B a l i Provincial Government Asks Major Tobacco Conference to Take InterTabac Down Wind

In a bold step, the provincial government of Bali is aksing organizers of a major trade fair for the global tobacco industry scheduled for Bali February 27-28, 2013, to please moved to another location outside of Bali. Referring to the Intertabac Asia trade show, NusaBali quotes the deputygovernor of Bali, Ketut

Sudikerta, as telling the press on Tuesday, January 28, 2 0 1 4 : “ W e h a v e recommended to the organizers that the exhibition not be held in Bali. Hold it in East Java or Central Java because those are tobacco producing areas.”

Kuta Weekly Continued from page 1 While some media are reporting that the conference for tobacco products and smoking accessories has been booted out of Bali, these reports are denied on the Inter-tabac website who posted an announcment on January 30, 2014, stating: “Contrary to misleading information published across some media channels, the Inter-tabac Asia and ProTobEx Asia trade fairs will be taking place as planned.” The same website also encourages exhibitors and buyers to travel to Bali, provocatively proclaiming to be above the law by announcing: “Of course, smoking is still permitted at Inter-tabac ASIA.” The website also has a banner showing a burning cigarette with the message “It is permitted to smoke at Inter-tabac Asia.” That statement is not correct. The smoke free law for the province of Bali that came into effect on January 1, 2014, strictly limits smoking and the promotion of smoking in public places, threatening modest fines or 3-month jail terms for smokers and business establishments that that permit smoking in enclosed areas. While ashtrays and other smoking accessories will be on display at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center during Inter-tabac ASIA, Provincial Law No. 10 of 2011

2

6 Feb - 12 Feb 2014 (374) specifically prohibits under, penalty of law, for hotels, restaurants and other public establishments to even provide ashtrays in public spaces in which smoking is not allowed. Sudikerta told the press that while the provincial government cannot refuse the exhibition, but said such an event was difficult to tolerate in light of Bali's new nonsmoking rules. The deputy-governor said the provincial government had already written to the organizers of Inter-tabac Asia, but have yet to receive a response from the conference organizer. Meanwhile, Titi Suhariyati who heads a major anti-smoking advocacy team, has warned Bali that it will be a laughing stock if it turns a blind eye and allow delegates to promote tobacco products and smoke at an exhibition on an island that has passed a comprehensive antismoking law banning both those activities. Suhariyati told NusaBali that anti-smoking lobbies from across Indonesia, Cambodia, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Timor Leste and Vietnam have called on the government of Indonesia and the government of Bali to prohibit the Inter-tabac Asia event from taking place on the Island. Joining the chorus of those

unhappy to see the conference come to Bali is Dr. Putu Ayu Swandewi Astuti and Made Kerta Duana from Udayana University's Public Health Faculty who cite World Health Organization (WHO) data that claims 6 million people die each year due to smoking, with the highest rates of death coming from low-income countries. Dr. Astuti said: “In Indonesia 200,000 people die each year from tobacco use. Inter-tabac Asia is targeting the Indonesian public as consumers." That the conference wants Indonesian to consume more tobacco-related products is reflected on the conference's o ff i c i a l w e b s i t e t h a t t o u t s 'Indonesia is on a growth course” Based on past events. Intertabac Asia targets 700 tobacco trade visitors who will interact with 60 exhibitors from some 24 countries selling cigarillos, cigars, and cigarettes, cigarette paper, tobacco, including pipe tobacco and smoking accessories. Reports in the international media saying Bali has banned the February conference appear premature, but, noetheless, the Inter-tabac conference looks to be on a collision course with Bali's new anti smoking rules. www.balidiscovery.com

BALI THE RIGHT WAY G’day again punters and welcome for another crack at it. Its been an eventful week around the world with the Chinese New year celebrations blurring most of it for me and my Chinese friends. We have seen Philip Seymour Hoffman die in his apartment in the States, with a needle stuck in one arm, The Super Bowl has come and gone for another year with The Seattle Sea Hawks taking a win over the Denver Broncos. I'm always surprised each year at the cost aliasj@kutaweekly.com of the television advertisng that is shown during this game, as it seems for us down under that this is more interesting than the game itself. Its actually rather incredible just how much these companies spend on a 30 second slot, and with regards to the game, how can they say it's a world series match when no-one else in the world can have a crack at it ?? Moving along, I see the streets are almost dead in the zoo with just about all the tourists gone home to save a few beans ready for the next holiday. I for one, seriously enjoy kicking back and watching the little local, I enjoy not being so busy. I didn't come to Bali to be trying to deal with sliding in on a second wind and then telling people I am happy here. Many of the people I meet are just slipping through the cracks and telling everyone their run in Bali is nothing less than that. Without sounding or looking like a complete white wash, Id say you have many parts of life in Bali that are so simple that most of the expats I know couldn't even identify that they are on a good thing, nor could they learn to enjoy an extended life on the island. It takes a very special kind of person to work out how things work here in paradise and only very few actually work it out. I take my hat off to the people that have been here for more than two years without becoming an alcholic and live a normal, standard life. Its very hard when you are surrounded by booze swilling mates who enjoy Bali as much as you. Its easy to say yes to a beer every time you or you team has a win, but in this instance I, at this point, at the end of the day have a few strange ideas in mind but ultimately we all enjoy a drink amongst mates. Without being to much of a bore I would like to say that the winter olympic team Australia has put together is great, with apparently the most amount of women in the team since records began. One could only hope that the result is one which the public is keen to see, being lots of gold medals for the country. Apparently the powers that be in Russia have gone all out and whacked on a venue that is seriously second to none. Oh to have the coin the government has to throw around. Ok Folks thats about my lot for the week as I have the editor banging on the door waiting for the end result. I hope the most of you stay safe, happy, healthy and always remember, People who think they know everything are annoying to those of us who do. Enjoy Your Week, ALIASJ………….. 4

ProFauna – a non-governmental agency dedicated to the protection of wild animals – held demonstrations in front of the Bali House of Representatives (DPRD-Bali) on Thursday, January 30, 2014, protesting the illegal trade in primates taking place in Bali and other Indonesian locales. The coordinator of the demonstration, Bayu Sandi, told Metrobali.com that the demonstration was timed to coincide with National Primate Day. “This is National Primate day in Indonesia. We are calling on the public to take an active role in protecting wildlife, especially primates,” said Bayu. Bayu asked the public in Bali not to buy and sell wild primates. The

Profauna activist warned: “These animal have a function in the wild. Whenever people remove them from the jungle this results in a change in the ecosystem. This will eventually affect how mankind lives as well.” According to data provided by ProFauna, there is a high rate of trade in wild primates in Indonesia. More than 95% of the primates sold in Indonesia have been taken from the wild. ProFauna also claims that the means by which primates are captured, transported and sold are often inhumane. “One primate being sold in great numbers is the “kukang” (Nycticebus sp or slow loris). Kukangs are sold with their teeth and nails removed. During 2013 ProFauna recorded 40 cases of slow loris being sold on line,” Bayu reported. In Bali during a single month, tens of primates are illegally sold. “In one month alone twenty long-tailed gray monkeys are sold or purchased. This takes place at the Satria Market in Denpasar,” he said.

Bali the protected lutung or lurung (leaf monkeys) are still hunted. ProFauna claims the illegal trade in primates taking place at the Satria Market in Denpasar is probably only the “tip of the iceberg” in terms of an even larger scale of illegal trade taking place on the Island as a whole. Because of this, ProFauna want the government agencies involved in conservation and animal protection to take their jobs more seriously. According to ProFauna, of the nearly 200 species of primates existing in the wild, 40 or 25% of that total can be found in Indonesia. In the year 2000, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) listed the 25 species of primates most in danger of extinction. From that list four were from Indonesia: the Sumatran Orangutan (Pongo Abelii), Siau Island Tarsius (Tarsius Tumpara), Javenese Sloe Loris (Nycticebus Javanicus) and Pigtailed Langur (Simias Cocolor).

Making a Dirty Exit Public Complain that Carpeting at Bali's N e w A i r p o r t Unsanitary and a Threat to Public Health Bali's “under renovation” Ngurah Rai International Airport is again under the spotlight form the public with new complaints about filthy carpet in the domestic departure lounge. Metrobali.com quotes a passenger and tourism leader from Bali, Made Suryawan, saying, “I evaluate that (the carpet) is not in keeping with the international status claimed by management or the high cost of the renovation for the Ngurah Rai Airport.” Speaking on Wednesday,

42

January 29, 2104, Suryawan complained about filthy carpets when he entered the domestic departure hall of Bali's airport. “The chocolate-colored carpet is faded, full of dirty stains and dusty. It looks as though it is not being cleaned in the correct manner on a regular basis,” he said. Suryawan, who has worked as a general manager for a leading

and dusty carpet is not only unappealing to the eye, it also represents a health hazard to those using the airport, especially those suffering from respiratory problems. Similar complaints have come from other passengers using the new airport. “The carpet installed at the airpoprt must have its cleanliness maintained, even more so for carpeting that is near the toilets that (now) is wet and soiled. It looks like it has never been cleaned. Changi Airport in Singapore has carpets that are so clean that passengers can sleep on the carpet while waiting for flights,” he added. www.balidiscovery.com

PROPERTY OWNERSHIP IN INDONESIA As a foreigner, there is a number of ways that can lead to you owning your dream property in Bali. The best option for you will depend on your personal situation, the type of property, risk factors and the type of investment model. Even though it states in Indonesian law that foreigners are not allowed to hold a 'freehold' land title, there are ways that have been in practice for a number of years that enable foreigners to control a freehold title indirectly or to hold a leasehold title in their own name. RIGHT OF USE (HAK PAKAI) This is the right of use over state-owned (crown land) or property owned by public or private persons/entities for a specific purpose for (generally) a finite period and occasionally for an indefinite period. This land right may not be sold, exchanged or transferred unless explicitly state in an agreement. Hak pakai may be held by and Indonesian

individual or entity. Or foreigner permanently domiciled in Indonesia, or a foreign legal entity with a representative office in Indonesia such as foreign Banks, embassies, etc. NOMINEE SYSTEM FOR HAK MILIK This structure is a regularly practiced procedure in Indonesia, whereby the foreigner nominates and Indonesian representative to acquire the land and to hold the 'freehold' title (Hak Milik) on behalf of the foreigner. Ownership of the land is transferred from the previous owner to the Indonesian nominee. The foreigner and the Indonesian nominee then sign an agreement which recognizes the Indonesian nominee as the legal owner of the property whilst declaring the foreigner as the rightful owner of the property. This agreement denotes that the Indonesian nominee will carry out any directives from the foreigner regarding the land. This agreement must always be concluded in the presence of a public notary.

Groundhog Phil predicts more winter

Punxsutawney Phil, a famed U.S. groundhog with an even m o r e f a m o u s s h a d o w, emerged from his burrow on Sunday and predicted six more weeks of winter, much to the chagrin of those hoping for an early spring. The rotund rodent exited his subterranean residence at Gobblers Knob in the western Pennsylvania town of Punxsutawney around 7:30 a.m. on Groundhog Day. The fuzzy forecaster made his appearance to the shouts of "groundhog," as eager spectators waited to see whether the groundhog as the legend goes would see his shadow and predict six more weeks of snow and freezing temperatures. If not, North Americans can expect an early spring. This year, Phil predicted that winter will stretch on. The annual Groundhog Day event, made more popular by the 1993 film comedy "Groundhog Day" starring Bill Murray, draws thousands of faithful followers from as far away as Australia and Russia. Phil's forecast of six more weeks of winter was bittersweet for some in attendance. "I happen to be a positive person, so I do embrace the here and now and I will enjoy the next six weeks of winter with the best attitude and be happy to be alive and healthy with my good friends," said Lori Weber, 54, a real estate broker from Sewickley, Pennsylvania. Others came out early, braving drizzle and low-light, just to experience the event.

40

Carrie Juvan, 37, of Cleveland, Ohio came with her father."We are here having a blast because dad put it on his bucket list. I like snow but I am ready for the spring. He asked me about it months ago and I instantly said yes," she said. Phil's forecast even reached the White House, where President Barack Obama's official Twitter account reminded Americans to sign up for health care coverage under the Affordable Care Act. Phil's New York counterpart, Staten Island Chuck, also saw his shadow on Sunday, forecasting another six weeks of winter. New York City's new mayor, Bill de Blasio, was on hand for the event but wasn't able to keep a firm grip on the groundhog, who squirmed free of the mayor's gloved hands a protective measure used since Chuck bit former mayor Michael Bloomberg in 2009. Chuck fell to the ground, eliciting a few gasps from the crowd, but he was quickly recovered by his handler. Groundhogs have been

offering weather predictions in the tiny Pennsylvania town of Punxsutawney since 1887. After the movie was released, record crowds numbering as many as 30,000 have been drawn to the event, according to groundhog.org With a shadow powerful enough to lift spirits or dash them Phil has met with Pennsylvania governors and appeared on national television talk shows and New York City's Times Square JumboTron. In 1986, he even travelled to Washington to meet with President Ronald Reagan, the website said. Phil's busy schedule is packed into the months before groundhogs, also called woodchucks, go into hibernationusually after the first frost, according to NationalGeographic.com. Hibernation is less like a deep sleep and more like a coma, with the groundhog's heart rate plunging, blood scarcely flowing, body temperature dropping to a few degrees above freezing and breathing nearly stopped, said groundhog.org.

Keeping Bali's Mother Temple Sacred Bali Moving Towards the Establishment of a Puri Agung Besakih Authority The provincial government of Bali has prepared a small team to review input from a number of sources on how best to create a Pura Agung Besakih Authority to control and oversee the operation of Bali's Mother Temple. Pura Agung Besakih is located at an elevation of 1,000 meters above sea level on the slopes of Bali's sacred Mt. Agung. Believed to be 2,000 years old, the temple complex is comprised of 23 separate temples distributed on six levels, terraced on the hillside. Regarded widely as Bali's Mother Temple, Mount Agung is seen as the central axis or “navel” of the Universe. Quoted by the State News Agency Antara, deputy-governor Ketut Sudikerta said on Friday, January 31, 2014, “Coordination meetings have been held the Hinduism Society (PHDI), the High Council for Traditional Villages (Majelis Utama Desa Pakraman Provinsi Bali) and community leaders in Besakih.” Sudikerta said the meeting

provided input and secured the principal agreement for the formation of the Pura Agung Besakih Authority. The deputy-governor reports that as a follow up from the meetings a small working team, coordinated by Ketut Wija of the Provincial Government, has been created. Wija's team will process the input received to date from the community and eventually propose structure for the proposed body to oversee Pura Agung Besakih. “Essentially, the Authority will involve participation by the people of Besakih and the regency of Karangasem, while the provincial government will potentially only act in a technical capacity,” explained Sudikerta. Continuing, Sudikerta said:

“Our hope is that the Authority will help to improve the organization and management of Pura Besakih. We absolutely have no specific interest or hidden intention there.” Sudikerta said Pura Besakih is a sacred place for the Hindus of Bali and, for this reason, it must be maintained and cared for together with its surrounding environs. He described how several sacred areas in China and Thailand are supervised and protected by specific Government Authorities or Agencies. Earlier, on Friday, January 17, 2014, the PHDI held a meting to discuss proposals to establish a Pura Agung Besakih Authority. The chairman of PHDI, Dr I Gusti Ngurah Sudiana, affirmed the need for an Authority to improve management of the sacred site and ensure the welfare of the surrounding community. Sudiana looks to the Puri Agung Beakih Authority to address the myriad of problems confronted by the Temple, including access by tourist visitors, funding and theft of temple property. www.balidiscovery.com

Kuta Behavior at 30,000 Feet New Zealand Air Passenger Sentenced to Probation and Community Service for Mad Antics on Bali-bound Flight A New Zealand woman who behaved badly while flying to Bali on Air New Zealand has managed to avoid a jail sentence and instead received 300 hours of community service, 12 months of supervised release and ordered to undergo drug and alcohol counseling. Tara Anne MacKay (28) received the sentence in lieu of jail from the Dunedin District Court in New Zealand for biting a female flight attendant and kicking another male steward in the testicles on an August 17, 2013 flight. The New Zealand Flight Attendants and Related Services Association have criticized the punishment handed down by the court as too lenient, suggesting prison time was more befitting given the agressive criminality exhibited by

10

MacKay. MacKay admitted to the court that she assaulted flight attendant Susan Lawson-Hurst while intoxicated. In return for the admission of guilt the court did not pursue additional charges, including her assault on a male flight attendant. Reports are that MacKay and her traveling companion were drinking on the flight when she began screaming, causing nearby passengers complained to the flight crew. When asked to calm down, Mackay allegedly threw a drink at a

female crew member before locking herself in the airplane's bathroom. Refusing to leave the airplane's bathroom, cabin crew forced open the door at which point the woman came out swinging, biting a female stewardess and kicking a male crewmember in the crotch. At this point, MacKay was handcuffed to a seat for the duration of the flight. The final tally on MacKay rampage: Two bites and suspected hairline fractures to crewmember Susan Lawson-Hurst hands, a bruised testicles for a male crew member and an “extremely frightening experience for other passengers on the flight. In mitigation, Judge Dominic Flately said Ms. MacKay was under the influence of alcohol during her rampage of bizarre behavior. www.balidiscovery.com

Fisherman washes up after a year adrift A fisherman thought to be from El Salvador who washed ashore on the Marshall Islands said he survived more than a year adrift in the Pacific Ocean, drinking turtle blood and catching fish and birds with his bare hands. Jose Salvador Albarengo, 37, told officials he set sail on a shark fishing trip from Mexico in late December 2012 some 10,000 km (6,200 miles) away but was blown out to sea. He was found in a disoriented state on a remote coral atoll where he had been washed up over the weekend in his 7.3-meter (22-foot) fiberglass boat. A police patrol boat took him to Majuro, the capital of the islands. "It was supposed to be a one-day fishing expedition, but they were blown off course by the northern winds," Thomas Armbruster, the U.S. Ambassador to the Marshall

Islands said. A male nurse helped him down the gangplank before he was whisked away to hospital for medical checks. "He got off the boat with a very bushy beard," Jack Niedenthal, a filmmaker based on Majuro, said. "He's having trouble walking, his legs are very skinny. I'm not ready to call this a hoax; I think this guy has done some serious time at sea," Niedenthal said after speaking briefly to Albarengo through an interpreter. According to the authorities, Albarengo, who has been a fisherman for 15 years, said he set sail with another

fisherman, aged 15 to 18, but the teenager died a month into their ordeal. They also said they were still gathering information and planned to contact his family in El Salvador and the United States. In a statement, El Salvador's Foreign Ministry said it was working with Mexican authorities to return him to Mexico, and then on to El Salvador. But the ministry did not confirm Albarengo's identity or give any other details. The Marshall Islands has a population of 68,000 people spread over 24 coral atolls. In 2006, three Mexican fishermen picked up by a Taiwanese tuna trawler near the islands said they had spent nearly nine months at sea after drifting across the Pacific in a flimsy fishing boat.

Man buried astride beloved Harley

A motorcycle-loving man's family has fulfilled his dying wish to be buried astride his beloved Harley-Davidson encased in a see-through casket. But it wasn't easy. The project required an extralarge cemetery plot to accommodate a Plexiglas casket for Billy Standley and his hulking custom-painted 1967 Electra Glide cruiser. Five embalmers worked to prepare his body with a metal back brace and straps to ensure he'll never lose his seat. Standley's family said he'd been talking about it for years and

38

liked to take people to the garage to show off the unusual casket his two sons had built for him. He told people he didn't just want to ride off to heaven, he wanted the world to see him do it in the big see-through box. "He was a quirky man," daughter Dorothy Brown said. "But when it comes to us kids, he loved us, he raised us well and, of course, we wanted to help him." S t a n d l e y , o f Mechanicsburg, west of Columbus, died of lung cancer aged 82. Photos of the prepared

casket showed Standley with his eyes closed astride the big bike. He was dressed in black leathers, a white helmet and glasses, his gloved hands grasping the handlebars. Standley told his family his motorcycle helped him retain his sense of adventure after he settled down to raise four children, which was quite a compromise for the man who made his start at 13 as a ranch hand and rodeo rider. He started the project himself, buying three extra burial plots next to his wife, Lorna. His sons, Pete and Roy, fashioned the casket out of Plexiglas, reinforcing the bottom with wood and steel rods to handle the extra weight. Enlisting the help of Vernon Funeral Homes, Standley ensured his funeral would be held outside, so all his biker friends could watch his final ride. His family agreed the processional to the cemetery might be considered a little bizarre, even shocking. "He'd done right by us all these years and at least we could see he goes out the way he wanted to," Pete Standley said.

On their wedding night, she cowers naked under the sheets as her husband undresses in the darkness. He climbs into bed next to her and tries to be reassuring. "My darring," he whispers, "I know dis you firss time and you berry frighten. I pomise you, I give you anyting you want, I do anyting - jussanyting you want.Youjuss ask. Whatchu want?" he says, trying to sound experienced and worldly, which he hopes will impress her.

More thoughtful silence, this time from him. Eventually, in a puzzled tone he asks her... "You want... Garlic Chicken with corrifrowa?"

KEEPING TIME My neighbours, the two cute, young, lesbians next doorasked me what I would likefor my birthday.I was quite surprised, when they gave me a Timex! It was very nice of them, but I'm pretty sure that they misunderstood me, when I said:"I wanna watch !"

A thoughtful silence follows and he waits patiently (and eagerly) for her request. She eventually shyly whispers back, "I want to try someting I have heard about from other girls... Nummaa 69."

many centuries of i n t e n s i v e agriculture, Bali remains rich in plants and wildlife. At least 282 bird species have been recorded from the island, of which about 150 are relatively common. The best known species, the Bali Starling or Rothschild's Mynah, occurs only in one small area of West Bali. In spite of intense, albeit belated, government conservation efforts, Bali's national bird is facing imminent extinction in the wild. However, a private last-ditch innitiative by a dedicated Balinese veterinarian to establish a breeding population on the small island of Nusa Penida may yet prove successful. Bali's only endemic mammal, the Bali Tiger, became extinct in the 1930s. Almost 14% of Bali (mostly in the West of the island) is designated as a National Park, intended as a wildlife refuge and secure from

Mammals in the West Bali National Park include muntjak, banteng, chevrotain, pangolin, cuscus, slow loris, wild pig, black panther, macaque and leaf monkeys. The waters around Menjangan Island, also within the park boundary, support five species of marine turtle as well as dolphin and dugong. A private program to save the highly threatened turtle population has been developed in the village of Pemuteran on the NorthWest coast This has proved very successful, and is serving as a model for other conservation programs elsewhere in Bali.

Australia enjoy luck of the draw for FIBA World Cup, but the Kiwis were not so lucky AUSTRALIA today was drawn in a dream group for FIBA's inaugural World Cup in Spain later this year, with European powerhouse and regular international tormentor Lithuania its biggest intra pool rival.

Group D matched up against teams from Group C, which includes World Cup favourite the US. But the next round draws the first-placed finisher from the groups against the fourth-placed team from the rival pool, while seconds play thirds. Those knockout winners advance to the quarter-finals where, again, teams from Groups C and D are opposed, while teams from Group A and B also square off. The tournament is seeded to draw the US and Spain, who most recently played in the London Olympics gold medal game, together for the final. Lemanis said there were no easy games at a world championship or Olympics. "Every team that qualifies for a world championship is going

to be tough in its own way," he said. "It's an interesting mix of teams there. "We've simply got to come out and play well against the teams we are drawn against and give ourselves a chance of advancing. "I've got great confidence in our group and I'm looking forward to going down to Gran Canaria, which is Brad Newley's Spanish club." The World Cup concludes on September 14, Lemanis now in the process of arranging preliminary matches as part of the B o o m e r s ' preparation. "We've got a number of invitations sitting on the table as a result of being here for the draw, so hopefully we can confirm those over the coming days and get our pre-tournament schedule locked away," he said. "Spain are going to do a wonderful job hosting the World Cup. "Everything so far this week has been spot on. "They are a fantastic basketball national and the tournament is going to be a great experience. "Being here you can't help but get caught up in the tournament fever a little bit." The gap between the US and the rest of the world has narrowed appreciably, with 93 international players currently competing in the NBA, including Aussies Andrew Bogut, Patty Mills, Matthew Dellavedova and Aron Baynes.

Basketball's first "World Cup", which replaces the four-yearly world championship staged from 1950-2010, additionally has been kind to the Boomers who will play their intrapool matches at Gran Canaria. The Canary Islands is where South Australia's extremely popular dual-Olympian Brad Newley plays in Spain, meaning the Boomers will have great "hometown" support from local fans. "Hopefully we can get some support down there and have a great tournament," Boomers coach Andrej Lemanis, who was in Barcelona for the draw this morning, said. In Pool D, Australia has drawn 2013 Eurobasket semifinalist Lithuania, 2013 Africa bronze-medallist Angola, Korea, Slovenia and Mexico for preliminary round play from August 30. Lithuania often has proven Australia's nemesis, beating the Boomers for the bronze medal at the 1996 and 2000 Olympics. The other groups are: Group A (Granada): 1. Spain; 2. Serbia; 3. France; 4.

V8 Supercars star Russell Ingall to race on in 2014 with Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport Sports Find and circle all of the Sports that are hidden in the grid. The remaining letters spell a secret message - a Vince Lombardi quotation.

RUSSELL Ingall will race on in V8 Supercars in 2014, signing on for a full season with fledgling Holden outfit Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport. But don't call it a comeback. Backed by corporate smash repair group Repair Management Australia, GB Galvanizing and Holden, the 2005 V8 Supercars champion will race a VF Commodore built by category leaders Triple Eight Race Engineering, bearing No.23. Despite the 2013 V8 season being dubbed "The Enforcer's Last Stand", the 49year-old was careful to steer away from the word 'retirement' whenever discussing his future plans. "I wasn't comfortable last year with how things were presented by some parties about my so-called retirement," Ingall said. "I always maintained that if there was a suitable full-time opportunity for this season that I would take it.

"I haven't changed my mind and made a 'come back'. I never left the sport or intended to leave the sport. There were some good offers to join some wellcredentialed teams for the endurance races, but a fulltime opportunity was always my main focus. "At the end of the day, my love for the sport and racing cars is undiminished. I love the racing community, it's given me a lot and I want to stay involved with it. "I think the man on the street will understand my situation. Anyone that loves their job or the industry they work in doesn't want to get pushed out of it before they're ready." After racing his entire V8 career with big teams Ingall will pilot Lucas Dumbrell's sole entry on the 2014 grid, the team slimming down from two cars to one. In an era where most teams have tended towards expanding to more and more cars, Ingall is looking forward to the challenge of moving the small Nunawading-based squad up the grid. "Plenty of people will be asking why would I come to a small team that has been going through some growing pains," Ingall explained. "But I see it as a challenge to help

build the team, move it forward and keep it on the grid. "There are plenty of hero drivers out there that would never 'lower' themselves to drive for a small team but I see it as an opportunity to be involved in something from the ground floor." Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport started the 2013 season strongly with two Triple Eight-built cars for Scott Pye and Dean Fiore, but they slowly fell down the field as the season went on. Ingall's arrival, coupled with a restructure behind the scenes, leaves the eponymous team's owner excited for the year ahead. "We have a revitalised team and approach this year," Dumbrell said. "While we are moving back to a single car program we have the intent and desire to return to a two-car program in the future. "Holden has been instrumental in getting Russell on board and he brings a lot to our team with nearly 20 years of fulltime experience at the top level of V8 Supercar racing," Dumbrell said. “He's far from being a spent force in the sport. He brings an eye for detail that our team needs that comes from driving for some of the top teams in pit lane."

6 Feb - 12 Feb 2014 Libra Sep 24 - Oct 23 An issue exists surrounding control you believe you must have in a particular area of your world. A separate issue surrounds your dissatisfaction with results you're achieving through insisting on retaining control of something – or someone! This week, the sky intends to encourage you to let go very slightly of something you insist on holding tightly. Trust that you are protected and by creating space where there is restriction and confinement, you are allowing a situation to grow. Nature abhors a vacuum. Allow space to be created for something better

Taurus Apr 21 - May 21 We're encouraged to 'look before we leap'. Yet, we're also told that 'he who hesitates is lost'. We know applying caution to something we're uncertain about is a sensible option. We're acting responsibly when we weigh up consequences of decisions we make. This week, trust that you do reserve the right to enter into some kind of arrangement carefully. You might have found yourself a bit carried away with a notion or plan and hesitation you're likely feeling now is sensible. Let a bit more information come to light before committing fully.

Scorpio Oct 24 - Nov 22 Someone once said 'if you don't get lost, there's a chance you may never be found'. Recent weeks might have found you doing a considerable amount of soul searching and developments this week highlight a need to open your mind, be willing to learn or take in new surroundings, possibly even those far away or involving people from afar. A fresh start surrounding being receptive to new information or horizons will transform a confusing or uncertain situation. An alliance is waiting to be formed. All you need to do is be receptive to forming it.

Gemini May 22 - Jun 22 'Measure twice, cut once'. Interestingly, the saying applies to you indirectly. You look likely to be on the receiving end of someone else's miscalculations or oversight. Help you've provided already and believed was sorted could actually be met with a request to extend it further. It's important to understand that this could be the result of a development the recipient of your goodwill could not have seen coming. Trust that all is far from lost. An arrangement needs reassessing and correcting. Be patient and accommodating wherever possible.

Sagittarius Nov 23 - Dec 21 Pilots can shout as loudly as they like into a transmitter but if it's one degree off what it should be, Ground Control will never hear them. That analogy helps reinforce how precise we need to be sometimes when pursuing something. It's essential we work to a plan and if we stray from the objective, we risk getting a less than desired result. If you truly want a particular development to happen this week, then you're going to have to introduce and stick with a plan that will do so. This will require compromise on your part but you can reach an agreement that suits you.

Cancer Jun 23 - Jul 23 “A relationship is like a shark. It has to constantly move forward or it dies. I think what we have got on our hands is a dead shark.” So said Woody Allen. Relationships require constant effort, we know that and certain developments unfolding now could cause much aggravation on the relationship fronts but you're definitely being encouraged to assess one or two and decide what needs to be done to strengthen or rebuild them. Be bold and be brave. Your head is keen to provide a practical solution. Your heart is determined to ensure you do what's truly right.

Capricorn Dec 22 - Jan 20 It's interesting how willing many people are to stay stuck in ruts they know they're stuck in. It's easily done and we all do it. Eventually, we reach a point where we have simply had enough and when we decide enough is enough, we ring a few changes. This week, the sky speaks clearly of a need to ring one or two where aspects of your daily routine or desire to cling to someone or something outdated are concerned. If you're aware of the existence of anything resembling a rut, then get ready for change. It's both timely and very necessary.

Leo Jun 24 - Aug 23 'You can't always get what you want'. So sang Leo Mick Jagger. Interestingly though, he does go on to say 'but if you try sometime, you might find you get what you need'. His lyrics sum up beautifully what is happening to your sign now. What you want and need are two very different things and the sky does suggest you might be confusing the two. Developments this week are likely to put both a 'want' and 'need' into clear perspective. You're about to command respect in ways you've wanted to for some time. Be clear about what you're expecting from certain others.

Aquarius Jan 21 - Feb 19 Imaginations, as we know, can sometimes 'run riot'. Yet, we're told that we shouldn't allow them to do so. We are supposed to be serious and keep both feet planted squarely on the ground at all times. Does that sound dull to you? Developments this week are likely to find you wanting to escape into worlds of your creation or channel creativity in some way. If ever there was a time to let your heart rule your head, it is now. Let your heart take over and allow yourself to see what is on offer in terms of being created, not removed or destroyed.

Virgo Aug 24 - Sep 23 The most ingenious inventions started with a perceived need that became a clear idea in an inventor's mind. It's often at this stage that obstacles begin to present themselves. What looks great on paper often proves to be something more complex when tackled properly. Don't be daunted this week by how much more complex an idea you believed to be simpler appears to be. You can see clearly what you want and why you want it. By applying imagination and confidence, you can overcome this week's biggest obstacle and become one step closer to attaining it.

Pisces Feb 20 - Mar 20 Do you wish you could fast forward a chapter of your world now unfolding to see the outcome? Most of us wish we had such ability but, in the same way fast-forwarding a film often results in missing scenes crucial to a storyline, you would risk missing out on more than one valuable experience were you able to get such a glimpse. You have reasons for being concerned about revisiting some aspect of your past or a recent event. This week brings a surprise development and reassurance. You might need to invest some effort to find it but a valuable discover awaits. sari

Aries Mar 21 - Apr 20 We are all aware of how, from time to time, our moods and personalities affect others. When we feel as if we have the world at our feet, positivity gets noticed. That is equally so when we feel we are carrying the weight of the world on our shoulders. Developments this week could play an integral part in you – knowingly or unknowingly – influencing those around you. You hold more influence in some way than you realize and it's a case of you getting back what you give out, so be sure to transmit what you would like in return and all will be fine.

Almost twenty years band Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR), released by later, on December 13, 1990, it received a certification of Fantasy Records in July 1970 and released as Fantasy four times platinum with sales of over four million copies. 8402, the same month as the single release of "Lookin' out My Back Door" b/w "Long As I Can See the Light".

LYRICS

The name of the album comes from the warehouse in Berkeley where the band rehearsed early in their career. It was dubbed "The Factory" by drummer Doug "Cosmo" Clifford, due to the fact that bandleader John Fogerty made them practice there almost every day. Early pressings of the album contain a three-second dropout on the left stereo channel during "Before You Accuse Me" and an earlier mix of "Travelin' Band" with John Fogerty's first solo mixed behind the horn section. This mix was restored on the 40th anniversary reissue.[citation needed] The album is regarded as the band's best in their catalogue by critics and fans, including being ranked #265 on Rolling Stone's list "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time". Background CCR released their fourth studio album, Willy and the Poor Boys, in November 1969. Shortly after, the band began recording songs for Cosmo's Factory. In January 1970, the double A-sided single, "Travelin' Band"/"Who'll Stop the Rain", peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. In April, the band released their next double-sided single, "Run Through the Jungle" "Up Around the Bend", which reached #4 and #2 on the Hot 100, respectively, and started their first tour of Europe. Cosmo's Factory was released in July 1970, and their ninth single "Lookin' Out My Back Door"/"Long As I Can See the Light", both of which reached #2 on the Hot 100. Cosmo's Factory was an international hit, topping the album charts in six countries. The album was certified Gold (500,000 units sold) by the Recording Industry Association of

Cancer cure in smartphone game G a m i n g enthusiasts across the world can join the search for cancer cures with a citizen science project using a smartphone game t o h e l p researchers analyse vast volumes of genetic data from tumour samples. Called "Play to Cur,: Genes in Space", the spaceship game is designed for smartphones and was launched by the charity Cancer Research UK (CRUK), which hopes it will speed up the decoding of data to reveal patterns of the genetic faults that cause cancers to grow and spread. Travelling in a world set 800 years in the future, players guide a fast-paced spaceship safely through a hazard-strewn intergalactic assault course, gathering along the way a fictional precious cargo called "Element Alpha". Each time a player steers the ship to follow the Element Alpha path, they also reveal patterns and, unwittingly, provide analysis of variations in the genetic data, explained Hannah Keartland, who led the project for CRUK and unveiled the game at a London launch on Tuesday. It is this information that will be fed back to CRUK scientists. And to ensure accuracy, each section of gene data will be tracked by several different players. "We want anyone,

18

anywhere, at any age, to download this game and play it," said Keartland. If everyone around the world were to play the game for even a couple of minutes each, she said, "we could have an absolutely mind-blowing impact in terms of accelerating research". An estimated 14 million people worldwide are diagnosed with cancer each year and that toll is expected to rise to 22 million a year within the next 20 years, according to a World Health Organization report issued on Monday. Scientists will use the information gathered from "Genes in Space" players to work out which genes are faulty in cancer patients. This in turn should help them develop new drugs that target specific genetic faults, and new ways to figure out how to stop cancer developing in the first place. "It's not just a game, it's way of saving lives," said Tony Selman, a 72-year-old prostate cancer survivor from Middlesex, central England, who helped launch the new game.

Play to Cure is CRUK's second citizen project following a similar but smaller one last year called CellSlider - which the charity said cut the time needed for researchers to analyze a set of breast cancer samples from 18 months to three months. Professor Carlos Caldas, an oncologist at CRUK's Cambridge Institute, explained that it works by using data generated by screening tools called gene microarrays - which scientists use to look for areas of the human genome that show up faults in cancer patients - a sign they may be causing the disease. Gene microarrays are useful for analyzing large genetic faults known as copy number alterations - when a whole section of the chromosome is gained or lost. Since these large sections of chromosomes may involve many different genes, scientists need a way to work out which are the ones driving cancer - known as oncogenes - and which ones are just "passenger" genes along for the ride, he said. Scientists generally use computer software to trawl through the huge amounts of data generated by microarrays to spot the precise locations of copy number changes, but in many cases these are not accurate enough. "Computers are very good, but they are not perfect," Caldas told reporters. "The human eye is still the best technology we have for picking up these patterns, and...Genes in Space is harnessing that power."

Boy Scout leaders charged Two former Boy Scouts of America leaders who touched off worldwide outrage by toppling a 170-million-year-old rock formation at a Utah state park last year were charged with felony criminal mischief. A video of the incident p o s te d o n Yo u Tu b e i n October showed Glenn Taylor dislodging a massive boulder from its spindly rock pedestal in Goblin Valley State Park, as fellow scout leader David Hall filmed him while laughing and singing. Taylor, 45, is charged with felony criminal mischief and Hall, 42, faces one count of felony aiding and assisting in criminal mischief, Director of Utah State Parks Fred Hayes said in a statement. If convicted, each man could face up to five years in prison, a

fine of $5,000 and restitution for damages to Utah's protected natural resources. The men were stripped of their leadership positions with the Boy Scouts of America after the video surfaced, igniting a furor and flooding the state parks office with angry calls and emails. "From literally from around the world. Folks who have either been there (to Goblin Valley State Park) or even just seen pictures of it," Hayes said at the time. National Boy Scouts officials

said they condemned the vandalism because it violated the organization's "leave no trace" ethic that seeks to preserve natural areas. Taylor and Hall did not immediately respond to requests for comment. They told park officials last year that the boulder was a safety hazard they remedied by knocking down. Utah State Parks spokesman Eugene Swalberg has said the agency did not consider the rock a danger. It was one of thousands of sedimentary rock formations, dating to the late Jurassic era and known as goblins, that were carved over millennia by water erosion and windblown dust in the popular park in the high desert of south-eastern Utah.

Gynaecologists to treat more men

A U.S. professional group that certifies obstetricians and gynaecologists has loosened a decadesold restriction on its boardcertified members treating male patients, after mounting pressure from doctors and researchers. The American Board of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (ABOG) had previously said members could not treat male patients except in specific circumstances, such as circumcising babies, treating transgendered patients, and helping couples overcome infertility. However, opposition had mounted from gynaecologists and others who said the policy interfered with medical research and prevented them treating male patients with chronic pelvic pain. Some obstetricians and gynaecologists had also been treating men for cancer, problems such as low testosterone, and cosmetic procedures including liposuction. "This change recognizes that in a few rare instances board certified diplomats were being called upon to treat men for certain conditions and to participate in research," Dr. Larry Gilstrap, ABOG's executive director, said in a statement. "This issue became a

30

distraction from our mission to ensure that women receive high quality and safe health care." The Dallas-based board eliminated requirements that said certified members treat only women and must devote at least 75 percent of their practice to obstetrics and gynecology, saying instead a majority would suffice. The policy change matters because board certification, while not legally mandated, is viewed as a paragon of safety by many hospitals, patients, and insurers. It was intended to protect patients when some gynecologists who were board certified by the group were practicing in areas outside the board's expertise, such as

p l a s t i c s u r g e r y, A B O G spokesman David Margulies said. First adopted in the 1930s, the policy had been ignored or opposed by doctors in some corners over the years, and the board had built a list of complicated exceptions over the past months, Margulies said. "The whole thing became a distraction from the idea that we are here to certify people, to make sure that they have the training they need," Margulies said. ABOG says on its website it is an independent, non-profit organization that certifies obstetricians and gynaecologists in the United States. It examines and certifies more than 1,700 obstetricians and gynaecologists and subspecialists in maternalfetal medicine, reproductive endocrinology and infertility, gynaecologic oncology and female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery each year. Human guinea pig swallows tapeworms A medical journalist says he put on 9.5kg after ingesting tapeworms, dispelling a belief the parasites cause weight loss. " T h e parasites were for many years thought to be a weight-loss aid to past generations, with Victorian w o m e n swallowing their eggs to get thinner," T V presenter M i c h a e l Mosley, who h a d t h e tapeworms in his gut for six weeks, attributes the weight gain to his need to increase his food intake. he said. Producer Nathan Williams said BBC policies allowed Mosley to consume the tapeworm because it could not be passed between humans. The parasites in Mosley's body were killed with medication, but there had b e e n n o evidence the worms had been expelled from his body. "Nothing came out," he said. "There are two possibilities: the most likely possibility is that the pills killed the worms and my body digested

the tapeworms, which is an ironic end parasite gets eaten by its host, which is most likely. "The second possibility is they are still there, but since it is about 13 weeks since I swallowed the cysts, I think I would have noticed by now."

Gordon Ramsay has been hit with an odd lawsuit from a man who claims he can't taste food after cutting his tongue at the celebrity chef's New York City restaurant. German chef Markus Barthel visited the Brit's eatery at The London hotel last March, but claims he got much more than he bargained for when his meal arrived. In the lawsuit filed on Tuesday, Barthel alleges he ate a hard piece of plastic or ceramic that was hidden in his hamburger, and was left with "serious, severe

and permanent injuries in his mouth, including... deep cuts in his tongue". The documents also state that Barthel had to undergo surgery in order to repair the damage, but is "unable to perform the duties of a chef any longer." His lawyer, Florian Bruno,

The girl who cried stones Superstitious villagers fear a little girl is possessed by the devil's magic or gripped by an unsolvable epidemic A little girl has baffled doctors by crying stones instead of tears. The Yemeni girl, 12, produces little hard stones under her eyelids. Doctors said they still could not give an explanation for such a phenomenon since the girl, Saadiya Saleh, is not suffering from any known

disease. Unfortunately this triggered a panic in rural areas where they assumed the girl must be possessed by magic. A You Tube film aired by Yemen's Azal satellite TV channel showed doctors

The lesson from a stabbing death in Russia, Alcohol and literature can be a lethal mix. A former schoolteacher killed his friend after a drunken argument over which is superior, poetry or prose, investigators in the Sverdlovsk region said on Wednesday. "The literary dispute soon grew into a banal conflict, on the basis of which the 53-year-old admirer of poetry killed his opponent with the help of a knife," the regional branch of the federal Investigative Committee said in a statement. The suspect fled his home in the town of Irbit, where

the 67-year-old victim was killed after the argument on January 20, and hid at another friend's house in a nearby village before he was found and detained, it said. The killing came four

months after an argument over the theories of 18th century German philosopher Immanuel Kant ended in a man being shot in a grocery store in southern Russia.

Staying with a concept that has carried them to championships in 2012 and 2013, coach Dave Rennie has decided the captaincy duties are best shared. Flanker Messam and lock Craig Clarke had jointly held the job but Clarke has gone to Irish club Connacht, leaving a gap to fill. Rennie says influential fiveeighth Cruden, 25, was ready for more responsibility. "Aaron has been a

knowledge, attitude and ability to direct a game is impressive. He is greatly respected, a natural leader and will thrive with this added responsibility." The former New Zealand under-20 captain has been the Chiefs player of the year for the past two seasons. Messam is the mostcapped Chiefs player with 113 matches and has barely missed a minute of play in their two title runs. "He is an uncompromising player and a leader who epitomises Chiefs mana," Rennie said. The Chiefs play their first pre-season match against the Queensland Reds in Toowoomba on Saturday.
