Paying for the Right to Work Bali's Capital of Denpasar G e t s a Wishes to remember all the Windfall from brave people that gave everything $ 1 0 0 P e r on this ANZAC Day 2014. M o n t h F o r e i g n "Lest We Forget” Worker Tax The recent decentralization to regencies and municipalities to levy the US$100 per month “training” fee (IMTA) levied on foreign workers has netted the Denpasar metropolitan government a windfall of Rp. 2.5 billion (US$217,000) during the first three months of 2014. This far exceeds the modest target of Rp. 1 billion for the entire year initially set

by the Social and Manpower Department, according to Made Erwin Suryadarma Sena who heads that department of the Denpasar Government. Suryadarma said the surge in funds was due, in part, to payments made by foreign workers outstanding from 2013. continue to page 2

Providing Gifted Students a Free Education Bali Allocates US$1.74 Million for a Trade S c h o o l f o r Underprivileged Students The provincial government of Bali allocates Rp. 20 billion (US$1.74 million) each year to build Bali Mandara Trade Schools (SMKN) to provide a free education for gifted economically disadvantaged students. Quoted by the State News Agency Antara, Bali governor Made Mangku Pastika told a group of school building planners: “We do not need to make luxurious schools using public funds. The essence of the Bali Mandara Trade School (SMK) concept is to provide an opportunity for disadvantaged children who have demonstrated academic excellence to continue their education. In this way we can Continued from page 1 At the same time, the government of Denpasar - in cooperation with police, immigration and local law enforcement agencies, is stepping up enforcement on Denpasar business to ensure that all

support their aptitudes, preparing them for employment upon graduation.” The Governor said the allocation of Rp. 20 billion each year for four years is for the construction of a SMKN located next to the Bali Mandara High School in Kubutambahan, Buleleng, North Bali. Pastika said the construction of the school, to be commenced this year, must match the original idea of the project to provide gifted students of limited means with an education. “The concept of simple construction supporting complete foreigners working in the city are registered, holding working permits and paying the IMTA fee to the municipality. Suryadarma suspects many companies are underreporting the number of expatriates in their employment and, in many cases,

educational facilities will strengthen the students and prepare them for competition; not spoiling them and leaving them in a weakened state when they leave SMK Bali Mandara,” said Pastika. Pastika said the proposed trade school would uncover skills and potentials for students studying technical skills and workshop experience. “The goals is that once they complete school they will immediately gain employment and provide incomes for their families,” said Pastika. Meanwhile. I Ketut Budiarsa, a representative of the planning consultant PT Dana Sularsa Cipta confirmed the school would be built using local materials at a cost of more than Rp. 80 billion and include classrooms, a dormitory, toilets and an office. www.balidiscovery.com failing to obtain any permit at all. BALI THE RIGHT WAY Gday again punters and welcome to the latest on the streets of Bali. I hope you all had a great Easter and ate as many chocolate eggs as I did. I must say the people of Bali have really changed things in the past few years to help those of us that want to enjoy the religious part of the season up here and they go that one step further to help those of us that just want to relax and enjoy the time for a holiday. I remember a time when you just didnt get anything at all, slightly related to Easter on the island and would aliasj@kutaweekly.com certainly not see anything remotely close on the television. In reality, I remember a time when the television you did get, if at all, didn't have anything in English, needless to say there are a couple of blokes up here that have been coming here before the television was invented and remember when the island was forming out of the earth and if you really wanted to know anything you would just sit and listen to the both of them. The advice gets better as the beers go down and we must all bow when they enter a room, BBBAAAAAAAAAA NOT. Ok just quickly touching on the subject of footy ,I see a few upsets happened in the A.F.L this week with arguably the worst of all being the Hawks taking a wallop. In the Kuta Town Houses Tipping this week was a mystery round, so the true points tally wont be known until the reveal at the end of year party that has become an institution. The front runners might have had a little trip up this week however and Im looking forward to a few drinks in the sports bar during the week to listen to the excuses. Roll on the end of year party is what I say. Karn The Pies... This week sees the annual ANZAC Day come around again and this is a special time for many of us. Personally I think this is the biggest day on the calender for the year and I believe that all Australians and New Zealanders should take part in some sort of respectful action on the day, whether it be a silent prayer or a visit to a monument or at the very least the tilting of a glass or two of an amber ale, just offer some respect to the many brave lads who gave up their lives to ensure we have the quality of life that we do back home in Australia. I think nowadays Anzac Day goes beyond the anniversary of the landing on Gallipoli in 1915. It really is the day on which we remember Australians and the Kiwis who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations. The spirit of Anzac, with its human qualities of courage, mateship, and sacrifice, continues to have an incredible meaning and relevance to us all and really does help to identify us as a nation. I can tell you for one, I will be tilting my glass during the day and think a few of the younger generation should take a few leaves from the old timers books and try to start remembering words like courage and sacrifice as in these days of instant gratification these words seem to be disappearing at a rate of knots. I hope you all enjoy your ANZAC Day on the island.

Foreigners Working Illegally in Bali's Tourism Sector as Guides, Drivers, Dive Guides and Surfing Instructors The State News Agency

Antara quotes a leading tourism observer, Drs. Wayan Sukamada, as calling on the government to take the sternest action against foreigners working illegally in Bali, particularly those working without permits in the tourism sector. “There are foreigners who arrive and are recorded as tourists, but in reality are working in tourism, small industries and handicrafts, complained Sukamada. Sukamada, who once owned a travel agency in Bali, said he meets many foreign nationals in Bali who claim they are tourists but are actually

working as guides for visitors from their home nation. Many Russian tourists, he claims, are actually working in Bali as guides, drivers, diving instructors and surfing instructors providing such services to other Russian visitors. Similar situations, he adds, are found in which Australians, Japanese, Chinese and Koreans are working illegally in Bali's tourism trade. S e p a r a t e l y, K e t u t Sudarma, a tourism driver based in Kuta, said this situation has existed for a long time.

Moving along, but staying on the subject of ANZAC Day for a few seconds longer, I see that the powers that be at the Kuta Town Houses are bringing back the Friday night roast. (see the advert on page 15 ) what a great feed to have while watching the Friday night footy with a few friends and having a few very cold beers. This first Friday night roast is to coincide with the ANZAC Day celebrations and the boss is giving away 500 mls (half a litre for the uneducated people from Bunbury) of Bintang or San Miguel Draught for 23k ALL DAY. At the end of the day, this is about half the cost of anywhere in and around Kuta and is a seriously great deal. It equates to better than buy one , get one free. I guess its really all about showing a little respect to our fallen soldiers and to all the families who have endured a loss over the time. I hope all our loyal readers get down and have a beer on the house, or two or three or four.... Thanks KTH for the continued support. Ok folks thats about my lot for the week so I will let you get back to your busy schedule and trust that the most of you stay safe, happy, healthy and always try to remember "Lest We Forget" Enjoy your week, ALIASJ..........

Saving Bali's Starlings Four More B a l i Starlings Released to the Wilds at S i b a n g Breeding and Release Site Following the initial successful release of Bali S t a r l i n g s (leocopsar rothschildi) on November 12, 2012, Begawan Foundation has released four more of the highly endangered birds as part of Earth Week Celebrations 2014. The release took place on April 18, 2014 – a date selected as propitious in accordance with the Bali Hindu calendar. Attending the release were local community leaders, including I Gusti Ngurah Agung Watusila, the Raja of Sibang, accompanied by local Banjar leaders. Begawan Foundation has commenced an educational program on the environment and conservation in local schools, inviting students to the breeding center to observe the Bali Starlings and to assist in preparing their food and feeding them. Further programs are planned at local schools with students encouraged to be directly involved in future releases. Monitoring of free birds has show that this is sufficient food, water and natural nesting for them to adapt readily to the local habitat. As the birds are flying within the grounds of the Green School, observation is undertaken daily, and has shown that Bali Starlings have no fear of being near buildings and gardens, and, in fact, take advantage of the situation, finding readily available sources of food and shelter. It is clear that the Bali Starling can survive in any environment that has sufficient food and nesting opportunities as long as they remain unthreatened by humans or other local predators. Tasya Karissa, Begawan Foundation's Administrator commented: “Having strong and solid support from local communities is the biggest factor

8

in the success of previous releases. We have been working closely with the local community in Sibang for some time now.” Based on the success of the 2012 release at Sibang the decision was made to undertake the latest release. Prior to their release each bird was tagged with colored rings in order to record their movements on a daily basis. Nest boxes placed in large trees provide homes for the released Bali Starlings to lay their eggs and begin a small self-generating flock. Previously, 65 Bali Starlings bred by Begawan Foundation were released in 2006 and 2007 on Nusa Penida. In 2010, Begawan Foundation brought its remaining captive stock along with their enclosures to set up the Foundation's new breeding facility at Sibang, next to the Green School campus. Begawan Foundation's mission to increase the Bali Starling population in its habitat and to improve genetic diversity was strengthened in 2011 by the return of 20 Bali Starlings from Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic and the UK – a project coordinated by the European Zoo Association – together with three birds from the Wildlife Reserves of Singapore. These birds have had their bloodlines mixed with local Bali Starlings to breed birds for future release programs. www.balidiscovery.com

Bali Property Market in Decline?. V a l u e parameters are forcing developers not to sell homes on mortgage, leaving them in a difficult situation,”

Downturn in Bali Property Business May be Short Term and Cyclical The Bali Post reports that the property business in Indonesia as a whole, including Bali, is predicted to decline during 2014. An observer of the local property market in Bali, I Wayan Sukarja, said on April 15, 2014, the decline will act as a natural filter, determining if new developers will be able to endure and survive. Sukarja said property transactions are weakening at the current time as part of a natural cycle in the property market now on a downward swing. This is happening after a buying surge over the past few years. “The decline is as much as 49%, Implementation of Loan to

10

said Sukarja. At the present time, an application for a homeowner's loan (KPR) can only be processed by a bank if the construction of the subject home is 70% complete. Moreover, there are some banks now demanding that homes to be purchased on creditmust be 100% finished before a loan can be approved. Sukarja said this situation means that strong and wellfunded developers will survive while financially weak developers are in danger of bankruptcy. Regarding skyrocketing property values in Bali, Sukarja sees high property prices as

having a minimal effect. This is because Bali's land is seen as both unique and of limited supply. At the same time, Bali property remains cheaper than land parcels in other property markets in Asia, such as Singapore. In Sukarja's view, any downturn in the number of property transactions in Bali is most likely connected to economic policies and domestic politics. “Property prices in Bali are still affordable in the marketplace. Policies of Loan to Value ratios are presently clogging the process,” he explained. Sukarja said any weakness in the Bali property market was temporary in nature, He predicts that by the end of 2014 prices will again begin to climb and demand will increase for at least the three coming years. “I am convinced that following the Presidential election the market will grow and become active again. What's more, consumer demand in Bali is very high and the government must take a role in meeting public housing demand,” he added. www.balidiscovery.com

Pipeline thieves steal 30,000 liters of fuel UK police are hunting a gang of thieves who are thought to have tapped into an underground oil pipeline, stealing thousands of liters of fuel. More than 30,000 liters of diesel may have been taken from the pipeline running from Esso's Fawley Refinery. That would be worth about 41,000 pounds ($70,000) at pump prices. Oil theft from pipelines is relatively rare in Britain but a major problem in some parts of the world, such as Nigeria

where it is estimated to cost the government up to $1 billion per month. Police were guarding the s p o t i n W e s t W e l l o w, Hampshire, southern England, where the thieves are thought

to have tapped into the 14-inch pipeline. The fuel is being stored safely and engineers from the refinery are working to retrieve it, it said, citing police. The pipeline, known as the Midline Pipeline and owned by Esso, is one of the U K ' s m a i n underground pipelines that supply fuel including gas, diesel, gasoline and jet fuel. A similar incident took place recently in Gloucestershire. Esso, a UK unit of Exxon Mobil, did not comment on the Hampshire theft and referred enquiries to the police.

Top 10 life stressors to avoid Not enough sleep Getting more sleep is easier said than done. And even if you do set time aside for more sleep, that time isn't going to matter if your QUALITY of sleep is suffering. You can do this by establishing a constant bedtime routine and going to sleep and waking up at the same time – even on weekends. Make your bedroom a sleep haven by minimizing noise, light and electronic devices. If you are having trouble drifting off to sleep, try downloading some free meditation podcasts that will keep your mind spinning with daily drudgery. Sleep is just one small part of a healthy lifestyle – to treat it, you need to have a look at the rest of your lifestyle, and that includes your diet and physical activity.

Not enough 'me' time Are you constantly on the go and being pushed and pulled in different directions? That heightened state of tension is menacing your body so you will never have the chance to get rid of your stress. If you fail to take time out, you are actually decreasing your effectiveness. It's so important to 'schedule' in this time. It could mean waking up 15 minutes earlier before the rest of the house-hold to spend quiet time doing yoga before the madness of your day starts. Learn to say no and delegate. Prioritise. However you do it, remember that if you're not healthy and well, you're no good to anyone.

Forgetting to live in the moment If you're experiencing stress, four simple words may be able to help you out – this too will pass. Put things in perspective – ask yourself, what's the worst that can happen? Even more useful is the rocking chair test – ask yourself when you are grey and old and sitting on your verandah looking over your life, how will this moment of 'stress' relate to other moments in your life? Will you even remember it? Enjoy the moment you are in and stop worrying about an hour, a day, a week from now. Be present. If you are always worrying about what comes next, you run the risk of missing out in the here and now.

Taking on too much Do you have trouble saying no because you don't want to let people down? This will probably leave you stressing about having too much to do, and can even make you resentful. If you're overloaded, you won't be able to give what you do your

16

best. Instead, know your limitations. Be honest with people and learn to set boundaries and say no. And remember: it's not a sign of weakness to ask for a helping hand, so seek help if you need it.

Conflicts You're not always going to see to eye to eye with everyone in your life – and that means family, friends and work colleagues – so stop trying to. While you shouldn't be a pushover (this again can lead to resentment) conflicts and arguments will just contribute to your stress levels. Instead, take time out to assess the situation – don't' make decisions when you're angry. Try to avoid an argument at all costs, instead, simply try to arrive at a solution that both parties are reasonably happy with. Frank discussion is better than bitter dispute.

back and erase a certain situation, and while regret can have damaging effects on mind and body when it turns into fruitless rumination and self blame, it can also be a useful emotion. The pain of regret can result in taking corrective action or pursuing a new path. It's a function for survival – it's our brains way of telling us to take another look at our choices. Instead of living in regret, think of it as a lesson in the classroom of life. If there is nothing you can do to change the situation, then let it go – find a way to forgive yourself and move on.

Living an unhealthy lifestyle

Simply put, if you're not looking after yourself, you can't look after anyone else. While some people might adopt an unhealthy lifestyle due to lack of time —like eating fast food because they haven't time to eat properly others may have an unhealthy lifestyle because they are already stressed — like turning to drinking or smoking as coping mechanisms. Whatever the reason, an unhealthy lifestyle can reduce your ability to cope with stress, and in some circumstances it may actually increase your stress levels. Having a healthy diet, doing regular exercise, and getting enough sleep means that your body will be able to better cope with the stress that is thrown your way. Not making time for exercise Exercise in particular Letting the small stuff get to you One piece of advice that comes up can be great for stress relief — it increases in every self help book you care to pick up endorphins, will help you sleep better, is that being grateful is the quickest way to encourage you to eat better and make you snap yourself out of defeatist behavior. feel better! In fact, when you exercise, Next time you're tempted to complain or everything else just seems to follow on. winge, instead think about what you have The key is to find something you actually to be grateful for. That could mean being enjoy – then you can (shock!) actually look thankful for your family, your healthy body, forward to exercise. that you have a roof over your head and Being negative This is another consistent lesson something to eat. Another way to gain perspective is from self help books – and there's a good t o v o l u n t e e r. T h e r e a r e m a n y reason for that – being positive actually organisations that are desperate for works! Even if your world is falling down volunteers in the community, and there's around you, if you can find that silver lining no quicker way to feel grateful for your own with a can-do attitude, then you're half way life than working with people less fortunate there to finding a solution. Adopting a humorous view than yourself. While feeling unappreciated towards life's situations can take the edge triggers burnout, coaching others kindles off everyday stressors. Get a 'humour' board on Pinterest compassion, which in turn switches off the stress response, says psychologist and or collate some funny videos on Youtube that make you laugh - Not being in 'serious Prevention expert Gordon Spence, PhD. mode' all the time can help you to have Living with regret We've all had that moment when clearer thinking — and laughing has been clinically shown to lower blood pressure we've wanted a time machine to take us and reduce stress hormones.

A Federal Government decision is likely to delay the ASADA doping investigation

Kuta Weekly

18

Judge Garry Downes — seconded to ASADA in February to help bring the probe to a timely finish — is due to be handed to ASADA by April 30, in just six business days' time. That report — which will not be seen by the AFL or Essendon — is not expected to signal an end to the doping saga. A three-month delay would mean the ADRVP would not make determinations until mid-July. No Essendon or Cronulla player has yet been issued with a show-cause notice, which would be the start of the lengthy process that could lead to possible doping charges. Dank cannot challenge the allegations contained in his show-cause notice — which include that he administered banned drugs to players while working at the Bombers — until the ADRVP enters him on its Register of Findings. Dank has denied all the allegations. No longer on the ADRVP are world cycling body (UCI) vice-president and former professional cyclist Tracey Gaudry, investigations and intelligence expert Karen Harfield, Australian Federal Police veteran Andrew Hughes and Michelle Gallen, an anti-doping expert with a PhD in sports law. Still in place are chairman Andrew McLachlan of the University of Sydney pharmacy department, sports law expert Hayden Opie and sports doctor Diana Robinson. The ADRVP must comprise at least four members, but only three people are required to make decisions. It is expected that the full panel will sit on cases relating to the AFL-NRL investigation.

Benji Marshall has issued a public plea to all clubs to give him one last shot at rugby league

CRUCIAL anti-doping judgments in the Essendon investigation are likely to be held up by about three months after a blanket Federal Government decision not to renew the tenure of minister-appointed board or committee members. Four members of the Anti-Doping Rule Violation Panel (ADRVP) were told of the decision ending their time on the panel on April 2, just days before they expected to hear the case of former Essendon sports scientist Stephen Dank. Dank's case — and any others resulting from the 14-month investigation into the AFL and NRL — cannot progress until the ADRVP makes its determination. The government decision more than halved the panel of seven, which has since been bolstered by the appointment of three new members — former Australian Institute of Sport director Dr Paul Fricker, ex-NSW policeman Paul Carey and former attorney-general's department official Stuart Thorn. The Herald Sun understands the ADRVP had completed extensive background work on the AFL-NRL investigation and was given briefings as new information came to hand. A source close to Australia's anti-doping system said catching up on that work — and getting the new ADRVP members up to speed on the highly complicated laws that govern antidoping investigations — would halt the process for about three months. A secret report by retired Federal Court

24 Apr - 30 Apr 2014 (385)

When Benji Marshall left the Wests Tigers six months ago the star playmaker said he would never play for another NRL club — today the 29-yearold has issued a public plea to all clubs to give him one last shot at rugby league. After being told he had no future in Super Rugby with the Auckland Blues, Marshall yesterday instructed his long-time manager Martin Tauber to find him a new home. With Marshall and his wife Zoe having purchased a home in Auckland this month, the Warriors shape as the most logical destination. New Zealand recruitment manager Dean Bell also chased Marshall hard when the playmaker's relationship with the Tigers began to sour after being dropped to the bench. But it's believed interim coach Andrew McFadden is reluctant to turn to Marshall as a

solution to his side's woes. However, McFadden could be overruled by Warriors owner Eric Watson. Tauber last night claimed Marshall's preference was to return to Sydney, despite the fact he's making big money via endorsements across the Tasman. Tauber also stressed that no deal had been done with a rival club. “He wants to come back to Sydney,” Tauber said. “He will come back, no question, so we have got to find a home.” Tauber said Marshall sat down with Auckland coach Sir John Kirwan on Sunday morning and was told he was no longer wanted at the Blues. Tauber explained: “He spoke to Sir John Kirwan yesterday morning and (Kirwan) said: 'Look, it is just not working. There are some choices'. “You can go back and play club rugby in Auckland. It was highly unlikely he would play in their Super 15 squad again this year. He said otherwise we could probably release you to go back to the NRL.” A n d Ta u b e r w a s adamant that the former New Zealand captain had not done a deal with any NRL club. “We have got nothing,” Tauber said. “We have not spoken to anybody. This all only took place yesterday morning and we weren't anticipating or planning anything.” Reminded of Marshall's parting comment that he would never play against the West Tigers, Tauber said: “Well, he has given me the instruction to try and find him an NRL club. That comment he made was probably made at the wrong

time. It won't exist.” Asked if he had spoken to any NRL clubs, Tauber added: “None whatsoever. The piece about Salford, I have never spoken to them. There has been speculation about Cronulla, I have never spoken to Steve Noyce or Darren Mooney or any of them.” It's believed Marshall, however, has reached out to the Sharks via some of his former Tigers teammates who are now playing in the Shire, including Beau Ryan. Marshall makes no secret about the fact he wants to call Sydney home. And he wants to make his NRL comeback sooner rather than later. “We have got some personal things to deal with because he has just bought a beautiful new home (in Auckland). “He could play by the middle of May and remember the deadline is the end of June for transfer.”

Manly Sea Eagles fail to retain star forward Glenn Stewart with South Sydney Rabbitohs signing him M A N LY b a c k - r o w e r Glenn Stewart has officially been pushed out of Brookvale after signing a two-year deal with South Sydney. The Rabbitohs announced the massive signing on Tuesday morning. Rabbitohs coach Michael Maguire was delighted with the club's newest marquee star - a fair replacement for the departing Sam Burgess. “Glenn is one of the linchpins to the extended success the Sea Eagles have had over the past decade and he will bring a lot to our club,” Maguire said. “Glenn has achieved a lot throughout his time in the game and the experience that he has at the highest levels on the biggest stage, as well as his leadership qualities, will be invaluable to the young players we have coming through in

our squad. “He's a tough player in attack and defence that can ball-play as well, and we're looking forward to adding him to our squad during the next pre-season.” In a statement from the Rabbitohs, Stewart said he was excited about his new beginning. “I've really enjoyed the times I've had at Manly over the past 12 seasons but circumstances at the club have led to me moving on at the end of this year,” Stewart said. “I'm really excited about moving onto that next chapter of my

career next year and I'm looking forward to the change, and the challenges, that will come with joining the Rabbitohs. “I'm glad to have this sorted out early in the season so that I can now concentrate on finishing off the job I need to do for Manly this year.” After eight months of negotiations, Manly, in the end, never even made Stewart an offer. The question now is whether brother Brett will ask Manly for a release. Brett Stewart has constantly stated he would never play against Glenn. Souths last week secured Penrith and former NSW prop Tim Grant. The Rabbitohs have some money in their cap with the imminent departure of Sam Burgess. Rumours continue Ben Teo may return to Brisbane.

Hayden Ballantyne – suspended again – is 'undisciplined', says Fremantle coach Ross Lyon EISTY Fremantle forward Hayden Ballantyne has come under fire for his bad tribunal record – even from his own coach – after he was suspended again. Ballantyne earned the rare feat of two reports against the same player from the same game, with kneeing and striking charges laid from the Dockers' loss to Sydney. Rhyce Shaw was involved in both incidents – which were off the ball – with the feisty Docker set to miss one game with an early plea to both charges. Ballantyne will miss Friday night's game against North Melbourne at Patersons Stadium.

22

Fremantle coach Ross Lyon said Ballantyne's actions were “disappointing” and “undisciplined”. “It's cost Hayden and the team,” he told 6PR last night. Ballantyne has been suspended five times in 90 matches. It's the fourth ban in just over two seasons. Ballantyne's ban comes after

Dockers' first-round draft pick Josh Simpson failed to show at Perth Airport on Thursday after being dropped from the side. Lyon indicated Simpson had “dropped his bundle”. Club officials are set to meet with Simpson and his manager today. Meanwhile, West Coast skipper Darren Glass accepted a one-match ban for a heavy mid-air collision with Port Adelaide's Chad Winguard during the Eagles' loss to the Power on Saturday night. The Port player had to be taken to hospital for preliminary tests after the controversial incident. Many had expected Glass to be rubbed out for more games.

ADELAIDE Crows midfielder Matt Crouch has been given a late birthday present with the round five NAB AFL Rising Star nomination. One of the Crows' best players against Greater Western Sydney on Saturday, Crouch celebrated turning 19 yesterday. His 28-possession performance was impressive in the Crows' 65-point win at Adelaide Oval.

26

Crouch made his AFL debut in round three this season and has a wise head on his shoulders, according to coach Brenton Sanderson.

“Matt has a real hunger to learn more about the game and his role in the team,” Sanderson said. “He is also a fierce competitor, who makes great decisions under immense pressure.” Crouch was the Crows' first selection (at No. 23) in last year's draft. Crouch's older brother and Crow teammate Brad earned a rising star nod in round 14 last year.

Injured Cal crutchlow set to miss MotoGP's return to Argentina, aims to be ready for Jerez DUCATI rider Cal Crutchlow will miss M o t o G P ' s return to Argentina this weekend, the Brit yet to recover from i n j u r i e s received in his race-ending crash in Austin. Although Crutchlow expected to be fit for MotoGP's first race at the new Autodromo Termas de Rio Hondo circuit, the hand injury he suffered at the Circuit of The Americas proved to be more serious than first expected. “On Tuesday I had some

scans on my hand and we saw that my finger was still dislocated from the crash and also broken so Dr. Chao decided to put a pin in to stabilize it,” Crutchlow said. “Unfortunately I'm still feeling too much pain in my right hand, my knuckles are the most painful part and I'm not in condition

After a difficult introduction to D u c a t i ' s troublesome Desmosedeci, Crutchlow was expected to fire in Argentina as one of few riders to have already sampled the circuit, testing there last year for Tech3 Yamaha. Ducati test rider Michele Pirro will take over the Brit's bike for this weekend's race, but Crutchlow expects to be back in the saddle for the Spanish Grand Prix one week later. “Now I'm going back to the UK to continue treatment and try and get ready for the race at Jerez.”

Governor Maggie Hassan is expected to sign the bill into law, making adultery legal in the Granite State for the first time in hundreds of years. Back in 1791, being unfaithful in New Hampshire earned you an hour of public embarrassment on the gallows, as many as 39 lashes, a one-year prison sentence, and a big fine. That punishment has gradually been ratcheted back to an unenforced fine, but lawmakers said even that was too much. A spokesman for the state Senate said the bill to repeal the crime of adultery passed with a voice vote. More than 20 states still have laws against adultery, and some, including Michigan and Wisconsin, still consider it a felony offense. While opinions about states policing the bedroom may be mixed, a poll in January showed that 93 percent of Americans think cheating is morally wrong.

Facebook message from teen left for dead on roadside A teenage girl who was found with severe head injuries on the side of the road south of Sydney may not have been the victim of a suspected hit-run. It's been revealed that April-lee Gillen posted a chilling message to Facebook around the time she was injured. "Phones on 1 per cent walking from Warrawong to Berks and some Asian guy just stopped me telling me to come home with him cause it's safe and I need help sos," she said. Minutes later the 17-yearold was found unconscious on Northcliffe Drive in Lake Heights, south of Wollongong. Ms Gillen suffered serious head injuries and remains in a critical but stable condition in intensive care at Wollongong Hospital.

April-lee's sister took to social media in a desperate plea for information after he body was discovered. Ms Gillen's sister Kimberly posted on Facebook that she is "in ICU on life support bleeding from her brain and not breathing on her own." "She may of (sic) been abused or a hit and run between 12.30 and 1.30," Kimberly wrote. "Any information please let

me know or if she has taken anything. Please share." April-lee's cousin also wrote: "I love you Cuz April Lee

Gillen, please pull thru this. My prayers and thoughts are with you tonight." Police said the possibility of a hit-andrun was being investigated. "She's still in a pretty bad way," said Inspector Gordon Dunlop from Lake Illawarra police. "She is going to survive, but the extent of the injuries to her brain is still uncertain." Northcliffe Drive resident Lola Smith told Fairfax Media that she heard a "slight bang" around the time Ms Gillen was hit. "It's awful," she said. "We haven't had anything like that along here before. "I just hope the girl survives."

The management and staff at the Kuta Weekly would like to wish all our returned, passed and present service personnel and their families a most enjoyable ANZAC Day. "

Reservoir flushed after man urinates in it Portland, Oregon is flushing 38 million gallons (143 million liters) of drinking water down the drain because a 19year-old man urinated in an open reservoir, city water officials said. Three teens were observed at the reservoir in a Portland park, Portland Water Bureau spokesman David Shaff said, and one of them was filmed urinating through an iron fence into the water. The other two tried to climb the fence and one got into the secure area around the reservoir, but Shaff said it is not clear what he did then. The 50-million-gallon (189million-liter) reservoir was taken

off line and was tested for possible contamination and the results will be known in a few days. But in the meantime, the city has decided to "discard" 38 million gallons of water and clean the reservoir, Shaff said. "That water goes directly into people's homes," David Shaff, Portland Water Bureau administrator said. "There is no way to re-treat it." The three teens were cited for trespassing and one for public urination. Additional

BioMicrobe

charges could be filed as the investigation continues. "We are not in the arid Southwest," Shaff said, "We have hundreds of millions of gallons available, so that makes it an easy call for me" to discard the water. He estimated the cost of cleaning and replacing the water at several thousand dollars. The Federal government has mandated that Portland and all other cities cover their water reservoirs, Shaff said, and this group of Portland reservoirs will be finished by December 2015. Shaff has not seen the police report and could not comment on motive but said alcohol may have been involved.

Trio flee heated car in UK lion enclosure R a n g e r s managed to clear lions from an enclosure in Britain after a car overheated and caught fire. AP Rangers managed to clear lions from an enclosure in Britain a f t e r a c a r overheated and caught fire. A mother and two children have been forced to flee their car when it overheated and then caught fire in a lion enclosure in Britain. The trio were visiting Longleat Safari Park in Wiltshire when the vehicle overheated. Photographs posted on

Twitter show the 4WDtype car engulfed in flames in the enclosure, which is home to 12 lions. A spokesman for Longleat said the three occupants were transferred to a ranger's vehicle before the car burst into flames. No one was hurt. Rangers managed to clear the animals from the

enclosure and the park was temporarily closed while firefighters extinguished the blaze. I t i s understood the woman alerted staff by sounding the car's horn. Anna Bing, who was visiting the park, said: "We were stuck for 20 minutes in the enclosure not moving. We saw the lions being chased back to their pen by the keepers in a Land Rover quite rapidly. "Then the queue started moving and we could see smoke. Then the firefighters arrived and as we passed the fire was out."

Teenager survives flight in jet wheel well A teenage boy who ran away from home survived a fivehour flight in the freezing wheel well of a jetliner that reached 38,000 feet as it traveled from California to Hawaii, the FBI said. The 16-year-old, from Santa Clara, California, quickly lost consciousness as temperatures in the compartment sank as low as minus 80 degrees Fahrenheit (62 degrees Celsius below zero), said FBI special agent Tom Simon. About an hour after the

plane landed, the boy regained consciousness and emerged onto the tarmac at the airport in Maui, where he was spotted by ground crew. "It's just an apparent miracle ... There was no appearance of any special gear of any sort," said Simon. The stowaway told FBI officials that he had run away from

home, climbed a fence at the airport in San Jose, California, crossed the tarmac and crawled into the wheel well of Hawaiian Airlines flight 45. "His story checked out," and no federal charges were filed, said Simon, of the FBI's Honolulu office. The boy was turned over to local child protection officials, and a medical examination showed he appeared to have been unharmed by the ordeal. The flying time from San Jose to Hawaii was more than five hours. "Our primary concern now is for the well-being of the boy, who is exceptionally lucky to have survived," Hawaiian Airlines said in a statement.

Dragon have endured tragedy and notoriety. Several band members died during their association with the band: Drummer Neil Storey of a heroin overdose in 1976, Paul Hewson of a drug overdose in 1985 and Marc Hunter of smoking-related oesophageal cancer in 1998. The Stewart Royal Commission (1980–1983) which investigated the Mr. Asia drug syndicate obtained evidence that Dragon members were clients. Two members were involved in a serious car crash in 1977, where Paul Hewson's neck was in a brace as well as having a broken arm and Robert Taylor needed plastic surgery. The band also had a disastrous 1978 tour of USA which ended when Marc Hunter accused his Texan audience of being "faggots" and the band were pelted off stage. On 1 July 2008 the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) recognised Dragon's iconic status when they were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame.

Aries Mar 21 - Apr 20 In theory, there's no reason why anyone shouldn't get full marks on a mathematics test or exam. Provided formulae are understood and applied correctly, a correct answer will be received every time. This week, in a similar way, you are about to apply methodology to a situation that has confused and frustrated you. Something is about to 'click'. You're about to discover a solution to that which has puzzled you and possibly preoccupied your thinking of late. What you're about to do or put in place will be enormously helpful and hopeful. Prepare for a much needed revelation.

Libra Sep 24 - Oct 23 'That'll do'. Such words get said for many reasons, usually when we feel enough time or effort has been invested in something and no more is needed. We also say such words when we are aware of how close to being perfect something is. We recognize its imperfections yet believe it needn't be any better than it is. This week, you could be tempted to believe something needs to be better than it is if it is to benefit you. In reality, likelihood is, it is fine, just as it is. Don't succumb to a perceived need to make it more complicated. Accept it as it is and all will be fine.

Taurus Apr 21 - May 21 Politicians rarely write their own speeches. They have a team of people at hand to write them. All the politicians have to do is convey what has been written convincingly. The fact that we hear them say what they're saying implies they have utmost belief in what they're telling us. Yet, we know this isn't always the case. Words said authoritatively with a smile aren't always truthful or believable. That's something you'd be wise to consider this week. Someone might give a good impression of being knowledgeable or truthful. Don't be too quick to fall for the façade.

Scorpio Oct 24 - Nov 22 'If at first you don't succeed, try, try again' Such advice is helpful but so too is Albert Einstein's observation surrounding the definition of insanity being an expectation of a different result through doing the same thing over and over again. Does that scenario sound in any way familiar to you? What you desire is available to you. What's needed to attain it is a different approach or strategy. The coming week is likely to bring inspiration in some way to help with modifying a plan. This, as you'll soon see, is what's needed to bring a result. Don't give up. Just be flexible and

Gemini May 22 - Jun 22 Are you at risk of inconveniencing someone by changing your mind? Possibly, but might a change of mind or heart be a good thing? This week brings an opportunity for you to consider your options in a certain area and how well suited to your needs a certain arrangement really is. Are you supporting a person or idea because it suits them? What's really in it for you? Expect a revelation that will shed much needed light on how you're benefiting from whatever it is. You do have the right to change your mind and someone else might just have to accept this.

Sagittarius Nov 23 - Dec 21 'Anything you can do, I can do better'. So went the lyrics to Irving Berlin's classic song. Confidence is admirable but arrogance doesn't go down quite as well with most people. The sky's not insisting you're likely to be arrogant in any way this week but it does suggest that a tiny bit of modesty on your part might just 'suit you', as they say. You know what you're capable of and how you might be more talented or able than a certain other person. Your chance to shine is coming. Don't succumb to any need to pre-empt it. Relax, be patient and, above all, be sensitive.

Cancer Jun 23 - Jul 23 When people want to be non-committal, they give vague answers. 'Maybe' or 'perhaps' or 'possibly' or 'we'll see' are just a few of the common responses people give when they want to leave an arrangement open ended. This obviously suits them more than it does the person asking for their support or commitment. This week sees you having to make a decision either way in an area of your world. For some time, vagueness and lack of complete commitment on your or someone else's part have delayed an important process. Finally, things move up a notch.

Capricorn Dec 22 - Jan 20 Rudyard Kipling was a Capricorn who wrote a poignant poem that surrounded 'keeping your head when all around you are losing theirs'. To a Capricorn, this makes sense. People born under your sign are known to keep their cool and be sensible during times of crisis. You are, however, human. You have as much right to express dissatisfaction or concern as anyone else. This week, you're likely to see for yourself how certain people are making a tense or complicated situation more complicated. Keep your cool and calmly allow yourself to take the lead where it's needed. Aquarius Jan 21 - Feb 19 'Here's another fine mess you've gotten me into'. So said Oliver Hardy many times to Stan Laurel. Yet, Stan never spoke up for himself and made clear how instrumental Oliver was in both of them finding themselves in whatever predicament they were in. This made life easier for Oliver even if he knew he ought to accept some blame for what happened. The sky speaks of you being a scapegoat in some way now. It's easy and convenient for someone else to point a finger of blame your direction. This week presents a chance to make something clear to youknow-who.

Leo Jun 24 - Aug 23 We know patience is a virtue. We also know how difficult it can be sometimes to be patient. That's why, when we can muster enough discipline to wait, we know we're doing 'the right thing'. The process would, of course, be considerably easier and less stressful if we had some idea of how long we were supposed to wait. When a certain amount of time passes, impatience starts creeping in. It's understandable that you want to see progress in a certain area very quickly. You've invested enough time and effort. This week, you are rewarded for your patience. Virgo Aug 24 - Sep 23 People sometimes say 'he who hesitates is lost'. Another common and updated version of that saying is 'if you snooze, you lose'. We know when it feels right to apply caution yet when we instinctively feel that time is right to throw caution to wind, we still feel hesitant and unsure. This week brings an opportunity you ought to seize. However, you could find yourself creating a long list of reasons why you ought to be cautious or hesitant. Ignore what your head tells you this week. Listen closely to the encouraging message likely coming from your heart.

Eye & Lips Liner

Pisces Feb 20 - Mar 20 In one way, you have the world at your feet. It's the world you're carrying on your shoulders that needs addressing now though. It appears to suit some people for you to shoulder responsibilities on their behalf. After all, you're very capable and trustworthy. Should you be shouldering as much as you are? That's the question likely to be raised this week. As capable and trustworthy as you are, you still reserve the right to be less put upon. It could be time for someone to stand on their own two feet and take responsibility for something you've been responsible for for too long.

Keyboard player Paul Hewson wrote or co-wrote most of the group's hits: "April Sun in Cuba" peaked at #2 on the 1977 Australian singles chart; "Are You Old Enough?" reached #1 in 1978; and "Still in Love with You" reached #15 also in 1978. The Hunter brothers with Todd's partner, Johanna Pigott, wrote "Rain" a #2 hit in 1983. The name, Dragon, came from a consultation of I Ching cards by early band vocalist Graeme Collins.

Ubud, a must visit in Bali. The quiet, touristy town of Ubud is considered by many to be the epicenter for arts and culture in Bali. Ubud (pronounced “Ewbood”) has developed a reputation as a place with a positive vibe, possibly explaining why so many artists and naturalists have settled in the lush, green areas around town. Although tourism in Ubud is growing faster than the town can keep up, there is still a certain tranquility and happiness to be found in the clean air. The town has become a popular and peaceful retreat from the parties and crowded madness of Kuta just two hours away. Shopping in Ubud The influx of tourism in Ubud mixed with the proximity of so many artists has caused a great deal of unique boutiques and shops to open. Unlike the tacky, beach-tourist feeling of shopping in Kuta, Ubud provides a much more sophisticated experience. Local shops are filled with unique and beautiful crafts, art work, carvings, jewelery, and gifts to take back home. The sprawling, indoor Ubud Market caters mostly to tourists in search of cheap souvenirs. Be sure to haggle prices - negotiation is expected - or you may end up paying triple what something is worth. Walking the Rice Fields Ubud has spilled out into its tiny surrounding villages, but the growth has not ruined the natural setting of the beautiful surroundings. Green rice fields still blanket much of the area and can easily be reached by foot or on bicycle. The fields may be hiked along a twisting path for miles through tiny, thatched-roof villages. You will find the start of one of the trails just past the small market outside the "top" entrance of the Ubud Monkey Forest. Hiking these tranquil fields in the morning to the sounds village life beginning is something you will never forget. Get Healthy With scores of holistic medicine practitioners now living around Ubud, it is no surprise that so many spas and meditation centers have opened up. In town you can easily find all types of Eastern and Western massage centers, reiki healers, herbal medicine shops, and even acupuncture practitioners. The Bodyworks Healing Centre was the first of such places and has been providing natural healing to the local people long before Ubud was on the tourist map. Petulu A strange, natural phenomenon occurs each evening just north of Ubud in the village of Petulu. Thousands of white herons arrive here around 6:00 p.m. and prepare to roost for the night before flying off again in the morning.

The birds first began coming here after a communist massacre in 1965 but no one is sure why they continue to return. Local lore holds that these are the souls of those that were killed. Such a predictable gathering of these large and beautiful birds is a spectacle not to be missed. Balinese Dance Performances No visit to Ubud is complete without seeing at least one traditional dance performance. Although the performances are very tourist-oriented, this is a great opportunity to see classic Hindu legends being told through dancers in colorful, traditional costumes. Ubud Palace is a popular place providing shows nightly as well as Pura Dalem which has twice-weekly shows and fire dances performed outside. Hindu Temples Ubud and the villages in the surrounding area contain dozens of examples of beautiful Hindu Temples. Most temples are free to visit or ask for a small donation. Proper attire is required, although many temples will loan or rent a sarong for your visit. Pura Penataran Asih in nearby Pejeng is a charming temple containing the largest bronze kettle drum in the world. The Bronze Age drum is known as the "Moon of Pejeng" and dates back to 300 B.C. Pura Besakih on the slopes of Mount Agung is Bali's most sacred temple site. A complex of 23 temples can be explored on a day trip from Ubud. Elephant Cave Only two km south of Ubud lies one of the most sacred sites in Bali - Goa Gajah. Also known as the Elephant Cave, this Hindu site dates back to the 11th Century and was nominated as a tentative UNESCO World Heritage Site. The cave is believed to have been home to Hindu priests and the entrance is carved with menacing figures from Hindu legend. The interior of the cave is dark and contains a few religious relics. The site is still used for worship by locals so proper dress is required to enter. Ubud Monkey Forest The shady, green Ubud Monkey Forest is the most popular stop for tourists in the town of Ubud itself. Hundreds of playful and interactive Macaque monkeys call the sacred forest home and roam freely around the tree canopy and temple complex. Walking around the winding, moss-covered brick paths of the Monkey Forest is a great way to escape the heat of the afternoon, but mind your belongings. The steady stream of tourists has made the monkeys bold enough to even reach into pockets in search of something interesting!

A rich man living in Darwin decided that he wanted to throw a party and invited all of his buddies and neighbours. He also invited Colin, the only aborigine in the neighbourhood. He held the party around the pool in the backyard of his mansion. Everyone was having a good time drinking, dancing, eating prawns, oysters and BBQ and flirting. At the height of the party, the host said, 'I have a 15ft man-eating crocodile in my pool and I'll give a million dollars to anyone who has the balls to jump in.' The words were barely out of his mouth when there was a loud splash and everyone turned around and saw Colin in the pool fighting the croc, jabbing the croc in the eyes with his thumbs, throwing punches, doing all kinds of stuff like head butts and chokeholds, biting the croc on the tail and flipping the croc through the air like some kind of Judo Instructor.

40

The water was churning and splashing everywhere. Both Colin and the croc were screaming and raising hell.. Finally Colin strangled the croc and let it float to the top like a dead goldfish. Colin then slowly climbed out of the pool. Everybody was just staring at him in disbelief. The host says, 'Well, Colin, I reckon I owe you a million dollars.' 'Nah, you all right boss, I don't want it,' said Colin. The rich man said, 'Man, I have to give you something. You won the bet. How about half a million bucks then?' 'No thanks. I don't want it,' answered Colin. The host said, 'Come on, I insist on giving you something. That was amazing. How about a new Porsche and a Rolex and some stock options?' Again, Colin said "No." Confused, the rich man asked, 'Well Colin, then what do you want?' Colin said, 'I want the bastard that pushed me in.'

Recently I bought a new Lexus IS250 but I had to return it to the dealer the next day because I couldn't get the radio to work. The car salesman explained that the radio was voice activated and demonstrated this brilliant feature. "Nelson," the salesman called to the radio. The radio then responded "Ricky or Willie?" "Willie!" he called back and immediately the radio burst into song "On the Road Again". Then the salesman calls "Ray Charles," and in an instant "Georgia on My Mind" immediately replaces the Willie Nelson song. I drove away very happy, and for the next few days, every time I'd say, "Beethoven," I'd receive beautiful classical music for the afternoon. Then I would say "Beatles," and I would hear a multitude of those great awesome songs from the 60-80's. It was fun and even my girlfriend got into it too. "Billy Joel" and up came 'The Piano Man". "Rolling Stones" and up came "Jumpin Jack Flash" plus many other great Stones hits. But yesterday, I had the best experience of all. A couple of idiots tried to run a red light and I nearly creamed my new car. Luckily I managed to swerve just in time to avoid hitting them. I yelled out in anger, " F'n Arse Holes!" Guess what !! Up came the song " Good old Collingwood for ever ............"

Marriage Husband (a doctor) and his wife are having a fight at the breakfast table. Husband gets up in a rage and says, 'And you are no good in bed either,' and storms out of the house. After some time he realizes he was nasty and decides to make amends and rings her up. She comes to the phone after many rings, and the irritated husband says, 'What took you so long to answer to the phone?' She says, 'I was in bed.' 'In bed this early, doing what?' 'Getting a second opinion!' (YEP, HE HAD THAT COMING, TOO!)

Sometimes when I reflect back on all the wine I drink I feel shame. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the vineyards and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this wine, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, "It is better that I drink this wine and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver."

This structure is a regularly practiced procedure in Indonesia, whereby the foreigner nominates and Indonesian representative to acquire the land and to hold the 'freehold' title (Hak Milik) on behalf of the foreigner. Ownership of the land is transferred from the previous owner to the Indonesian nominee. The foreigner and the Indonesian nominee then sign an agreement which recognizes the Indonesian nominee as the legal owner of the property whilst declaring the foreigner as the rightful owner of the property. This agreement denotes that the Indonesian nominee will carry out any directives from the foreigner regarding the land. This agreement must always be concluded in the presence of a public notary.

Insect changes gender to mate with partner Girls will be boys and boys will be girls, but a littleknown Brazilian insect takes role reversal to a whole n e w l e v e l , scientists have learned. T h e c a v e dwelling Neotrogla female sports an impressive penis, which she uses to "mate" with her male partner. He, on the other hand, is blessed with what the researchers describe as a "much-reduced, vagina-like opening". As if that does not make the insect's sex life interesting enough, copulation between the

two sexes can last up to 70 hours. "Although sex-role reversal has been identified in several different animals, Neotrogla is the only example in which the intromittent organ is also reversed," said lead scientist Dr Kazunori Yoshizawa, from Hokkaido

University in Japan. A study of four species of the Neotrogla genus showed that the penis-like structure of the female, called a gynosome, is inserted into males and used to receive capsules of nutrient and sperm. Once within a male, part of the gynosome inflates and projects spines which anchor the two insects together. The scientists found it impossible to pull coupling males and females apart without causing injury. Their description of Neotrogla's strange mating habits is published in the

Every dog has his day in court, in New Jersey A computer glitch is likely to blame for a summons that called a German Shepherd to report for jury duty, court officials in New J e r s e y ' s Cumberland County said. Barrett Griner IV, of Bridgeton, said he opened a jury summons addressed to "IV Griner," the name of his 5-yearold dog. "It was just funny," he said. "I got mail for my dog." The court did not actually request that a dog serve on a 44

jury, said Mark Sprock, the local trial court administrator. He said a computer probably misread Griner's numerical suffix IV as his first name. "It probably picked up that IV, which is usually after his

databases and put it into his first name slot in the jury system," Sprock said. Typically, someone getting such an erroneous jury summons can call the court offices and the error will be fixed, he said. Griner, 40, who works as a treatment plant operator at the local water department, said he hasn't yet made that call. "I hope that the judge finds it kind of humorous," he said. "That's all I need is to have the local county and judge think I'm making a mockery of his courtroom." 45

"We knew when one went, the other was going to go," daughter Linda Cody said. "We wanted them to go together, and they did." The couple met as teenagers and married in 1944, raising eight children together, according to the obituary. Helen was a homemaker and Kenneth was a railroad worker and later a mail carrier, and both were active in the Methodist church, where they taught Sunday school. They spent their retirement traveling to all 50 states by bus and even after 70 years of marriage, they still ate breakfast every morning holding hands, Cody said. The couple never slept apart until about three years ago, when Kenneth had part of his leg amputated due to
