Designated Gift Funds Edward E. Ford Foundation In 2002 The Edward E. Ford Foundation approved a $38,000 matching gift to Springside to support a new program initiative called Physics for Every Girl. The grant included support for guest speakers, stipends for summer internships, expansion of the science outreach programs, financial support for faculty summer, and technology equipment for our new physics laboratory. In 2008 Springside was fortunate to have been awarded a $50,000 matching grant awarded for Probing the Future of Science for Girls. This generous grant has furthered efforts to produce more technologically literate and creative students ready to step into a world where imagination, intelligence,

and skill merge to solve problems and produce real results. It has allowed Spingside to seek new funding and new support from our community to match the Edward E. Ford grant. By integrating genuine problem solving challenges for students in grades 9-12 using the latest computer probe technologies, we forged ahead in meaningful teaching. The introduction of probes builds on the fundamental principles garnered from the paradigm changes realized from Physics for Every Girl that E. E. Ford Foundation supported in 2002. The students are able to draw on interdisciplinary strengths of mathematics, science, and technology by defining challenges and designing and implementing creative solutions.

Deborah Beeler ’64 Fund Given in memory of Deborah Wharton Beeler, Class of 1964, this fund is used to support an annual lecture. Outside speakers are invited to address the students each year on a topic related to service to humanity.

Beeler Deborah Dempsey Writer’s Residency Inaugurated in honor of Deborah Dempsey, HA, English teacher at Springside for 29 years, who retired in June 2000, this residency celebrates Mrs. Dempsey’s teaching legacy and ensures that her passion for personal expression is a continuing force at Springside. Three-time Caldecott Medal winner David Wiesner enchanted Lower Author and illustrator David Wiesner visited Springside as part of the Deborah Dempsey Writer’s Residency.
