The logistics of the future

Over the last 10 years the logistics sector has transformed from a digital novice into the branch that drives development. Ten years ago the mobile phone was just for calling and sending messages and everything else was done on paper or with the help of a system that printed out what people wanted on paper.

I truly believe that the revolution that is now taking place within the logistics sector is going to fundamentally change our way of working. The pace of this change depends on ourselves but also on legislation. In order for this to happen we need structural changes to enable larger scale standardisation.

We can see that artificial intelligence is an unbelievable opportunity that requires large initial investments, but can provide benefits worth exploring. We are going to make use of AI in everything from transporting things to transport management and even in finance. Our way of working will be characterized by this type of development within the next few years and we will involve every relevant interest group.

Trends within logistics come in waves just as in other industries. The current trend is that consultants and systems providers sell their services with the motivation that they will reduce transport costs, but there is a big risk and, in most cases, extra work involved will make it difficult to realise the promised savings. In the long run the focus should shift from saving money on individual transports to analysing the big picture and responsible ways of doing business.

The future is in our hands. Join us in building a future for the next generation.
