C a n d i d a t e f o r Legislative Office Says Bali Must Develop a M a s s Tr a n s i t R a i l System. A n I n d o n e s i a n transportation community leader, Anak Agung Ngurah Wiryawan, has stated that Bali needs alternative forms of transportation, such as a train service circling the island. Quoted by the State News Agency Antara, Wiryawan said: “With the congestion of roadways in Bali, especially in the South, the government must be thinking of providing public transportation to facilitate movement.” He continued to say that if plans were not formulated soon, traffic in Bali will become completely congested in 10-15 years time and begin to resemble other areas like Jakarta and Surabaya.

“This is the prediction because the growth in vehicles is outpacing the creation of new roads. There are no limits on vehicle growth, while at the same time additional road capacity is not being built,” said Wiryawan. The former youth leader and candidate for legislative office in the April 2014 elections said he hopes Bali would build a railbased mass transport system connecting the regions with the cities of Bali. www.balidiscovery.com

Where Goes the Bali Economy in 2014? slacken in 2014, causing Bali Economy May Slow i n 2 0 1 4 a s R u p i a h the Indonesian economy to somewhat. W e a k e n s a n d weaken While State budgets will Government Focuses on increase in 2014, the dollar and Elections The chairman of the Bali chapter of the Indonesian Entrepreneurs Association (APINDO), Drs. Panudiana Kuhn predicts that 2014 will be a political year dominated by the legislative election on April 9th and the presidential election on July 9th. Quoted in Bisnis Bali, Panudiana said: “Expenditures in 2014 will be largely dedicate to pay expenses related to holding the elections.” While admitting that the economy in Bali in 2013 was relatively healthy, he warned that foreign exchange would be under threat. The value of the Indonesian Rupiah against the U.S. Dollar will continue to

the cost of many elements of public and private spending will also increase. Citing a case in point, Panudiana mentioned the dramatic cost increase for LPG gas that took effect on January 1, 2014. “At the same time our exports are decreasing, while state-supported fuel and electrical subsidies have

reached Rp. 330 trillion (US$26.4 billion). These factors can deplete foreign exchange reserves,” explained Panudiana. Meanwhile, export figures published by the Bali Statistic Bureau (BPSBali) recorded exports declined 9.07% in October 2013 with total exports valued at US$47.46 million. Handicrafts, fish and prawns, jewelry, woodbased products, ready-to-wear clothing and f u r n i t u r e dominate Bali exports. Panudiana said tourism prospects for Bali remain strong in 2014, warning that security and safety are essential to sustaining Bali's tourism industry. www.balidiscovery.com

BALI THE RIGHT WAY G'day again folks and welcome to the latest in Bali. The weeks seem to be passing us by at a rate of knots and it seems Christmas and New Year's is a distant memory. It seems all but most of the tourists have gone home and gotten back into work to pay off the credit card debts from a great holiday. I always find it strange that the wettest time of the year is when the most amounts of travellers come up for a break, then generally complain that the place is raining all the time?? The aliasj@kutaweekly.com best bet is to come in August when the rains are non-existent and the weather is about at its best. I even think the flights are a heap cheaper at that time of year as well. Anyways, We don't like to publish anything that feels negative in this paper and try to keep it all about easy reading, non-political (except at election time back home) and try to find the most weirdest stories we can to help entertain the people that come here on holidays and enjoy the paper, but, I happened to see a story last week, as I'm sure you all did, in the main stream news about a mother and daughter who travelled to the island and enjoyed a feed of fish and as it turns out had some weird allergic reaction to the meal and both became sick and died shortly thereafter. Now to start with I offer my deepest sympathy to the family's involved who have been thrown this terrible loss and can't even start to imagine what they have to deal with at this stage. A horrid curve ball to be pitched, and one that I hope none of my good friends or family ever have to deal with, but, has anyone noticed how the mainstream media back home has taken this by the horns and is running the crap out of the scoop ?? It occurs to me that these people have nothing better to do than slam the absolute hell out of Bali. If it isn't about accidental road deaths or the one in twenty million drink spikes that apparently happen, they just hammer the buggery out of Bali. Needless to say, this sort of thing doesn't happen anywhere else in the world. I believe the rest of the world is accident free with no tourist crimes or unfortunate accidents ever taking place or are being reported (NOT) but these media houses seem to be on an almost politically driven campaign to undermine the island to the Australian travellers. The fact that the island is a great budget destination is why so many of us travel up here so often, with some of us taking steps to get work permits, pay taxes and invest here. As unfortunate as these accidents are, they just sometimes happen and there is nothing anyone can do to change that. My grandmother said to me once before she passed that “your life is set out for you from the day you are born” and went on to explain that, “no matter what you try to do, you just are not going to change the way it all pans out, so relax, be yourself and enjoy it as best possible” Again I offer my deepest sympathy to the family that has lost these girls, but that doesn't mean all the seafood in Bali is bad. Lastly this week and before closing I'd like to mention the heat wave that's been battering Perth. It seems they have about broken all records and are having to hide in the air-con, stay in the pool or head to the beach to help stay sane. There has been some huge bushfires that have cost about 50 homes at point of writing this ramble and the heat seems to have no end in sight. I hope all my friends down there stay cool and can only say that it will all be over soon then the complaints will be about the cold weather and rain. Ok folks I hope the most of you stay safe, happy, healthy and always try to remember, A real man is one who always finds excuses for others, but never excuses himself. Enjoy Your Week, ALIASJ……………

This will constitute a near 10% increase over the 3.2 million preliminary count of total 2014. tourist visits in 2013. All projections for 2014 In addition Bali is expecting are predicated on the 6.5 million domestic visitors in

Photographer sued over topless photos The management of the Empire State Building filed a $1 million lawsuit against a photographer who shot topless pictures of model atop its iconic 86th floor observatory. Last August, a model climbed to the crowded observation deck and took her top off as 30-year-old photographer Allen Henson captured the image on his cell phone. The photo quickly went viral on the internet and angered the owners of the Empire State Building, one of the most popular tourist attractions in New York City, who said the observation deck was full of tourists, including children, at the time the photo was taken. "We were doing a social experiment," said Henson, adding he has been photographing fashion models for three years and also shot photos of topless women in Central Park and in Manhattan's Peninsula Hotel. Henson began taking the series of photos after becoming aware of a 2013, New York City memorandum that prevents police officers from arresting women who expose their breasts in public. Henson said he wanted to test the social implications of the rule,

40

but added that the pictures atop the Empire State Building were not taken in a professional capacity. "I am a professional photographer, but that doesn't mean that every time I touch a device with a camera on it I must be conducting a photo shoot," he said. Management of the Empire State Building charged in the suit the pictures were produced "for his own commercial purpose" and damaged the landmark's "reputation as a safe and secure family friendly tourist attraction." Every year more than four million visitors from around the

world pay to view the city from the Empire State Building's observatory, over 1,000 feet above ground. Representatives for the Empire State Building did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Henson said the building's guards did not react to the shoot or attempt to remove him from the premises. "On a side note," he said, "she had wonderful breasts."

More Russians are Coming

Russian Honorary Consul in Bali Predicts 15-20% Growth in Russian Market in 2014The Honorary Russian Consul in Bali, Chairul Nuku Kamka, is predicting Russian tourism to Bali will grow 18% in 2014.

As reported by Balidiscovery.com, Russian visitors to Bali through the end of November 2013 totaled 71,177 – an increase of 4.42% over the same eleven months in 2012. Despite the actual figure above, Chairul Nuku Kamka told Bisnis Bali that his office

calculated Russian visitor to Bali increased 18% in 2013 and predicts a 15-20% increase for 2014. The Russia Honorary Consul is optimistic visitor totals will increase because of strong air connections provided by airlines serving Bali such as Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific. He also cited the support of charter flights between Russia and Bali operated by Tran Aero. Describing the Russian tourists served by the Consulate, Nuku Kamka said they were minimalists, rent vehicles for touring and tend to reserve their accommodation in Bali on-line. He said the Russian tourist seldom eat at hotels, preferring to dine at local restaurants. www.balidiscovery.com

PROPERTY OWNERSHIP IN INDONESIA As a foreigner, there is a number of ways that can lead to you owning your dream property in Bali. The best option for you will depend on your personal situation, the type of property, risk factors and the type of investment model. Even though it states in Indonesian law that foreigners are not allowed to hold a 'freehold' land title, there are ways that have been in practice for a number of years that enable foreigners to control a freehold title indirectly or to hold a leasehold title in their own name.

RIGHT OF USE (HAK PAKAI) This is the right of use over state-owned (crown land) or property owned by public or private persons/entities for a specific purpose for (generally) a finite period and occasionally for an indefinite period. This land right may not be sold, exchanged or transferred unless explicitly state in an agreement. Hak pakai may be held by and Indonesian

individual or entity. Or foreigner permanently domiciled in Indonesia, or a foreign legal entity with a representative office in Indonesia such as foreign Banks, embassies, etc.

NOMINEE SYSTEM FOR HAK MILIK This structure is a regularly practiced procedure in Indonesia, whereby the foreigner nominates and Indonesian representative to acquire the land and to hold the 'freehold' title (Hak Milik) on behalf of the foreigner. Ownership of the land is transferred from the previous owner to the Indonesian nominee. The foreigner and the Indonesian nominee then sign an agreement which recognizes the Indonesian nominee as the legal owner of the property whilst declaring the foreigner as the rightful owner of the property. This agreement denotes that the Indonesian nominee will carry out any directives from the foreigner regarding the land. This agreement must always be concluded in the presence of a public notary.

In her 30s, 40s and 50's they are like pears, still nice but hanging a bit. After 60, they are like onions." "Onions?" "Yes, you see them and they make you cry. Banana boxes stuffed with cocaine Boxes filled with bananas and cocaine were delivered to five Berlin supermarkets in what police called a "logistical error" by drug smugglers. Supermarket staff discovered the containers with a total of 140 kg of cocaine shortly before the fruit went on sale to the public, police and customs investigators said. It was the largest discovery of cocaine in Germany's capital in about 15 years and has an estimated black market value of 6 million euros, according to police. "We were of course surprised," senior police officer Olaf Schremm, who heads the local drug investigation department said. "I don't know where the mistake was in the

12

perpetrators' delivery chain." The banana cartons, part of a consignment of 1,134 boxes, were brought by ship from Colombia to Hamburg and delivered to a fruit wholesaler in Berlin. Cocaine was found in seven of them, Schremm said. The boxes were eventually delivered to five supermarkets in the Berlin area, but investigators

the cocaine was unclear. Masked officers in bulletproof vests showed the seized boxes to media. The cocaine will be stored and eventually destroyed. Drugs are often smuggled in container ships from South America to Europe, the police said, adding that it is very difficult to keep track of thousands of containers which are stored in the port of Hamburg for only a short time. "At the end of the day, it's beyond one's control," Schremm said. German authorities say drug smugglers use air mail or couriers to import cocaine more often than ships. In 2012, investigators seized 1.26 metric tonnes of cocaine in total.

Titanic museum to anchor theme park A life-sized replica of the Titanic will b e c o m e t h e centrepiece of a landlocked theme park in China, featuring a museum and a shipwreck simulation to give visitors a harrowing sense of the 1912 disaster. The Chinese version of "the unsinkable ship", with a price tag of 1 billion yuan ($165 million) and an expected opening date in 2016, will be built at least 1,500 km (930 miles) from the nearest ocean in the central province of Sichuan. Su Shaojun, chief executive of the Seven Star Energy Investment Group that funded the project, said Asia needs its own Titanic museum. "We think it's worth spreading the spirit of the Titanic. The universal love and sense of responsibility shown during the Titanic shipwreck represent the spiritual richness of human civilization," he told a media conference. The project aims to be more than a museum that replicates the

original ship and the 1997 movie that became a global hit. The simulation will allow several hundred people at a time to feel what the shipwreck was like. "When the ship hits the iceberg, it will shake, it will tumble," Su said. "We will let people experience water coming in by using sound and light effects They will think, 'The water will drown me, I must escape with my life'." The massive and luxurious Titanic sank on April 15, 1912, during its maiden voyage from the English port of Southampton to New York, taking more than 1,500 lives with it. The 1997 movie, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate

Winslet, is the second highestgrossing film on record after Avatar, bringing in nearly $2.2 billion worldwide. Bernard Hill, who played Captain Edward Smith in the movie and flew to Hong Kong to show his support for the Chinese replica, dismissed suggestions that building a theme park based on a tragedy was inappropriate. "It's been approached in a very delicate and a very sensitive way and they're very aware of the extent of the disaster in 1912," he said. "I don't think it will belittle that disaster." Hill said his flight and hotel were paid for but he did not get any extra money for taking part in the media conference. Construction of the Titanic copy is due to begin early this year. The Romandisea Seven Star International Cultural Tourism Resort will also feature a man-made beach, a "6D" movie theatre and replicas of a Venetian church and European castles.

" Yo u d o n ' t g e t t h e opportunity to be around the Test team very often, I mean there's plenty of blokes out there who never got that opportunity so I just try to enjoy it and learn as much

as I can from the bowlers playing at the moment,'' CoulterNile said. "There's a reason they're the best in the world so I just try and get as much as I can off them.'' He said Australian bowling coach Craig McDermott had helped him improve "drastically", but "the more I can learn off the actual bowlers who are there doing it at the time, the more I can be ready to step in and bowl''. "A big thing is my length, I guess. I did tend to bowl a bit short. They're pitching on that five to sixmetre mark encouraging the blokes to drive and I just didn't have the confidence to want the batsmen driving me. As soon as I've started pitching up I've been a bit more dangerous.'' With a hint of selfdeprecation, Coulter-Nile says he was worried about what would have happened had Ryan Harris's injury niggles handed him a Test debut during the Ashes, saying there would have been "a massive drop in ability''. He also says he would be "surprised" to make the upcoming tour of South Africa. "But I'm rapt to be thought of even in terms of selection, so if that does happen I'll definitely try to take that opportunity,'' he said. Right now he's concentrating on racking up his second win in Australian colours and trying to earn broader recognition as a genuine international cricketer - not just the bloke who stumbled over the rope.

Perhaps they knew him as a handy Twenty20 cricketer. Maybe as the explosive lower-order batsman who clubbed a towering six for the Perth Scorchers last summer. Maybe as the opening bowler who went for 0/80 when Indian opener Rohit Sharma went nuts and blasted 209 out of 383 at Bangalore last November. Or, more recently as the perennial 12th man during the Ashes series. The one who caught Kevin Pietersen at fine leg only to stumble over the rope and concede a six. Before a record crowd of 91,092. "It was a lack of judgement,'' Coulter-Nile lamented. "I actually took the catch, which is a start I guess, but I just got a little close to the rope and the rest is history.'' He said his Australian teammates immediately rallied around him. "I mean 12th man, I was pretty stiff to come on for a couple of overs and stuff up like that,'' he said. "Luckily it didn't have a huge bearing on the game. (Pietersen) obviously got some runs but we still won, which is the main thing.'' What Australian fans might come to learn during this one-day series is why cricket aficionados rate the 26-year-old highly. His Western Australian coach, Justin Langer, says his bowling "has got that extra little bit of X-factor and he has certainly

got that extra speed". Former Test great Mike Hussey said that he "put him in the Mitch Johnson mould with the bat'', while Australian chairman of selectors John Inverarity rated him among the best three or four fieldsmen in the country. A former junior volleyballer who goes by the nickname "River", Coulter-Nile has now played three one-dayers and three T20 games for Australia, but

Southwest Airlines suspended two pilots from flying after their jetliner with 124 passengers landed at the wrong airport near Branson, Missouri, a spokeswoman said. A Southwest captain, who has worked 15 years for the airline, and a first officer were removed from flying duties pending a federal investigation of the landing, said Michelle Agnew, a Southwest spokeswoman. The Boeing 737-700 landed at M. Graham Clark Downtown Airport instead of at Branson Airport, the main commercial air strip near Branson, which has a much longer runway, Southwest said in a statement. The airports are about 7 miles apart. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the mistaken landing but had no other comment, spokeswoman Elizabeth

Isham Cory said. The plane left Chicago Midway Airport on a flight to Dallas Love Field with a planned first stop in Branson, a musical entertainment and tourism mecca in southwest Missouri. Southwest is looking into "all the circumstances" that led the captain to land at the wrong airport, Agnew said. After landing at the wrong airport, passengers were taken by ground transportation to the correct airport and then were flown

to Dallas on another jet later, she said. Southwest apologized to passengers, is refunding the cost of their tickets and giving them travel credits, she said. The airplane took off with a new flight crew, Agnew said. It was bound for Tulsa, Oklahoma, for refuelling and would go back in service, she said. The Branson landing marked the second time in less than two months that a pilot landed a jetliner at the wrong airport in the Midwest. On November 21, a Boeing 747 cargo plane flown by Atlas Air that was supposed to land at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kansas, instead landed on the much shorter runway at Colonel James Jabara Airport, a Wichita city airport.

16 Jan - 22 Jan 2014

Aries Mar 21 - Apr 20 We are all blessed with an ability to feel a wide range of wonderful and warm feelings. One of these surrounds knowing our instincts were right about something, or knowing we have implemented a strategy that was the most practical and correct. Slowly but surely, uncertainty in some areas of your world is being replaced with certainty and awareness that you were right to pursue a particular plan of action. This week, further evidence becomes available that can only delight you. Prepare to see proof of how right you were to pursue a certain plan.

Libra Sep 24 - Oct 23 In areas of our world where we cannot decide what we want, we often believe that the only way to narrow down what we truly want is to apply constant thinking to the problem. We think. We think some more. We attempt to make a decision but invariably find that more thinking is required. Where you are struggling to determine what you believe you want, try focusing instead on what you know you don't want. This will help you to reach a crucial decision this week and do much to encourage you to finally let go of a resentment that has been nurtured for too long.

Taurus Apr 21 - May 21 We tend to be good at judging reactions of those we know well. We can usually predict with some level of accuracy how someone close will respond to a certain question or being told something. Sometimes though, those we know well can surprise us, in more than one way. Someone close to you appears to have something they want to tell you. Their hesitancy stems from uncertainty regarding how you will respond. If you are willing to listen to what they have to say now, then you're likely to discover that your best response need only be a smile and hug..

Scorpio Oct 24 - Nov 22 'It's the thought that counts'. Such words are usually said or thought by the recipient of a gift when wondering why on Earth the giver chose to give them that particular item. We don't want to appear rude or ungrateful, so we acknowledge sweetness and unselfishness behind the gesture. Despite what you might believe, the cosmos has recently provided you with a gift that you might be struggling to make sense of. This week, it should become clear how special what you've been given really is.

Gemini May 22 - Jun 22 How relevant and appropriate is a particular methodology now? The coming week brings a need to re-evaluate how and why you do something or how and why you choose to react toward a certain situation. At some point, you adopted a fixed attitude toward a situation and probably had very good reasons for doing so. Those reasons were probably appropriate back then. The sky speaks now of a need to adapt to a better, more appropriate and promising - set of circumstances. It might be time to reassess or renegotiate an arrangement. Cancer Jun 23 - Jul 23 How much of what constitutes 'comfort' in your world relies on earnings or income? Most of us equate one with the other. The coming week is likely to bring a very helpful opportunity to take stock, quite literally, of where you stand in a material sense and where you'd ideally like to be. You have a unique chance to look at what monetary shortfalls might exist and apply a unique and motivational solution to any you find. Prepare for a cosmic 'nest feathering' exercise and one that can put you in firmer financial footing than you've been used to.

Sagittarius Nov 23 - Dec 21 Prepare, this week, for the equivalent of a cosmic clearing of cobwebs. For many Sagittarians, it will be more than cobwebs that get cleared or removed but the sky speaks clearly of the need to reevaluate a relationship or commitment. Where there has been imbalance, you can expect to be reassured of balance in the not too distant future. What has existed between you and someone else needs to alter in some way. That's what the cosmos is working hard to make happen now and you're likely to find what gets decided lends itself to a much better arrangement. Capricorn Dec 22 - Jan 20 Imagine a famous sculptor standing impatiently in front of a large audience who wait with anticipation to see a masterpiece unveiled. After many months of effort, time to display their creation is imminent. The artist whips back the covering and revels in applause from an impressed audience. This week, you can bask in positive responses you have waited so long for. It's time to reveal something you've kept under wraps for some time and receive reassurance you've longed for. It's time for people to see for themselves what makes you happy and proud.

Leo Jun 24 - Aug 23 There are many things in life we simply cannot rush. These tend to be natural processes we know will not respond to impatience or pressure. Think, for example, of how human and plant gestation periods need to develop in their own ways and time and how we don't allow ourselves to get too worked up about something we must let follow its own agenda. Bear that in mind this week with a process you feel inclined to hurry. It's far too special to be bullied into moving faster than it intends to. Trust that you have all the control you need to keep it moving along nicely.

Aquarius Jan 21 - Feb 19 When's the last time someone told you what a clever so-and-so you are? Cleverness takes many forms. We can be in awe of a talent or can be as equally in awe of how someone handles a situation with imagination and ingenuity. This week, the sky speaks clearly now of how you're about to do the latter. You're about to impress yourself and a few others with what can be achieved by applying imagination and ingenuity to something that warrants it. An ongoing problem is about to be solved with a bit of grey matter.

Virgo Aug 24 - Sep 23 Secrets pose interesting dilemmas. How do we expect someone else to keep a secret when we've clearly been unable to keep it ourselves? This week, information is likely to come to light that will give you plenty of proverbial food for thought. What you choose to divulge is up to you, but with the astro climate being as changeable as it is, you might not do yourself any favors by letting something slip that someone else would have preferred you kept quiet about. Be very careful and discreet now. It won't go unnoticed or unappreciated.

Pisces Feb 20 - Mar 20 With such strong emphasis on communication and getting more than one essential point across to more than one person, the coming week is bound to see you speaking, writing, proposing and negotiating in ways you might not have done for a while. The time has come to spell out very clearly what you want, why you want or need it and how one or two people can assist you. Trust that the sky is on your side to ensure you don't need to struggle to find the very words you need. You have more of an opportunity to state your case strongly than you might be aware of.

to sit back and wait for Nadal to make errors. He won't be making many, believe me. He must bring the game to Rafa and try to dictate terms wherever possible. Tomic is an incredible counter-puncher, but I worry sometimes that he doesn't possess enough weapons. He's a big kid, something like 6'4, but he looks to be serving just to get the ball in play rather than trying to blow people away from that height. By making the serve a weapon, you take a lot of the pressure off yourself. You get some easy points, you get yourself out of trouble and you're not going to have to be running around hitting 20 shots in a rally all the time. Every player needs weapons and my concern is that Bernard doesn't have enough. He's got incredible hands and an excellent feel for the game. And he's one of those guys who moves well without every looking fast on court. He's great side-to-side but he needs to improve his up-and-down and his volleying. The top echelon of tennis is incredibly competitive and Bernard needs to put in the hard work if he wants to climb the ladder. He should relish this first round match-up in front of a huge Aussie crowd. Some of the most beautiful memories of my career were in my hometown of Melbourne. Beating Pete Sampras in the third round as a 19 year-old in 1996 was right up there, as was beating Juan Carlos Ferero in 2003 to clinch the Davis Cup for Australia. I sincerely hope Bernard can experience these kinds of moments, too. Taking Nadal out in the first round would be a great way to start.

who will be in the locker rooms at 9am for a 1pm match. That wasn't me. But when it was time to switch on, I was focused. The Davis Cup was a good example. I was different from Rusty (Lleyton Hewitt), who was different from Pat Rafter, who was different from the Woodies. But when we were all together representing Australia, we kicked butt. We have two Davis Cups to show for it. We're very proud of that. I was never intimidated by an opponent on the court and I'd like to think Bernard will be feeling the same way ahead of his first round match with Rafa. There's been quite a bit of discussion about Bernard being unlucky drawing such a great player so early in the tournament. I disagree. Playing Nadal in the first round is something Tomic should want. It's a good thing to be playing the best in the world in front of your home crowd with no expectations weighing you down and absolutely nothing to lose. I'd argue that this is a better outcome than drawing a qualifier early, or a Spaniard who has crept into the 100 by playing a dozen clay court events the previous year. You beat those kind of guys and then you hit a Nadal or a Federer in the third or fourth round. What's the difference? You may as well play them early. At this level, you should want the challenge of playing the best. Bernard has reached a point in his career where he needs to make a statement and fulfil his own prediction of cracking the world's top 10. I can't think of a better way to start that journey than by springing a huge upset in the first round at the Australian Open. Bernard must be careful not

There's one thing I would like to say to Bernard Tomic before his first round match with Rafael Nadal. ...Get pissed off. Don't kick chairs or abuse officials or break racquets or anything like that, but show some emotion out there. Get a bit angry. Don't be afraid to show the world you're fired up. Let everyone know there's a heartbeat. It's time for Bernard to wake up. There have been times over the years when he has looked almost asleep on court (and I have been almost asleep watching him). That might have been OK when he was the teen prodigy but now, at age 21 and with almost six years experience as a pro, it's time to start winning. And not just winning matches, but tournaments too. Plenty has been said about how Bernard conducts himself away from the court, and I realise me commenting on this issue is a bit like the pot calling the kettle black. I certainly enjoyed myself when I wasn't playing but, at the centre of it all, I loved tennis and worked hard at it. If buying expensive toys makes him happy, go for it. He makes his money and he's entitled to spend it how he wants. But Bernard must realise that, while the toys are nice, they're not the priority. He has obligations. Every time he goes out on the court he needs to put his heart into it and show the public a great match irrespective of whether he's playing at home early in the season or overseas late in the year. I look back sometimes and wonder whether I could have achieved better results if certain things had gone my way or I'd had a bit more luck on the injury front. Personally, I couldn't stand all the travelling and didn't like hanging around the locker rooms all day. There are some players out there

The following is a myth busting info page covering different songs or bands each week chosen by one of our many loyal readers, Please Enjoy…

Otis Ray Redding, Jr. (September 9, 1941 – December 10, 1967) was an American singer, songwriter, record producer, arranger and talent scout. He is considered one of the greatest singers in popular music and a major artist in soul and rhythm and blues. His singing style was powerfully influential among soul artists of 1960s and helped exemplify the Stax Sound. After appearing at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival Redding wrote and recorded the iconic "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay" with Steve Cropper. The song became the first posthumous numberone record on both the Billboard Hot 100 and R&B charts after his death in a plane crash. The Dock of the Bay became the first posthumous album to reach number one on the UK Albums Chart. Born and raised in Georgia, United States, Redding left school at 15 to support his family, working with Little Richard's backing band, the Upsetters, and performing at talent shows for prize money. In 1958, he joined Johnny Jenkins' band, the Pinetoppers, and toured the Southern United States as driver and musician. An unscheduled appearance on a Stax recording session led to a contract and his first single, "These Arms of Mine", in 1962. Stax released Redding's debut album, Pain in My Heart, two years later. Initially popular mainly with African Americans, Redding later reached the broader American popular music audience. He and his group first played small gigs in the South, then debuted in the western United States at LA's popular Whisky a Go Go. They later performed in Paris, London and other European cities. Redding's premature death devastated Stax. Already on the verge of bankruptcy, the label soon discovered that Atlantic Records owned the rights to his entire catalog. Redding received many posthumous accolades, including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. He received the honorific "King of Soul". In addition to "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay," "Respect" and "Try a Little Tenderness" are among his best known songs. bands.[8] When she hosted talent shows on Sundays, Redding accompanied his friends from the neighborhood, such as Little Willie Jones and bassist Eddie Ross.[9]

Around the time when his tonsils were removed, Redding doubted he would ever be able to sing, but his father encouraged him. Redding's breakthrough came in 1958 on disc jockey Hamp Swain's "The Teenage Party", a music contest at the Roxy and Douglass Theatres. As his backing band was not professional, gig attendee Johnny Jenkins offered help. Redding sang Little Richard's "Heebie Jeebies". The combination enabled him to win the $5 singing contest for 15 consecutive weeks. Jenkins later worked as lead guitarist and played with Redding during several gigs. Soon afterwards, he was invited to replace Willie Jones, frontman of Pat T. Cake and the Mighty Panthers, featuring Jenkins.[9] He was soon hired by the Upsetters as Richard abandoned rock and roll in favour of gospel music. Redding was well paid at about $25 per gig, but did not stay for long. At age 19, Redding met 15-year-old Zelma Atwood at "The Teenage Party". She gave birth to their son Dexter in the summer of 1960 and married Redding in August 1961. In mid1960, he moved to Los Angeles with his sister, Deborah, and wrote his first songs including "She's Allright", "Tuff Enuff", "Gamma Lamma", and "Gettin' Hip", which was his first composition to be released as a single. “Sitting on the dock of the bay” Lyrics Sittin' in the mornin' sun I'll be sittin' when the evenin' come Watching the ships roll in And then I watch 'em roll away again, yeah I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay Watching the tide roll away Ooo, I'm just sittin' on the dock of the bay Wastin' time I left my home in Georgia Headed for the 'Frisco bay 'Cause I've had nothing to live for And look like nothin's gonna come my way So I'm just gonna sit on the dock of the bay Watching the tide roll away Ooo, I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay Wastin' time Look like nothing's gonna change Everything still remains the same I can't do what ten people tell me to do So I guess I'll remain the same, yes Sittin' here resting my bones And this loneliness won't leave me alone It's two thousand miles I roamed Just to make this dock my home Now, I'm just gonna sit at the dock of the bay Watching the tide roll away Oooo-wee, sittin' on the dock of the bay Wastin' time (whistle)

Missing large pet python in Canberra Lost Malcolm, a 1.8-metre-long diamond python slithering the s t r e e t s o f Canberra. If you find him, don't be afraid, owner Jay Rawlings says. Diamond pythons are not venomous. "He may be looking for somewhere warm and/or dark, do not be frightened if you see him," Mr Rawlings wrote on the Canberra Lost Pet Database page on Facebook. After returning from holidays, Mr Rawlings put Malcolm in his favourite frontyard tree at their Bonner

residence for some longoverdue sunshine. But after slipping inside to put on some washing, Mr Rawlings discovered that his beloved reptile had taken the belly express to freedom. "Normally he'll stay up there for a few hours," he said.

Mr Rawlings has notified media to help find Malcolm before Canberra gets chilly again. "They're normally a tropical or coastline snake," he said. "It was a bit cold last night. I'm hoping he's found somewhere warmish." Despite Malcolm being worth between $200 and $1000, Mr Rawlings is confident the snake was not stolen. Malcolm is black with bright yellow spots and probably won't try to get away if approached "unlike a redbellied black", Mr Rawlings says.

Sperm swap at fertility clinic

The University of Utah is investigating what it calls "credible information" that a woman at a Salt Lake City area fertility clinic was artificially inseminated with sperm, not from her husband, but from a parttime lab employee. The school released a statement saying no records remained at the now closed lab, Reproductive Medical Technologies Inc, to prove the woman's claim, and that the part time employee died in 1999. A University of Utah spokeswoman declined to comment beyond the statement, which said the university did not own or operate the lab, but contracted with it for specimen preparation and semen analysis. "Through genetic testing, a woman who received artificial insemination in 1991 discovered the biological father of her child was not her husband, as she had assumed," the university statement said. "She traced the genetics of her child to a man who was a former employee of a now defunct medical lab, Reproductive Medical Technologies Inc."

30

Three of the clinic's owners were faculty or staff a t t h e University of Utah, which also owned an adjacent lab, and the employee whose sperm was involved also worked part-time at t h e l a b between 1988 and 1993, the statement said. The mother at the centre of the possible sperm swap was not identified by the university, but said in an interview that she discovered the situation through DNA tests she had conducted on her family.

"When I called my daughter and my husband's DNA up next to one another, they didn't share any DNA at all and I just thought to myself, 'Oh my God!'" the woman also said. The woman, who was not shown on TV, said that she and her husband went to the lab in the early 1990s after they had trouble conceiving and that their daughter, who is now 21, was born in 1992. The university said it had been unable to determine how the sperm could have been swapped, but said there was no evidence that any other couples were affected. It said it was offering free paternity testing for women who received artificial insemination at RMTI or at the adjacent university-owned lab between 1988 and 1993. P.V.B GROUP LTD BUILDING JL. Atomic Betty was caught by staff at the Australian Reptile Park in Gosford for her annual weigh-in. "She only put on a kilo from last year," Australian Reptile Park manager Tim Faulkner said.

At 6.5 metres long with razor sharp, one-centimetrelong teeth and a "defensively aggressive" personality, her seven weightwatchers didn't have the easiest time assessing her bulk. "If someone walks too close to her, she will lunge with all her might at them," Mr

Irish man 'stabbed to death in chess row'

Faulkner said. Apart from being a little cranky at the forced weigh-in and having a lump on her back, 15-year-old Atomic Betty is in good health. "She's a snake in the prime of her life," Mr Faulkner said. The reticulated python is native to southeast Asia, and w h i l e n o n venomous, it's one of only two species capable of swallowing a man whole. Atomic Betty probably won't grow much longer, but she's expected to live for another 10 to 15 years, during which time she will bulk out.

Cockroach in the ear agony A man in Australia endured a painful hospital visit after a large cockroach burrowed into his ear and his efforts to suck it out with a vacuum cleaner failed. Darwin-based Hendrik Helmer's ordeal began when he was woken by a sharp pain in his right ear. "I was hoping it was not a poisonous spider, I was hoping it didn't bite me," he said, adding that as the pain got worse he tried to suck the insect out with a vacuum cleaner before squirting water in his ear. "Whatever was in my ear didn't like it at all," he said. With the pain becoming excruciating, his flatmate rushed him to hospital where a doctor put oil down the ear canal. This only forced the two centimetre (0.8 inch) roach to crawl in deeper, before it eventually began to die. "Near the 10 minute mark somewhere about there, he started to stop burrowing but he was still in the throes of death twitching," said Helmer. At that point the doctor put forceps into his ear and pulled out the cockroach. "She (the doctor) said, 'You know how I said a little cockroach, that may have been an underestimate'," he said. "They said they had never pulled an insect this large out of someone's ear." Helmer went on to say he would not be taking any added precautions when sleeping, although friends of his said they were so perturbed by his experience that they had begun going to bed with headphones on.

Brad Lee Davis was charged with murder in the death of 58-year-old Denver St. Clair in a drunken family fight at a residence just east of O k l a h o m a C i t y, t h e Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Office said in an arrest affidavit. Police arrested Davis. The affidavit said he "grabbed St. Clair's underwear and gave 26

him an 'atomic wedgie.' Davis allegedly pulled the elastic waistband of St. Clair's underwear over his head and around his neck." Oklahoma Medical Examiner spokeswoman Amy Elliott said the cause of death was asphyxiation and blunt force trauma. Pottawatomie County Sheriff Deputy Travis Palmer

said Davis and St. Clair were drinking beer on the night at the older man's residence when St. Clair began speaking ill about his wife, who is Davis' mother. Investigators said St. Clair's elastic waistband was stretched over his head and that it left ligature marks around his neck. Blood splatter was also found in the kitchen, the living room and on the living room ceiling. Davis was being held in Pottawatomie County without bond. His lawyer was not immediately available for comment.
