Schapelle Corby Expected Released from Prison. The Australian media – described in some quarters as poised for a feeding frenzy – spent an entire weekend parked outside the gates of Bali's Kerobokan Prison awaiting the release on parole of convicted drug smuggler Schapelle Leigh Corby. Early on Monday, February 10, 2014, Corby was shuffled

past reporters and into a waiting van to bring her to State Prosecutor's Office in Denpasar to complete the paperwork that will set her free on on a leash until July 2017 when her parole period end. With some Indonesian legislators calling for Corby's release after nine years in prison be delayed due to the current poor state of relations between Indonesian and Australia, the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights has taken pains to say the decision to grant parole was not a political decision and based solely on the Australian woman's fulfillment of the s u b s t a n t i v e a n d administrative requirements. Quoted by the State News Agency Antara, the Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Amir Syamsuddin, told the press on Friday, February 7, 2014: “These are rights stipulated in government regulations and various government rules. Therefore, in my capacity as Minister, (it's

my job) to enforce the l a w. In d o n e s i a r e m a i n s committed to the impartial a p p l i c a t i o n o f t h e l a w, especially as it relates to the granting of parole.” Corby's release on parole is just one among 1,291 prisoners being granted similar parole. Although the Minister has signed the formal certificate of parole the week before, Corby remained in prison in Bali until Monday when a hard copy of the parole order was delivered to Bali prison officials. Schapelle Corby must remain in Bali, reporting to police on a regular basis, until July 2017 when her period of parole ends and she wlll likely deported from the Country. BALI THE RIGHT WAY Gday again punters and welcome to the latest on the street in Bali. A huge week has been had by all and sundry at the our office with the winter olympics starting and most things being telecast late at night, meaning a heap of sleep deprivation in the ranks. Its been a special kind of week for one Aussie traveller who was given an official parole after more than nine years in what has been coined hotel K. I think we all know who Im writing about and to comment aliasj@kutaweekly.com on the circus that was shown on the television the morning of her release and to say anything other than disgracefull would be an understatement. I watched along with many other people at the absolute bedlam the media pack performed as this paroled prisoner was released to home detention on the island, the entire time thinking these people call themselves professionals. The poor girl was knocked, pushed and even hit to the ground while trying to enter the bus to go and finalize the paper work that has taken many years to get over the line by the powers that be and people wonder why its taken so long. Indonesia, whether people like it or not run a fairly decent country and knew that this would be on the cards, hence the extra security involved around her parole release. The powers that be are not really keen on any publicity when it comes to crime, as they keep their dirty laundry like the rest of us, in house, so whether you like it or not, that's the way it is. Now, these pricks that are employed to get pictures and footage of the event acted like it was a pride of lions at a feed and in my opinion acted about as unprofessional as anything I've seen in my career. I can sum it up in two words, Fucking Pathetic. Do you think this girl is going to try and spoil any chance that she has at her parole by flaunting herself to every camera that gets jammed in her face?? I think not, and do you think for one minute that the family would endorse that ?? I think not again. With my little, probably unheard voice in this paper, I would respectfully ask these vulchers to back off and respect this girls space. When she has the ability to talk to you, Im certain she will, but chasing her on a motorbike down the street, isn’t going to do anyone, any good at this point in time. Back off you arse holes. On a final note regarding the subject, as it isn’t a topic that we traditionally put in our feel good paper, I think I speak for almost all Australians when I say thank you to the powers that be in Indonesia for the consideration given to the case and the granting of bail to the prisoner. At the end of the day I imagine it was a very political jumble and would have been a very complicated thing to deal with but in the end they have done what they feel is best, and in this instance it works for all concerned. Thank you very much for the consideration and action involved. Ok folks that's about all I wanted to get off my chest this week, and right before the footy starts again for the year. I see they are saying 18 games in 18 days and straight away my liver yelled out HELLPPPPP. I can see 18 days of punishment on the way, but I guess it will get me into training for when the real footy season starts, then my loyal readers you will have to get used too “Karn The Pies” every week and wont that be fun. Bali's Mangrove Damaged by Oil Spill PT Indonesia P o w e r t o Blame for Damage to Protected Mangrove Near Benoa Caused by Leaking Fuel Pipe Oil leaks from a pipeline owned by PT Indonesia Power have soiled and damaged a twohectare area of mangroves near Benoa. The leak occurred on Wednesday, February 5, 2014, releasing “dozens of liters” of marine fuel oil and high sped diesel fuel into the environmentally sensitive area. Clean up efforts are

underway but there has bee no formal estimate of the damage to sea life, birds and mangrove flora. The offending pipeline is located between the Denpasar tollgate and the Benoa port. Indonesia Power who owns the pipeline is a subsidiary of PT PLN – the State Power Board,

The Jakarta Post reports that workers were spraying the oil slick with dispersant and endeavoring to clean the mangrove. Worker claim the clean up was concluded in 24hours with a residual amount of oil still left clinging to the exterior of the pipeline. Ownership of the land is transferred from the previous owner to the Indonesian nominee. The foreigner and the Indonesian nominee then sign an agreement which recognizes the Indonesian nominee as the legal owner of the property whilst declaring the foreigner as the rightful owner of the property. Australia's largest jellyfish washes ashore season, and growing to sizes larger than normal. Theories range from warmer water to a different chemical composition in the ocean. An El Paso man faces up to 18 months in jail after pleading guilty to urinating on the Alamo, the iconic structure seen by many as the symbol of the Texas spirit. "The message is, 'don't whiz on the Alamo,'" Bexar County District Attorney Susan Reed, said in a statement that added she would oppose any request for probation. Daniel Athens, 23, pleaded guilty in a San Antonio court to the felony of Criminal Mischief of a

Public Monument or Place of Human Burial, which carries a punishment of up to two years in prison. Lawyers for Athens are working on a plea bargain with prosecutors, who are seeking 18 months in prison and drawing a line in the sand for a sentence that includes jail time. Athens was arrested in April 2012 after an Alamo Ranger, one of the police officers who guard the state's No. 1 tourist attraction, saw him relieve himself on the 260-year-old limestone facade of the building. As part of a plea deal, Athens will have to pay $4,000 to repair any damage he caused.

The Alamo was constructed in the 1750s by Spanish colonists as a chapel to bring Christianity to the native peoples of what is now Texas. It is best known for the 1836 battle between the Mexican Army and Texas settlers fighting for independence from Mexico. The Alamo has suffered its share of urinary insults over the years, the most famous was from British rocker OzzyOsbourne, who in 1982 urinated on the Cenotaph, a memorial to the Texans killed at the battle. Osbourne was banned from the city by the city council, a symbolic move that was later rescinded after he donated $10,000 for the Alamo's upkeep.

Flying in Thin Air Tiger Air Mandala Curtails 11 Routes to Save Scarce Funds The shaky financial footing of a large number of Indonesian airlines continues to inflict pain and inconvenience on the flying public. Tiger air Mandala Airline's decision to suspend service on several of their routes has evoked strong criticism from the Association of Indonesian Ticket Agents (Astindo). Elly Hutabarat, the chairman of Astindo, told the State News Agency Antara on Saturday, February 8, 2014: “We deeply regret w h a t ' s h a p p e n i n g Ti g e r a i r Mandala. This is not an isolated case, but has happened several time with air carriers.” As reported by Bisnis.com, Tiger air Mandala suddenly closed eleven domestic and regional air routes starting from February until April 2014. Passengers were left holding paid-for tickets on the suspended air routes. Hutabarat complained that there are many airlines that have gone bankrupt and left travel agents and ticket agents with substantial losses as a result.

Hutabarat named 11 failed Indonesian airlines, including: Sempati Air, AW air, Indonesia Airlines, Bouraq, Adam Air, Kartika Airlines, Riau Airlines, Linus Air, Pacific Royal, Star Air and Batavia Air. Complaining that many of these airlines simply closed their doors and left unpaid debts to travel agents, Hutabarat said, “hopefully, Mandala has the good faith to return 100% of tickets already paid without any cuts for administration and allows their old tickets to be used for other destinations they serve." At this point, Mandala continues to operate but with a reduced number of air routes.

Starfish 'ripping off their own arms' Starfish off the United States coastline are ripping off their own appendages and dying in their thousands. The spectacle on the North American Pacific coast is baffling scientists. The mass die-off is leaving dismembered piles of mush that were once toughened starfish, according to reports. Scientists began noticing the deaths last year and labelled it 'sea star wasting syndrome'. Diver Laura James, who has been documenting the deaths in the ocean off Washington, first noticed the starfish near her home in Puget Sound. "There were just splats. It looked like somebody had taken a

laser gun and just zapped them and they just vaporized," she said. Ben Miner, a Western Washington University biology professor who is studying the star fish, said the arms just appeared to "crawl away and the guts just spilled out". "The arms just crawl away

Prof. Miner said that even healthy starfish placed in tanks without sick individuals still d e v e l o p e d symptoms at the same rate. Scientists do not know if a pathogen or ocean acidification is causing the illness. The scientific world considers getting to the bottom of this m a s s d e a t h important because of the ecological effect it could have. Starfish prey upon various organisms, which if go unchecked could populate out of control. "These are ecologically important species," marine epidemiologist Drew Harvellsaid.

"I'll hump anything. I'll hump the cat, a pillow, the

table, fence posts, whatever. I want to hump everything I see." Yesterday my owner had just got out of the shower and was bending down to dry her toes, and I just couldn't help myself. Cancer cure with smartphone game Gaming enthusiasts across the world can now join the search for cancer cures with a citizen science project using a smartphone game to help researchers analyse vast volumes of genetic data from tumour samples. Called "Play to Cure Genes in Space", the spaceship game is designed for smartphones and was launched by the charity Cancer Research UK (CRUK), which hopes it will speed up the decoding of data to reveal patterns of the genetic faults that cause cancers to grow and spread. Travelling in a world set 800 years in the future, players guide a fast-paced spaceship safely through a hazard-strewn intergalactic assault course, gathering along the way a fictional precious cargo called "Element Alpha". Each time a player steers the ship to follow the Element Alpha path, they also reveal patterns and, unwittingly, provide analysis of variations in the genetic data, explained Hannah Keartland, who led the project for CRUK and unveiled the game at a London launch. It is this information that will be fed back to CRUK scientists. And to ensure accuracy, each section of gene data will be tracked by several different players. "We want anyone, anywhere, at any age, to download this game and play it," said Keartland. If everyone around the world were to play the game for even a couple of minutes each, she said, "we could have an absolutely mind-blowing impact in terms of accelerating research".

An estimated 14 million people worldwide are diagnosed with cancer each year and that toll is expected to rise to 22 million a year within the next 20 years, according to a World Health Organization report. Scientists will use the

information gathered from "Genes in Space" players to work out which genes are faulty in cancer patients. This in turn should help them develop new drugs that target specific genetic faults, and new ways to figure out how to stop cancer developing in the first place. "It's not just a game, it's way of saving lives," said Tony Selman, a 72-year-old prostate cancer survivor from Middlesex, central England, who helped launch the new game. Play to Cure is CRUK's second citizen project following a similar but smaller one last year called CellSlider which the charity said cut the time needed for researchers to analyze a set of breast cancer samples from 18 months to three months. Professor Carlos Caldas, an oncologist at CRUK's Cambridge Institute, explained that it works by using data generated by screening t o o l s c a l l e d g e n e microarrayswhich scientists use to look for areas of the human genome that show up faults in

cancer patients a sign they may be causing the disease. Gene microarrays are useful for analyzing large genetic faults known as copy number alterationswhen a whole section of the chromosome is gained or lost. Since these large sections of chromosomes may involve many different genes, scientists need a way to work out which are the ones driving cancer known as oncogenes and which ones are just "passenger" genes along for the ride, he said. S c i e n t i s t s generally use computer software to trawl through the huge amounts of data g e n e r a t e d b y microarrays to spot the precise locations of copy number changes, but in many cases these are not accurate enough. â&#x20AC;&#x153;Computers are very good, but they are not perfect," Caldas told reporters. "The human eye is still the best technology we have for picking up these patterns, and...Genes in Space is harnessing that power."

Two men charged for theft of violin Two Wisconsin men were charged Friday with stealing a r a r e Stradivarius violin worth millions of dollars from a c o n c e r t violinist, prosecutors said. The violin, which was made in 1715 and had an appraised value of $5 million for insurance purposes, was recovered from a Milwaukee residence, where it had been stored in a suitcase in the attic, police said. Salah Jones, 41, and Universal Knowledge Allah, 36, were charged with felony robbery and Allah was also charged with marijuana possession. A 32-yearold woman arrested in connection with the crime, has not been charged. Early last week, the thieves took the violin after incapacitating concert musician Frank Almond with a stun gun as he left a concert in suburban Milwaukee, authorities said.

Jones told a witness that stealing a Stradivarius violin "was his dream theft" because of its potential value and it could be "snatched from the hands of a musician as they walk down the street," the criminal complaint said. The complaint said Jones had Allah buy the Taser for him last summer because he did not have a permit for it. A few months later, Jones told Allah that he needed the Taser to acquire an instrument that was rare and one of a kind, the complaint said. Before the theft, Allah retrieved the Taser from a safe, it said. After his arrest, Jones told authorities they could find the

violin in a black suitcase in an attic in a residence on the city's south side, according to the complaint. The socalled Lipinski Stradivarius had been on loan indefinitely to Almond from a private owner. It is one of roughly 600 violins, violas and cellos still in existence that were built by the famed Italian artisan Antonio Stradivari. Almond said he plans to play the violin during a performance in suburban Milwaukee. "We can now celebrate the wonderful resolution of this most recent chapter in the instrument's storied life," Almond said in a statement posted on the website of the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts, where he is scheduled to play. Bond was set at $10,000 for Jones and at $500 for Allah during appearances Friday afternoon in Milwaukee County District Court.

After a long off season footy is finally back and here's why we love it THE new look AFL preseason kicks off on Wednesday and what better way to celebrate 18 games in 18 days than the 18 things we love about footy's return.

Regional visits While the regular season is almost exclusively played in Australia's capital cities, the preseason competition takes the game to the fans in regional areas. This season games will be played in Wagga, Wangaratta, Joondalup and Townsville. In past years, Berri (SA), Mandurah (WA), Shepparton (Vic) and Cooparoo (Qld) have also hosted matches. 7. The best pre-season ever cliche It's one of the most-loved clichés during the AFL pre-season. Each and every year clubs are having their “best pre-season ever” and every player is “flying” on the track. In a game when “every match

is important” and the season is taken “week by week”, this cliche endures. 8. New rules Every year the AFL comes out with a new rule to be trialled during the pre-season. In the past we've seen ideas such as a free kick paid against the player who last touched the ball before it went out of bounds and rules that are now used in the regular season such as the substitute and this season an interchange cap. This year will see changes to marking contests, contact below the knee and limiting the number of runners on the ground. 9. Super Goals Introduced in 2003, the Super Goal is worth nine points when kicked from outside 50m. One of the AFL's best creations, it deserves its own place in this countdown. Melbourne's Paul Wheatley slotted the first-ever Super Goal in and the likes of Lance Franklin, Travis Cloke and Daniel Rich have been profiting ever since. 10. Fool's Gold Carlton, 2005. Brisbane Lions, 2013. Nearly every season there is one team that performs above and beyond expectations in the pre-season only to crash and burn when the real action begins. Perhaps there is no better example of this than the Blues of 2005 - the only side to have won the pre-season competition and wooden spoon in the same year. 11. A clean slate It's a new season and clubs who've had a difficult season the year before can finally get back on the field and prove their worth. Essendon is still being hounded by the supplements scandal of 2013 while Adelaide and West Coast are looking to rebound from disappointing campaigns. Continue next page

From the young guns who promise to be the future stars of the game to the crazy rules, crazy trophies and crazy guernseys, the pre-season offers a smorgasbord for we footy fans. So, without further ado, let's look at what makes this time of year so great. 1. Footy's back, finally All the talking and preseason training is over as the action returns to the field and we countdown to the season proper. It may not be the real deal but after almost five months of offseason gossip and whispers we'll take anything and everything. Wednesday can't come soon enough. 2. First look at the draftees The pre-season is the first time we get a look at our club's new draftees. They bring a sense of hope to the new season, especially for those teams looking to move up the ladder. The likes of Tom Boyd, Josh Kelly, James Aish, Luke McDonald and Dominic Sheed are sure to get plenty of attention. 3. New faces in new colours Excited about the superstar your club picked up in trade week or via free agency? The likes of Gary Ablett, Brendon Goddard and Chris Judd bring new hope to a club looking for premiership success. Although for every Ablett there is a Jade Rawlings or Israel Folau. Can the likes of Heath Shaw, Lance Franklin and Paul Chapman help their team take the next step? 4. Special guernseys Last week, we looked at some of the best and worst preseason jumpers to grace an AFL ground. It is certainly one of the

unique aspects of the pre-season competition (not to mention fundraising). St Kilda will revive the haloed stick man this season. Hawthorn wore this horrific jumper in the 1999 pre-season. 5. Michael Tuck Medal - a tribute Alas, with the NAB Cup coming to an end, so too will the Michael Tuck Medal. Handed out to the best player in the pre-season competition's grand final, the medal was first awarded in 1992. Hopefully the AFL can find a new way to honour Australian football games record holder. Something to talk about around the water cooler With all due respect to the summer sports, we can only talk about Shane Watson's calf, Sydney FC's coaching merry-go-round and Bernard Tomic's behaviour for so long. Footy's return also heralds the return of office rivalries, debate over who will make the top eight and whether Lance Franklin will succeed in Sydney. 13. Dane Swan's updated ink It seems like every year the tattooed Magpie had added a new piece of art to his body. However, it's not just Swan who is disappearing underneath a layer of ink as a legion of the AFL's best players are now following suit. The likes of teammate Dayne Beams, Richmond's Dustin Martin, new Swan Lance Franklin and Fremantle's Michael Walters are also sporting “sleeves”. We're not sure Adam Cooney's “sock” counts though. 14. Stud to dud Every year there's a few players burning up the track (another favourite cliche) but fail to deliver come the season proper. Last year it was Patrick Karnezis, who

Paul Roos' contempt/Grant Thomas' smile Coaches haven't always been great lovers of the preseason competition as injuries, in particular, take their toll. While coaching Sydney, Paul Roos was famous for not giving a *cough, cough* about practice matches. He was once heard telling Jarrad McVeigh to push forward but not to kick any goals. Former Saints mentor Grant Thomas also provided one of the best worst moments in NAB Cup history. In 2004 as he and Lenny Hayes posed with the trophy after winning the grand final, they looked like someone had died. 16. SuperCoach study It's that time of year when hundreds of thousands of fantasy football fanatics are lost to the world for weeks on end. The important questions must be answered; is Player X better than Player Y? Who's in pre-season

Crazy trophies As the pre-season competition has changed, so too has the trophy. For the craziest trophy, the cake has to go to the Wizard Cup. A huge bright orange and steel cone that looks more like the dog collars used by vets. The NAB Cup was certainly an improvement, although it still looked like an ancient Greek vase with players etched into the side of it. 18. Mike Sheahan's Top 50 The mystical pre-season Top 50 certainly creates its fair share of debate. We still don't know when the traditional player rankings will be announced but chances are Gary Ablett will sit upon the No.1 throne for the second season in a row. We wait with bated breath to find out who will feature in Mike's list this season.

Cool for Cats "Cool for Cats" was the second single released from Squeeze's Cool for Cats album. It featured a comparatively rare lead vocal performance from Squeeze lyricist Chris Difford, one of only two occasions he sang lead on a Squeeze single A-side (the other was 1989's "Love Circles"). The song, slightly edited from the album track, peaked at #2 on the UK Singles Chart, making it one of the band's biggest hits. Difford brought a Cockney accent to the way the lyrics were sung which makes it distinctive as well. The title phrase is a reference to the 1950s/60s UK TV series Cool for Cats, the first British series to regularly feature rock 'n' roll music acts. In 1992, thirteen years after its initial release, the track "Cool for Cats" was used in a British TV commercial for milk. The song was then re-issued in the UK, where it charted at #62. The song is also a playable track on Rock Band 2. There is a persistent rumor that one of the two women dancing and singing the distinctive "Cool for Cats" chorus in the video to the song is Michelle Collins, who later found fame as Cindy Beale in BBC TV's EastEnders. However, during a radio interview in 2009, Collins said this was untrue (contradicting a 2002 interview).

Tennessee judge fired A Tennessee judge who ordered a baby's name changed from Messiah to Martin, saying the former was reserved for Jesus Christ, has been fired, court officials said. Child Support Magistrate Lu Ann Ballew of Cocke County in eastern Tennessee last August ordered a boy's first name changed over the objections of his parents when they appeared before her seeking to settle other issues. O. Duane Slone, presiding judge of the state's fourth judicial district, terminated Ballew's appointment, according to court documents. Slone did not give a reason in his order, but Ballew had previously been cited by the Tennessee Board of Judicial Conduct for an inappropriate religious bias. A hearing is scheduled for March 3.

Ballew could not be reached for comment. The board's chair, Judge Chris Craft of Shelby County, said in a statement that the board still has jurisdiction over Ballew, even though she is no longer on the bench. Craft wrote that it is the duty of the board to inquire into the "commission of any act calculated to reflect unfavourably upon the judiciary of the state." Both the mother, Jaleesa Martin, and the father, Jawaan McCullough, were insisting on their

r e s p e c t i v e surnames for baby Messiah. Ballew instead threw out the child's birth name and ordered the boy renamed Martin DeShawn McCullough. " T h e w o r d 'messiah' is a title, and it's a title that has only been earned by one person, and that one person is Jesus Christ," the magistrate said at the time. The parents appealed, and another judge held that Ballew's ruling was unconstitutional. Messiah was the 387th most popular name for boys born in the United States in 2012, based on applications for Social Security cards filed with the U.S. Social Security Administration. In all, there were 762 applications for boys named Messiah in 2012, more than double the 368 applications made in 2011, the Social Security Administration said.

People who lend cars for weddings face jail

A MP says a threat has been made to prosecute people who have lent their cars to family or friends for weddings. Family First MP Robert Brokenshire says several of his constituents in Adelaide have received warning letters after their cars were photographed being used for weddings. He said a letter from the Transport Department claimed anyone running transport passenger services without accreditation can face penalties of up to four years' jail or a $15,000 fine. The owner of a vintage car said he was shocked to get a letter threatening to prosecute him for lending it to a family friend for a wedding. Kevin May says he had been warned of the risk of jail or a fine for lending his 1969 XW GT Falcon to a bridal party. He is demanding the warning be withdrawn immediately, saying it is an infringement of his human rights. "I was quite upset about it at first - I thought it was a joke - and then when I studied the letter properly, you could see it had numbers on there and it was definitely an official letter and I thought 'God, blimey charlie, I was only trying to help someone out'," he said. "I wasn't trying to get a fine -

Russian TV showed pre-recorded footage when fifth Olympic ring failed to open A RUSSIAN television chief has admitted that TV pictures of the Olympic rings glitch at Friday's opening ceremony were doctored, but that it was an open secret. T h e c e r e m o n y, beamed to an estimated TV audience of two billion, got off to a rocky start when one of five illuminated snowflakes suspended above the Fisht stadium and that were supposed to morph into the five Olympic rings failed to materialise. That left the embarrassing sight of four giants rings and one smaller snowflake dangling in a corrupted representation of the Olympic movement's defining symbol. But Ernst brushed off the incident and explained that organisers had already prepared for such an emergency after sweating for three weeks to get the image just right. "The pictures were not edited. There was a version that you saw in the crowd and a version that viewers saw," Konstantin Ernst, the powerful boss of Russia's Channel One TV, said. "We realised that the fifth ring was not going to light up so the mobile TV van sent a signal to the station and we decided to use footage we had already shot before. "It's not a scandal - it's an open secret. It took us three weeks to make it work. One component failed but it did not insult anyone." The charismatic Ernst even turned to Buddhism to support his claims. "There is a saying that you have to kick out the uneven part of a perfectly polished ball to

understand how perfect it is," he said. "That was the ceremony. It allowed us to show how perfect the rest of the show was." Ernst brought rousing applause from Russian reporters when he denounced western media for trying to liken the technical failure to the ability of Russia to put on an Olympic Games. "It is ridiculous to concentrate on one snowflake; it did not stop people from enjoying the show. Many people thought

Ernst also admitted he was aware that Turkey had scrambled an F-16 jet to force down an airliner from Ukraine when an apparently drunk would-be hijacker ordered it to Sochi. The Ukrainian man, brandishing what he said was a detonator, tried to gain access to the cockpit of the aircraft operated by Turkey's Pegasus Airlines with 110 people on board, officials said. The Interfax-Ukraine news agency reported that the man, 45, was inebriated and had neither a gun nor explosives. "I knew of it but I didn't want the performers in the ceremony to be distracted. We had enough adenaline in our veins already," the 53-year-old Ernst said.

800,000-year-old UK footprints Scientists say they have discovered human footprints in England that are at least 800,000 years old - the most ancient found outside Africa, and the earliest evidence of human life in Northern Europe. A team from the British Museum, the Natural History Museum and the University of London uncovered imprints from up to five individuals in ancient estuary mud at Happisburgh on the country's east coast. British Museum scientist Nick Ashton says the prints are "a tangible link to our earliest human relatives".

"This is an extraordinarily rare discovery," Ashton said. "At first we weren't sure what we were seeing but as we removed any remaining beach sand and sponged off the seawater, it was clear that the hollows resembled prints, perhaps human footprints, and that we needed to record the surface as

quickly as possible before the sea eroded it away," he continued. The scientists say the humans who left the footprints may have been related to Homo antecessor, or "pioneer man", hose fossilised remains have been found in Spain and who died out 800,000 years ago. It is believed the group of early humans who left the prints consisted of one male and several smaller people, likely females and children, the researchers said. The only known footprints believed to be older than the newly discovered set in England are in Laetoli in Tanzania.They have been dated back 3.5 million years.

"I was not the perfect boyfriend, I do regret a lot of stuff I've done in the past and know it may be too late. Since the advertisement was posted on Gumtree, the 28-year-old has been overwhelmed by responses.

"Most of them feel very touched and thank me for (giving them) hope in humans again," he said. "A lot of people are sharing their stories of happy endings, which I loved, and, of course, proposal ideas. "Some people say I should give it to charity but this ring was not designed for charity, it was designed to make a lady happier than ever and a bloke to have the moment where his heart stops and he just can't think of anything else besides his lady." That was the lesson for one German man with severe heart failure and a puzzling mix of symptoms including fever, blindness, deafness and enlarged lymph nodes, which stumped doctors for months. The 55-year-old man was diagnosed only when he was referred to Dr Juergen Schaefer, a fan of the US television medical drama, House. "After five minutes, I knew what was wrong," said Schaefer, who works at the Centre for Undiagnosed Diseases in Marburg, north of Frankfurt. He said the man's symptoms matched up almost perfectly with a patient on an episode in which the fictional Dr Gregory House, played by British actor Hugh Laurie, identified cobalt poisoning as the cause. The series ended in 2012 after an eight-year run. Schaefer regularly uses the television series to teach medical students. When he saw the patient with heart failure in May 2012, he had recently prepared a lecture on the show's cobalt poisoning case, where House's future mother-in-law falls ill after receiving a faulty metal hip. Though the German patient's previous doctors thought he needed a heart transplant, Schaefer and colleagues immediately tested his cobalt levels after he complained his problems started after his last operation to replace a broken ceramic hip. Schaefer said some small fragments of the ceramic hip remained and were grinding into the metal replacement, which leaked cobalt and chromium into the patient's bloodstream. Once the hip was replaced, the patient's heart got better and his other symptoms improved. Schaefer and colleagues wrote about their experience in a case report published online Friday in the journal, Lancet. The patient wasn't identified. "We would have diagnosed this even without Dr. House," Schaefer said. "You could have also typed his symptoms into Google and gotten the diagnosis."
