we are doing. This may not be suitable to some people that cant afford to be involved within our pages and for the purpose of each person making their own decision, this is fine, but, at the end of the day you get what you pay for. You either want to be a part of something that is a legal attempt at promoting the island and its fantastic culture to the world, as a trusted profesional Pies supporter would, or you don't. Its as simple as that. Holy hell, I can hear the bean counters now trying to work out how to fit some space in their budgets to get on board and help this local newspaper stick out from the crowd and actually do something positive for the I guess you would have to factor in what the newspaper staff have spent with you over the advertising period to do that wouldn't you ??? oops, I meant factor in what you “apparently” got in relation to branding, oops there I go again, factor in what you felt you needed to get back as a fair return ?? factor something in maybe like good business acumen and the ability to actually act as a manager and not a weak little wage earning puppet is more like the truth, oops there I go again, but I guess its been a crappy week with the Cats getting up over the Pies by 2 bloody points at the season opener. Sorry about the ramble folks, I got a tad wayward and went left for a second, never mind and moving along,

The fight is on between San Antonio police and a motorcycle rider who posted a video on Facebook that shows him zooming through interstate traffic at speeds up to 100 mph with a message, "Catch me if you can." The police, who are calling the biker a high-priority suspect, have posted clips on their own Facebook site showing him weaving in and out among cars on a busy San Antonio highway. "When we catch him, he has a lot more to answer to, but we want to get him off the street," said police spokesman, Sergeant Javier

Salazar. Police Chief William McManus says the motorcyclist is believed to be 27yearold Alberto Rodriguez. Salazar says police believe Rodriguez is a man facing two felony warrants and a misdemeanour warrant for family

violence. The video, apparently taken by a helmetmounted camera, shows the motorcyclist on a m a j o r r o a d w a y, zipping close to oncoming cars and nearly sideswiping others. I n Te x a s , motorcycle riders must remain in the lanes of traffic and are not allowed to drive down the centre stripe of the highway. The posting on the police's page has unleashed a flood of comments, including one that said "Run fool, run." Salazar said: "When you call negative attention to yourself, bad things happen."

Veteran skydiver and Red Bull air athlete Chuck Berry is no s t r a n g e r t o e x h i l a r a t i n g experiences in breathtaking locations but nothing could have prepared him for the scene near Esperance in Western Australia. Soaring through the air, using his wing suit to glide like a bird above Lake Hillier, the 47-year-old found himself mesmerised by the pink mystery below. "The whole crew was blown away by the lake the whole time we were there," Berry said. "There's just this bright pink lake on an island in the middle of the ocean.

"You've got the deep blue of the ocean, the turquoise blue of the shallows, the stunning white beach, the deep green of the bush and it all makes the pink stick out. "I've been skydiving all around the world for years and I've never seen anything quite like that." Lake Hillier is surrounded by pristine forest on Middle Island in the Recherche Archipelago,

metres from the Southern Ocean and about 120km south-east of Esperance. There is still no scientific consensus on the cause of its bubble-gumpink colour, making it a regular on many "world's most amazing places" lists. New Zealand-born Berry, who has done more than 6000 skydives across the globe, said his flight over Lake Hillier was "by far the most beautiful". "We did five jumps and got the perfect shot on the last one," he said. "This would easily be in my top 10 from 30 years of jumping. "I'd seen the pictures but to see it for real, it was truly incredible."

Beethoven of Japan says he can hear again A composer known as the "Beethoven of Japan" said he had regained some of his hearing ability, a week after setting off a furor by admitting he had used a ghost writer for h i s p o p u l a r symphonies and other music. M a m o r u Samuragochi, a classical musician, became known as an inspirational genius for composing despite losing his hearing. Samuragochi said that he had suffered hearing loss and was not able to hear when he began paying a part-time university professor to write music under his name, a collaboration that went on for 18 years. But the situation had improved. "The truth is that recently I have begun to hear a little again," he said in a statement reported by Japanese media, adding that for the last three years he has been able to follow conversations under certain conditions. Samuragochi, 50, apologized to fans last week for paying Takashi Niigaki to write compositions under

8

his name. Niigakisaid that he had also wondered about the extent of the composer's hearing loss. S a m u r a g o c h i acknowledged he had not been truthful about his hearing when the scandal emerged. "I was thinking only of what would happen after news broke about Mr.Niigaki writing my music, and was unable to tell the truth due to fear," he said. He said he would appear in public soon to apologize and offered to have his hearing tested by experts. German composer Ludwig van Beethoven began suffering hearing loss from about age 30

and withdrew from public performances while continuing to write music. He was almost totally deaf for the last decade of his life. Samuragochi gained international fame for his "Hiroshima Symphony", a tribute to the victims of the 1945 atomic bombing of the Japanese city. Niigaki said last week that he received more than 7 million yen ($68,000) for over 20 songs he wrote for Samuragochi. That includes music being used by Japanese figure skater Daisuke Takahashi for his short program at the Sochi Olympics. Takahashi has said he was "surprised" to hear the news, but had no intention of changing his music. Observers say that part of Samuragochi's popularity was due to promotion by an industry eager to put a human face to classical music and hang on to a shrinking market share as Japanese society rapidly ages. ($1 = 102.3800 Japanese yen)

Crocodiles can climb trees Most people entering crocodile territory keep a wary eye out on water and land, but research suggests they need to look up. Though the reptiles lack obvious physical features to suggest this is possible, crocodiles in fact climb trees all the way to the crowns, according to University of Te n n e s s e e r e s e a r c h e r Vladimir Dinets. Researchers in the climbing study observed crocodiles in Australia, Africa and North America. The study documented crocodiles climbing as high as six feet off the ground. But Dinets said he received anecdotal reports from people who spend time around crocodiles of the reptiles climbing almost 30 feet. Dinets said crocodiles lack the toe and foot structure that would be expected of a climber. However, smaller and juvenile crocodiles in particular were observed climbing vertically while larger ones tended to climb angled trunks and branches, all of which is a measure of the reptiles' spectacular agility, he said. "They just go slowly," he said. "Eventually they get there." The finding was reported in

Herpetology Notes in collaboration with Adam Britton from Charles Darwin University in Australia and Matthew Shirley from the University of Florida. The researchers believe the crocodiles climb to keep a lookout on their territory and to warm themselves in the sun. "The most frequent observations of tree-basking were in areas where there were few places to bask on the ground, implying that the individuals needed alternatives for regulating their body temperature," the authors wrote. "Likewise, their wary nature suggests that climbing leads to improved site surveillance of potential threats and prey." People who spend time around crocodiles have known about the climbing ability for decades, Dinets said, but this

study is the first to thoroughly examine the climbing and basking behavior. Dinets also was coauthor of a widely reported study in 2013 that demonstrated crocodiles used sticks and twigs to hunt, balancing nestbuilding material on their snouts just above the water line to lure birds. The crocodiles lay in wait for hours and lunged when a bird ventured near. That finding was the first reported use of tools by any reptile and the first known case of predators timing the use of lures to a seasonal behaviour in their prey, according to a University of Tennessee press release at the time. The latest climbing study suggests palaeontologists studying extinct species should be cautious about drawing conclusions from fossils, adds Dinets. "If crocodiles were extinct and you only knew them from fossils, you wouldn't be able to guess they climb trees because they don't have any physical adaptations," Dinets said. "Assumptions based on fossils, he said, can be "far less correct than people think."

David Morris wins silver medal for Australia in men's aerials AUSTRALIA, meet your first new medallist at these Sochi Winter Olympic Games whose name is neither Lydia nor Torah. He goes by the name of David Morris and he just won a silver medal in the men's aerials by landing an incredible four straight jumps perfectly while those around him crumbled. “I basically just closed my eyes and waited for the ground to come,” the ecstatic Morris said in describing the quad twisting triple somersault which secured him a silver medal. Morris is a superstar in the making. Everyone in Sochi is just buzzing about the energy and personality of this guy. But the 29-year-old almost never had a career at all in aerial skiing. David Morris is the fish Australian winter sports authorities tried to reject. For years he applied for a scholarship at the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia (OWIA). For years they turned their back. OWIA chief Geoff Lipshut admits he didn't support Morris initially. “I made a bet with the staff that if Dave got a medal at the Olympics then I'd have to admit I was wrong,” he said with admirable if sheepish honesty. All the same, you were wrong Geoff. Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong and wrong. So wrong in fact that other countries began circling. Winter sports powerhouses Switzerland and Canada tried to entice the skier who grew up skiing among the snowgums at Mt Buller, to compete in their colours. Morris, a proud Melburnian, wouldn't have a bar of it. The reason? “He wanted to represent Australia first,” his dad Shane says. “He was actually asked to jump for other countries at one stage but he just wanted to compete for

14

Australia.” When Morris finally secured some prized OWIA funding after having to jump all kinds of hurdles which our ladies' team never had to clear, he made it to the Vancouver Olympics, where he finished a mediocre 13th. Afterwards he almost gave up the sport. “The lowest point was in 2011.

I busted my hip up in a competition and I trained through it and kept jumping and it nearly ruined me,” he recalled. “The injury got me and I wasn't prepared for the rehab and I basically quit the sport, took a year off, just went 'I'm outta here'.” “Then I took time off and decided I wasn't finished. I worked my butt off, I started from the very very bottom of the field again and had to earn back every privilege. I was just so demanding and so angry all the time. “This tops it off, I don't know what to say.”

Morris took to gymnastics and skiing before the age of five, but was unaware of the aerials discipline until former world champion Kirstie Marshall happened to visit his gym for a presentation night. Marshall offered to coach Morris for free in the town of Lilydale on the outskirts of Melbourne. The rest is Olympic history. The four-man final in the event had strong echoes of the ladies' final two nights earlier, with two Chinese athletes, a Belarussian and an Aussie. But Morris's trip to the final was a lot smoother than Lydia Lassila's. While Lydia crashed her first jump and had to make the final 12 the long way round, Morris breezed straight through. That's when things started to get a little tight. As 12 was reduced to eight, Morris squeezed through in eighth place. When eight was reduced to the so-called “super final” of four athletes, he again claimed the last available spot. Phew. Just snuck in. But then, that's Dave. He doesn't have the biggest jumps. But as he says himself, he sticks them more regularly than most. “To be a little bit modest, I'm a good lander, I always have been, it's never been an issue for me,” he said. Under the rules of aerial skiing, the athlete with the lowest score has to jump first in each new round. That means less time to recover, but it also means less time to think about your jump. That might sound like a handicap, but it actually played straight into Morris's hands. Talk to David Morris and he'll tell you he hates over thinking things up there on the hill. He's worked extensively with a sports psychologist to help him stay in a zone halfway between relaxed and focused.

Kuta Weekly Under the rules of aerial skiing, the athlete with the lowest score has to jump first in each new round. He's worked extensively with a sports psychologist to help him stay in a zone halfway between relaxed and focused. “I don't perform well when I'm not switched on but I also don't perform well if I'm too hyped up and too tense and stressed,” he said. So here's the scene you had at about 11pm on a Russian mountain last night. You had an athlete who needed to be switched on but not too switched on. On edge but not too edgy. You had a guy whose best jumps weren't as tricky as some of the top guys in the field, but who has

20 Feb - 26 Feb 2014 (376)

been ranked as high as world number two because he regularly sticks his landings. You basically had the ultimate game of tortoise versus hare. Morris the plodding tortoise, always there, just quietly doing his thing. His competitors were all hares, sometimes brilliant, sometimes fast asleep. “At the start of my career, I was so busy trying to do the perfect jump but it's not really possible in our sport,” he said. “I realised before I'm not the best jumper out there, and if I can't jump perfect, I just want to get it right. I just want to do a nice one. He did that, all right. The atmosphere in the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park was electric as the final four took to the hill. Much of the noise was made by Morris's dad Shane, mum Marg and brother Peter in his spectacularly ugly yet undeniably awesome suit with alternate green-and-gold pants. The Russian crowd played

Sports Corner their part too. They've been terrific at these Games. Morris went first. His was a nice one, just like he said, but nothing too spectacular. He scored 110.41. The Belarussian went next, scoring a whopping 134.5. Then came the Chinese, both of whom crashed. They'll be calling them Chinese chokers back in the People's Republic today. And that was that. Silver to Morris The upshot of all this is that an Aussie who is the favourite athlete among just about every one of his 59 teammates, is now the holder of just our 12th Winter Olympic medal. It was quite a night, and a beautiful follow-up to Lydia Lassila's bronze, after the 32year-old unofficial team matriarch had provided all sorts of encouragement and advice to Morris. “Well, she set the bar pretty high and I just had to take it a little further, didn't I,” Morris laughed.

Weird weather pattern revealed A bizarre 'S' shape which mysteriously appeared on Perth's weather radarsand was immediately dubbed the Rottnest Monster has been explained as the result of a secret Defence training exercise. Conspiracy theorists went into overdrive when the unusual formation appeared on the Bureau of Meteorology's weather radar. The 'S' shape in the middle of the Indian Ocean, around 30km west of Rottnest Island, was theorised to be a cloud formation, a controlled weather pattern or even a massive flock of birds. But a spokesman for Defence has now solved the mystery. "The unusual pattern that appeared on the Bureau of Meteorology's Perth weather radar, was the result of a Defence exercise off

the West Australian coast," a statement said. "The exercise is a regular training activity involving ships and aircraft, that is designed to prepare a Navy warship for an operational deployment. This exercise is ongoing. "The environmental conditions over the West Australian coast at the time of the activity provided a unique opportunity for this routine activity to be visible on the weather radar display."

Clayton David Pettet, 19, says he will have sex at London gallery The Orange Dot on April 2 to "stimulate interesting debate and questions regarding the subject". Mr Pettet, a student at Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design, has labelled the project in which he will have sex with an anonymous male partner, "Art School Stole My Virginity". "When all my peers at school were losing their Virginity it was incredibly hard for me to ask why I was still a Virgin and why it meant so much to Delivery in Kuta, Legian, Tuban the people all around me," Pettet writes on his blog. min orders may apply to other areas "My piece isn't a statement as much as it is a question. The whole aspect of Virginity was OPEN FROM 10am ‘TILL 6pm incredibly emotional for me and has been ever since," "This idea becomes more complex when 0898 0137 019 one considers all types of sexual relations," "Men and men, women and women? 0819 3306 0595 Virginity has almost become heteronormative in its definition. When is the moment of loss for a e-mail:jkbdibali@yahoo.com.au human male? And is virginity even real, for women As the T-Shirt says...boys, and men? Or is it just an ignorant word that was used to dictate the value of a woman's worth pre marriage?" The Orange Dot will stage the live performance and will also exhibit Mr Pettet's works, including a photographic study of the female orgasm.

Unencumbered tops Golden Slipper order as he chases rare juvenile double MAGIC Millions w i n n e r Unencumbered remains at the top of the Golden Slipper order of entry but Blue Diamond hotpot Earthquake s t i l l h o l d s favouritism for the $3.5 million feature. Unencumbered was an impressive winner of the Group 1 $2 million Magic Millions Classic (1200m) last month, defeating Oakleigh Girl by almost a length. His $201,850 in prizemoney has him safely at the top of the order of entry betting as the Bjorn Baker-trained colt aims to emulate Dance Hero (2004) and Phelan Ready (2009) as the only horses to

win the Magic MillionsGolden Slipper double. Earthquake, who is listed as favourite for Saturday's $1 million Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield, retains TAB favouritism for the Golden Slipper at $4.60. Unencumbered was spelled after his Millions victory, with the Testa Rossa colt's

preparation fpr the April 5 showpiece event is set to include the Group 2 $250,000 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on March 1 and the Group 2 $300,000 Todman Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on March 22. Oakleigh Girl, Blue Diamond favourites Earthquake and Rubick and Gai Waterhouse's impressive last-start winner Fighting Sun round out the top five for the Golden Slipper order of entry, although Fighting Sun is an unlikely starter after pulling up extremely sore following Saturday's win at Rosehill Gardens.

Happy ending for two-nosed dog Snuffles, the B e l g i a n shepherd who seems to have two noses, has finally found a home. The 5-monthold pup had four different owners before he ended up at the Dogs Trust Rehoming Centre in Glasgow early this year. Dogs Trust officials say they feared the dog's strange appearance was freaking people out. “Instead of his nostrils being fused together he's got some sort of split there,"

veterinarian Angela McAllister said. She said she had never seen anything like it before and it was caused by a rare birth defect. Luckily for Snuffles his condition does not cause any health problems.

He can also move both sections of his nose independently. Dogs Trust manager Sandra Lawton said it would be a "shame" if a dog as great as Snuffles was passed over because of his looks. S h e described Snuffles as having a "heart of gold" and said he "is an affectionate, energetic fun-loving boy who adores his carers". The man who eventually adopted Snuffles took him for a walk first and said the pup was perfect.

Pastor dies from snake bite Snake-handling US pastor Jamie Coots, who appeared on the N a t i o n a l Geographic television reality show Snake Salvation, has died after being bitten by a snake. A Middlesboro Police Department spokesman said someone reported a snake-bite at a Kentucky church. When the ambulance arrived, they were told that pastor Jamie Coots had gone home. Police arrived at his home and Coots refused medical treatment. Emergency workers

left but when they returned about an hour later, Coots was dead. Coots was caught in January 2013 transporting three rattlesnakes and two copperheads through Knoxville, Tennessee, for his church. Tennessee wildlife officials confiscated the snakes, and

Coots had already lost a finger to snake bite, allowing it to rot and turn black on his hand, exposing the bone before it eventually broke off. His wife Linda kept the blackened fingertip in a jar, telling Coots "I'll always have a piece of you wherever you go," she once said. Coots's grandfather started the Church around 100 years ago and Coots has been a pastor there since 1994.

Human rights to dolphins ?? Armed with an iPad and a letter of support from an Oscarwinning film director, Remus Cernea is pushing a cause that he acknowledges few of his fellow Romanian lawmakers care about, giving dolphins the same rights as humans. The 39-year-old activist politician introduced a bill in parliament last week that would recognize the marine mammals as "non-human persons", on account of their highly developed intelligence, personalities and behaviour patterns. The bill, which will be debated in the Romanian upper house in the coming weeks, would make humans and dolphins equal before the law. Dolphin killers would be given the same

sentences as murderers of human beings. The bill would also ban the use of dolphins in live entertainment shows. The aim of the bill is to help protect Romania's indigenous dolphins in the Black Sea, Cernea said. It would also add the country's voice to a global movement against dolphin killings. To back his cause, Cernea has received a letter of support from American filmmaker Louie Psihoyos, famed for a 2009

d o c u m e n t a r y, The Cove, about dolphin hunting in Japan. But gathering domestic support may be tough in a year when Romania goes to the polls twice, first in the European elections in May and later to vote for a new president. Animal rights will have to find space alongside issues such as corruption and raising living standards and public services in the European Union's second poorest country. "At this moment, I have no support," Cernea said during a visit to the city of Constanta on the Black Sea coast. "This law asks you to make a huge step, philosophically speaking, to understand and to accept that somehow there is another species which is quite similar as we are," he added.

“TUNED IN”

Jet were an Australian rock band formed in 2001 while attending St Bede's College Mentone in Melbourne. The band consisted of lead guitarist Cameron Muncey, bassist Mark Wilson, and brothers Nic and Chris Cester on vocals/rhythm guitar and drums respectively. The group sold 6.5 million albums. Brothers NicCester and Chris Cester grew up in Dingley Village, a suburb just out of Melbourne, Victoria, and attended St Bede's College Mentone, listening to their father's classic rock records from the 1960s and 1970s, such as The Who, AC/DC, The Easybeats, Faces, The Loved Ones, and particularly The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, and John Lennon. However, according to Nic, it was Australian band You Am I who had the biggest influence on Jet's developing musical tastes: "Hi Fi Way was the most important album of my generation ... I think everyone our age, who played guitar, played You Am I songs for the first time in front of their school assembly ... That was the record that made you realise you could be in an Australian band, you didn't have to be a grunge band and you didn't have to be influenced by American bands. It changed everything.” The brothers decided to form a band with Cameron Muncey, Nic's friend from school and with whom he had previously been in a band, and with bassist Doug Armstrong whom Nic and Chris met while working together at their father's spice factory. During 2001 an old high school friend of Chris' joined the band on keyboard, and it was at this time that the band took their current name. They wanted a short name so when it showed up on festival advertisements, it would be large and bold in print. "Radio Song", from their album Get Born, was written about the troubles that the band had getting recognition at this time. Jet got their big break when seminal Melbourne Punk rock band The Specimens took Jet under their wing and put them on as an opening act at The Duke of Windsor. This is where Dave Powell first saw the band perform and went on to sign them to his management firm Majorbox. The new band met Mark Wilson one night in 2002 at a concert and, despite already having a bass player, asked him to play with them. Wilson was then the bassist in a band called The CA$inos, so he initially declined. However, a few days later he called the band and said he would like to join them instead.

In 2002 the band, consisting of its current members, released the Dirty Sweet EP, which drew its name from the T. Rex song "Bang a Gong (Get It On)". While the band only pressed 1,000 copies, there was such a demand that they pressed 1,000 more. The timing of this record coincided with the breakthrough of The Vines, meaning that international interest in Australian rock bands was high. NME obtained a copy of the single from Dirty Sweet, "Take It or Leave It", and praised it. Elektra Records offered the band a contract and re-released Dirty Sweet in 2003. Get Born (2003) Jet entered the Sunset Sound Studios in Los Angeles with Dave Sardy and James Donovan to produce their debut album Get Born. Sardy had previously produced records for Marilyn Manson and The Dandy Warhols. They also enlisted the services of keyboard maestro Billy Preston for two of the songs. The album derived its name from the blockbuster action movie, The Bourne Identity, starring Matt Damon as Jason Bourne. Halfway through recording, the band received a call from The Rolling Stones offering them a support slot on the Australian leg of their 2003 tour. Jet played more than 200 shows in 2003. Their singles "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" and "Rollover DJ" were voted number one and number nineteen respectively on the 2003 Triple J Hottest 100. "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" appeared on the soundtracks for the video games Madden NFL 2004, Guitar Hero: On Tour and Rock Band, on Strictly Come Dancing and the 2006 animated film Flushed Away, and the 2008 film What Happens in Vegas. It was also part of two major worldwide advertising campaigns for Apple'siPod and iMac and for Vodafone. "Rollover DJ" features on the soundtrack to PlayStation 2 game Gran Turismo 4. Get Born also includes the song "Timothy", dedicated to deceased brother of vocalist/guitarist Cameron Muncey, who died before Cameron was born. Due to the sensitive nature of the song, the band rarely plays "Timothy" live.

Makeover Miracles

20 Feb - 26 Feb 2014

Aries Mar 21 - Apr 20 We know when something appears 'too good to be true'. We're often skilled at spotting insincerity or deceit, most of the time, anyway. When faced with something that, at a glance, appears to represent something we feel delighted with initially but know instinctively that we ought to be wary of it, we can be a bit too quick to focus on what appears positive or 'above board' rather than what ought to be given the benefit of doubt. Your head is very much liking what's it's analyzing this week. Your heart is right in requesting you approach it cautiously.

Libra Sep 24 - Oct 23 A little bit of humor will go a very long way now. It's important to understand it is not my intention to make you feel like an Eyeore-like individual or someone whom others might feel has had a humor bypass. However, a situation in your world could be taken more seriously than it deserves to be taken. You could be reading too much seriousness into something that simply doesn't require it. That's why it's important to adopt a much more relaxed attitude toward it and, this week, that's what you're likely to discover for yourself. So smile. And relax.

Taurus Apr 21 - May 21 If we were able to use a spacecraft that moves as fast as the fastest thing ever created, it would take us nearly 6000 years to travel one light year. The nearest star is about 4 light years away, so even at this speed it would take us almost 25,000 years to get there. Despite how far away so much of what we are able to see really is, much is closer to us than we believe. Our own planet is more accessible than it used to be, even in recent years. This week, despite your distance from someone, you can offer them something heartwarming that they will truly appreciate.

Scorpio Oct 24 - Nov 22 People have different ideas about what constitutes 'selfishness'. When we give constantly, we tend to do so to make us feel good about ourselves. But when people grow used to our giving and we find that we're receiving little in the way of gratitude, we're seen as selfish when we withdraw our support. This week brings essential focus on what you need, why you need it and why it's time to address specific needs. There is, however, one person whose support you can count on. Let this week's developments remind you of that.

Gemini May 22 - Jun 22 Strategies take time to create and even more time to implement. If something's worth doing, then it's obviously worth doing well. Yet, there comes a time when enough thinking and preparing has been done and a brave step forward to implement a strategy has to be taken. You are understandably wondering where you stand with a certain person or when a particular plan will get off the ground. This week brings a pleasing and reassuring development. Expect to see how essential the amount of preparation given has been and how better placed you are for it.

Sagittarius Nov 23 - Dec 21 It's amazing what time combined with pressure can achieve. There are, of course, limits to how much pressure we tolerate. It can also be said that there are clear limitations to how much we can achieve within limited timescales regardless of how hard we try or how much pressure we're put under. Pressure appears to be coming from an individual who believes you share the same goal. Perhaps you do, but might you be more realistic and pragmatic than you-know-who – and might they actually have a hidden agenda of sorts? Developments this week look set to be revealing. Capricorn Dec 22 - Jan 20 Let's talk about 'commitment'. The sky's message couldn't be clearer in terms of a 'merging of energies' in both a personal or professional sense. Some Capricorns will be expected to scribble a signature on a dotted line, others will be discussing and committing to plans for the future. Where uncertainty has existed between you and someone else, from this week, you should see clear signs that a volatile situation is becoming more solid. You are moving closer to a cherished aspiration involving a certain person or organization. It just needs formalizing.

Cancer Jun 23 - Jul 23 Rarely, do police investigators decide a case is 'best left unsolved'. Despite how many investigations seem to get solved in television dramas within the space of one hour, many real cases can take months, years or even decades before they are finally solved. Much depends on the determination of those involved with solving them. You can, if you wish, leave a situation in your world in the belief that it is unsolvable and shouldn't take up any more of your time or thinking. Alternatively, you can bring closure to a drawn-out drama. This week offers the latter. Leo Jun 24 - Aug 23 Are you right and everyone else is wrong? Or might it be the other way around? Perhaps, you're the one investing considerable effort and supporting those around you and, given how much less stress they seem to be experiencing, there's a leaf that can be taken from their book. You know you couldn't 'kick back' in the way others are. You have an important mission to undertake. This week is likely to make you aware of how much more you have to do - and how much others aren't doing. They're not your concern. Focus on what you know to be right and what is working.

Aquarius Jan 21 - Feb 19 Why stand when you can sit? Why walk when you can make use of numerous modes of transportation? Why accept a situation because you believe you must accept it and it is unlikely to ever change? Somewhere in your world, you are resigned to accepting or tolerating something you feel powerless to change. During the coming week, not only will you discover that change is possible, you will also discover that change needn't always be uncomfortable. It's time to apply what you have learned recently to an uncertain situation. This will serve to make it much clearer. Pisces Feb 20 - Mar 20 Even when we have reached a mutually agreeable decision with someone, there is always scope to improve upon it, even slightly. This week, something between you and a certain person or organization gets discussed and agreed. This is likely to culminate with closure surrounding a plan or project that has occupied much of your time of late. A fresh start with a new level of agreement starts this week and looks set to last for a long time to come. All you need to do is be flexible and understanding of someone else's point of view.

Virgo Aug 24 - Sep 23 Many people are quick to say they don't care what others think about them. That might be true to some extent but we all know how others' opinions count in at least one way. You have recently taken a brave step forward in some way that isn't without some degree of controversy attached. You have probably already identified those who are supportive of what you've undertaken and those who, well, have yet to properly understand or accept what it is you've started. The coming week might bring tension to head but this clearing of the air is precisely what is needed.

PURA BESAKIH it is done 55 times a year. Wuku calendar meaning is week, and one of system done in Bali. 210 days (30 weeks) are assumed to be one year in the Wuku calendar. Odalan is the anniversary of the establishment festival of each temple. Moreover, it crowds so that it is not possible to move by the worshipper from various place, when it is a grand festival once in every 10 years and 100 years. Therefore, the possibility that the tourist meets a wonderful festival is very high. It rains easily in the afternoon, and the fog occurs easily, too. Going in the morning recommends it. Going early morning to see sunrise recommends it. Gunung Agung becomes thin purple by the sunrise. This scenery is very fantastic atmosphere. And the stripe of light looks as if god's road, and it becomes impossible to be impressed by the mysterious scenery, and to say anything. The person who is the pagan might be able also to see god's appearance at this time. Hazards: The peddler is considerably persistent. Work hard and keep refusing. The local guide of high priced is considerably persistent. They say, "The holy guide who serves God" and approach. However, only the contracted guide can enter the temple in Pura Besakih. Recently, sightseeing in Pura Besakih is avoided, because there are a lot of Penataran Agung is at the center. The tourist must troubles of the expensive guide. not enter in the temple. It is easy to shake rain because it is the foot in In Pura Besakih that head temple of Balinese gunung Agung. Bringing the umbrella and the raincoat Hinduism, a lot of festivals are held in one year. Even if I recommends it. count only Odalan in Pura Besakih by the Wuku calendar, Pura Besakih is in the place of about 3,000 feet on the mountainside in Mt. Gunung Agung. The Besakih's name is come from the word of "Basuki", it is the old language from Sanskrit "Wasuki". "Basuki" meaning is congratulation in Sanskrit. There is a sage gate that is called "Candi Bentar", it is built with basalt like thrusting the heaven. Balinese praises the magnificence, they are worshiping it, saying that "Mother's temple". Head temple of Balinese Hinduism. Pura Besakih is one in six representative temples in Bali. The history of Pura Besakih is old, it is said that it was a place of the training of the priest in the 8 century. Afterwards, the position was established as a temple for royal family's funeral at Gelgel dynasty in the 16th century. Three temples where three representative gods (Shiva, Brahma, and Vishnu) of Hinduism are enshrined are centers, and a lot of shrines are built in the circumference. PROPERTY OWNERSHIP IN INDONESIA As a foreigner, there is a number of ways that can lead to you owning your dream property in Bali. The best option for you will depend on your personal situation, the type of property, risk factors and the type of investment model. Even though it states in Indonesian law that foreigners are not allowed to hold a 'freehold' land title, there are ways that have been in practice for a number of years that enable foreigners to control a freehold title indirectly or to hold a leasehold title in their own name. RIGHT OF USE (HAK PAKAI) This is the right of use over state-owned (crown land) or property owned by public or private persons/entities for a specific purpose for (generally) a finite period and occasionally for an indefinite period. This land right may not be sold, exchanged or transferred unless explicitly state in an agreement. Hak pakai may be held by and Indonesian

individual or entity. Or foreigner permanently domiciled in Indonesia, or a foreign legal entity with a representative office in Indonesia such as foreign Banks, embassies, etc. NOMINEE SYSTEM FOR HAK MILIK This structure is a regularly practiced procedure in Indonesia, whereby the foreigner nominates and Indonesian representative to acquire the land and to hold the 'freehold' title (Hak Milik) on behalf of the foreigner. Ownership of the land is transferred from the previous owner to the Indonesian nominee. The foreigner and the Indonesian nominee then sign an agreement which recognizes the Indonesian nominee as the legal owner of the property whilst declaring the foreigner as the rightful owner of the property. This agreement denotes that the Indonesian nominee will carry out any directives from the foreigner regarding the land. This agreement must always be concluded in the presence of a public notary.
